Anyone know why i am only getting usb1 and not able to get 2?
in my setup menu > connections > usb to pc
i have ActiveSync radio button selected with the tick box for Enable Fater data sync, selected.
i think it's the same with my TyTN except for the "Advance mode" tick box is missing.

i know it's very easy question but i can't find option to disconnect the PDA from activesync except pulling out the USB. any other way?
and if no, doesn't harm the connection in the long run by disconnecting through cable.
my second question is: when i click on top bar trying to connect to the GPRS it tell me to set up new connection from setting,
eventhough i have already seup the GPRS connection but it doesn't show up there!!!
any help is appreciated
thanks
It doesn't harm the connection by pulling out the USB cable (either from the device end or the PC end) but if you want to stop ActiveSync then:
Right click on the icon and select "Connection Settings" or go to the "File" menu and select "Connection Settings".
Untick the "Allow USB Connection..."
You will need to tick this again later once you want to restart ActiveSync over USB.

Hi all,
Can someone explain the process or steps I need to take to install my MDA Vario II as a modem to my laptop. I'd like to be able to use it as a wireless modem, and also use the T-Mobile connection.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Ratzz
It's very easy:
1) On your Vario, go to Start > Programs > Wireless Modem
2) Select Menu > APM Setting
3) Type wap.voicestream.com into the text box. Make sure the checkbox is checked
4) After hitting ok to save the setting, select Menu > Start
This step will change your Varo to work as a modem (pick USB for the connecton type, as it's most convenient)
5) Find the CD that came with your Vario. It should have USB Modem Drivers in a folder. It will be either an instalation file, or just an inf file
6) Install the file if there is a setup file. If not, just continue on.
7) Plug your Vario into yor laptop via USB. Instead of working trough Activesync, your laptop will find the Vario as a new modem device. If it asks for a driver, point it to the flder on the CD.
Now that your Vario is configured to work as a USB modem, on to setting up a connection
8) Go to Network Properties (Usually Start > Right-click on My Network Places > Properties
9) Create a new connection (selection in the left bar)
10) Next > Next > set up my connection manually > Next > T-Mobile GPRS for connection name > *99# for the number to dial out, and next till you're finished. No need for username or password. Make sure you select your HTC Modem as the device used to connect.
That's it. Open the onnection (double-click or enter or whatever), make sure it's dialing *99#, with no login or password, and hit connect.
If it gives you problems, do the following:
Sometimes the Vario has issues connecting with the wireless modem while or shortly after connecting to the web on it's own (for it's own use). Unplug the device from the USB cable, and hit Menu > Stop. Go to the Comm Manager (button under the off button), and cycle the cell phone portion of the device off and on (top left button). Just disconnecting the GPRS connection by itself doesn't always do it. Right after you turn the cell back on, hit OK to get back to the wireless modem application, and once the icon at the top starts to show that it's trying to aquire a signal (... under the antenna) hit Menu > Start, and plug it into the USB. Hitting start before it detects a GPRS signal will prevent it from tring to automatically connect, and should let it work without a problem.
Thanks rassah
I kept searching the forums until I found your post.
It was very helpful.
Thanks again
Hi to all, I've a problem with my HD: when I link the device with usb cable on blackstone appears the popup that ask me what kind of connection I want..
but whatever choice I make the connection type remains as the one set in settings > connections > Usb to PC...Is possible to make this popup working?
in settings/connections/USB to PC, check "Ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC"...
Does anyone know why in Windows 7 it will not recognize my phone through usb, and cannot send files to it through bluetooth. but the phone can send to the pc.
Any suggestions?
Much appreciated

For the ActiveSync problem :
[IN PC]Start WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center)
Move your mouse to "Mobile Device Settings"
Click "Connection Settings"
Check "Allow USB connections"
Check "Allow automatic device authentication"
Check "Allow data connection on device when connected to PC.
OK
[IN HERMES]
Try enabling or disabling "Advanced network functionality"(Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC), don't forget to tap OK, to apply the new setting.
NOTE : Do that when the Hermes NOT connected to the PC!
For bluetooth problem :
Make sure your PC is in "discoverable mode"
I hope I can help you, thanks..

Patrick: I wonder how these options could have become disabled on a clean WMDC install?
thc2010: You say your phone is not being recognized over USB. Have you installed WMDC manually?
BTW Bluetooth connectivity has nothing to do with WMDC, inability to send files from PC to phone is most likely related to Bluetooth security settings (try to enable phone discovery via Bluetooth - but make sure to disable it when you're done with transferring files!)
Anytime I connect to my home (or work laptop) via USB, the internet no longer works. At work, I can understand this because of the proxy server, etc. Is there any way to always connect via my 3G connection and when connected via USB not to change the connection from 3G?
It's weird cos i have the same problem, but not all the time. When I flash my Miri rom's some seem to work over 3G when connect via USB, my latest one doesn't.
Now i dont sync my device to the PC anyway, so i use the power adapter and bluetooth, thus not having the issue. although I have never bothered to try and figure it out.
to force the data connection, try this
settings menu all settings connections connections - advanced tab, select network, and set the top drop down to the name of your data connection.
(if it already is, then.... ummm I dunno)
sorry but this did not work.
In activesync/WMDC, go to connection settings, and check "allow internet connections while connected" or something like this.
By default it cuts the other connections as the phone will get the net through activesync when it's connected.

this also did not work
On your phone:
Start > Tools > QuickGPS
Menu > Options
Turn off '"Download QuickGPS when connected to PC via ActiveSync".

this worked for me at home, but did not work for me at work (perhaps having something to do with the work proxy?) any ideas...?
