Hi,
This may be a generic piece of software but I'll post it here becuase the TyTn is the device I want to use it on...
Is there a piece of software available that will switch on and off bluetooth at a specified time?
If not, would somebody with some programming knowledge be able to write this?
The idea behind it is that - say you travel to and from work at a specific time - say 8am -> 8:30am and 5:30 -> 6pm - you would'nt have to keep switching bluetooth on and off in order to connect your mobile to a headset...
Cheers
Lee
Auto switching..
Have you tried PocketZenPhone?
it may be what you are looking for..

Phonealarm has an option to schedule profile changes at specific times and within each profile, one of the settings available is to switch bluetooth on/off. You can also specify to run a program of your choice upon profile change as well.
TyTn is PocketPC bassed not SmartPhone bassed so it dosn't have profiles as such...so don't think that'll do it...
Phonealarm is a program which gives your profile functionality on a PPC device.
My phone is a Vario II (aka HTC Tytn).

I'd better have a look at it then!!!
Yeh, it is worth a look, it is a great program
I really missed having profiles when I switched from standard phones to PPC devices which is why I bought it.
If you click on the link on my first post it will take you to the developers home page.
I'm using SKScheMa from the SKTools folk.
http://www.s-k-tools.com/
It works fine to schedule all sorts of stuff on/off, including soft reseting in the middle of the night, running clean up utilities at 6am etc..
It's also got some neat (if quite complicated) scripting capability but there are one or two pre-canned scripts that you can assign to buttons like 'Toggle BT' ...
Works for me...
Cheers

is it possible to use this to get ActiveSync via bluetooth to start automatically when I come in range of the bluetooth on the PC? I do all my synching with BT, but it is a pain in the butt to have to manually start the process every time
yeah - I know what you mean... so as far as I know, it's possible to create a script to switch BT on, then start an App (such as Activesync)... you can even script it to emulate stylus 'clicks' etc.. now the only trick may be having to start the script (for activesync) depending on a connection being available ... but there is some capability called WATCH which is supposed to watch for certain events etc...
So, have I done it myself ? no...
Is it possible ? it certainly looks like it..
Cheers

Hi lsainsbury,
I would also give PocketZenPhone (mentioned above) a try. From experience I have personally found it better than Phonealarm for switching profiles etc...
From what I remember PhoneAlarm has other features which I was not interested in. PZP has many features for customizing notifications etc...
I am sure others will disagree but this is my opinion.
Guess you have nothing to loose by trying it, right?
Tried both, pocketzenphone is the best IMO....its only missing ONE thing which is automatic profile changing via cell id.
(as you can see by my new topic) Phonealarm seems to have problems with the TyTN from my experience anyway!

It is 12:00 central time (17:00 GMT I think) and I will close voting at 5:00pm Central Time (22:00 GMT) today. So that leaves you just 5 Hours to make your vote. I will try and post the winner up here later tonight, or you can check yourself at www.gudensoft.com.
Thanks!!

First, thanks for all the great ideas. I would love to develop all of these if I could, but we have to decide on just one of the programs! So, Since I couldn't add a poll to this thread, I added it to HERE.
I bet I know which will win, but who knows? The poll will end Thursday or Friday (depending on if it is a close race or not).
Thanks

Hey guys,
I want to know what cool program, functionality, or software you would like to see created. I am a .net programmer (among others) and would like some ideas of projects you would like to see. I would like to stay away from a graphic intense program and involved games, so think functionality, usefulness, fun, etc. If I get some good ideas, I will then add a poll, vote on the best one, then build it. I will release it under my donationware license which means it will be free. Right now I am finishing up my Golf Gps program (and will continue to support), but will start this project once we get it deceided. So Shoot me your ideas!
Gudy
cool a programmer who need ideas
I have proposed something here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434925
though it would maybe not appear as a grateful program for a developper ( a toolkit for other programs), it could be a good way to have a large diffusion through many config panels in different programs
it was just an idea

Hi,
Maybe simple for .NET, but for me impossible to do (without performance/battery penaulty) with basic4ppc or mortscript. And thats all I can handle.
What I would like to have is a program that enables me to execute programs when specific events occur. I'd like to know when AC power gets connected/disconnected, when there is a change in screen orientation, and when a headset gets connected/disconnected and so on. Maybe even when an internet connection through WIFI is available/unavailable.
Also I'd like to know is a specific BT device is connectable/conneted. I'd like to know if a specific WIFI network is connectable/connected. I'd like to know if I'm at a specific location. All event driven, without a performance consuming programing loop or battery drain.
Yeah, all or even some of those options would make my digital mobile life so much easier
Good luck huntig for input, if you ever get bored contact me and make me happy
Cheers,

Doable, handy, not a massive undertaking, I like it! Not sure I would go the .net route on something like this, as really a GUI is not required (except for settings maybe) and the overhead is large with .net. Certainly will add it to the list. Keep them coming!!

This would be pretty difficult unless all of developers used the same programming langauge/technique. The only real feasable way I see this working would be developers using a common set of graphics. That would be more of a graphic undertaking instead of programming. I do like the idea, but pretty hard to impliment.
Thanks

I would love to see something like Launchy for launching apps and files etc. as well as quick search of various types online. I'm guessing the on the fly search would require too much processing power, but if it's doable it would be awesome.
http://www.launchy.net/
I'm interested in new ideas too. I also use B4PPC.
Here's a few ideas:
-A tamagotchi, really. I was about to try this out tonight but Paint hates me.
-An app launcher like PetitLaunch on PalmOS. It's something that can pop from any app (hardware button) and when you type in extra letters it filters which apps are shown. I got this started and I can give you the files if you want.
-Pursue the development for Tippy. The source is on Nicbou.com/downloads if you want it.
-A time clock. A friend of mine notes down how long he works to make sure he doesn't get screwed and it takes him several minutes every week. He doesn't have a Pocket PC but maybe someone would be interested in something that tracks the hours you work and calculate the salary. I almost did this too.
And don't forget to share the source! If you need any help with B4PPC I'm here

Sounds simular to the app launcher listed in the next post, seems like there is a theme going on here, you all need some sort of good app launcher.

I'd like the Launchy features for search-on-the-fly off on board apps and file launching, but ever more for different site searches (google, maps, wikipedia, live, youtube, Amazon, etc).

I had to look up tamagotchi, either I am too old, or just out of the loop to know that 10 million of these things were sold! Wow! That could be fun, but would take a pretty fancy AI type system to really be fun.
A form of Tippy is already out there, 1-calc has some of the features built in already.
A time clock could be cool, maybe a stop watch type thing perhaps?
Never used B4PPC, I mainly use C# and Visual Studio. It looks like the old Visual Basic for desktops. And last but not least, depending on the project, I more than likely will release the source.
Thanks!!! Keep'em comin!

File Explorer Needs Help
Has anyone wanted to see a preview image in explorer's folder??
I'm not talking about fexplorerext2. although it is a fantastic enhancement; it takes a long time to load the preview immages.
I have a better idea (well, actualy MS thought of it first)
THUMBS.DB
for every folder that has an image file, this dll is created to replace cache of images. this way ou do not have to load it everytime and scale them down for thumbnail view. it is already there specificaly for each folder.
This alows the explorer to show a preview of the first image in the folder (or last created/accessed)
This is whatt I think WinMo is lacking - windows. lol.
I do not care much for the tabbed browsing. it hurts my head. too much scroling and not enough info. Icons work better I think, and waste less space on an already small screen.
well, that's been on my wishlist for a very long time. a dll that ataches to the already existing explorer making it work better.
Thanks for workin g on something new
program that makes led lights flash when phone rings would be nice
Interesting...I will have to think about how to tackle that. It would basically take a new file explorer (like total commander). This might be a bit larger than I want to tackle, but will research it a bit before ruling it out.

This would be very difficult as not every device handles the leds the same. Also, not every device has the same leds (color, # of, etc). I think No2Chem has a int. driver, but think it is only for the titan. Would be cool though...

a system-wide launcher dock program like that on the velocity 103 PPC..

a new top bar replacemeent/notification system much like the "android Notification Drawer" it can replace the bubble (multiple) notifications icon when you got multiple and simultaneous notifications.. and also make it finger friendly (unlike M2D, no need to go back to homescreen to check email/sms previes and also calendar events, calls, etc.. also unlike big taskbar - from the touch phones, this'll have previews)

Fexplorer2 is basically a dll that works with the original file explorer context menu. there is a small exe that overwrites the original explorer to make it think that the explorer"s context menu has already been opened.
in a way it maybe possible to write a new dll and two exe
EXE 1 to replace the file explorer
EXE 2 to make thumbs db
DLL (conte4xt menu that alows to view as thumbnails/list etc ; as well as launching the second exe to make a thumbsdb)
maybe you can get some help from Hou Ming, the guy that made that program before.
it would be cool if you could get some of the old emus like pocket gba and pocket snes with window 6.1 I know i would be happy.

I have been looking for a program that would stop the music (S2P, Audio Manager, or WMP etc...) if during playback of the music the headset is removed. Or for instance, when the device is on vibrate and you connect headset, it automatically changes profile to normal or something.
Another one is when I dock my device (or connect AC basically), I'd like clock program (or home screen, or photo slideshow, etc...) to come up automatically.
A feature that I miss from my older phones is the ability to set them to beep every minute during a phone call.
Now these are very general and not specific features. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!
Thank you,

The launcher on the 103 looks a lot like manilla, I know it is diff, but to me it seems mainly by presentation, not functionality. I do however like the notification top bar like that on android. Not sure how difficult taking over the top bar would be. I will do some digging.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاتهis it only for changing the profile or it can do more
thanks !! for your time to make it happen any how.
awesome, I was designing this kind of application myself..
But this looks nice, I will look at the source and see if my style matches yours. If so I think I'd like to help develop.
This could duplicate (and more) the functionality of Wifilocations (also on xda-developers), but more than just turning on/off the wifi and bluetooth!

i don't think so, anyway i'm planing to implement alot of new features.
let me know if you have any specific request.
I've been wondering when WM would get to have something like this. About 3yrs ago, I played with a similar program on my Nokia S60 phone. It worked pretty good. When I went to the conference room I could have the phone memorize that location and it would put my phone to silent. And so on. Thanks for your interest and work on this. I look forward to testing it out!

i will be including some more stuff in it soon
I use Wifilocations, but I find it somewhat unreliable with the cell-readout (but perhaps it's me). Anyway, I will give your application a try. I will mainly use it for turning on/off Wifi anyway.
I have a few questions though:
What is the polling frequency?
Is there a special -hide autostart option?
What is going to be different from Wifilocations?
Thx for your work!
Best, danckel

in the future, this application will have alot of features,
it will have a default profile (Unknown Location Profile) which will allow you to set your default setting when you are not in a known area.
also it will have options to prevent from stopping bluetooth and/or wifi if a call is on going (to prevent a BT Headset from disconnection or to prevent Wifi incase of VOIP call).
some more features will be there and whatever you have in mind can be implemented.
the polling time will soon be an option to set i think now it is set to 30 seconds (i'm not sure about the timer settings), the software automatically polls the cell id when a major event happens (add new location or edit one for example).
but i'm concerned about one thing, is it consuming battery?!
i didn't notice anychange in battery life or performance of the device. can you please confirm this?
thanks all for your support.
Didn't test it yet, but I'll suggest you add:
launch an app (sequence)
send predefined sms
connect to A2DP receiver
go to flight mode (cinema, hospital, plane)
turn off GSM part (bad or no coverage)
antitheft actions / lock the phone (when it leaves a specified location)
-> maybe this can be done with just running another app
How accurate is this ?
Cheers

also ,, this software not depending on net framework ,, and it has an independent wm service working in backgroud to monitor the cells and change the profile this thing make it too light and stable,,
it also has a today pluggin ,, so today pluggin it important ,,
so ,, give your self a time to try it to get more ideas for your software ,,

Sure, Sure, these are all nice features
i started immediately on some of what you said
regarding the accuracy, this cannot be measured in any unit!
the GSM mobile cell looks like a hexagon, when you are outside the city this hexagon is set to be larger (covers more land) while it is smaller inside the city, mostly, inside the city (or locations with high mobile traffic) will have more accuracy but not that much precised! for example it will not distinguish a room in your home, but it will be able to recognize your home (but maybe not your neighbour if both are covered with the same cell tower).

Polling time of 30sec is fine, but I could not verify it. A very helpful trigger event is "turning on the device again". Could you include an active polling on this event?
It would also be nice if the application showed the actual cell id rather than reporting "Unknown" on the main screen. This enables me to check whether the polling actually works.
Wifilocations also has a trigger event when you leave rather than enter a cell. This could also be very handy.
Battery drain is of course a major concern, because the application has to run continuously. I haven't had time to check the battery drain yet.
Finally, is there a program switch that enables starting the program in the background?
PS: Thanks also for sharing the source code.
send predefined sms
-this option would be very useful for people who always travel because it can send an sms to a pre defined number especially if it will also send the cellid. it can be used as a tracking device.
this is what i did:
- launched LPM
- Options > Add New Location
- added location name: Office> ticked Ringing Volume > adjusted to lowest point > Start Recording > Saved
- quit the app
- relaunched the app, now the Current Location shows "Office", Ringer: 0%
- when someone calls, the ringer volume is still max
I was cruising the net and found an article on MSDN about someone developing an app (back in 2007) that would automatically adjust the ringer volume based on the ambient noise. If you are at a bar it rings loud, if you are at home sitting on the couch reading it rings quiet. Problem is, she only showed the code and didnt have an actual app, and i dont know how to program. So here is my question, has anyone actually developed an app that would do this for you? Anyone up for a challenge just for something cool to do? Thanks
Here is the link. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163341.aspx
I compiled the application but didn't test it.
seems to work im not sure about its effects on the battery tho
This is super-cool! An even better feature would be for it to automaticaly adjust in-call volume. There was something like this posted before in this forum, of course I can't find it now. :/

works!
suggestions:
- add config to be able to set the interval of the loop.
- create a separate exe that automatically runs, checks the ambient noise, adjusts the volume, and exits, without any window. This will be useful when using a scheduler program.
So do you think it is worth that I take this and develop this further?
yes, sound great, please continue to develop this great app
Thanks

I will split this tool into two programs. One will be a console application that can be started with parameters and the other will be a UI to change some settings. The console application will allow to run it in a defined interval or one time (for use with other schedulers or tools).
Once I have the first beta ready I am going to start a new thread and will post the link here.
Stay tuned
Sometimes I miss the "Like this" button here ;-) Thanks!
Here is my version:

Please post all feedback and suggestions in the new thread.
I will test it
I will test and I let the feedback.
Not sure if this is the right place but I was curious about creating a Profile or something to turn off notifications (text msg, email, tasks...) except for the phone? For example on my Blackberry you have a profile to mute all sounds except a phone call, like a night profile. Does this make sense? I know I can manually do this but I would like to click something to change the profile.
There is no built-in sounds profiles support so you'll need to install an application to give you the functionality. I don't use one but see if PocketZenPhone gives you what you want.

Thanks, I will take a look at it. If there are any other let me know.

I tried this and it works fine.
Actually, I tried PZP years ago on my MDA (Wizard), but had forgotten about it. I was missing the ability to quickly/one-button configure ring-tone, volume, etc for different situations (e.g., in the car, at my office desk, at home) -- an ability which is standard on dumb-phones, so I'm glad someone brought this up.
This is an old program, but it seems to be compatible with my WM6.5.3 Manila 2.5 OS -- finger-friendly, even.
Thanks for the link.
You may also want to look at phoneAlarm. Probably the most complete - and complex - WinMob profile application around. But, it actually gives you total control over the phone - including the interface - if you desire. www.pocketmax.net
