The omina has some fancy animations to rotate the screen when you turn the phone back and forth from portrait to landscape. Can this be duplicated/ported over to the HD?

Yeah they're pretty much only put in there to give the device time to load the new screen.

Yes it is eyecandy (like Dynamo Task switcher) which is why I like it. We need to impress iphone users lol!
I am bumping this thread again because I would really love to see the Omnia animations on the HD. Anyone willing to work on this porting project?
i dont think that it is so easy to do that though i would love it.
but the hd hasnt even the landscape option in every app. as we have to use gyrator i dont think it would be so easy to add that kind of animation

You can have manual screen rotation set to hold the left softkey if you enable landscape in settings then go the buttons,Select rotation then when you hold call it'll rotate every app.
I find it really useless, it takes too much time rotating the screen when you are instead, trying to make the device more responsive and faster.

Here is my thought....
I am very good with graphic design and propose that a lot of developers help me out on this project.
What is the Project?
The idea is to create a "TouchFlo 3Dish" Ui but have the tabs on the side instead of the top.
Why go through all the work?
Well if we are able to do this it would allow for more developers to implement more tabs into this.
Ex. Sports scores,T.V,RSS, Games, and much More!!!!!
Just think of the possibilities.
I have a developer that will help me out on this... but i need more!
Here is a quick dummy graphic i came up with....
I like that idea alot. It's almost like a mix of TFlo3D and the Omnia widget. I can't do much with the developing process but I am good with graphics and theme making so if you would like any help in those fields i'd be glad to assist.
Hope to see this some progress on this soon,

Nice idea. Adding more tabs is always great. But May I suggest something?
I can see that this is probably the screen size of a Omnia. But placing the tab bar at the side of the screen, eats up more real estate on the screen.
Placing the bar at the bottom of the screen, with ability to 'scroll' the tab, would be a good idea in my opinion.
After all, the thumb is at the bottom of the screen most of the time. So it would be easier to scroll the tab rather than utilizing both hands to navigate.
Hope you can take human ergonomics into consideration.

Yes, that would be great for the user to select the location of the tabs bar to be in.
Also, in the truth, the present layout (on the side of the screen) looks akin to landscape mode. I am sure it would be useful for people will slide out keyboards and still be able to scroll the tabs by hand !

this sounds like a great idea how about including the arrow that will hide and unhide the side menu it would be cool to have it........my knowledge of coding is very basic all i cn do is graphic designing and u dnt need that

that is looking good. what do you think of a transparent manila clock?
there is a customized manila over from ppcgeeks by juggalo_x and his manila has a clear clock, i think its nice... works well with custom backgrounds. worth at least taking a look.

Yea I'd have to agree 1000% that this is definitely bad ass!! It makes for real nice eye candy and cool transitions to say the least!! I wonder if this is actually something that can be ported over or made into a cab to be installed to our touch pro 2's?? It's funny to see this thread b/c I've always wondered about this since seeing it on the Omnia way back when it was released so im really surprised the port of that software hasn't made it over to XDA!!?!?! HTC Touch Sense (AKA Manila 2.5) is developed for the HD2 which has no slide out keyboard. The home screen is best viewed "up right" and not in landscape. The only screens that HTC thinks is better viewed or shows more, are the music & photo screens. These 2 screens only use the G-sensor and not the slide out keyboard as the HD2 (Leo) has no keyboard. Until we see newer phones proceeding the HD2 that has keyboard support, we will have limited support for landscape on all Touch Sense screens.

Thats a good point about the landscape, didnt think about it. But I guess the overall smoothness of the whole thing. One I can think of, though i read this rom specific, is facebook integration not 100%. I played with a Moto Droid and android was really smooth and fast, I guess I was more asking why it cant be smooth like android is. Winmo would really be the superior if it had the smoothness of android. Sorry to mispost. I shouldn't post questions at 3am

the main reason for the sluggishness is because it was designed for a phone with almost twice the processor as we have on our tp2's. if we put manila 2.1 on an apache it would be the same story, its the hardware thats holding it back

That's just a task manager. There's a skinable one for WM whose name I can't remember right now, but it's been discussed on this forum recently. Since it's skinable, you can make it look however you wish.

I don't know how it's implemented on Windows Mobile phones yet, but on Android it works like this. What you are at the home screen, pressing the Home button calls the Screen menu allowing you to pick the one you need, which is pretty convenient, but there is one flaw to it. The phones that were featured at HTC's MWC booth made that window pop-up only when we pressed the button while staring at the Home screen. If we happened to be looking at Music, Weather or any other section of the phone, punching the Home key got us back to the Home Screen and that was it. I feel like this feature must work in any place around the UI, and I hope that it will.

Android home screens are customizable and can only be switched one by one which is why the helicopter view might be more important. You can fly with the slider bar on WM Sense so it makes it less useful - plus it'll be difficult to get all our tabs in that Expose-esque view

Actually that's not a task manager, thats the new pinch to zoom homescreen that zooms out to let you select the home screen. It's called leap, see demonstration here

But that's such a massive downgrade.
Lose 0.6" off your screen size, lose WinMo6.5.3 (which is better than Android imo), and lose your NA 3G coverage (assuming you're rocking a T9193).
I will say that at least HTC finally smartened up and started putting flashes in their phones. My buddy has an HTC Hero and the only complaint he has about it is no flash.
To be honest, I ordered one and will sell my HD2. I lose 0.6" screen size and one camera LED, but I gain Android.
Since I'm in Europe, I don't lose 3G.
I've used Android on an old Samsung phone for some time, and I discovered that I simply enjoy using it.
Despite that this phone is awfully slow and has a very small 3.2" screen, I find the experience to be much better than the one I have with my HD2.
Thus, I'm getting a Desire.
(I'd buy a Samsung Galaxy S with 4" screen, but I want at least one LED for the camera: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/samsung-announces-galaxy-s-android-smartphone/)

Just wondering if it is possible for us to have rotation animations on the Galaxy S. It would much improve the looks of it, and would make the phone feel more smooth. I heard that cupcake versions of Android had it, so can we not use the libs to port it to 2.2 FROYO on the Galaxy S?
I put £20GBP as a bounty to the person who does this. Please post here if you wish to offer a bounty to a developer who manages to do this!

This is one of those situations where open source would come in handy.
Your best bet would be to wait for cm/aosp for our phones and then modify source.

I too would appreciate this as long as it didn't sacrifice performance in any way, shape, or form
Another thing that bugs me is that the screen fade on/off is not quite perfect. It was terrible in Eclair, in the latest Froyo XWJPA the fade on is nearly perfect but fade off is still choppy.
You'd think something as simple as fading the display on or off would be piece of cake for this beast. The Aria and Milestone that I use do it very smooth no problem.
It's just little things like this that, when put together, make or break the experience.

If yo guys try it in SGS Tools it will animate. Maybe someone can port that over to all other apps? Pretty sure its not very simple...

Not as far as I know. No Android device has had it since cupcake and I don't see it coming back based on the fact that nobody has worked on it for any phone AFAIK.
The latest Froyo ROMs like JPY are fast enough that's it not as important as it once was, but I still feel that it would give an awesome premium feel to the UI and I'd gladly donate if it was done.

what do you mean by rotation animations? is it same as transition effects? as I start with Froyo I dont have any Imagination about cupcake

I see it on the Tablet-PC Video with Android 3.0. But it is a long way to it. So I would love to see a good animation on the Galaxy. I would donate, too!
I wonder if we could do a pseudo rotation.
You could run a service that monitors the sensor and when the phone is turned it could quickly take a screen shot. The animate that and then show the real screen.
So it would go: Sensor rotate triggered> Portrait Screen shot before rotate allowed, Rotate screen, but show Portrait screen, Screen shot screen underneath> Spin Portrait screen shot around center>Fit and overlay ontop of Portrait screen the landscape screen shot to center and stretch to correct size> then show real landscape Screen.
Hmm I know it sounds alot, but this phone it fast and actually the Iphone rotate isn't THAT fast, it seems to have a little more delay tolerance on rotate than Androids do.
I'm sure this kind of thing would be very easy for a dev to try out. Wish I was a dev
