PC Will not recognise phone - P3600 General

Ok, so after moving house i have lost the data cable that came with my phone. However i have got another cable that fits, however it does not recognise it on the pc, the phone takes power from the cable however active sync nor device manager seems to find the phone, is this because it isnt the proper cable or have i got a bigger problem?
Nevermind, I found a new cable and it works, now im running a nice new rom
Could you someone please close this thread now?

Not the usual PC connection issue

Hi!
Ive got a big problem cause my Galaxy S just stopped being recognized by any PC. I dont know whats wrong, it just treats USB cable like it was a charger, PC doesnt detect anything neither does the phone. Its very strange since everything worked perfect for the last couple of weeks. I tried to connect it to a notebook i used to flash the phone a week ago and it has been turned off ever since so it cant be any driver related issue. Im afraid my micro-USB port is damaged but i have a custom firmware in it and since i cant reflash it the warranty isnt vaild ehh...
Any ideas?
THX
silly question...
Do you mount the phone via the status bar after you plug it in?
Thats the point - PC doesnt detect the phone AT ALL theres not even a sound that an USB device has been plugged in. The same thing in the phone it just starts charing it doesnt seem to know that its connnected to PC.
sounds like your PC mobo got the USB port fried.
try turning off the PC, unplug the power cord, wait for the energy to drain out, then turning it back on
my Windows 7 x64 some time does that, but it's not a hardware error
on yours it could either be a hardware dead, or the Windows gone Bezerk as usual
I tried different USB devices - other phones, pendrives and a printer and everything works fine except for the Galaxy S. The Samsungs USB cable also works fine with other phones..
I wrote to Samsung and they said to send them the device because its most probably damaged :\ Will they check the firmware version?
btw. as I said in the first post the phone doesnt work on my notebook as well
I wouldnt care so much about this because I can send files using ftp but I cant change the firmware without an USB port working (or am I wrong?)
I sometimes also have this problem. For me rebooting the phone and if it then doesn't work again using another USB port at my PC solves the problem.
Yesterday when the problem occurred for the first time I removed SIM and microSD cards and PC detected a device but it was recognized as 'unknown malfunctioning USB device' but no luck ever since.
Just to let you know my Samsung just fixed itself 0_o Might have something to do with the Windows reinstallation on my PC but it suddely works on my notebook as well. Im really confused now...

Phone is not recognized when in download mode - please help!

After failing again and again and again, reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling KIES (which simply won't work on my machine), removing the battery etc. etc. etc. I just don't know what there is left to do...
When in Win7, the phone is recognized, although Windows tells me that it's not connected to a USB2 hub. In download mode it says connection failed. What else am I supposed to do?
The phone is not branded or anything, applying stuff though update.zip's was never an issue.
So please somebody help me - I'm stuck with JF3
simple, switch to another computer
unless you can find and easy way to make windows forget the USB bugs
you need to also unplug the PC and wait for the PC to power drain, reconnect the PC power cord, and turn the PC back on.
after it goes back to windows try hooking up the phone again, if you get the message about not running in USB2 mode, then it failed
retry after resetting BIOS settings, installing USB2 drivers, etc.

I had a similar problem...
I had a USB 1.1 Port on my Thinkpad T22 and the drivers didnt like it
Use a different computer/USB port
...btw I still like JF3
Now you will probably feel the urge to smack my head against the wall when you read what I'm about to tell you... I don't blame ya... The cause of the "problem" was that I wasn't using the original Samsung USB cable that came with the phone. I just couldn't find it so I decided to use an aftermarket cable which I had lying around. Big mistake... I finally found the USB cord and that fixed everything for me. Beware of aftermarket accessories as the phone will punish you for using them!
that cable might have been a very poor after market version then
i do use a couple of after market USB to micro USB cable with the phone and it works fine
there are bad aftermarket products
and there are quality aftermarket products
I remember having a few mini USB cable with my old G1, and had similar problem. With one cable it was recognising, with the other one didnt.
Don't know what difference they have, but it's indeed wierd!
I was using a nokia usb cable to flash my samsung

Computer not detecting phone through USB at all!

Argh, I am pulling my hair out trying to solve this! When I connect my phone through USB to my computer my phone detects the connection but my computer doesn't respond at all! I bought the phone used and it is already rooted but is using a pretty old rom and I wanted to upgrade it. It is currently running "Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #4".
Things I have tried:
Using different USB settings on the phone (Kies, mass storage, ask on connection)
USB debugging mode
Different USB cables
Different computers
Cleaning the micro usb port on the phone
Formatting SD card
wide data/factory reset
Nothing seems to accomplish anything, it still reacts in the same way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The ROM shouldn't count.
First of all, has it ever worked? I just presume you're running on win7: did you installed the drivers as specified in several different tutorials on this forum?
What kind of connection are you trying to establish? tether, usb, kies, other? have you tried any combination possible?
I just got the phone a couple days ago, I have not managed to get it to be detected by anything yet. I have tried it on a couple Win 7 boxes and also a Vista laptop. I am currently downloading Ubuntu just to rule out the OS factor. I have just been using Kies to install drivers although after reading your post I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
I'll try that and post results if that is what you mean? I have been trying to establish basically any connection at all for the ultimate goal of getting Odin to actually detect the phone so I can flash it with ClockworkMod Recovery and then an ICS rom. The phone detects the USB cable fine and starts charging and puts the phone into whatever mode I want (kies, mass storage, etc.) but the computer has yet to give any indication that anything is connected to it.
Try with the drivers, but be also sure to enable usb debugging to be able to select a different usb sharing when inserting the cable in case you haven't already.
The drivers installation didn't make any difference and I've tried USB debugging and all 3 connection modes (Kies, mass storage and media player), none of which exhibit any response from the PC.
Edit: Posting from Ubuntu now, same exact thing. Phone detects USB connection, and it doesn't matter which of the connection options I choose as the PC doesn't give any indication that anything has been connected to it.
That's really weird. Does Odin3 (which presumably works at a lower level) sees anything if you put the phone in download mode? ) this way you should be probably able to upgrade somehow.

No unfortunately there is no response from the computer or Odin3 when the phone is in download mode and connected through USB.
that's odd and maybe that's not good at all.
I'm starting to think the problem could be hardware related, especially in a situation where odin can't see the phone in download mode (i.e. no software layer is interfering).
Is there any glaring damage/scratch/missing parts on the usb port?
Sincerely, if I could return it I would try that at this point.
Unless someone else has got anything else to try.
I'll take a good look at it under a scope when I go to work on Monday I guess. Thanks for your input, I'll try to update if I find out anything else!
So I took a look at the port under a scope today and discovered that one of the pins (the middle one) in the micro usb port on the phone seems to be completely gone! Not sure what each pin does but I'm assuming that one is probably used to communicate to whatever the phone is connected to...
Luckily I have access to a parts phone that I can take apart for a replacement port so probably tomorrow I will attempt surgery on the phone! Will report back with further progress after I have done so.
Well I'm happy to report that that was definitely the problem! I replaced the micro USB port on the phone today during my lunch break, put the phone back together and plugged it into a PC here. It immediately detected the phone so I'm pretty happy! Guess I'll be trying out some ICS roms tonight when I get home!
that's great, glad you managed you fix this yourself, well done and enjoy your SGS

Cant connect samsung S1 to PC

Hi,
I'm having a real though time trying to connect my galaxy s1 to a pc. Have tried everything, like kies, direct connection, reseted the device, and no joy.
When I plug the cable it makes that sound as it is connecting but it doesn't show in the PC anywhere, nor even in Device manager.
It can get pwr from the usb cable when is connected; already tried with another cable and same thing.
My final goal is to unlock it.
thanks for any help
have you tried put yoy're phone in depurating mode?
I guess yo mean Debugging mode, as I couldn't found Depurating anywhere. Have selected it and the same effect
HI
I had the same problem after getting nowhere with it, for some reason and I don"t know why, I put it in download mode and then connected it to odin and my PC found it I then disconected it and its been fine eversince.

#Samsung Kies always makes problems on Windows x64 !
##I would recommend, if you got 32-Bit Computer, to use that ;-)
#If you Want just flash over Odin, then is this driver package enough

#The Package is also enough for If you want just to connect to mass Storage (Phone's SD Card)
Don't Forget to Thanks, if it was useful for you!

Hi there.
By direct connection you mean the USB Mass Storage mode, right?
It might be some weird, random problem with the samsung system drivers. I used to have such problems about two years ago, back in the days of Froyo. Have you tried re-installing them? There was a link to proper drivers file in one ICS installation tutorial, and those drivers can be downloaded here. If you go about trying this method, lemme know if it worked.
Cheers.
PS: Unlike diklooc there suggested, do not never EVER go back to x86 OS. That's the worst advice. Kapisch?
Did you check your usb port in System ?
Sometimes it stuck with another lastest device
Hi,
have tried everything, and finally only in a WinXP32 could be abble to get the error shown on the file atached.
But nothing (warnings) come up in Device Manager
Unninstalled everything (kies) and tried to install only the driver and nothing happens.
Should I try to mount it on a linux?
or is it dead?
thanks
i have this problem too
wat chan I do???
my sgs can not connect to my PC
This may help...
Hi there - I don't have the same phone as you, but I did encounter the exact same problem. I've been searching around and it looks like the most common fix was to simply replace the cable. I don't know what kind of cable you have, but my phone (a Samsung Focus i917) uses a mini-usb connector. I found that my Amazon Kindle used the same connector.
When I was using the Samsung cable, I'd get intermittent connects and charge power. The OS would report unknown device. When I switched computer's = same result. I switched to my Kindle cable and the computer instantly recognized the device and installed the drivers. After 12 hours of troubleshooting, factory resetting my phone (blah - lost everything) it turned out to be the cable. I know that this isn't an easy troubleshooting step for most people, because who has an extra cable? I just got lucky that my Kindle uses the same connector. I'm now suspecting (due to the prevalence of this connectivity problem coming from people with Samsung phones - there are a LOT of reported issues) that there is probably a Samsung cable problem in general.
Good luck with your phone.
try
try select mass strong ...

Nasdriver, I currently have a similar problem but mine is related with Samsung Kies as I can't get either my older SGS1 or my newer Samsung Nexus to get recognized by Kies. I also suspected the cable thing and even read it could be a USB port issue but neither of them was my problem (I have 3 cables and 8 ports on 2 computers that result in the same thing). I can connect other devices with the same cables and they work, so I suspect my problem is focused around the Samsung device drivers.
My advice is if you can go in a systematic manner, first focus on the cable (easiest to replace), if you get the same results with a new cable, then focus on the USB physical port, clean it with some Isopropyl alcohol, if the port works for other devices (camera, other phones, etc..) on the same cable but not with the SGS, then try reinstalling the samsung device drivers.
Oh, and if you want to unlock your phone, the EASY way is to download the Galaxy S Unlock application from the Android market (no affiliation) it's free (but the developer does accept donations) and it WORKS. I won't bore you with my 3 week journey trying to unlock my Bell SGS phone here in Canada, had I found this app first I would have done it in less then 2 min saved myself a LOT of frustration.
Good luck

Phone keeps auto disconnecting and connecting on PC via USB

I've tried this on a hub and a USB port on the PC itself. The phone doesn't even recognize being plugged in on a USB port.
On the PC itself though, it connects and I can browse the files within for a few seconds and my phone then disconnects itself and connects back right after. And everytime it connects, there's a vibration so it's pretty much non stop vibrations. This is extremely annoying. I can't transfer any files over. Currently using Wireless Storage. Cr*p speeds but at least it gets transferred. Any idea what might be the problem? On a D802, rooted and with TWRP installed.
Mine will do this when charging in the car via USB. If playing anything out gets paused. Sux

Bump.
Huh i thought i was the only one. My G2 does this too. My PC is pretty old and it was on Win 7 and MTP didn't work. So i formatted my 4yo Win 7 to Win 8.1 and now MTP works. It's definitely much faster than Wireless Storage/OSP/3rd party app but what's the point if it keeps disconnecting.
Another thing is, it does happen to my thumbdrive as well. Just that with the G2 it's much worse until i can't transfer any files at all. So the super slow wireless is the only option.
Any solution? Or do i need to upgrade my PC lol.
Try changing the port. Maybe the usb cord is loose or the port itself. This happened to my S2 after dropping it. Maybe the motherboard was moved inside i dunno and after that it keeps connecting and disconnecting when i plug it,
I think you all suffer from too less power throughput from charger/cable/port.
It's like the same when you do not use the supplied charger but another brand your phone will not fast charge.
I was thinking the same too because it doesn't happen when i plugged the phone on another PC.
So the solution is, unplug unnecessary devices and it shouldn't disconnect anymore. If it still happens, try not doing anything on the pc while data is transferring. At least it works for me.
I am also rooted and the problem only seems to happen when the screen turns off and then locks. If I unlock, it comes back.
same problem
I've used my I9300 on stok ROM, no problem, i've flashed ArchiDroid V2.3.4, and the problems apeard. conecting the phone to pc via usb, it connect's and deconnect's, i'm not able to copy anything to/from phone. I guessed it was a problem with the ROM, so i've flashed Resurrection Remix® 4.4.2 KitKat , but the same problem....don't know what's the problem...a little help pleeeeeaseee
PS: changed the usb cable(cord), the usb port, uninstall the drivers and reinstall them...
(off topic...who copied who on ROM...archidroid<->kitkat)
C'mon....i like archidroid...but i need the usb connection 2 PC, i can't live without it
Problem fixed.
I had exactly the same problem as this, I tried different USB slots (even USB 3.0), I tried resetting the phone several times but still it didn't work.
But after changing the charger back to my original iPhone one, it worked perfectly! Probably isn't that wise buying cheap chargers online tbh http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
