Hi there,
Got my new G1 (BRILLIANT) the only problem is that when i'm using the GPRS network (for power saving) i cant send mms. The problem isnt network related because the sim can send them on 3g using the G1 and on GPRS in my SE w880, a few of my colleagues are having the same problem and were just looking to see if its only us or are other users having the same problems?
Using RC8.
Thanks In Advance
I havent noticed this problem yet, but I could assume its down to the data connection and the "mms data" connection being two different settings.
On my Hermes (WM) I couldnt send a mms without disconnecting my internet connection and allowing the phone to connect to the mms data connection.
WM could be altered to use the data connection to send MMS'. I assume the G1 wants to keep the data connection open all the time (which on 2g/gsm is your one and only connection) and this prevents MMS' being sent.

Hi,
I have had a search to see if this has been covered before but maybe I am using the wrong query.
I have an O2 Exec with the latest O2 Rom, and now when I do an email send and receive, the GPRS connection stays up. Whereas I could have sworn in the earlier ROM it disconnected after the send/receive.
I spoke to O2 and they assured me that it is supposed to do that, and since I only get charged for actaul data transfer, I can sit connected to GPRS all day for free (is this correct).
Now, my main question is. Say GPRS is up and connected, and I turn on WIFI or plug into my PC using the charger/sync cable and then do a send and receive. Will the Exec use these free connections or still route data over the GPRS?
I did a test and it looked as though when I did this, the GPRS connection was shut down, as after a send/receive and then disable WIFI, the connection setting showed a large U and not the connected icon.
I am now sitting with a GPRS connection active, email is set to manual and I have Pocket Weather set to 'Auto update on connection' and 'Auto update on Active Sync', but 'Use connection manager' is disabled as is 'Force a connect when not available'.
Should this mean that no data is used at all and that I can sit connected at no cost.
Sorry for the long rambling post, but I am a complete newbie to all this GPRS pda thing.

related question - how to stop gprs connecting automatically
My wifi router at home is dodgy and sometimes the signal drops - this means my exec switches over automatically to GPRS (I'm not in a 3G area) and starts whacking up a big data bill before I realise. Is there anyway of getting it to ask me if I want to connect to GPRS - rather than it just telling me thats what its doing? Can't turn the phone off cos I still need to receive calls.
I did think of just scarmbling my connection settings, but now I've upgraded to the latest O2 rom the connections settings page does not show any existing connections! (I also can't get TomTom to run at all now but I guess I'll work through that one :-( )
Thanks,
John
I believe this is what you are looking for. Y
ou can set which connections programs use for thier internet access in Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced, Select Networks.
Choosing My Work Network or My ISP should stop programs sucking up your money.
Thanks PReDiToR I've tried that but it then gives me a 'cannot connect' popup instead of using the wifi - it seems as if there has to be an accessible gprs connection for it to ignore before it will try wifi :-o
What does everyone else do? Maybe you're all rich or the company pays for your data?
Thanks
Any luck yet with the GPRS / WiFi issue?? I have got the sam

Derrr...
EDIT: Hey I've just read what I've written below and its exavctly what Preditor suggested - funny didn't work when I tried ........ I guess it was because I was trying 'My ISP' without gprs settings - which complained - whereas 'My Work Network' without gprs settings allows the wifi to connect ... :?
I've now got a workaround for this - means going through the menus every time I DO want GPRS data - but thats rare till I get a better contract which will have to wait till my 12 months with O2 is up in November.. web'n'walk sounds good - unlimited gprs :-o - (could T-Mobile really tell when I was using my XDa as a modem for my laptop - which is forbidden in the terms of this contarct - and when I was just usng data for its own programs - which is allowed ??)
Anyway what I do is settings>connections>advanced>Select Networks> choose My Work Network for programs connecting to the internet. I have no gprs settings in My Work Network but it connects to wifi no problem.
So when I forget and I'm out of wifi range I get an error that it can't connect, so change the setting back to 'MY ISP' and GPRS kicks in.
A Today Screen shortcut to the Network Management screen would help - but I'm almost always using wifi so I haven't bothered.

hey all,
Quick question, is it possible to block the D810 from using Optus 3G network to connect to the net?
I only want to use Wifi due to the charges that optus dish out when using their network.
Any ideas?
Thanks heaps
Hello,
I had the same problem with the 3G because when I open a internet explorer, it connects automatically to the 3G network.
The solution is on the forum : take a program named Bandswitch that allows you to turn off 3G, HSDPA, GPRS etc. That will save you some money and autonomy for your Trinity
hey,
thanks for the reply.
Does the program also stop connection to send MMS though?
thanks
ok cancel the question.
I actually called Optus (and the guy was helpful!!! OMG!!) all sorted.
Just deleted the Optus setting in the ISP and that is all, still can send MMS's but no net access.
thanks.
For anyone else interested, the answer to the earlier post is that Bandswitch can be set to allow/disallow each of the connections individually, so you can block the Mobile Internet APN, but still allow MMS and/or WAP depending on how things are configured by your Telco.
Hey guys, I have the ATT 8525 with no data plan. I would like to know if there is a way to block my phone from accessing the ATT data network. If I want to use the internet and so forth I will do it over wifi, I just want to make sure my phone won't access the ATT data network by accident.
Thanks!
Just call Customer Service and tell them you want to request WIX Blocked.
I believe MoDaCo's NoData will do the trick..
Shuts down the data connection but wifi is still available. Made for people going overseas and such without an international data plan.
I'll post it here when I find it...
edit: attached!!
Thanks buddy.. I was also looking for something similiar.
I have a question for you!!
My problem was almost the same. I have my MMS settings and when I activate that in the Connections tab as the connection to connect to the internet inorder to receive or send MMS, then if I try to access my inbox it checks through the data connection eventhough my WiFi is active...
So will the cab file that was posted here blocks the MMS?
Thanks
Jish
yes it stops your phone from acessing any grps or edge networks. i personally just removed the grps account settngs
Unless your provider has some redirect to email feature or whatever, MMS can't be transferred via internet. They need a direct connection to the provider's servers.
Hi,
My T-Mobile Uk MMS has stoppped working all of a sudden. Have been able to receive MMS messages in the past without a problem but now I suddenly get a message at the bottom of the screen that says " Error Synchronising".
I have used tmobileukfixed to reset my settings with no success.
It's annoying me as it was working. Typically as these things go somone has sent me a couple of mms messages and I haven't received them which is annoying.
Can somone help ?

One thing to check, as I've found this with my Ameo, is that you're not connected to a Wifi Lan. WM doesn't seem to know to use the 3G/GPRS connection to receive MMS, and tries to use the default internet connection which, when active, is the Wifi.
Thanks for the info. I have my wi-fi disabled. I think I have found a solution when i can find the cab that is !
Cheers for looking and replying though
Dave

Hi Guys,
I have been searching the forum and the net for most of the day trying to resolve this one.
I have a T Mobile Vario IV and have reflashed it with Proven ROM 2.4 and the up-to-date radio. I use a hosted exchange server (sherweb) for my email, contacts and calendar.
When using wi-fi, the internet and activesync works perfectly and I synchronised my contacts and email folders using this after the reflash.
When using the T-Mobile data connection, the internet works fine but activesync is not able to talk to the exchange server and times out with a message suggesting checking connection settings. I have checked, checked and checked again all the gprs and data settings and they are all as advertised. I have even resorted to asking T-Mobile for a configuration message for data settings which didnt work either.
It seems that Activesync is not able to do its job via the T-Mobile data connection.
Does anybody have any ideas at all?
Thanks in advance
Chris
PS - The activesync worked fine over the T-Mobile data connection before the reflash.
UPDATE!
Sorted it out in the end, make sure that you UNCHECK the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" option under START-SETTINGS-CONNECTIONS-CONNECTIONS-TMOBILE-INTERNET-PROXY SETTINGS
