is there a way i can do this so i can fit more on my phone and listen to more music?
Are you using an 8GB SD?
I have 500+ songs, 2 full length movies, documents, photos, and other program files on my card with 2GB still left.
MP3 files are already compressed at an approximate ratio of 11:1, so there's not much more you can do to them other than re-encoding them to a lower bitrate.

Exactly - Encode the mp3 to a lower bitrate; however, you will loose sound quality - I personally wouldn't do it. Get a bigger memory card to fit more music - that is what I really suggest

Anyone know somewhere to download sub 128Mb converted movie files, I appreciate this is a touch immoral/illegal but I only want to download movies I already own, and bearing in mind how long it takes to download 128Mb on broadband compared to how long it takes to do a conversion I think it would be very popular, perhaps people using P2P or or seeding torents should start hosting movies with a SUB128 Prefix? i,e.
SUB128_IRobot.avi
I reckon this would go down well with PPC owners! Maybe its already on the go what with IPOD's/PSP's
Regards
Even if you already own the movie it is still illegal to download it.
Grey area I think, the same applies to music and yet it is perfectly legal to download music after purchasing it from a legit website, I tunes for instance. Same thing applies to software and yet once you have paid for a key to activate the software you can download it as often as you like and from anywhere you like. I would like to see any court prosecute someone for downloading something they already owned, but that's another subject
gooroo: try some of the p900 sites. They used to be quite happy to distribute them.
The equivalent of xda devs for p900 is probably a board called www.esato.com
I used to frequent it in my heathen days. Search around. They have literally 4 gazillion music videos and films etc on this thread:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=41136&start=465#post609633
Note - it's 608 pages long. Do read it all and let us know how you get on

I hear that Pocket DVD Studio is gfood for converting DVD's you own.... anmd Tempest is good for converting DIVX movies. So I hear.
PocketDIVXEncoder / lathe are very good.
But hosting or distributing these films would be clearly illegal.
However, if you check on ebay you can find a few "superdisks" for the p900 etc with a number of compressed films on them...

This is a great idea.
Why 128MB though? Is this a good quality/filesize compromise?
Is it easy to rip DVDs into that size for playback on a PPC? I'd love to know how for long journeys, but my only experiments haven't been successful.
128Mb so it would fit on a 128Mb memory card, but not written in stone, I played for ages with various s/w but now have IRobot in 200Mb full screen on my Universal, looks great, but took ages to do the conversion, thats why I think that website may have been started? Hehehehe

640x480, movie length, in 200Mb??
What sound settings?
i use pocket DVD studio to convert movie to 320x240 at 15fps and reasonable default sound and get 200mb per film.
it plays back very well with good quality sound and picture bearing in mind the resolution. the only time it pixelates is on fast moving action but cannot complain.
i have chosen this setting because a) i had a blue angel before the Exec and converted these before hand and b) i can get basically 4 movies on a 1gb card so watch while at work in quiet times.
i will give the 640x480 setting a try once i get round to converting my star wars box set collection onto ppc format.
thanks
I didn't convert IRobot to 640x480, I coverted it to 320x240 with Stereo FM quality, I also adjust the start and end to remove the intro and credits. When playing it back with TCPMP it gets scaled to fill the Universals screen automatically when you select full screen. The screen is not much bigger than a 320x240 screen anyway so when scaled to fit the picture is still pretty damn good on the Universal, I really dont think the extra size of the final file is worth the true 640x480 resolution, but if you want to play it in windows media player you do have to convert it to 640x480 to get full screen playback otherwise it plays in a smaller area in the center of the screen.

My apologies. i jumped to conclusions.
For my favorite movies,i need to rip and back then up to disk.
With an hyper independent toddler who scratches my disks, it's good to have a back up.
I would just suggest converting your own...
Pm sent man....
YOu don't have to download them "for the N1" You can use any movie you want and use Any Video Converter to convert them. There is an option to specify which device you're converting for and you can just select Nexus One and push convert. It's much easier than dealing with selecting the codecs and everything with other programs.
I've used doubleTwist to convert and sync some movies... but it takes FOREVER!!!
If you have enough cores and OCed then you can do other stuff while it encodes

I have a lowly Intel Core2 Duo laptop with 3gb of RAM. Not amazing, but as law student, it's always been more than adequate. Anyway, converting and synching a gb of music from wma to mp4a, and a couple gb of avi to mp4 takes a couple of hours...
I think other converters can do this much faster, then I could just drag and drop straight to the SD card, since copying stuff with the card mounted in the phone is slower...
What would be great for doubleTwist, is if you could do the conversion without the phone connected to the computer (currently, it has to be plugged in the whole time), then synch later in a much shorter period of time. Maybe I should email them...
If you watch this, then you would know that you get Avatar for free with your phone. Sounds like a desperate move from T-Mobile to differentiate it from the other variants. I'm jealous.
They are just having a movie to show off the screen just like for Transformers on the HTC HD2
Desperate? Uh, why?
The AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Galaxy S phones will probably come barebones with nothing besides the phone, a battery and the charger. T-Mobile always includes some extras and accessories with their phones. Like the headset, MicroSD adapter, an extra back cover, Avatar, and a GoGo free trial.
great - a movie about 8' tall blue smurfs
that's why i'm buying the phone
Got my vibrant today. Its a nice phone coming from the nexus. oh ya the avatar movie is DRM (.dcf) unlike the one in HD2 where its just a mp4 file.
that explains why i couldnt copy the file to my hard drive. i dont mind the movie being drm but if thats the case why not install it on the phones built in memory.. if a change memory cards the movie is no longer available.. its kind of a give and take
meh, the quality its not that great still some artifact not that sharp
so what if i wanted to copy it to a bigger micro sd car would I be able to do that?
No, each movie is registered to 1 sdcard/device
That sucks. I was planning on buying a 16 gb class 6 micro sd card and placing the movie in there with all my music and movies in to the extra 30 gb ( 16 internal and 14 external )
the internal is also formatted so its actually 13.1 gb available space
oh so I guess Avatar isn't going to be apart of my phone if I can't even put it on another card
Watch the movie once (if you really want to watch it on your phone that is) and then swap sd cards. How many times will you want to watch that movie on your phone anyway. Personally, I'll probably take a quick look at it and that's about it. I'm much more interested in playing my own movies and shows on this thing than watching Avatar over and over.
If you have it on Bluray just make a DRM free copy of it and put it on your new microsd card. While its cool to have, how often will you sit down and actually watch the movie. What you could also do is carry the extra card with Avatar on it with you, like your wallet or something. And when you want to watch it pop it in.

I had absolutely no problem copying the movie from the original 2gb card to my 16gb. It plays fine.
Of course I have no interest in watching it again, but I keep it on to show off to friends.
Yes. It works if you copy it to a another SD Card. It will probably work only on that phone. But it will work on any SD Card. I copied it to a 4GB SD Card and it works fine.

whoa, really? that sucks. Since this is XDA, we can't really talk about options, but I'm sure there are a multitude of ways to strip the DRM.
I kinda doubt that they locked it to sdcards, as ^^ indicates.
Once again, the movie works fine if you move it to another SD card. I moved it to my 16gb card and it works just fine. I think it is just registered to the device, not to a specific SD card. Move it at will!
how do i make a link to the new placement of the movie on the internal drive?
So question folks,
I have the A70H and loaded about sixty GB worth of music (11000+ songs) and I am having trouble getting them to show up in the media library. Aside the fact that it is a ridiculous amount of music, anyone know if there is a technical limitation to the library databases for Android for music, videos and photos?
Thanks in advance, I realize that it may be a strange question.

Yes and the H in the name means that 250GB HD version.
@nokturnihs:
There is a limit, around 65.000 musicfiles.
But most of the time the problem comes from either a corrupt file or a name that the mediascanner can't cope with ( # for ex ).
Check your files if you can find something like this.
The H stands for HDD Hard Disk Drive, the flash version is S ^^
As the title says., i can't find a good deal for HTC One 64Gb version sim free and factory unlocked. I'm not interested in 32Gb version.
Any help?

You forget that they're having major manufacturing problems: they simply can't make enough handsets, so the ones they do make have to be in the most commonly-ordered configuration.
and the cheapest. They're hardly going to focus on the more expensive of the two. It would just put people off.

What, twenty full-resolution 4MP photos and three and a half seconds of 1080p video take up just 4MB in total? I don't think so.
And if you decide to make one of those Event videos, they take up half a gigabyte each, according to TechRadar.
Even the likes of Samsung aren't able to release larger gb versions till months after the initial launch of a product.
Thats why microsd slot is so great..Htc just has to goof up somewhere.

I have to disagree, I have a HTC evo 4g lte with 16gb internal and a 16gb external sdcard and I don't even have half of either of them filled up. I have 9gb free on the internal and a little bit over 8 on the external. And I have enough music on it to play music constantly over a month and not listen to the same song twice. I also have a ton of pictures and videos. And over 50 apps installed. So 32 gb is more than enough for me. And no I'm not kidding myself.

Punny mp3? Man your talking to someone who lives and breathes the music industry. Quality of sound on headphones is limited so why would you want best quality on your phone. I have over 500 gb of high quality music on my desktop. That doesn't mean I want it all on my phone. I've done professional recording, I'm in and out of recording studios and I can tell you that there is a limit to what the best headphones can reproduce. Now if you are listening to your music via a high quality sound system all the time or most of the time then I understand why you would want wav files but other than that high quality encoded mp3 is the best you can get from headphones. And if you think in full of bs, you are completely wrong. I have a bachelor's in music education, a masters in music percmformance, a certified srt (sound recording thechnician) and am currently working on my PhD in musicology. So I know a thing or two about music quality.

My point was that even the best earphones don't produce the sound quality that wav files offer so why bother having such large files. The hardware limits the software so its all that space used up is for nothing.

The earphones I use do - I can tell a difference.
Above 256-320 kbps no human can tell the difference in sounds on earphones with pmp or mobiles..You need professional grade equipment or at least great DAC and music systems with a pair of high impedance high quality headphones [>300$] to hear that difference..not to mention really sensitive ears coz most people are not able to tell the diff even then...so please
