Here is a "Snow Dome" type of application. Completely useless, but it was fun for programming. Try using it 2 days in a row
Watch this space for enhancements over time.
- Changed the speed
All new version on 22 Sep 2008
This has been a complete rewrite of the SnowStorm application and it was a good learning school !
Despite the complexity of the algorithm, I think the response times are very acceptable. If you like to count the number of snowflakes: there are 200 of them and each of them is updated every 40 ms !
I am really impressed with the 3D capabilities of the Diamond !
Using the OpenGLES SDK to create a "pseudo" 3D layout.
- Snowflakes will be larger in the front then in the back.
- If the PDA is laying horizontal, snowflakes will "disappear" to the back-end or stay on the front after a while
- Pseudo horizon, fixed at about 50% of the screen.
- Simple graphics, trees are placed randomly, snowman is fixed
- Simple turbulence (any pointers to good algorithms are appreciated)
- Snowflakes disappear behind trees/snowman, depending on their position in space. They will travel through them however
- Simple collision detection, only sides of the "frustum" are checked, as well as the artificial floor.
Click on the top part to be asked to quit the program. Click on the lower (25%) of the screen to restart it.
Expect some other enhancements over time too.
Needs CF 3.5 !
Important:
If you like my applications and want to donate, consider a donation to Koushik.
After all it is thanks to his (and the many other developers) work and readiness to share it that I can write these programs. I (currently) still get enough satisfaction in writing these programs.
lol... cool ... totally useless!
But I think It should react more when u shake it..!?

Without words.......
But wit an enormous grin!!!!!!!!!!!
Video here.

Nice, but way too slow. The flakes should also move faster when the movement is more violent.
Thx

how about a flying santa when you shake it ?

.net compact framework needed, where can i get the latest version for my diamond?
Totally useless, but...........very cool.
Only a question. I've installed your cab but I've obtained only the second image that you've posted not the first. Is there a way to pass from one image to another ?
Thanks

Currently there is no way to change the images, I just display one each day
So to answer your question: wait for a day
BTW, working on a new openGL based version that might react faster and more realistic
- Also thinking about user selected pictures, so you can insert anything you like.

This could be big... Xperia X1's Fish tank big..., maybe we could use this as a screensaver or as an unlock screen of some kind....
Maybe we should be able to change not only the picture on the background but the color and size on the snowflakes as well, so it won't be just a christmas thing...
Also, maybe you should also put some interactive water in the ball... as for sound? It's not really necessary i think...
Good job btw! Thanks...

I use .NET CF 3.5 for most of my applications. It comes with the ROM image I installed, but it is also downloadable for free from Microsoft. Have a look in this forum, there are several pointers to it. (Sorry, that I can not be more helpful)
I know the speed doesnt need to be turbo cuz the snowflkes are in the fluid (water, etc..) but having this in mind, the movement is still toooooo slow.. Same with the beer application.. Can it be more faster? Take a look here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CEBtJG3pFhI
Cool! Thank you!
cool application for xmas
i do have a suggestion though
i would assume that the large amount of snowflakes caused the slow down..i think you should have about 50 snowflakes at most (maybe slightly bigger if necessary)..200 makes it a bit too clustered
cool good job
Wow I am made up to see this, I don't know why I didn't see it before, I think it may even have been my idea once, so thanks a lot for making it real.
So many downloads awesome!
Edit: Had a play great, better than I thought, Looking forward to be able to run it with my own background image.
I know people have had just about enough of reviews of this thing, but I beleive every single one brings new perspective... so here is mine.
First a bit about myself and how I use the device... I am a power user, email phone, sms, very finicky tweaker, power internet user and moderate multimedia user on my mobile device. Devices I have owned in the past are iPhone, iPhone 3G, HTC Kaiser, HTC Wizard, SE T68i, SE P910i, Nokia N95. I also do mobile device testing at work because we develop a mobile phone application. However thi is more of a casual review.
So here it is :
Initial impressions : The HTC Touch HD, is a VERY good looking device. The moment it comes out the box it jumps out at you, the glossy finish, the sleekness, the minimlastic look is all very nice.
However, you begin to notice when the goodness when you turn the device on. When the thing comes up, and everything gets loaded up, what you see on the screen is ABSOLUTELY fantastic. Enough to take an average cell phone users breath away, the resolution is apparent and spectacular.
My apprehensions in getting the Touch HD were :
1) Keyboard.. I am a heavy email and SMS user and I wouldnt move away from my Wizard for the longest time due to the keyboard
2) Finger use... after using the iPhone, i realized what a pleasure it is not to pull out your stylus anytime you needed anything.
Having said that, let me tell you, that I can totally get used to using a keyboard on this thing. yeah i still miss my keyboard, but im sure in a couple of weeks, I will be very well versed to using the keyboard and ahrdly miss a hardware one. They keys are spaced out, goen are the days of the old WM keyboards and this is good. I make some mistakes but far fewer than I thought I would.
Finger use. The Touch HD is very finger friendly. I can do MOST things without pulling out the stylus (and I have BIG hands). Its also good to eb able to pull outt he stylus for those applications with small input boxes and highlihgting text and if you want to give transcriber a whirl (which works well btw)
Screen sensitivty : This is the one thing that really worried me as soon as i started playing with it.I had been used to a capacitive screen and in my opinion, out of the box it required double the pressure for gestures and just overall feel of it. Made me very anxious at first. But after a while (and a few tweaks) its growing on me. It still more pressure and things are still more quircky since I am not 100% used to the gesturing with that much presssure, (its no iphone) its still very very good. The problem happens if u lift ure finger above the threshold point while gesturing, the application/link gets triggered.
Video : I immideately launched youtube and saw a video.. it looks better than any other mobile phone I have ever seen i real life... and I go to CES... nuff said
Performance : I am very happy so far with it. keep in mind, im a tweaker, so ive got all kinds of junk on it already, and i havene experienced any slowdown or lock ups. I just watched Life using my slingplayer over edge (no 3g in the US.. ) and it was brilliant throughout, in full screen.
Camera : In good light, the camera is as delivered. ALthough even moderately low light, it is unusable, which is dissapointing. Outdoor daytime shots, the thing is a champ and can get decent shots easily.
GPS : Works well, I dont see any lag, I drove around 1 hour in San Francisco, with eyes fixed to the phone and didnt see much lag or loss. GPS doesnt lock indoors on the first floor, on my second floor it will lock within 45 seconds.
Other stuff : I am running ,
Diamond Tweak,
TF3D Config,
Advanced Config,
Background for all tabs (Annoying transparent bar at the top of all manila applications after this.. still very usable though),
Weekday mod,
Automatic Wallpaper changer,
TF3D main clock and alarm goes directly to SpbTime,
WIMP,
phoneAlarm for automatic profile switching (although my locations arent working .. ),
Friendmobilizer for facebook,
MusicID,
Gyrator 2,
SKtools and
Sprite Backup
Adobe Flashlite 3.1
... all succesfully without hitches.
There is other things that I probably missed. I will add to the review as I can.
All in all, the device is totally worth the $700 i paid for it from clove tech, who got the device to me in three days and Chris was very very helpful. People always do a double take on it and the screen is so lovely i turn it on jsut to take a look at the screen. I am very happy with it and keeping this one as my personal device for now.
Dude,
Solid review. I can see from your previous phones your a heavy user, as am I.
Keep us up to date.
G.
cool review from experience! definately keep us posted...
Great Review... Nice to hear good things about the device I spent a fortune on...

Shouldn't this be able to get "ported" to our Diamond?
iPhone Ocarina
So yeah, we've come up with 2 great application/game ideas;
1. The DiamondFlute "one finger on the screen, pressing to any note; and the other finger is turning around the D-PAD and changing the sound like a trombone!! so not discrete but continous sound change like a theremin!! (pls search for what a theremin is)
ofcourse microfone is also the starting point of workflow!!"
2. The New SpaceInvaders "a shooter where there come stuff towards you, while you blow you shoot and then you aim by using the accelerometer; tilting the phone either left or right."
(see attached image of how I imagine it to look like)
multitouch ==> might be a problem for our Diamond
oh right, totally forgot about that. Still, would be cool if someone could do an app that uses the microphone as the iPhone Ocarina does.

Has anyone developed a program that uses the cap pad/screen combo? If you were able to assign a virtual mouse using the cap pad and have the other screen element (note) activated by touch, you could have "two" keys to play... Kind of a cheesy method, but you get the point.

Wow! I was just thinking the same thing! Like use the capactive d-pad + touch screen. Lol.
capacitve pad is a reosta!!! So here is the idea!!

Good idea but who will do this! ) the guys doing for iphone earn quite good money, but for wm, that's not the way so...

do you mean like a portamento/glide/slide?
Actually, I think more games and fun apps can be made with the "microphone-blow" feature. For example a space-invader like game where you accelerate by blowing. Or a shooter where there come stuff towards you, while you blow you shoot and then you aim by using the accelerometer. (Now I really want the last example I came up with, would be pretty cool).
I'll make a concept art-image for it tonight so you'll see what I mean and if some developer happens to read this.
I thought the Diamond did have multi-touch support, its just not enabled because Apple will freak out, you know, because they own everything to do with it.....
Sama with the G1

Here's the image if anyone's interrested. The purple thingies are the bad guys and you shoot those white rings. You aim by tilting the phone either left or right (the black ring aint moving I imagine it to be more like gravity like when you aim)and shoot by blowing into the microphone (I guess it's the microphone they use in the iPhone Ocarina?).
Does this sound appealing?
Dog Whistle/Mosquito Sound
How To Use:

Not working on my Kaiser/Tilt either, program opens fine but I am not able to press the whistle, nor does it say "press the whistle" across the bottom like in your pic. I realize this was made for the diamond, but tilt mobility/mobility digest linked me here. I hope someone can make it work for the Kasier/Tilt, I would love to pester my Chihuahua with it. It could be my ROM, I guess, though. Anybody have any success with this on their Kaiser/Tilt?

I have a need for speed game for the tp2 that works with the g sensor and is pretty damn fun. I just loaded the .cab file and it worked flawlessly. Its friggin cool. PM sent (= And thanks for sharing with all of us!
Many thanks Justin - works perfectly
No Problem, Will try to find more to keep us busy till the SPL is here.
I have a question about the NFS: Undercover game.
I have the game aswell on my TP2. But it plays in portrait mode native, unless you slide out the keyboard, then i goes landscape.
Now on my friends Touch HD, it plays in landscape mode natively. Any idea how i can change it so it will do that on my TP2 aswell?
Playing with the keyboard out is less effective then without, since you still have to press some buttions on the screen.
Thanks in advance.
I have tried myself. I would think that you would have to set your screen rotation so that it changes without the sliding of the keyboard. I have only had the game myself for about 3 days so if I find a definite solution I will lwt you know. Im still getting used to modding these phones as the switch from ttyn II to rapheal to rhodium was incredibly fast for me and the fact that not all are compatible when using modifications is frustrating as hell, I get to know one device and not all that well might I add when a new one comes out. Oh to have all my problems come in a sweet little package with a bright screen and keyboard.
These kinds of games don't belong on an ARM device. The Touch Pro 2 is strictly a business end pocket PC. I'm waiting to see what the HTC Superstar has in store when it comes out
The only games that should be created for the TP2 are G-sensor games, like the Teeter. Unfortunately no one ever develops decent applications for Windows Mobile at the moment, they all focus on the iPhone.
This game works with the g-sensor. Try it before you knock it man its cool being able to steer by tilting your device.
Can anyone post a CAB or download link??? I now have the version with touch control but would really like the gsensor version!!!
PM sent. Awaiting reply anxiously. Thanks a lot.

Did you manage to set it to autorotate? I tried to add the NFS_Underground.exe tot the HTC sensor whitelist in the registry but it doesn tilt. Only when I flip the keyboard it runs in landscape...
hey, please send me a link to that game too. I get my touch pro 2 this week
thanx
gyrator2 will put the game in landscape mode just fine, just be sure to not tilt the phone too far in corners or it will flip the game back to portrait for a bit
And yes, this game is a paid app normally, so spreading it would be piracy. It is however easy to find on the internets (try the name of the game and the name of a well known p2p protocol on google )
