Hey everybody.
After hours of searching and months of trying, I got my BA WLan fully and stable working.
So much time I wasn't able to turn it on. It always stays off. Using comm manager or using the settings, everywhere.
Now I found the solution for me:
* Make a soft reset
* Do not touch your phone until it is ready
* SKIP PIN DIALOG!!! Simply ignore it!
* Use your start menu to enable WLan using start - settings - connections - wireless lan BEFORE enering then PIN!
It should work like a charm.
* Go back. You should see the pin dialog you ignored before, otherwise click on the phone soft button
* Enter your PIN (WLan still powered on)
After waiting for your phone to be ready you can disable WLan if you dont want it now.
I am able to turn it on and off anytime I want it, except I have made a reset without the above steps.
Hope this helps some users that have had the same problem like me
it works!
i confirm! works for my BA also!
great work! i already thought this problem will never be solved. thank you very much.
by the way: maybe we should create a mortscript that does this automaticly
good that this works for you, too
Thanks for your feedback, nice to hear that I could help you
worked for me too
not ideal
it is certainly not the bestestest way, because it only awoids the problem, but doesn't fix it unfortunately, non the less this way works for me too, even when phone was already started, as i don't have pin control, after switching off phone in comm manager, i can enable wifi in settings as you described, and then turn phone on again in comm manager, takes several tries though, brilliant idea, how did you find out?

@TommyB83,
Thanks for your suggestion to the forum. I will make a small remark here. The steps to actually get this working are as follows:
After a Soft Reset:
1. Go to Comm. Manager (DO NOT TURN ON WIFI FROM THE ICON YET) and click on "Settings" -> Wireless LAN
2. Click on "Turn on WLAN". At this point, the Wifi will try to turn on and turn back off right away. This is ok.
3. Get out of the settings and go back to the main Comm. Manager and try to turn on Wifi with the icon...
Voila! You are connected!
There is no need to input the PIN in the phone part...
Just complementing your post...
Good thread though!
Thanks for this addition, I have made a soft reset each time.
I don't know exactly why I was able to figure it out, I played with this issue a bit and suddenly I was confused because wlan was connected. I was able to reproduce it and posted my "workaround" (yes, this is of course not really a fix, sorry) in here ^^
But I'm very happy to see this helps other users with the same problem

I just got AMEO from T mobile which I believe the same as HTC advantage.
despite of being SIM locked by T-mobile, I am experiencing another problem in waking up the device after it goes into sleep mode.
After I left the device idle for few minutes, it turn the whole screen off. (not only the back lit).
I can see the LED for BT/wifi still blinking.
But no matter which button I press, it couldn't be turn on at all.
As final resolve, I have to soft reset the device every time after it sleep!!!
Can some experts here advise me? is it a defective unit? or some other settings are wrong? Do I need to return it to the vendor?
I don't want to keep the device always on by disabling the auto off feature in power setting either.
Does someone have the same problem like me?
Thanks for any advise in advance.
What happens if you put it on the keyboard while "asleep"? Even if it means taking it off there first.
If doing that and pushing the power button fail to turn it on, it's a defective unit.
it's the same problem even i attach it to the keyboard.
a bit funny though, if i press the power button from the side to turn it off. I won't have any problem to turn it on.
but if i leave it to auto off mode, then i can't turn it on until resetting it from the back hole.
can it be improved if I flash to other ROM?
My Ameo does it occasionally - I find that (re)attaching the keyboard tends to bring it out of sleep better than pressing the power button. I get the impression that by pressing the power button, it sometimes gets confused that its still on and tries to turn itself off (even when it is already off). Tends to lead to a reboot every few days though. Waiting (fingers x'd) for WM6 to see if it behaves better.
do you guys have this option
settings>button>lock
try to toggle the checkbox to see if it helps
I'll try it! I found it under Settings/System Tab, 'Key Lock' icon.
I'll report back within the week.
I can confirm that it doesn't help my AMEO.
anyway, thank for your thought.

To digital:
can I ask for a favor from you. could you try to make the device auto power off without sim card in.
and see whether u will have the exact problem i have or more frequent it dead...
due to my unit is locked to T mobile network, i still haven't put any sim card in.
Tried it without simcard in but it still turns on ok after the fix. TBH, sounds like you're getting the issue more than me - mine only does it occasionally (once every couple-3days) and as yet, I've not managed to locate a consistent cause. I'll keep my eye on it though with the fix and let you all know how I get on.
the other thing that i can think of out of at the moment is that you are running some prog from the sd card/microdrive in the background so when you try to switch your device on then it does not get started and hence the problem...
try tweaks2k (you can use the trial version)
it has a bunch of settings for this... (just check that it is compatible with ameo first)
install 'screenoff' and assign to one of the button.
it works fine.
have to make work around like this now. no idea why this problem only happen to my AMEO...
anyway, thanks for all of u!

I have a similar problem. My device does not wake up in one case from 10 approximately.
Frequency of occurrence of a problem decreases if to close the phone's program compulsorily.
In other branch to me have told, that the problem can be because of the Active Sink's program. Have allowed advice to disconnect automatic start of this program. But I cannot check up because my program all the same is started if to switch off an option of the automatic device. :-(
hard reset can solve the problem completely. ;-)
I'm pleased to say that the 'button' tweak posted here has worked... So far!
Thanks Gents (and lasses if there are any).
That happened to me too yesterday.
I hard reset it and reinstalled everything to microdrive now. (trying to eliminate the possiblity of compaction thread) Removed SPB Pocket plus, which I've come to be quite suspecious by now. Also removed true VGA. So far I have not got a single freeze yet, touch wood. If it runs okay for a few more weeks with no freezing, will put back true VGA and see how it goes again. Will try to isolate the offending software bit by bit.
Hi,
I've had the same problem with my Advantage
After some weeks of test i have found how to solve the problem on my Advantage. perhaps it's only works on mine but you can try.
i have installed "all" progs on memory and not on microdrive. on microdrive i have only a few exe like wififofum or progs not intend to run when i turn my Athena off.
then no more problem waking up my athena.
I think the problem could be that microdrive cause a time out or thing like this when we wake up the PDA then athena freeze waiting about datas from microdrive.
then for me now it's programs like browsers, sscontact, traylaunchers etc .. => memory
programs like painting tool, etc ... => microdrive and close (kill process) them before sleep mode.
and all is ok now for me. The only freeze in 1 week was Pocket IE freezing (but the reason is pocket IE sucks)
There was actually another point that I forgot to mention concerning the freezing. I found out that the free miniSD card came with the bonus pack was actually faulty. With the pocket mechanic professional benchmark, I managed to see only less than 200kb/s read and write! I did a hard reset, and installed everything on microdrive, and touch wood, I have not got a single reset or freezing yet these two days. I install nothing into memory, as we all know that it takes up to 2 seconds to write a block of data into NOR ROM, which is why we should always shift our directory of IE cookies/history/cache away from the main memory. Since the main memory (NOR ROM) is good for executing program in place but terrible in writing, Microsoft's MikeCal thinks we should not keep any data there. (See this thread: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/03/16/552996.aspx ). I try to keep the memory as free as possible to minimise compaction thread kikcing in. Will see how it goes in the next couple of weeks and take on from there.
I'm happy to confirm that, after a weeks testing, the button 'fix' seems to have resolved the issue! Thanks all.
I have been experiencing similar problems.
After being left on standby for a period of time (>10mins), the unit sometimes goes into "autistic" mode.
i.e:
Power button does not function. Unit GSM light flashes, but will not resume from sleep.
I've tried the following:
Attaching USB cable. No change.
Attaching keyboard. No change.
Calling phone. No change.
Soft reset. Starts ok.
I have now tried:
Settings/System/Key Lock
- set to 'Do not lock buttons'
However, I suspect ActiveSync.
The unit was attempting to Sync every 5 minutes, while connected with a USB cable. I therefore followed advise (read elsewhere) to create a dummy server to allow an ActiveSync schedule to be created, then deleted.

This is coincident with the start of the problem.

I had same problem once I enabled Key Lock function.
However, once I disable key lock, it works fine again.
Hey all,
I somehow managed to screw up my Wi-Fi so it now appears to be turned on, even though it's not. The problem is, I can't turn it on..or off. Comm manager won't work. The Connections icon on the top bar of the today screen shows it as on and connected, when I click the icon the big button seems to let me turn the Wifi off, but when I hide the panel and show it again, it stays the same as before. And the other text on the panel writes "Turn Wi-Fi On". Umm..the last few sentences might look a bit confusing..well I have the Laurentius WM6 ROM (AKU 0.5 update 1 I think) so apart from the standard Turn Wi-Fi On/Off text (that looks like an internet link ), there's also a big button serving the same purpose. And simply put, the button looks as if the Wi-Fi was on, and the "link" as if it was off. I hope you get what I'm trying to say here Anyway, I tried hard-reseting the device and everything got fine again, until I restored my full backup (created by Sprite Backup 5 about a minute before the hard reseting). After that, the WiFi problem is back. Anyone got an idea what it could be caused by or what to do to get rid of it please?
Many thanks, Longlife
Well, the problem is solved, dunno how it happened but now everything works just fine Sorry for bothering :S

Hi,
ich have strange problem:
My Touch HD goes in Standby when used as a USB Disk. After one minute or two, the display deaktivates and the device goes instandby. The connection the my pc is lost even during a filetransfer - it drives my crazy.
The only solution for the moment is to touch the display to prevent the device from sleeping.
Has anyone an idea how to stop this silly behaviour?
Thank you
Thorsten
P.S.: When connected the the pc in active sync mode, everything is ok an the device never sleeps...
Are you using any device lock software such as S2u2. If so check the external power settings. They should be set to off.
No devicelock software...

Have you tried changing the power settings? "Set to go off after X mins inactivity" might have something to do with it!

Yeah that will probably help, had this same problem, drove me insane as well. Just set it to charge on usb connection and set the 'On External Power'-setting 'Turn off device if not used for' to something like 30 mins. If that doesn't help than you could try AEBPlus, you can assign a button to set the device to not turn the screen off at all.
Yes,
i have tried these settings - no change.
Also, there is activity - the usb data transfer, this normally should kepp the HA alive.
A few weeks ago everything was ok, it doesn´t sleep when connected to a pc...
Thorsten
Do You Have Scapps Advanced Config?
Under Power management - USB Charging - Yes keeps device alive, No puts it to sleep.
Thank you,
but Schaps config is installed and already USB charging is set to "yes".
It drives me crazy :-(

Might be a real pain, but maybe you could do a hard reset, as all the other solutions don't seem to work.
The same problem here. I tried everything to prevent my HD from turning off. It looks to me like it doesn't recognize the connection per USB as it should. Because if I change the settings for Battery-Mode e.g. standby after 30 minutes, it works for ... ca.... 30 minutes
Anyone an idea why the hd doesn't recognize the usb connection? A Hard-Reset doesn't seem to change anything regarding this problem.
HEy,
I have exactly the same problem. Have u found out anything yet or does anyone else know what this is about? It happens even if I turn off all the options for auto darken or turn off display in energy options.
Its gonna drive me crazy too, argh
Edit:
Take a look at the last answer of this thread, sorry but it its german. But it fixed the problem in my case!

Hi BanTu,
thanks for this link - it really solved my problem.
Settings - System - power management - disable shut down when connected (even if there are 30 min, in my case).
Thank you very much
Hey,
I am having problems disabling my Wi-Fi. To be honest this isn't really a problem because my Wi-Fi is faster than mobile data transfers. Having said that though, obviously i would like the option to turn it off.
I havn't changed anything today on my phone so no software changes etc. Just on 'Comm Manager' on the Wi-Fi switch the whole line is light grayed out (and therefore i cant do anything)
Tried the standard turn off/turn on, soft reset, holding power button and terminate data connection, yet it is still grayed out and still on...
Any Ideas?
Sorry if there is already a similar post. I had a quick look and search but couldn't find anything to help. Please point in the right direction if there is.

Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connection, Wi-fi. There's a checkbox there for turning on and off. You may find that doing this re-enables the one on the comm manager, otherwise, you're stuck with doing it that way (for some strange reason).
I'd also recommend the Wifi shortcut on the cab thread in the HD2 themes and apps forum. I have that in my quicklinks so I can quickly toggle the wifi on and off whenever I get home or to work or a friend's house etc..
Cheers bud.
Thats turned it off, but yeh as you suspected it doesn't enable me to do it in comm manager. Do you think you could give me a link to that quick link?

Yes mate - it's in my signature - the cabs link. You want the Touch X reset and wifi cab. It creates shortcuts in your start menu, and you can then add them as quicklinks if you want.
This may well be a stupid question, but is the device connected to PC with a USB cable just now?
hicks:
Nope, not currently... It was earlier though... If that is meant to make it so you cant toggle it, maybe it might be stuck like that from earlier... I will try plugging it back in later and see if this sorts it.
Cheers

They weren't there earlier. I decided that you'd be the last person I'd search for those threads myself for
legend.
Oh and yeh seems it was a minor fault... plugged it back into comp and disconnected again, seems to be sorted in comm manager now.
Hi
I have an HTC Desire HD
I have changed a setting somewhere (i remember doing it) which switches off wifi when the screen times out. I did it on purpose at the time thinking it would come on again when the screen was unlocked. Wrong!
The problem is I now can't find or remember the exact setting I changed!
Could be powersaving, wifi, screen lock or any other non-obvious setting!
I have tried everything I can think off. At the moment, everytime the screen goes off, so does wifi. Very annoying
I would really appreciate any help
Mark
I wasn't aware there was an option for this is froyo! Unless you're referring to the WiFi sleep policy? Try menu > advanced when in WiFi settings but I think this only allows you to determine the time out period, not the condition (ie the screen going off)... however, there are apps that will allow you to do this. Are you sure you haven't installed something that's causing this?
Go to wifi and press menu. Its under advanced settings.
Hi
Thanks for your tips. Found it!!
It wasn't in the Wifi, or screenlock settings (I had looked at everything on those!!)
I remembered that had installed the Battery Booster app and then messed with the Battery Teak settings to turn off wifi on screenlock
Actually a handy app, if you set it up properly, which I hadn't!!
Thanks once again for the prompt
Mark
don't forget after change setting hit menu button again to save the change lol
