Guys,
I'm new on WM6 Professional and i780. I'm not able to keep wifi enabled when in standby mode. I've read a lot of thread but suggested tips does not work on i780.
ie
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
On i780 the equipment freezes when turn on standby - I've to remove the battery to resume it.
It seems that this specific registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
causes the hang. If I remove the registry the phone does not hang, but it turns off the wifi in standby.
I'm quite hungry; with my previouse I600 (WM6 Std.) this feature ran correctly.
Any ideas?
have a same problem too

Karen,
after a lot of time I've solved upgrading to the official PDXIB1 - you can download from official Samsung site.
I'm using Communication Manager Pro to switch on Wifi at seleceted locations and select the option to keep the state in suspend mode, too.
bye
Use AdvancedCon for that
what version of communication manager pro did you use?
i get "windows refuses to open commmgr.exe applet(2)" when i try access wifi setup
i have a i780 and i want to keep wifi alive while in standby mode.
i have tried all the programs like CommMgr pro, advanced configuration, pocket toolman. i even tried diamond tweak and HD tweak. those programs all worked and kept wifi alive, BUT no data can be transferred to or from the phone.
i can ping my ip address from the phone, BUT no other ip address. the wifi is kept alive but something is stopping the data.
if i turn wifi off and then turn back on again, it works propperly, but as soon as it goes in standby no data can get in or out.
it seems it keeps wifi alive, but not all of things needed to fully work.
ive tried different ROMS, ive upgraded to the latest DXIB1. and i even tried a WM6.5 ROM and they all have the same problem.
anyone got any ideas?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483149
if i use dont sleep, i will need an app to turn screen off after an amount of time too, because if i turn screen off with a program, when i get a sms or phone call it turns screen on and doesnt turn off again and battery drains really quick.
if anyone has been able to keep wifi alive in standby mode on a samsung i780 can you please specify the:
phone version
pda version
wifi s/w version
and what software used to keep wifi alive and/or registry settings changed.
and maybe the original phone and pda version. i dont know if this makes a difference. mine came with i780PCEHI2, ive changed different versions and different roms, i still have an IP address and can ping myself, and the phone thinks its on the wifi network. but it still doesnt allow in comming or out going wifi data.
anyone with a i780 and might not use wifi that much, would you be able to kindly test it, thanks.
Definetely working methode I have found by experiments to keep wifi on on i780:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SWLD24SP]
add "IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\SWLD24SP1\Parms]
"SetHostWake"=dword:1
"wakecondition"=dword:0 (0,1,2,3,4 all working differ ways)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}]
"Default"=dword:0
Now after SR, wifi keeps connected in standby.

hi, i am having an odd problem after upgrading my rom to letes t-mobile rom and getting rid of customization(soft rest before customization) i am unable to turn off GPRS ( i have entered the GPRS settings manually). the only way to turn it off is to perform soft reset or turn on on the flight mode and then turn it off. when i tab on active GPRS conection there is "disconnect" option missing. is there any way to resolve this problem ?? and the turning off and on on flight mode for some reason dosnt respond really quickly and i have to do it a couple of times.
as to the ROM itslef seems to be OK..and without costumization wizard works really quick !
cheers, matt
Change it with this reg tweak
To disable gprs always being on:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Note that |gprs connection name| will depend on the name you've given your GPRS connection
value = 1 for gprs always on
how do u DO this ?? do i need a piece of software or ??
cheers, matt
You need a registry editor and change the value - find attached.
Copy cab over to device and click on it through file explorer (do not open it on you pc)
If you are not up to doing that - pm me and I'll sort it for you.
i have recently updates my rom to get rid of the customization, and now i have gprs/edge on my fone, but i dont currently have a data serice on my fone, will i be charged if i conitnue usin it
I dumped my three year old Sony Ericsson P800 for a sleek, chic O2 XDA Atom in March 2006.
It was a dream device and I enjoyed discovering myriad of features as this was my first PPC. My main usage is as a highly used phone (more than 6 hours per day on long conference calls) and PIM applications (calendar, contacts etc). I hardly play games, I only have Scrabble loaded. O2 Plus is my today plugin, I don't use any other. I have a 0.5 GB miniSD card on which I load podcasts or videos, though I watch rarely.
I started facing a number of problems that I haven't been able to solve:
1) If I set up the SETTINGS > SYSTEM > POWER > ADVANCED > ON BATTERY POWER TURN OFF DEVICE IF NOT USED FOR 2 MINUTES; it is supposed to turn off the screen. If a call or SMS comes it is supposed to come alive.
This never worked for me. Invariably the screen would fail to come back alive and I'd need to poke with stylus to Soft-Reset the device. As a result my screen was always on. Expectedly battery life was very very low. This is my biggest grouse.
2) The WiFi stopped working one day in July. It used to work very well and I was using Agile Messenger with my home network for few months. That day, it just crashed as I turned it on WiFi and surfed for sometime. The screen turned kind of white and a mix of colors. I tried a lot of things after that including flashing the May ROM, old ROM and so on. No avail. Nowadays if I turn WiFi on it may work for sometime. I may even be able to connect to O2-Connect or the web. But crash it will. And after that the WiFi option also sometimes disappears from the Wireless Manager. It reappears after a number of reboots. Practically WiFi has become unavailable.
3) Browsing using pass-through with ActiveSync using the Internet connection on laptop never worked for me. Tried many tweaks but never got it working.
4) 2 and 3 above mean I have no working Internet connection on my Atom. I used GSM dial-up networking through my ISP account. But it is so damn expensive. Haven't tried out GPRS yet (no idea how well Airtel's Mobile Office GPRS in Bangalore India will work with Atom).
5) Recently, I have been experiencing silence on my phone during calls where I can't hear the other people talking whereas they can hear me. I tested dialing into same conference with Atom and another Nokia set. On the Nokia there weren't any silences while my Atom had multiple silences of couple of minutes each. This has made my Atom practically useless for the phone function.
I'd be very happy to try out any suggestions that you may have. Before I totally give up on it.
XDA Atom
ROM:20060426B1WWE
RADIO:R060428N_MN1ARC_RS00049

upgrade to 0822 RadioRom which you can find in the Upgrade part of this Atom forum, and see if there will be any improvement.
Wi-fi Shut-off when we do the first activesync.
I tried closing all programs by going to settings => memory => running programs => close all.
After that I did the soft reset and started the process "Start => Settings => Connections => WiFi Utility => Menu => Turn on WiFi.
Menu => Jump to Network Cards 3. Under Wireless, select your desired network. (If your network is hidden, kindly tap on "Add New")
Enter your network name (if needed), proceed to Network Key.
Select your Authentication, Data Encryption type and your Network key.
Proceed to 802.1x if needed (it is usually disabled)
Tap on Ok, go to Network Adapters => O2 Wi-Fi Wireless Adapter
Configure your IP and Name Server if needed. (If your network allows automatic assign, you might want to exclude this portion)
Tap on Ok, Ok. Proceed to WiFi Status, check if the status is Connected and IP Address is obtained.
Kindly try to use Internet Explorer to surf the internet"
and started the Wi-fi but it would not go on it showed Wi-fi off instead of the routine radio off.
When if went to Wi-fi => about. It showed Driver: Wi-fi not enabled, Firmware Version: Wi-fi not enabled, MAC Address: Wi-fi not enabled.
I tried the hard reset also yet the Wi-fi would not turn on.
So I reinstalled latest version 20060426-mot0822 of the Atom and before I did activesync I ran the Wi-fi and it worked well . After the first Activesync the same problem started.
For Activesync I am using the new version 4.5.0, Build 5059, Beta taken from the Microsoft site where it has the facility to keep on the Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop yet the Wi-fi switches off.
There seems to be a problem with you software and your technical department needs to study it deeply and provide a suitable solution for it
Now it seems the WiFi turns off when the phone enters standby on my AT&T Tilt with HTC Rom.
Is there anyway to make WiFi be on if I am connected to a network. Its annoying because if I'm on Windows Live Messenger and chatting and then leave it 2 minutes or so it goes into standby. If I turn the device back on I have to reconnect and seem to loose messages.
I want that aswell..... its really annoying always waiting for it to connect.....

Keep Wifi (Bluetooth, GPRS and ActiveSync) connected while phone is in standby.
I've had problems with my wizard finding my wifi network when I come out of standby and I use programs like RemoteAmp and would like to have a constant connection to my network so that when I come out of standby I dont have to wait to reconnect.
Warning!!!
This will also keep Bluetooth, GPRS and ActiveSync connected! You can always manually disconnect.
This will probably work on any WM5 device, but was tested on a WIZ100 running my edited 2.25.11.1 rom.
Using your favorite registry editor (Resco Registry) navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
If you need to search for networks you won't be able to do so by putting the device in standby (quick press of the power button off and back on), instead turn the wifi on and off.
Power state 1 is a low power state, if you find it's not working that well try changing the value to 0. Power state 0 is a full power state.
Yes, your battery will drain faster. I'll report back on how much faster later.
Special thanks to Summiter and Faria for all their hard work, and to buzz_lightyear (buzzdev.net) for pointing me in the right direction!

There is also a tool called PocketToolman.
this tool does more than only enabling Wifi in standby mode.
I'm using it with satisfaction.
Hi there,
Does anyone know if it is possible to have the phone turn off the data/3g portion when not used in X amount of minutes? I know for WIFI it is possible but not sure if data/3g is possible?
Also, it seems when i have wifi and data on, the phone would use 3g over the wifi in OPERA or even updating weather in SPB mobile shell. Is this normal? Anyway to make it so WIFI is first priority over 3G?
Thanks
not normal, the phone should use the wifi first then the 3G.
ps. would be cool if an app or registry hack could switch off 3G when not in use.
I get the same issue with the WiFi not being prefered with SPB weather and also a hotmail email account. I was going to play with "NoData" but would be interested if theres a better solution
Couldn't find a better solution, I made sure to turn of HSDPA in the phone settings, change my network to GSM, then use "NoData" because I don't have a data plan. So far no extra charges.
Try the
GB-SOFT GPRS Tweak (EDGE+UMTS+3G) for WM6.1 - HTC Diamond
found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407264
I installed it on my Xperia and it worked.
try bandswitch.....
Does turning off/on the data/3g part harm the hardware in any way?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
•
SuspendResume = GPRS_bye_if_device_off
•
CacheTime = xxx (where xxx are seconds before auto disconnect, the best value is 60)
after editing registry with this values it should hang up the connection after an specific amount of time without data transferred
Advance config in more setting connection you have the option
My D2 will automatically disconnect the wifi connection when it goes in standby. My old cruise would always keep the connection alive, so that it would be available immediately after turning it on. Is there a fix for this?
A google search reveals!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-368241.html
Edit: although that worked on my XDA Orbit 2 (Touch cruise / polaris) it dont seem to work on my Diamond 2
I found this key in the registry:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended
and changed it from 0 to 1, but that didn't work. After a restart the value was automatically changed back to 0.
Looking around on the HD forum it seems that HD has the same behaviour. People changed that using a program called HD Tweak. I guess we need D2 Tweak...
i would also like to see a solution for this
I have experienced this problem also. If you have push internet scheduled and the phone is on standby, it retrieves the data via data connection/3G as opposed to your WiFi.
Additionally, if you take your phone out of standby, it takes a few seconds for the phone to re-establish the WiFi connection. If you are too quick to access the internet or update weather - again it will start to do this through the data connection.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
did you try Advanced Configuration Tool? You can enable/disable data connections, set them to always on and enable WiFi on standby.

Does it exist for D2 too already?
Yeah got it and it works on D2, the enable WiFi option is there
You could also go to Settings -> More -> Connections -> Wi-Fi -> Wireless networks -> Menu -> Advanced, there you can change how long the Wi-Fi radio should be on if not connected to a wireless network.
Unfortunately, www.touchxperience.com is down, so I can't download it now.

Thanks for the tip. This doesn't solve my problem, but it's good to know.
I found a 3.3 cab elsewhere. What option exactly did you change to keep wifi on on standby? The only logical one I found is Network >Turn off wi-fi if no activity. I changed that from yes to no, but that didn't help...
I know how to do it but it requires some code to accomplish - I actually tested this yesterday on my TD2 (the advanced config trick does not work with TD2). Unfortunately I do not have the TD2 with me right now ... Perhaps I'll muck with it a bit later anyways, else you'll have to wait 'til I have the TD2 in hand again Monday or Tuesday.
It takes a ****load of power to do this though, and I'm not sure if it works in true suspend... it works for unattended mode though.
Well, I found the option in advanced config 3.3, hidden under "More options". But indeed it doesn't work. Wifi still disconnects on standby and starts reconnecting after standby. If you have a solution Chainfire, I'd be happy!
Tomkarb, can you confirm that the Advanced Config trick really works for you?
Isn't there anyone that has a solution? The Schapps advanced config thing just doesn't work
The solution is in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524490
Thanks! That works indeed!
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms]
"HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:00000001
I never found that out, because I always soft reset immediately afterwards, thinking that was necessairy for the change to become effective. The soft reset wiped the change away though.
I've made a cab that changes the registry value to 1. It also copies the cab to the installationdir and adds a shortcut to it in the start menu. So you just have to run it from the start menu after each soft reset/restart (if you need wifi on standby). It only works when you execute it when wifi is off. Turn it on after installation.
There's a great freeware that i use called WkTask, which is a launcher, among other things, and it has the option of turning off the screen, but not putting the phone into standby. Disable the automatic power off and turn off the screen, this should solve your problem. However, i'm pretty sure your battery will drain a whole lot faster with the device never entering standby and the wifi on.
For added functionality, create a shortcut in the windows directory called 'long_power.lnk', and point it at the same file that WkTask uses (you'll see the path when you add it to the launcher, its a 'command call' btw). Then you can press and hold the power button to turn the screen off instead of powering off the phone (which is something i never do, does anyone?)
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the tip. I don't use wifi very often, only sometimes to remote control my pc. So most of the times I want it to go in standby and save as much power as possible with wifi off.
BTW, another solution for some of you may be to use a different ROM. I'm using Topaz Essentials 1.6 ROM (TESS1.6) from chef Aman now, and this ROM doesn't have the wifi turning off problem.
