Hi, I have Blackstone from Orange UK. I have a big problem. On 10 calls only 3-4 is good, the rest is "the person is temporary unavailable". Sometimes after soft reset is good for half day. After is the same 3-4 good rest is faulty. Why is that. This is very big problem for me becouse I missing important calls.
Sorry for my English.
Any ideas for that?

Could you describe the problem in a little more detail please? Is it receiving and making calls that this message comes up?
Petrov.
This is only incomming calls (when somebody calling to me hear this message). Outgoing, text(out,in) are good. I was set manually GSM/UMTS band on UMST(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800), (before was auto) and now is a little bit better than before. On 10 calls 8 is good
Sorry for my English.
2G sounds like your solution!
your problem as is/was mine, orange has a great 2G network, however they have this very bad habbit of setting all their new phones to goto 3G, i live in wales, and find 3G - to be NIL. So i set my phone as in the earlier posts, to the 2G setting, it cures battery issues, and ensures u have a virtually 100% call rate.
Try it, you'll notice its alot better, either that or you've a duffer, in which case get rid, they'll send you another brand new device if you've had it less than 30 days, its your right under the consumer goods act.

I did like you wrote. And is very good!!! But my question is: for what is 3Gconnection? Only for video calling and faster internet? If is that than i don't need a 3G connection.
Sorry for my English.
troxter!
i had the exact same problem with my diamond, tried all available radio roms and settings without succes. i went to warranty and they said that the mainboard of the phone must be replaced. after 33 days in service i managed to get it replaced with a new one. your phone is defective! i am almost sure! go to warranty!
Hi!
I bought this mobile 17th november 2008. Can I exchange on new phone in Orange shop? I bought phone in normal shop on Wimbledon. For e.g. I will go tommorow to orange shop at Wimbledon with broken phone and they give me a new one?
My guess is the phone is updating data and you are on a 2G network. No simultaneous voice and data, so the caller gets the unavailable subscriber message. I would try setting the phone to GSM only, if you are in a 2G area.
Although not as serious, I have the same problem on my Motorola L7 on O2 (Presumably 2G)
I live in south London, so coverage of 3G is good(on Nokia N95 was 7 bars on strength). However, when I set manually on 3G or auto, signal strenght of 3G is only 2 bars. When i set on GSM is full strenght of signal(4bars). Question is:
Is this a problem with phone or with Orange Network?

Hi guys,
Can anyone help me... I have bought the TyTN just two days ago and since then I've been struggling with a very bad phone calls quality. I haven't been able to finish properly any single call since all of them are dropped in a middle. It looks like the phone is loosing reception whereas I know for a fact that there is a very strong signal in the location I am.
I've upgraded the software today but the problem still occurs. Do you know if this is a known issue or just this particular phone is broken?

Well seeing as you've upgraded the Radio and seeing as your case is quite extreme ie losing calls completely I think i'd try testing it using GSM only. Some folks have reported that if you are in an area where 3g is around but perhaps not always the strongest signal then the phone will swap around from GSM to UMTS. So you can try:
Start>Settings>Personal>Phone icon>Band
in top drop down box select GSM
in second drop down box select the GSM band for your area (if unknown try each until you get the working one)
IF this makes reception better/constant then you have the swapping bands issue and you can leave GSM selected and turn on UMTS when you are in a stronger 3G area.
If this makes no difference return the settings to auto for the drop down boxes.
If the above fails then have you got a new 3G SIM older cards can give problems.
An application that assists with setting certain bands only is Bandswitch or Commmgrpro - Here's an early version:

Thanks Mike for your reply.
Actually I did play with those settings a little bit but it didn't help. I'll go to the shop where I bought the phone and ask for help. Thanks for your attention.
RG
You know of any apps or way to get a shortcut onto the today screen to quickly switch between 3g and edge? Where I work is good 3g coverage, but where I live is right on the cusp of the connection ... so I find unless I turn off the "auto select" and manually choose GSM, I have dropped call problems. Would be great to be able to do this without having to go to phone settings each time.
Weinson,
Searching for BandSwitch by Daniel Herrero on this forum will reveal just such a tool. BandSwitch sits in your WM5 task tray and has the option to switch to GSM or UTMS or Auto with some time delays (before switching back) build in.

Recently my Vario II intermittenly loses network signals, it says No Network and I have to toggle phone off/on to make it search for signal again. This only happens when I'm at home (Charlton SE7 area).
Rom 1.21.110.3 (19/06/06)
Radio 1.05.05.00
Does anyone have the same problem?

Flash HardSPL first, then upgrade your radio.
Ive linked to my guides incase your unfamiliar with the process.
The newer radio should possibly increase your GSM efficiency. Are you in a decent area for reception?

Hi, many thanks for your detailed guides. I've upgraded Radio to 1.38.00.10 but the problem still persists. I'm in a very good coverage area, always get full bars 3G when it works. Soft-reset my phone and now it's searching in vain for network signal, I'm confused
What operator are you with ? Maybe the cell where you live is getting overloaded. We had a problem similiar to this last month when our local base station had a problem. Our work-around was to disable 3G but not using a Hermes . Apparently the handset tries to register using the 'best' data-bearer its configured for. So disabling 3G made it register with GPRS which worked fine. They then fixed the base station and we were able to re-enable 3G. I would
guess Charlton would have a lot of subscribers per cell. You would expect the coverage to be better in a built-up areas but who knows. Maybe an enquiry/ complaint to the operator would at least tell you if they know of a problem and if its temporary or longer term
Cheers for that. I'm with T-Mobile. What's bugging me is that this signal disappearance only happens sometimes. It's not that I don't have 3G (or signal for that matter) at all, I still get full 3G signals fine most of the time. But you probably were right, looks like it's a fault from the operator's cell in the area, I will give them a call next week to see if there's an explanation.
I've noticed this problem when I'm in the south London area (very general I know). People have got around the issue temporarily by forcing the phone to GPRS only
More problems! After upgrading to 1.38 and trying all sort of "good" radios like 1.17, 1.27, 1.34 I can't make/receive calls unless GSM is forced. There must be something wrong within my immediate area because with the same radios everything works flawless just 10 mins down the road. I just called TMob and there's no technical fault or anything from their side. I will just have to put up without 3G until the problem fixes itself
There are lots of people complaining about 3g on T mobile in UK. They seem to have serious issues with Hermes devices and the dropdown to GSM.
I had a problem six months ago with my hermes on orange at home in SW London. For a few weeks it was mucking about - I rang O who advised me that they were experiencing some local issues but would fix them within days. I switched to GSM for a few days. When I switched back its worked fine for last five months.
3G gone mad!
the same thing was happening to me. Full 3G reception in Leicester, tried to connect to get my e-mails and then the signal totally goes. The same thing happens when I make calls as well. Switched to GSM and everything worked. Now in York and everything is working on 3G.
Network is T-Mobile.
This sounds similar to the issues I am having.
Do you get the phone hanging as it attempts to start a call and then after a while a message stating that it was unable to connect?....sometimes resulting in a soft reset to bring the device back online? In my case toggling bluetooth will reset the connection.
I am with T-Mobile in Glasgow but get the same issues during the day in Edinburgh
No 3G

No mine doesn't say anything, it sounds "ding ding" after a few secs like when you press the hang up button. I can use the Internet but anything to do with calls is just impossible. I've switch to GSM now and everything's back to normal. A bit annoying can't use 3G at home.
There are a few thread's already on the site about signal problems with the X1 however many are quite old and I thought a specific one with a (so far so good) solution would be welcomed.
Many people have had problems with their signal being lost or being poor and there are posts on the Vodafone forums, here, as well as many other sites and many suggest they have contacted SE without much success. Mine got so bad I was ready to give up the phone and go to N97.
I had some advice from someone at a local friendly phone store about what may be the problem and he suggested (to stop me claiming on my insurance I'm sure) changing the connection settings so it only looks at GSM.....
.....I did this three days ago and since I have had no loss of signal and my signal strength has been better than ever.
To do this:
Start > settings > comm manager > settings > phone > band
Select your network type : GSM
Not sure of the significance of this change (from auto) but its worked wonders for me
Phone:
O2 UK, R3A, xperiatweak, mms changes, Dashwire, advanced config, spb galore
Good luck and I hope this works for you (let me know how it goes)
Found the same problem when I first received the phone, I too changed the band to GSM, mainly to save battery usage as 3G wasn't needed and noticed the signal is A LOT stronger...
Not noticed any downsides to disabling 3G either as my internet browsing is still very fast using Opera Mini.
maybe a stupid question: with 3g disabled, can the phone still lock in HSDPA?
i dont think so
in theory when its connected to 3g it should still have a gsm link as backup to switch to if there is a problem
still working
A week in now and the signal is still without problems and I've found the battery life of the phone is at its longest since I got the phone at the end of last year
In answer to other posts - I've remained connected to O2 UK Mobile WEb (GPRS, 3G) despite selecting GSM only
This is useful only if you don't need 3G or 3.5G... If your 3G coverage is ok, there is no trouble either... There is a huge change depending your operator and your location
i did this for a couple days and had to switch back. i've NEVER been able to connect to 3g (i have an X1i in america where the X1a is sold), but upon applying this change of setting i couldn't get HSDPA anymore and all my internet/data activities was like creeping death. i could only connect to Edge, which is practically unusable

nope! but its going to use EDGE which is also pretty fast.u probably wont notice the difference on a smartphone anyway.

lol are you kidding? when i'm on edge i might as well be tapping morse code across two cans with a string between them. everytime i pull up google maps on edge i might as well pay a homeless guy to steal me map pages, it would take a lot less time..... HSDPA is the complete opposite for me, everything loads almost instantly
Hi, most of my details re an issue are posted in the dev thread in the LeeDrOiD entry, basic issue is that my new DHD has been suffering from 'issues'
I am on Vodafone Australia and at the moment the network service sucks, and I have lodged complaints with them and the TIO as regards this.
My main issue is that calls went straight to voice mail and also lots of dropped calls, I have spent days and just now 7 solid hours trouble shooting, I have used 4 phones, 2 sim cards and have built/cleaned/rebuilt my DHD so many times I do not wish to think about it. After each build I could neither dial out or get calls.
For what it is worth, Vodafone say it is a network glitch, but I have now discovered what 'may' be causing the issue, I will need other non Vodafone peeps to try contact me tomorrow to confirm.
The 'fix' so far is to only enable GSM, it is set to GSM/WCDMA by default, either WCDMA or GSM/WCDMA make the phone fail, selecting GSM WORKS!!!
I have loaded and unloaded so many radios thinking that may be the issue, questioned each application I load as regards its impact and all it is looking like is a bloody setting that for some reason worked and now doesn't.
Let's see how vodafail answer this one...
Might be worth noting for your own testing at some point....
Could be you have poor 3G coverage at your area. The phone will then try to force 3G if it sees a tiny signal. This can cause loss of all connectivity. This happened to me once I was at Perth Airport. I'm with Optus and could not get make any calls or text if i had it on 3G. GSM only worked fine.
Could also be the phone handling changing from 3G to 2G very poorly. Never had this problem in Sydney though.
I agree with the guy above, I live south of you guys with no 3g coverage and for the first few weeks I had it in auto select and it was on 2g all the time. I use leeroids v1.4 with the radio recommended in the first post.
Hi silashack,
I am having exactly the same issue with my Standard UK Desire on Vodafone.
With WCDMA/GSM enabled the phone drops all the bars of service, then it will come back to full service but you cannot make or receive calls/txt messages or use the data connection.
Spent an hour on the phone with 1st level support and got nowhere (no surprises). I have a mate here at work with me, same phone, with VF as well and he is having the same issues as me, and they started at the same time last Thursday.
Do you think it could be a service fault?
Edit: No root here, just standard ROM. Come to think of it, there was a small update here a short while ago....
I am reading in a few places around the globe that these issues are NOT even country isolated, I thought it was just (possibly) Vodafone AU, but I have seen the very same issues mentioned on Vodafone UK and also Orange UK, T-Mobile and a few others, I do not even think it is isolated to the HTC Desire HD.
Would appear there is a global issue and it may be a while before the truth comes out
Well that one's for the tin foil hat brigade to play with...
I would have no issue if the feckin thing dropped to GSM and worked, moving back to WCDMA where available, but to just stop working is just not acceptable in 2011 FFS

As you guessed in an earlier post, it's definitely network related. H4tch3t over on one of the .za forums reckons he's solved it, and it's a mission I'm about to embark on as well (because not having my phone running at full capability is annoying as hell).
You can read more at hxxp://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/320427-HTC-Desire-HD-voice-calls-on-the-Vodacom-network-not-working (replace the xx's tt, apparently I'm too new on xda to post external links)
Vodaphone wcdma not working
Yeah I think you guys have nailed it this is nt an issue that can be fixed by the user it's a problem with the networks maybe a satellites gone down or something but one things for sure we will be the last to know
re
I just got the same issue in Sydney with Vodafone. My DHD worked fine yesterday morning. But afternoon, I can't make/receive any calls.
The mobile signal bar is full. But still.
I changed to GSM only. the phone call works fine.
I would call vodafone to check it.
they give me another reason to change to another operator.
sounds like congestion.
Helo all..
I just brought that phone s4 9505 lte version for 1week ago. And at that time I did not find any issues on my phone. As u know I only checked using wifi and play games. It seems to work well everything. But today I am realized that something wrong in my galaxy s4 particularly when I use data network. The main problem is in the H symbol that always appear in the top of the screen with 2 sides arrow. When I do nothing with my phone or idle for a short while, the data connection suddenly stop working which means u can not browsing at all even making a call and texting. So the only way is to refresh the network or change the mode or restart your phone.
I dont know why it always happen in my phone many times. I have tried to refresh network and change the mode then give back to the wcdma mode. It occurs same issues again after a couple hours. But I did not notice where I use gsm mode.
About my signal is good. No drop signal at all. But I always encounter that problem. Maybe anyone who has the same issue .. plz inform then we can try searching out the solution. Thx
Addition information.. I buy this phone from singapore comes with official local warranty.
Actually. I have not tried to change another provider and I hope this cell is not fault factory.
I will try with different area and provider first then decide possibility

Are you on vodafone? There is quite some discussion going on in german forums where the lte - 3g change seems to be problematic when on vodafone network with the i9505. If so you might want to check forums like android-hilfe.de or so. Btw. Im in switzerland on provider swisscom and have the same problems. Data connections drops completely every few minutes. Very annoing.

Yes I notice in other sub thread there are quite a lots number signal problematic. Yet in my case is different from that case..
I just tested set into wcdma mode along night and until now it still work perfectly. This problem can not be predicted when it will occur. Sometimes I browse internet for 2 hours..afterwards my phone can not be used completely even testing and calling. I hope this is a provider caused.
