Hi!
I installed servicepack 1 some days ago, and decided to install the updates from htc support today.
Installing these updates went ok even if i got a couple of error messages when installing vitakey.
Well after rebooting I always get a message about access violation at address 00409D0C in module 'CompPtcVUI.exe'
Windows boot normally but the fingerprint sensor is missing at startup screen.
I tried to uninstall vitakey because i thought it caused the problems, but it didn't help.
does anyone have some experience with this and how to fix it?
I tried to run CCleaner too.
I have this same problem on Vista, but usually I use Ubuntu so I have not even tried to fix it.
Ok! I found a solution.
The file CompPtcVUI.exe is apperantely causing the problems.
I don't have Vitakey installed but for some reason this file was not removed when uninstalling this program.
You have to delete this file.
As I said, I uninstalled Vitakey but this file was removed so if you don't need fingerprint access you can remove it to get rid og this error.
This is what I did to fix it:
1. Go to taskmanager ( this is done by pressing CTRL, ALT, DEL at the same time and clicking on Task manager.)
2. Under processes or services tab (don't remember which one) find the file CompPtcVUI.exe end press on end process.
3. Close task manager and use explorer to browse to the Program Files folder. Find the folder with the name AEBU or something similar. I don't remember exactly the folder name. Continue to the next Vitakey folder and you will find the file here.
4. Higlight the file and delete it
5. Reboot and the error should disappear
If someone wants to fix this, can you please post back the exact name of the folder in Program Files so I can edit this post so it is correct?
Also check if the CompPtcVUI.exe is found in processes or services tab in task manager so i can correct this as well.
Hei.
Når jeg prøver å avslutte prosessen CompPtcVUI.exe så kommer det opp en rute som sier at den ikke kan avslutte prosessen, operasjonen ble ikke fullført, ingen tilgang... Jeg plages veldig med pc`n min nå..

tried to install resco audio recorder...
it had asked me to put PITools.dll into the windows directory.
I uninstalled the program now there is an erorr message EVERY time i reload.. saying how it cannot find the file or so..
I even tried to replace the file however windows seems to be looking for it still?
is there anything any1 can think of to help get rid of this error msg.
I tried looking in registry edit ( for the dll... but there is no reference to it)
I'm a complete newbie to this!
many thanks!
My first guess is something in your StartUp folder is still there and trying to run.
How did you uninstall it? This frequently happens if you uninstall it manually. You could always try reinstalling and uninstalling using the Remove Programs applet.
You say it told you to put that dll in the Windows directory...what told you? Were there written instructions that told you to do that manually?
And lastly, what is the "file or so..." message....specifically.
I have had many pocket PC's and the Universal w/WM5 is the only one that gives me consistant installation problems. I had listpro 3.0 installed in program memory. I uninstalled it with the intent of re-installing it on the SD card. Unchecking it from activesync did nothing. Removing from the ppc directly told me that all of the file were not removed. I saw the the folder still existed in program files, do I deleted the directory and shortcuts pointing to it. I have had this exact same problem MANY times
Am I the only one with this problem? I don't find any messages like this.
Next, I try to reinstall listpro and it won't reinstall :x I get a message cannot be installed, try another location (which does not work). Do I need a hard reset? I tryed installing another program and I can still install other stuff, but the removal did not work again.

Hi Gary!
I have a lot of experience in this sh*t. WM5 cannot uninstall or install in a lot of cases. Usually if you still have some files or folders which are on the same location than with the installation, installer says: cannot install. In that case you have to delete (or rename) the folder left, and then you can install it. In other cases installer stays in a loop install condition, and cannot continue. In that case try to install another application to finish somelooped order. I realised another thing, which is very interesting: when you want to uninstall a program, and your pda says it cannot be removed - or something -, if I run Vijay555 killphone application in 98% of the cases after it I can uninstall the same.
I hope this wil help!
Hi,
Perhaps I have been lucky but I havent had any issues with regards to installing or uninstalling programs.
I do make sure that I soft reset before and after - so maybe thats a golden rule!
Matt
Yes, softreset would be a good tip in more cases, but it wouldn't solve the problem when you want to install a program which needs a place what exists.
I did find some files in the windows directory and deleted them. That WORKED. Just doing program files is not enough. In this case, the file name was the same as the program. I don't expect to be that lucky all the time.
I have done soft-resets when it does not work. I do a number of trial programs and tend to forget prior to removal. What a apin
Got to love Microsoft - reboot is the answer to everything.
Installation problems.....
I am having the same problem too.
Even after a hard reset when I try and install Sprite Backup & Agenda Fusion I keep getting the install error: 'cannot be installed, try another location'
It's driving me up the wall! I would have thought after a hard reset this wouldn't be an issue. I'm now the proud owner of an MDA Pro (Universal) that I can't use because the software I want to install won't install.
Can anyone help me please?
Can someone help ? I tried Interkey but was not able to make it run with WM2005 on my Universal, uninstalled it but partially. Now I get a notification error each time I open my XDA Exec with this msg: "Cannot execute \Windows\IKAgent.exe". How can I remove it ?
Thank you,
Interkey link

Has anyone ever figured this out? The link above directs you to the interlink website. That doesn't tell you how to delete this horrible and annoying popup. I have lived with this for 2 years and can't stand it anymore. I have deleted all the paragon software I can find. I've deleted everything Interkey. I have searched the registry and deleted for interkey or anything remotely similar. The only thing I can think of as to why this popup keeps coming up is that Paragon over wrote the normal Keyboard file so I need to restore that file. Any clues???
Have you had a look in \Windows\Startup\ folder?
If not look in registry HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher
Removing InterKey 3.0
1. Go to Start>Settings>System>Remove programs.
2. Select Paragon Software InterKeyPPC and tap Remove.
3. Tap Yes to confirm removal. Wait until the system completes uninstalling InterKey 3.0 and a reboot prompt appears. Tap OK to reboot.
Worked fine for me
Hi,
I've programmed a small MFC-based Visual c++ application which I want to start automatically on boot on an ARTEMIS device. The earlier the app starts, the better. Thus, rather than creating a shortcut in windows\Start up, I decided to add a registry entry into HKLM/init as "Launch90" "myApp.exe" The executable is placed in the /Windows directory.
But it does not start as expected, just occasionally. I got the impression that the application comes up only the second or third reboot (soft reset) after installing the CAB file. After other reboots, no indication why the application fails.
I have already tried to vary the number right to "launch" in the key, tried to set a dependency, set the MFC to static and to dynamic, but the application does not start. (by the way, it works well when adding a shortcut to the start up directory). I have no idea why it does not work with the registry approach. Do I have to consider something special for such kind of applications?
thanks in advance for any idea...
Gunther
Is it signed or authorized?
When you run your application your device asks you if it is OK to run because it is not signed (unless you disabled that in security settings).
If you answered yes once, it won't ask again.
However if you try to launch unsigned and unauthorized app from init it will just ignore it.
Another possibility is that your app is trying to access an unavailable resource (maybe something on storage card?) and crashes. Make sure everything it needs is available during init stage.
I guess the signing issue is one of the reason for the problems. I've in the meantime created an individual certificate, installed it on the device, and signed my application with that cert.
The behaviour improved: At most reboots, my application comes up as expected. But sometimes it does not. I just rebooted my device 5 times, 4 times it worked and once, launching the app failed. Another reboot again succeeded.
Do you think when launching the application with the reg setting "Launch95", it sometimes happen that the MFC DLL can not be accessed (it is linked during runtime)?
Create somewhere shortcut to execute your exe with one and only one parameter: "90"
Something like this:
Code:
0#\windows\myApp.exe 90
If app doesn't start - read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302013
initlauncher may be method for vjtoggletoday missing tray..hmmm.
thx for that topic.
Thanks for the hints, but I'm still not satisfied with the outcomes. I've implemented the InitLauncher.exe (with slight modifications) and it works also with multiple reboots. But then I did a "hardcore test": I rebooted the device, InitLauncher.exe was executed and the second application came up. Then I've removed the battery. Since then it does not anymore work.
The certificate is still listed in the device, but could it be that something happened to the cert by killing the system? (For installing the cert, I simply copied the myCert.cer to the root directory and executed the cert installer by tapping the cer file.)
Or could the signature of the executable have been damaged? Any idea how to avoid such problems?
Addendum to my last post: I've now tried to re-install the Certificate on the device by again clicking the *.cer file - autostart worked again. Thus, I assume that something happened to the certificate on the mobile device. But the question is: WHAT happened...?
I recommend to you test all in emulator at first.
Or make hard reset and test on clear system.
I did a hard reset, re-installed the application and tested again. On warmstarts, it mostly works, but not everytime.
And there's another thing that puzzles me: When I create the CAB-Installer, all modules get signed using the signtool. If one of the modules is replaced (e.g. the replacement .exe is just copied to the device and overwrites the existing one), on first start the device always pops up a security warning as it does with unsigned apps, although the new exe has been signed as well.
Could this be caused by using a proprietary signature rather than one of the commercial pre-installed ones?
I furthermore used the signtool to sign the CAB file (I also tried to include the certificate through a pre-XML file when creating the CAB file) - however, this has no effect: Anytime the CAB is being executed on the device, the security warning pops up...
Possible you use wrong sertificate?
please show name of it.
Also don't forget to install certificate on device!
Basically, its a self-created certificate. The certificate is acutally installed on the device (copied the .cer file to the device and clicked it - it then shows up in the device's certificate list)
When signed applications are manually started on the device there is no security warning. Thus, I assume that the signature of the executables and the installed cert match.
Again back to the start-up problem: When using user-created certificates and when autostarting apps through HKLM/init: Do these apps have to wait for another module to be loaded first?
Không vào được màn hình Home của DVD trên xe hơi chạy winCe 6.0. Xin giúp đỡ.
Hello friends !
I'm living in Vietnam
I recently accidentally reinstalled the system of the DVD in the car.
Run operating system win CE 6.0
Now it's time to start it straight into win without going to the default home screen of your head. I've been able to understand but can not do anything else to make the situation better. Currently the new room is not possible.
Can you just help yourself to boot it (the app home line is: \ Residentflash2 \ app \ home.exe).
I hope you help me. You can instruct yourself how and if any editing software. I would like to thank !

Hello friends ...I accidentally deleted the file \ Residentflash2 \ app \ home.exe . Any one can send me this file ? My double din not work any more .
Today I tried the SD install of ICS as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437463 Used brand new 16GB card, created \\ICS folder, copied contents of the 7Z file; In WinMo File Manager, opened CLRCAD, then HARET - after a green HTC logo, restart to WinMo, tried several times to no avail. OK, just a testing, can try later...
Then I changed the SD card, inserted my original card used with WinMo and restarted WM.
BIG PROBLEM - I'm getting error message whenever running a program now, error msg reads "The file 'some file' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
Searched the forum, found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392087. I have no reg editor installed, tried to install Total Commander but received "Installation ...was unsuccessfull".
What is the reason for this problem? How can I sort it out?
Thanks in advance
Have you an ActiveSync on your desktop PC? Try to use some registry editor that working via ActiveSync. For example "Remote Registry Editor", or look at that post. There is a link to such program.

Thanks. Downloadad/installed the CAregeditor on PC, opened registry of my HD2. I cannot change the value, getting "Write error-access denied/Cannot write value data". Any ideas?
Just 2 ideas:
1. "Connect to Device in CeRegEditor -> Tools -> Unlock Registry" (from this post). Or...
2. Hard-Reset
PS:
Some time ago I've used Android from SD, and got exactly the same thing... This caused me to reflash the ROM, but I've changed "0000101a" to "1" right after reflasing (this helped me to forget this problem).
Tried to unlock, still can't change the value. Also tried the other program recommended in the post but no - I cannot install it on HD2 - still the same problem :-(
Hard reset & ROM reflash probably the only way now, what a waste of time with reinstall/config of all the software/tools...
Anyway, thanks for your effort.
