Few questions - Touch HD General

Hello, maybe these questions was answered before, but i did not find any answer using search, sorry.
1. I'd like to know if there is a way to set up an mp3 as an wake up alarm? If yes how? Where do i have to put my mp3?
2. I added some mp3 in my documents/music folder. But when i open media player the text appears 'Media search in progress...' and it stays so and never finds any. What's wrong?

I use Burr Oak's pTravelAlarm.
It reads mp3 files, operates far better than the standard alarm feature and does exactly what you are looking for.

I'm not totally sure because I can only write for my hermes. Still waiting for the HD.
1. It seems WM doesn's support that. But there's a free programm called GAlarm which is said to work on the hd. It also offers a lot of features you might like.
2. I hoped it's only with windows MP not with the one from HTC. That's also a problem with WM when this files are on your Storage card. You have to copy all your files to the PC. Format the card and re copy the files.. voila it should work. If your Files are not on the storage card I cannot help you sry.

Well the micro sd card was formatted, because it's new, i just put it into the phone and copied only that folder. (i made a folder called music with mp3 inside). well will try to format again!

media player won't recognise storage card

Hi
I have just bought a san disk 2gb mini sd card for my mini s and after a few teething problems I can put items onto it.
I thought brilliant so i loaded on 300 of my fav songs. For some reason windows media player when updating the library notices the files although it doesn't add them to the library so I can't play a list of songs I can play one and then what ever is in the library.
The library only adds from "my deivce" and not from the storage card.
Can someone help me as I really like my music and can't listen to it properly because of a fault.
If not can anyone suggest a music player that works on the mini s/wizard.
Yes people are having a problem with 2gb cards on the wizard - there seems to be a bug.
Some people find it works ok if over half full - is yours?
Second people reporting success after reformatting the card on the device (backup everything on the card before you do this) use storage tools or my fav sktools
Hope it works - i love my music too!
Microsft needs to pay for all the high blood pressure that Windows Mobile devices cause.
1)Don't format your 2GB card to FAT32. Use FAT. It appears the PPC is still living in the 80's. If you use FAT32 it might appear to work fine but everynow and then you'll get currupted files.
2) Get Windows Media Player 11. You can then happily disable the aweful media sync feature in activestink 4.x. WMP11 will recognize your card as long as your PPC is synced.
3) I don't have this problem in WMP11 but in WMP10 if your WMP in your PPC is open, it might not sync your new playlist even though it appears to be doing so.
It appears Bill and the boys at MS are taking mobile media seriously even though they are a decade late. But I'm optimistic
Does not really solve your problem as such, but Media Player is a real dog and a waste of time IMO. Get TCPMP for video (the best and free) and a good music player like Mort, GSplayer or Pocket Player.
I'm having the same problem. I'm using WMP11 and it does not see my 2 gig SD card. I used this set up before with WMP10 and it would always see my SDcard. Ant help on this would be great. It I just plug my sdcard directly into the computer then WMP11 sees it.
Thanks
Garth
Anyone success with 2G Card in FAT32 sync with MediaPlayer 11?
Same Problem
I have a 1GB miniSD card in my Cingular 8525, and windows mobile Media player fails to load any of the songs that are on the storage card into the media library. I CAN play any of the songs one at a time. It's just that the library won't load or recognize the files.
I've tried everything. I've selected "update libary" , I've sync with activesynk...
I don't think this is a size issue. I've tried a few files, I've tried many files.
I don't think this is a storage size issue, as you guys are having the problem with 2GB SD cards, and I'm having the problem with 1GB miniSD cards.
I think this is probably a Media player bug. Do any of the other media players support a library like function?
i have a 512mb card and i don't have WMP11 working either. i am starting to think that it is a activesyc 4.5 beta problem but now sure. also i noticed that my new contacts are not in outlook either. it says it has synced them but when i open outlook on my pc they are not there. oddly enough back to music i can sync music through yahoo music engine perfectly. it shows my storage card and my device.
I have the same problem. I'm using a Cingular 8525 with a 2GB micro sd card, WMM, and WM11. This worked for me: create a playlist in WM11 and sync to 8525. Then, using WMM, use the open file command under menu to find the file you created (mine is located in: file system/storage card/playlist) and open it as a playlist.
It didn't solve the real problem, but at least you can play more than one song at a time.
I hope this helps .
P.S.
I see little red asterisk on the storage card folders in WMM, what do they mean?

okay this is what I have tried with no success in both the test 3.3 rom and the cingular 3.3 rom.
i have deleted all those folders /music /msmdata /wdrm.
I have even formated(slow and fast) the SD card from sk tools, and I have gone into the windows registry(pc) and deleted all sync devices.
no matter what I do I cannot see my storage card in wmp11 in windows vista. on either my hermes or my wizard.
if anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it.
I'm the same, can't find my storage card anywhere! Help!
I had the same problem with my 2 gig corsair... What i did for mine to work for me is I deleted everything on the card than instead of just puting files on the card i made folders(my music, my videos, programs)... Sounds crazy but i haven't had problems ever since.

OMG! Thank you so very much Leblan. This worked for me too. I had to delete my music folder, so I lost all my sync music. But who cares, now wmp is reading my storage card again!
thank you
I have an 8525 that did the same thing. Here is what worked for me.
Remove the Micro-SD card. Open Media player and click on menu. Then click on Library. Click on menu again and select the "update Library". Let it run and find the updates. After it completes close Media Player and insert the SD card in the slot. Now open Media player again and click on Menu. Click on Library, click on menu again, click on "Update Library" and let it run. It should see the card files and add them to the library. After it completes open the menu again open the library and look for the Storage card. It should now show up with all of your songs. (mine has 346 songs and it found them all).
how to fix this problem.
On the storage card, delete the following file Storage Card\MSMETADATA\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb You may have to tap & hold in the File Manager window on a blank area and choose "Show All Files" in order to see this folder. If this XMEMedialibrary.mlb isnt in that folder, just delete the whole folder, that worked for me. Also delete the file: Mobile Device\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\XMEMediaLibrary.mlb

As far as I'm aware your ringtone wether mp3 or wav needs to be on the internal memory and not the storage card.
Copy ringtones to windows/rings
But these shouldn't take up much space on your phone anyhow, plus you couild always crop the length of each tune to minimize the size
create a folder on your SD card called My Documents. Your HD should find all music placed in this folder when you search for ringtones.

My apologies. Wasn't aware of this as I had tried doing this before but put all my ringtones into a folder within My Documents and phone didn't pick them up.
Great to know this, cheers bro
On my storage card my ringtones are in a My Ringtones folder inside My Documents and work fine.

Yeah I have this now, but originally I had this folder called My Rings
Didn't initially realise you had to be precise with the naming. Thought phone would have the ability to pick this up
All ok now though
Glad it worked.
Use file explorer on pda to find the tune (mp3) you want to use. Press and hold with stylus on the file (mp3), box pops up giving you option to set as ring tone. Easy peesy

Noooooo - Audiomanager crashes

Just got my lovely HD2! Wunderbra!
However, I just put my 16GB card in with a music folder with about 12GB's of music, and periodically when listening to music I get a...
"We're sorry....
A problem has occurred with AudioManager_eng.exe"
And it closes
REALLY annoying, can anyone shed some light onto why this may be happening? Thanks

Well, I think I can, it's called - here it comes - a bug.
You may feel better knowing you are not the only one. I haven't yet reported it to HTC, so I think we all should and give them an incentive to put their teeth in it and fix this, because it really is VERY annoying.
For now, I'm reverting back to Pocketmusic, but I really want the AudioManager to work - it'll work with my car stereo over A2DP and it'll work with the buttons on the headset (for which I will replace the earpieces to decent ones...)
Oops, they did it again.
I have this problem with my HD all of a sudden, and have been searching quite a lot for a solution. What seems to work for people is reformatting the card. At least on HD I tried to install a different card with the same files and it worked.
Thanks! Thing is, I'm sure it's to do with the amount of music. I wanted to get a 32Gb SDHC card when they are available but I'm not sure it could handle it.
I do have a plan now though, since you mentioned the format thing. I formatted the card in windows. The HD 2 has a card formatting util, maybe it's related?? I'll try and I'll let you know. Also maybe the sub-folders go to deep ie /card/music/muse/resistance
Maybe if I make them shallower? I dunno...
So I'll try a few things and report back!
Re amount of music - at least it's not the case with HD. I moved everything but one album (and later just one song) to another card, and it doesn't solve the problem on the first one. All the files on the first card seem to be fine, I can read, write, copy everything, all other applications and players work except the Manila Audiomanager. Installing that other card with all the music (with all the subfolders, by the way) works fine. Go figure...
If reformatting doesn't work, the next thing I'd suggest that you try is removing album art and then reindexing your music (you'll find instructions about how to do it here on xda).
Oh, and one more thing I just recalled. Go to your library and see if all the music was indexed. If not, look at the last album (in alphabetic order) that was added. Try to delete it from the card and reindex.
mine crashes constant, i rarely get more then 90 seconds
Well it looks like it indexed everything....
I tried formatting the card using the HTC tool, recopying the data back to the card and it still crashed
When you say about the album art...
Do I remove folder.jpg from the folder that each album contains, or are you referring to removing all the embedded thumbnails in each of the mp3's?

I don't remember what it said, but I'd say go with the easier option first.
I used these steps to fix my library on my 16 GB card.
- format SD from HD2
- sync albums from WMPlayer by ActiveSync for correct folderstructure
- ran MP3val on Music folder on SD, fixed errors
http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/
Disable Microsoft error reporting and possibly it will just continue playing even if the error occurs. It's worth a try and also disabling error reporting solves lots of other issues.

Go to the device: Application data \ HTC \ Audiomanager_Eng folder, you will find a file there called "AudioManager_Eng.vol". Simply rename this file (add .old to it or something), and soft-reset your device. It will start indexing all over again, and you can now delete the renamed file.
I solved my crashes by doing the following:
- checked all the file-tags, updated them and changed the old v1 into v2.3 ones using mp3tag. There was one file with a messed up tag, deleted that.
- reindexed the music (see above).
It's been running smoothly a few hours now, in the car (A2DP) as well as on the headset or the device itself, no crashes yet. Seems the AudioManager will hang on indexing broken tags, so sort your tags ppl.
You are a clever bunch. I actually returned my HD2 because I decided I didn't want to be with vodaphone lol. I've gone back to o2 and the new one arrives tomorrow. I'll try all of your suggestions and I'll let you know how it goes!
Cheers Jon

Would it work via WMP if it was synced via USB??

Well that seems to have worked just syncing with WMP. It does lose some of the album art which is really annoying. So I've had to manually transfer some of the folder.jpg's into the relevant directories. Oh well no matter it works Thanks you guys!!
I think I found the problem; when you start up the Music player (not WMP) it automatically starts updating your library using Gracenote, and tries to play your selected music which causes the failure. I stopped the music and let the files began the update....and everything is now working.

Music app not syncing/recognizing artist names

I've tried syncr, I've tried double twist and I've tried dragging and dropping but in all cases, the phone is not recognizing the artist names of many songs. It labels them as unknown. This is driving me nuts.
When I take the SD card out and place it in my droid X, all the songs that went previously unrecognized are now recognized.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

Are they m4a files? There is another thread where people have found that m4a files aren't working properly. They play just fine, but the artist and some other info isn't recognized properly for some reason.

Not sure if that is right. I've tried it on the phone's 16gb memory, and on my external microSD card - neither works. When I add them to Kies on my desktop they are also missing the some of the info in the fields shown in the 'library'. It's all very confusing - really hope it can get sorted out soon as it's the one thing that's annoying the hell out of me.

Didn't seem to make any difference. To be clear, I didn't have a 'Music' folder in the root of the internal phone memory, so I created one and put my music in sub-directories. Is that what you meant?
Do you use MP3 files? Then this could be an issue with the ID3 Tag. You can solve it in two ways:
1) only using ID3 V1 Tags
2) using ID3 V2.3 Tags with ISO-8859-1 Charakter Set. Android seems to have problems with UTF-8/16 and ID3 V2.4

It's my m4a files that I think I (and others) have the problem with.
Is there any program that you know of to change the tags of m4a files as a batch? Really don't want to have to do it individually!
I use usually a Prog called "MP3Tag". Unfortunately I do not know actually if a) it is available in English language (I'm German)
b) it also works with m4a files.
Usage is quiet simple: Just open your Music folder on your PC with the program, edit the settings to fit with what I've written above, apply the settings, select all files, copy and paste the tags, save the files - finished.
Cheers
Zap
Edit: I've checked it: The Prog is available in English and it supports m4a. Just look at the website: www.mp3tag.de
The test files I'm working with are files purchased from the iTunes music store. I certainly don't want to rewrite the ID tags for any files, or convert the files from one format to another. I think this would classify as a bug that Samsung should fix, in my opinion.
I have a workaround, namely browsing folders via Poweramp. It's certainly not ideal, but will get me by for the time being.
What is the proper method of inquiring with Samsung about this? Call Samsung via the Support number on their pages? Is their phone support any good?
Since I bought this UK model and shipped it to Canada, would I need to call Samsung UK? (Samsung Canada doesn't list the GT-I9100 as a supported model on their site)
I can understand this, maybe you crash more than repair it. Yes, a different Music app with its own - well, let's call it "engine" - could also solve the problem. This could be worth a try.
On the other hand there are also users who do not want to have that much apps and want to use the stuff which is coming with the little green bot originally - they definetely will suffer from that issue, because it's Android - dependent and not Manufacturer - dependent. So I think you will not reach anything by talking to Samsung.
Just have a look here. Lots of defects regarding The bot and MP3. Just search "yours" (the one that fits best) ;-). Hopefully the big G will fix them some time.
Cheers

This drives me nuts too.
They display properly in double twist, but not in the stock player. I like double twist to sync wirelessly, but like stock as a player.
Found out the AAC music files are the ones that are not getting tagged properly. I'm thinking of converting them to MP3 which will be a long process.
Is their an easier way to tag the songs so that they get recognized?
did anyone further forward with this? I've got m4a files. I transcoded all of them to mp3 and still the artist showed as unknown.
Is it an ID tag version issue as the earlier poster said?

Whats the point in having the external card?? Surly media files is exactly the sort of thing you would want to put on an external SD.
I have my music files on my external sdcard. I synced with iTunemywalkman, the key is to code them (Playlists tab) NOT in UTF-8 but Western European (ISO Latin-1).
I created a Samsung/music/ folder on my external sdcard and the built-in player as well as Songbird player are working fine.
Might be worth trying mediafix by gorgonloop
Its on the market, it's free and it worked for me (Itunes .mpa files not showing artist and using folder name as album name, etc.)
Try MediaFix from the market. It fix almost 90% of the m4a issues(unknown artiste).

Where do I put music & video files?

Sorry but a really noob question ..........
Where do I put music and video's so that the default app's find them?
I thought the SD card was 'external_SD' so that's where I put the music folders. But then, when I try to navigate to that on the phone, there's nothing in there. And also, when I open the music app' it doesn't show anything that I've added!!
So can you tell me where you put audio and video files please.
Sorry, I really show know this but it's not something I've done on any of my phones before!
Thanks in advance for you help.
SDCard : Internal Storage ,the 16Gb build in
External SD : The micro SD (T-Flash) you insert into phone
And inside Windows Explorer ,it should be two drives ,say ,Drive E and Drive F ,one is internal ,one is external
Hope this help
I think memory your looking at is the built in memory. I put some video files in the folder marked media and it found them ok. If you want to find the external memory you need to go to settings, wireless and network then usb utilities to connect tovpc. Thenn i just put all my music on there. Again it found them ok.

Right, I've done the music files. I've dumped them in the 'Music' folder in the above screenshot and it appears to have found them. The only annoying thing is that it's sorted each song alphabetically and not by track number!
Now I just need to work out where to put videos.
I also still can't see, from my screenshot of the folder structure above, where my SD card is. If it is that 'external_SD' then why aren't files showing when I explore it on the phone?
And does the Note not play .mov files? I've transferred some across but when trying to open them it states, "No applications can perform this action".
