Buying from Mobiles.co.uk - Touch HD General

I think I'm fairly set to take the plunge and ditch T-Mobile to upgrade myself to the Touch HD.
I see on mobiles.co.uk that you can get the Touch HD for free on the O2 600 package (600 mins Any Network Anytime + Unlimited Texts) at £35 per month. The site makes no mention of data however. O2 have a bolt-on that is roughly the same as the WnW I'm currently using but the mobiles.co.uk site doesn't seem to let you add bolt-ons.
Does anyone have any experience of ordering the through mobiles.co.uk? If I was to to get the O2 600 package direct from O2 I would be entitled to one free bolt-on. Does anyone know if I can take the deal from mobiles.co.uk then call O2 and get the data bolt-on added for free?

I asked mobiles.co.uk they said no , perhaps 02 may give you it after !

Mobile.co.uk have set it so that the complimentary bolt-on for 600min+ tariffs is the unlimited texts one (The clue for this is that the 35 a month tariff should come with 500 texts, but mobiles.co.uk lists unlimited texts), so if you wanted the unlimited data you would have to call O2 after you get the phone and ask to switch the bolt-on from the texts one to the data one.
As far as I'm aware they should allow you to do this... however it might not kick in until the following month...

**EDIT**
Just seen the above post so ignore mine as it says the exact same thing
********
Mobiles.co.uk has a set deal and thats only with text, however you can add a bolt on = Data,
You can also cancel a bolt on with one months notice.
I'm adding data and cancelling the text from the next month.
Hope that helps.

Wow - you might think you were saying the same thing, but the way you put it makes me think I could get the deal I really want with mobiles.co.uk:
Touch HD for free; O2 600 for £35 per month with unlimited texts.
Immediately cancel the unlimited texts bolt-on and replace it with unlimited web.
That brings the total through-contract costs to £542, which is £300 less than the cost of the device plus a SIM-only contract.
I've just tried calling their sales line and the office is now closed. I'll try them on Monday.
Thanks for the tip, zoro25

Well I just asked the same thing in CW store at Westfield today. He said you can't change the text to data at any point. You are stuck with unlimited texts for the entire 18 months. To get data you need to pay an additional £7.50.
I don't know if he is telling the truth but this is what he told me.

I think he was mistaken
I've just re-read the Terms and conditions page for Bolt ons.
Monthly customers =
Customers who have an existing “for life” promotion can change to a Promotional Bolt On and all customers with a Promotional Bolt On may change their choice every 90 days.
So that looks like one change every 90 days (not sure how this will work for the start of contract meaning will we have to wait 90days? or change in first month and then not be eligible again for 90 days)
Also terms state
You must provide one month’s notice to O2 if you wish to cancel your Paid for Bolt On by calling the customer care number on your monthly bill.

Thanks for the tip. I will now definitely being calling T-Mobile tomorrow to request my PAC code and place my order with Mobiles.co.uk.
I will probably add on the bolt-on for data as unlimited text messages will be useful as well so I should be sitting pretty with:
An HTC Touch HD (for free!)
600 Any network, any time minutes
Unlimited text messaging
200 MB data (I reckon this should be sufficient for my needs; I tend to just do quick checking of news on poll for email every hour)
£42.50 per month

Dom you get 5 months half price line rental.
Also go to http://www.quidco.com/mobiles-co-uk/ and you get £40 cashaback too. I have used quidco for ages and get money back fron online retailers.
So with your deal, minus £87.50 (5 month line rental discount), minus £40 cashback, you end up paying £35 a month.

I placed an order for the Touch HD on mobiles.co.uk on Friday morning, only to get an email in the evening from them saying that it will be delayed. The website says their release date for the HD is now 17 November!
Thanks for that offer code (touchhdemail), I might try and wangle that onto my order. I also intend to switch the unlim texts for unlim data bolt-on.

I ordered with them aswell. Let's hope they dont change the date again next Monday.

From what I recall, CPW (and by extension, probably mobiles.co.uk), provide a managed service for their o2 contracts. So you don't get to use o2 customer service (i.e. call 150), you use a special team at CPW (a blasted 0845/0870 number if memory serves). I would advise anyone looking to get a contract with them, to speak to them directly and ensure you can do all the things you would do if you were with o2 direct (i.e. changing a default bolt-on to another).

I believe that CPW does indeed do a managed service, so issues with the contract side of things is done via them rather than O2 directly. This does, however, mean that they are simply a middle-man and are not offering anything different that O2 direct, they are just relaying the service.
The upshot of this is they should mirror the exact same offers as O2, and if they claim to not offer these, then they're A) wrong, B) Lazy and just don't want to have to call O2 and set up what the customer asked them for.
In both cases, O2, the network, offer the service you want (ie unlimited data in place of unlimited texts) so you should be able to get this service.
I suggest, and will be doing so myself, call them up with O2's terms and conditions in from of me (the bit Zoro25 quoted) and recite it word for word to them. Mobiles.co.uk actually links to the O2 terms and conditions as part of the ordering process so they should - and must - adhere to them. If they still claim they cannot do this for whatever reason, state that it's in the terms and conditions, then state that a mobile contract is a two way thing, and they they can breach the contract just as much as you, the customer, can (the contract says that you will pay them, and that they must provide the service) and then demand to speak to a supervisor.
Of course, the main thing to look out for is your first bill. If the bill header is from Mobile.co.uk or Carphone Warehouse, then you must go through them for this stuff. If the bill header is O2 then you just go direct through them!

I also understand the voicemail is free to use with o2 but according to mobiles.co.uk tarif guide, you are charged everytime you check your voicemail. Is this correct or am I wrong?

Best Internet Price Plan

Ive been searching a few of the UK network websites for internet or data price plans such as o2, vodafone and T-mobile but i'm not to sure which is the best, Web n Walk certainly looks a good option.
I would have purchased the phone on contract but being a student it wouldn't be a wise option, does anybody know any decent price plans?
Aswell as how much would this cost.
thanks.

I don't see why they won't offer it to you guys!

Odd that they are offering you this as I enquired on Thursday and all O2 had were tarrifs way less competitive than the t-mobile ones. I'd have preferred 02 just for the black unit rather than the ugly silver!
Same here, plus O2 coverage is slightly better.
I had to ask specifically for that one, though; the 'offered' ones, although better than last time I checked, are still a bit pricey and not competitive with Web'n'Walk.
If you think T-Mobile's Universal is ugly, you should see the Orange one! Rock-grey with RED keyboard backlight! *shudders* Is T-Mobile's backlight pink?
T-mobile backlight is red. Aren't they all?
I use my Orange Uni (with beautiful red keyboard) with a 3G PAYG SIM in, which for £1 a day gives me unlimited use of 3G internet until midnight.
Phone 450 then follow the menus (3,1,1,1,1,1) and you will get it from when you phoned and listened for the confirmation until 00:00 that night.
Seems like a brilliant idea to me.
Mobiles4Everyone have the T-Mobile MDA Pro on a Flext 30 Web 'n Walk for £32.50 p/m with the phone costing £69.99 or
£27.50 p/m on Flext 25 Web 'n Walk witht he phone at £99.99.

Hi guys,
I bought my Exec in February 2006. I have the 12month contract(£19) and i also bought the 4 meg GPRS bundle(£4)
O2 however have never charged me for using any data. Whenever I go onto the online bill the amount of data usage is always 0.
£24 a month unlimited data usage + some free minutes and txts (although i'm not a crazy data sucker so probably dont use any more than 15-20 megs)
Don't suppose anyone has any ideas on why it's free? or for how long ? don't want to query it just incase

I am looking for a good data plan in Canada. I really like to use Skype to make calls because its cheaper than GSM price plan. On skype you can have $15 for full year unlimited outgoing calls. I think it is $100 for 1 year for incoming calls. But i dont think i will have to worry too much about incoming calls. Anyone know any good package that will support skype calling?
it transfers a LOT of data compared to other GPRS applications. even if you get an "unlimited" deal, you'll probably exceed the fair use limit.

Re web browsing with a small screen - do you guys know about the google portal for mobiles? It's a web proxy that reformats websites for small screens. The data transferred is much smaller than going direct.

O2 vs O2 Online
I've had my XDA Exec for 15 months, bought through O2 Online (i.e. the website) and I've been frustrated with envy since the Web'n'Walk tariff on T-mobile came out. Every month I ring O2 to ask if they can compete, and every month they tell me that the only unlimited tariff is the £70 all-you-can-eat tariff, designed for businesses. When I read the post about the Blackberry Unlimited bolt-on above, I was over the moon! I immediately called O2 Online customer services, only to be told that they don't support Blackberry and it's only tariffs bought via the O2 shops that offer that tariff - is that utterly infuriating or what? O2 simply don't want my money...
I'm going to wait out the remaining three months and then go to T-Mobile for one of those tastly little Varios with a slide out keyboard thingy.
Currently T-Mo are offering 25% off for life - which means you can get flext + web n walk for £20.62 a month. That's unlimited data and £34 worth of calls/texts/video calls, hard to beat.
Also if you aren't concerned about video calling give the Crossbow ROM a shot - Internet Explorer has gained a hi-res mode and looks amazing. Its as close to desktop browsing as Opera and about four hundred times faster...

Orange Tarrifs for the Touch HD

Post the deal you got here... Lets work together to make sure we all get the deal we want out of Orange!
What were you offered and how much?
For example today I got offered 3gig fair usage but i'm sure thats a load of rubbish!
Phone £49.99 - with £100 rebate in credit on account
Panther 45 - £20.00/month (long term customer discount)
free upgrade to 500mb/month data.
however i called orange today to ask about data usage as I have seen 1000mb else where and I was advised that there is no additional charge for use over my 500mb a month and that I would only receive a text message telling me I had gone over the fair usage amount - when asked what would happen if this was to continue I was told there was no penalties what so ever. (I asked that this conversation was adequately recorded on their system) In practice I think they are using the fair use system as a sales tool when in fact it does not really exist.
It does sound like it very much depends on your previous usage / length of time with Orange / your bartering skills LOL
I've been with Orange forever, but my bill is generally quite low - I got a deal which wan't quite as good as that cost wise (also on Panther 45), but did include the unlimited data usage.
Orange have a 'Blackberry connect' deal running at the mo, which offers unlimited data use for £5 a month - I guess they might have the option to apply this to non-Blackberry phones too?
Took a couple of "I need to speak to my manager" breaks, and I was on the phone to them for an hour.
But I was happy with the resulting deal
Great idea for this thread, I was just about to start one up however it would be appreciatied if all tariffs offered are marked as "New Contract" or "Upgrade".
I popped into town today to buy the Touch HD from Orange as a new contract and see how well I could do.
Well I've gotta warn people DO NOT BUY FROM NOTTINGHAM (Broadmarsh) unless you want to PAY FULL PRICE. Completely un-negotiable! 'Area Manager' refused to offer any discount what so ever because it was a 'just release handset'. Still can't believe that I suggested that I move upto £40p/m and was met with the same contempt!
Whilst chatting to the other staff, the lad let it slip that the 'area manager' has already given as many discounts as she's allowed for the month and its unlikely that I'll get anywhere even talking to her. Unfortunately, she then told him to get rid of me since I wasn't going to get anything (obviously she didn't like the look of me, loitering in the shop waiting for her to deal with some OAPs buying a topup).
I can't fault the lad I was talking to, since he's got no authorisation and was very apologetic but despite saying that he's practically got a sale on his hands and its effectively ££££ walking out the door and ends up as lost revenue, neither the him or the area manager would offer any kind of discount.
Oh well, next place is Derby I guess - hopefully the manager hasn't spent their quota of discounts

Hmmm I was informed in-store that the only data tariff they have is the 250mb @ £7.50p/m - I repeatedly asked if there was any other options, teirs, or offers which would increae my limit and he responded everytime with "the all we've got, we are really uncompetative with out data charges".
Mine was sort of new (I've got to cancel my previous [expired] contract), as I believe that Orange don't officially have stock for upgrades at the mo.
I've always found that I get the best deal by phoning them.
You might (if you're lucky) get a better deal face to face in store - but only if the manager likes you / has deals left.
And if they have any in stock anyway.
Obviously, you stand a chance of physically walking away with one in your hand doing it that way - but at least the call centre people have access to centralised stock, not just the 3 (or however many) that have been delivered to the store that week
Are these 18 month or 12 month contracts? I can't get a good deal on 12 months (They have conveniently lost a good 12 month offer i was made on Saturday!)
Mine was 18 month.
Anything else I forgot to add?
I'm on an 18 month contract (had to move from 12) This is why they offered the £100 credit.
Also i cant imagine getting a better upgrade deal from the store as they operate on a commission basis, the store would only offer better terms on a new contact for low use customers.
touch hd
I'm currently paying about £40 a month including the mobile internet option, contract finishes in a month.
I was offered £15 a month for 1000 mins, loads of texts and apparently unlimited internet. I have to pay £120 for the phone though.
I'll believe it when I get the phone in my hand; still waiting for them to get more stock, I was told it should be tomorrow (Wed Nov 10th).
This was over the phone btw.
They aren't even making me quit Orange and start a new contract like the have every time for the past eight years.
Sounds like a good deal to me but I'm wondering if they will "lose" this offer when they get more stock
£35/month, panther 45
250MB data (grrr)
£100 for phobe with £100 cashback.
I'm not sure how you guys got much better deals than me... :/
My deal:
Phone cost: £199 but will get £60 credit on bills so no bill for a few months!
Data: Unlimited data (FUP Capped at 500MB)
Mins: 300 X Network Mins
100 Txt Messages
Unlimited Landline calls
£20pm - 18month contract
7 Days DSR / Cooling off
This was the best deal I could get since my last 3 bills were quite low.
There was no negotiating with them on the handset price, although I did try - including threats to leave as I was out of contract. Sometimes that works and sometimes not.
Touch HD in stock for upgrades - just got a text. However they will not discount from £199 for the handset (although I could get £20 a month for Racoon)
Think I may buy out of the contract I'm on, and go with either the Expansys deal or the mobiles.co.uk instead
Doh!
Just called up Orange and they couldn't find the 15 p/m offer on their system.
Apparently it was from a different department so I'm waiting for a call back with someone from disconnections rather than retentions.
Will keep you all updated
got it ordered
It's now ordered and should be delivered tomorrow or maybe Friday.
Panther 45 for £40 a month with a £25 discount getting it down to 15 for the duration of the 18 month contract.
Free broadband if I want it (i don't), 1200 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited (250MB) internet and £129 for the phone.
And I get to keep my number. Looks like Orange have got over their "brand new customer only" mindset.
Out of the four people I spoke to there was only one muppet, a definite improvement and they now tell you how long you will have to wait to speak to someone instead of keeping you on hold for thirty minutes.
After years of slagging Orange I'm now actually happy with them.
Woo hoo!
brilliant
been playing with it all day and i've got to say i'm impressed.
only gripe so far is landscape doesn't work for all apps. GSen fixes this though and also turns it off when you put it face down.
touchflo i pretty cool but i miss spb diary so am experimenting with it turned off.
the options for claunch don't render on the big screen but appart from that it's a wicked bit of kit.
phoned orange for the pac code as I'm thinking of moving to O2 home broadband, so moving my mobile as well(to get the ~£5/month reduction the broadband). after asking for the pac code(they offered their broadband for £8/month(as I don't have orange at my exchange so can't get it free) on their home start(only 10gb usage), the home max(40gb) for £23/month) I asked to see what offer they could do on the touch hd(wasn't expecting much as the experiance back in october asking for the omnia wasn't fruitful(wouldn't go under £110 on £30/month contract), £25/month(500mins(quite a bit more then my needs), 100texts(not a big texter) & unlim land line(most of my calls are to land line)), handset for £175(with £130 credit to my following months bill, so £45 for the handset) + £5/month for 'unlim' web(500mb, used to be 250mb. apperently increased from boxing day). I'm going to see if I can get a couple quid more off a month and/or the handset down to £150(not hopefull on that).
I'm tempted to go ahead and get the touch hd from orange, but tryin to decide due to the O2 brodband. also thinking of waiting till the N97 comes out next year(1st half of 2009 according to what mobile).
The deal I ended up with is:
£49.99 for phone
£50 rebate
1200 Minutes
500 Texts
Limited to 250mb fair usage ... (but they always say unlimited when I call ??)
£30 a month
Amazing phone. Well worth it.

Thats a cracking good deal for 30 quid a month you got there... just hope you didnt have to get on your knee's for it lol .
Anyways....you guys forget about orange and their rubish about not available for upgrades etc and head on to mobiles.co.uk and grab it from there either as upgrade or new contract (free hd ) ...either way I found it nuch simpler than dealing with the lovelly people at orange and bagged a unlocked and unbranded HD through my Mrs upgrade for 60 quid (shes quite happy with her trusty pink nokia ) and now running my o2 sim that is due for upgrade in february but will just change it for the simplicity tariff since wont need a new phone for now but will keep it as a contingency plan for the HD successor :-D
NEVER EVER EVER buy a phone from your local orange shop - they are a useless set of twits who have no idea of half of the capabilities of the phone and then try to rip you off - for example:
couple of weeks ago I visited them (under the impression the Touch HD was exclusive to them) - They could only offer me either £200 for the handset on a £35 per month contract OR £50 for the handset on £45 per month handset (18 months). At the time I was happy to pay this, but put a deadline on them for the next following day as they didnt have the device in stock and said they would have to procure it.
That night I went on teh interwibble and Carphone warehouse were doing them for £137 for the handset on £35 per month contract. Phones 4 U however were doing them FREE on £35 per month contract.
I visited the orange shop next day ready to bargain - but luckily they didnt get the Touch HD in stock, so told them where to go and ordered it from Phones4U over the phone. 2 Days later a VERY happy bunny having saved £200!!!
Moral of the story - tell orange to go play with themselves and goto a third party provider like Phones4u
300£ for phone
270£ cash back
800 min, unlimited texts and unlimited landline
500mb/month fair usage policy.
also received a samsung g600 to keep my other orange number.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, tried searching but couldn't find the answer I was looking for! Basically, I shall be purchasing this within 24 hours. My friend showed me this phone at the weekend and i was blown away!
Ok been searching and found some good deals for all networks, but what have you guys got and does it effect the phone in anyway? Any networks better that others in regards to the general running of the phone?
I am currently with Voda, and have found http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk are selling it on voda along with a T mobile contract.
Also Orange and O2 on another site. But have bad history with both in regards to signal/customer service etc.
The frustrating thing is why are O2 and Vodafone not selling direct from their website?? Instead need to go though a third party?
That's not a frustrating thing for me...I don't want Vodafone branding over my nice new Touch HD thanks....I got mine from mobilephonesdirect on a Voda contract and they were first class.
Thats true. Ill probably order that tomorrow. Quick stupid question......... im getting one with unlimeted mobile web but then under it, it states web browsing £1 per 15MGB per day? im confused!

They have some very good offers - Orange do unlimited (500mb fair usage) data for 5 pounds a month I am quite a heavy data user yet always been okay with the amount.
You can get a free web-book, lcd tv, ps3 or xbox 360 or cashback... and the tariffs are very good.
I have used them time and time again excellent service etc.

That's because Orange have an exclusive distribution deal with HTC in the UK.
So the only way to get it on any network but Orange is through a third party supplier.
Personally I'd say T-Mobile are your best bet.
Their Combi 30 tariff is excellent value (700 mins & unlimited texts) and you can add on their unlimited (1GB fair use policy) W'n'W package for an extra £5.
When I took the phone on that package, it was through eXpansys and I had to pay towards it but the site you've linked to in the first post is offering it on the same package for free, so I wouldn't hesitate if I were you.
I got mine from mobiles.co.uk, network O2, 600 mins, 500 texts, Unlimited texts bolt on for 30 pounds per month, with £75 auto-cash-back. Right after the phone arrived, changed the bolt-on (by requesting O2) to Unlimited data, so ended up with 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data for £30 per month. I think its a good deal with an unbranded Touch HD. There's a great thread about buying from mobiles.co.uk. Check it out

I was on voda for years and never had a single problem with connectivity, customer service was always good and I could get through to them when i called every time. I wanted this phone and as i was an early adopter i had to go voda, mistake... where i have not really had any connectivity issues there is a problem with my bill and i havent been able to get through to them in 2 weeks, every time i call i am left waiting 30 mins and then some idiot picks me up and cuts me off and i go back to the beginning again, sometimes i just get bored of waiting and try again later. i have tried about 15 times.
pings to google.com from t-mobile are over a second, thats pretty bad in the modern world.

where to get a HD2 and how...

I appreciate that quite a few of you have now got one but some of us are still struggling to get our paws on one Personally I want one through o2 but cant seem to get to the front of the queue for placing an order! I could jump ship but would like to stick with them so the burning question is how did you guys do it? Did those of you on o2 get it through a 3rd party eg: paid towards it with someone like carphone warehouse or bmobiles or did you wander into a store who happened to have one fall through their letterbox as you stepped in? When you've had to put up with o2 telling you contradicting "pork pies" about how they haven't shipped any and dont do it yet it makes you start to wonder

Personally, I bought mine outright from Expansys.com, SIM free. I've got a monthly contract with O2 where I get enough minutes and texts with a web bolt-on for less than £20 a month. It suits me, but then I had £500 to spare (ish )
I always like the idea of going SIM free, in case something comes out that I really want but can't afford it. I'll just get an 18 or 24 month contract in that situtation, and probably try and get something like a PS3 with it, so I can sell my current phone and the console, so I'll end up with a new phone and a wad of cash. That should help make me feel better about signing up to a contract
Since I went the SIM free route, I can't really advise on who has them and who doesn't, as far as contracts go.

Bad news on the O2 front, they finally had some in store yesterday so I could go over and find out what they will be costing on contract. To get it for free you have to sign up for a £45/month contract and that only gives you 1200mins and 500texts. You dont even get the internet package that you get with the iphone. Go for a lower tarif package and you are looking at £100 for the phone..
I will be waiting til vodafone get new stock (with an updated rom) on 11th December. Free phone for £35/month and you get 900mins UNLIMITED texts (3000 FUP), UNLIMITED landline calls (3000mins FUP), UNLIMITED internet (500MB FUP). Plus the vodafone HD's seem to be unlocked and unbranded so in my opinion thats a winning deal and well worth the wait
Each to their own mskip..you do know that the deal you're looking at gets you an extra 300mins if you do it online? all of course assuming that you can live with them making you wait for an indefinate period of time to despatch it

Yeah actually the 300 extra minutes is available online or over the phone. Over the phone the order gets processed right away for next day delivery so I think im gona be doing it that way lol. Waited long enough for it I figure my patience will stretch to a few more days
Could have got it from a vodafone store 2 weeks ago but they dont offer the internet package and I guess im a tight git I want the most value for my money haha.
we're singing from the same book there buddy..I'm hoping to get one on something like the palms tarif and preferably as a business customer..unltd 02 calls,10 unltd land lines and ultd www would do me nicely at £35 ish a mnth even over 24mths as you can upgrade at the 12mth point and get whtaevers hot then
You guys are making me jealous :\
Back here in Portugal you pay 15 euros for a 100min plan plus 15€/month for a 500MB data plan...
Just try some different vodafone stores, I went to 20 different and one could tell me 2 weeks ago that they would get one that afternoon so I directly reserved it. If you can't find any on stock the next shipment will come in on 17th of december (north ireland).
Its free with a 35 pounds bussines plan it includes 1000 minutes, Unlimited texts, Unlimited Landlines, Unlimited Internet and Vodafone Passport.
Good luck!

Not strictly true. I performed my upgrade two weeks ago yesterday when O2 first got them in stock. I did what I always do when going for an upgrade, threaten to leave. I was told a £35, 18 month tariff would mean the phone would cost £98. I asked to be put through to retentions where I asked for my PAC code. When they asked why I explained I wasn't happy with the fact O2 wanted to charge me £100 for a phone I can get from Vodafone for nothing (not strictly true but he didn't appear to realise that). After a few more persuasive arguments and another threat to leave, he said he 'managed' to get the phone down to £1.72 for me on an 18 month, £35 tariff with 600 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited data (or 750mb to be precise).
However, I have heard they have cottoned onto people doing this and are now refusing point blank to offer the phone for less than £98. It's got to be worth a shot though.

You sure about that? I got unlimited data the same as the iPhone on a £35 a month tariff. Oh, and be careful with Vodafone's fair usage data policy, you get charged as soon as you go over 500mb, even in the first month. O2's is much better, you have to go over 750mb on a regular basis before they threaten to charge you.
EDIT: just checked and you're wrong there mate - you get a free bolton that you select yourself on all tariffs including and above the 600 minute £35 a month one. One of the selectable boltons is for unlimited web/data. Check the link out.

which as a "retention deal for a valued customer" is still pretty poor when for only £5 more at vodafone you'll get 1200minutes,ultd texts, ultd data (fup 500mb?) AND ultd landlines over 18mths,oh and that's with the phone for free...what would an extra £5 at o2 get you?not that much I'll guarantee..it seems o2 think they have their customers over a barrel at the moment due to this phones popularity which will no doubt see them losing quite a few punters in the short term! Why they didn't just put it on the same tariff as the Palm Pre is beyond me and is the deal I would/intend to snap up as soon as I can.

Yes, but I'd rather pay a little bit extra to avoid Vodafone as I think they're an awful network.
As for the deal you mention, as I never go over my 600 minutes anyway, the extras you speak of mean little to me even if they do only cost £5 more. 1000 texts is effectively unlimited to the vast majority of people and O2's unlimited web deal is better for reasons I pointed out above and that is something I use a lot.
No, I'll stick to O2 thanks and I suggest you do the same.

Its alot easier to get a better deal if you are already with your provider and go for an upgrade. At the moment im with orange and they have absolutely nothing worth getting right now (except the iphone 3gs lol) which means I have to goto a new network
I think everyone you talk to will give you different information. For example in the O2 shop I was told the data bolt on was upto 500MB but in the terms and conditions on the website it says unlimited. In the vodafone store and on the phone I have been told that if you go over your 500MB FUP then you will be contacted and that you will definitely not be charged extra for going over the limit. I know that with the O2 bolt on you arent allowed to used your phone as a modem or for video/audio streaming unless you pay extra which is why they have taken youtube off their roms and is pretty stupid really.
You are right that you can get a free bolt on with O2 but with only 500 texts available instore (I think its doubled to 1000 online) its still not enough for me in business use and I would need that bolt on to upgrade to unlimited texts. That of course means I need to pay extra for the data bolt on
Also with vodafone giving unlimited landline calls it means I can do most of my business calls for free and leave my included minutes for family and friends
I know everyone has their prefered network but for everything they are including and the much cheaper tarif I think my only option is vodafone I just hope the stock comes in on the 11th after putting it back 2 times . When I rang htc yesterday they said the delay was because they are putting extra software on for vodafone so im assuming thats the 360 software.
I fully intend to its just a matter of getting the right deal (although I could say any deal at the moment with o2!) I've never tried voda myself but as I get through over 2000mins/mth on o2 (ultd o2's and got all my buddies using them too)straying isn't a very attractive option to me and as for texts, dont use them at all (think my avg over the last mth was 2!)

Consider yourself lucky..
Here in Belgium, you have to pay 20€ for a 85 minute plan (no free sms) + 20€/Month for 200Mb data (or 25€ for 500Mb)
If you want unlimited voice, unlimited sms, but no data, it'll cost you 89€
Also note that you have to buy the phone full price (paid 570€ for the HD2), there are no offers combining a phone and a plan.
I don't think there are many countries where the phone and internet plans (don't get me started on those ) are that expensive

Indeed. I don't think the HD2 is available to new customers on O2 yet, it certainly isn't listed as being available on their website. Which is ridiculous considering I have had it for over two weeks.

My O2 branded HD2 has/had Youtube on it, although they had removed the Wi-Fi router. However, I have just used a goldcard to upgrade my firmware to 1.48 which has effectively turned it into a sim-free model and put the wi-fi router option back. As for O2 not allowing tethering, I do it anyway the same way I used to on my iPhone. Providing you don't take the p**s and download 1gb+ a month they have no way of determining the difference between you browsing on the phone and browsing on your laptop through it.

I'm glad you mentioned that actually..my first "chats" with o2 to get this on a business account led me to inquire about the cost of 3gb data allowance..I was quite prepared to stump up £15/mth so I could ditch the dongle from 3 that I use only to be told that 3gb of data would cost me £405/mth,yes,thats right £405.00 a month! so what if all the sharers on the account get to share it,its still £405 and there's only me on the contract! and to cap it all the woman in question wanted me to pay towards the phone as well!!!
Got a few days ago a update from a friend that works at a vodafone store, just after I got mine they were all called from the vodafone warehouse to HTC because they wanted to fix first some (in my eyes minor) bugs like the pink camera problem...
just like we were told o2 did then...

are vodafone ripping you off aswell??

my latest bill is £58!!! im paying the £35 p/m contract and have insurance. on the first bill they sent, the contract didnt say i had free internet so my dad rang up to sort it out and ended up paying £5 p/m extra for internet...even though the contract i paid for when i ordered the phone said you got free unlimited internet so even with them stealing another £5 off me a month for unlimited internet it should of only been £50 at the most. but no, im still being billed 40p for the internet on random occasions, so they racked up £7 of internet charges i owe them. fair usage policy is 500mb and i only used 280mb.
sorry for wall of text, just need to vent my rage
wtf vodafone, wtf...
Is the bill for more than 1 month? I know for me it was to cover a month and a half as they have changed the billing method...
I'm getting my PAC anyway as I've had other billing issues with them, just make sure you check the breakdown thoroughly!!!
review your contract. if it says you get unlimited net included then they have no right to charge you more.
I'm on £35 a month with Vodafone for 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet. my first bill was exactly £35.
on what date did you start your contract? Vodafone will always renew it on the 1st of the month. so say you take out a contract on the 20th, and bearing in mind they charge a month in advance. you'll pay for the 10 or so days from the 20th till the 1st, and the following months worth.
hope that makes some sense!
forgot to add, virgin mobile offer 900 mins, unlimited texts n internet for £30 a month! more for less with them.
Vodafone have been pretty awful at applying my data package, ive had monthly bills of £182, £168 and £380! All sorted and credited back, but quite scary when the bill comes in!
i got it basicly the first day it was on sale from their website, i got the web exculsive offer of 900 mins, unlimited internet and texts for £35 p/m even though we paid by phone, as my dad didnt want to use his debit card online... the guy said the contract was the same as what was online! on my contract it says i dont get the free unlimited internet or even any internet included :| hope i make sense, its late and im tired sorry.
I always found it misleading they advertised to consumers with prices excluded from tax.
just like UPC tv company here advertises for phone/digital TV/Fiberglass internet for only €40 a month. But they don't tell you that you still have to pay the basic TV charges of €18 minimal and that all the prices are ex VAT. You end up paying €90 a month.
i got a letter the other day saying the first payment would be taken out 15 days from inserting the sim card and that i would be billed 1 month in advanced or somthing...
i hate vodafone, wish i'd waited a week and gone with virgin (didnt realise they were getting the phone )
Ring Customer Services ASAP
I had a similar problem- looked at the web offers but ordered over the phone. The phone rep didn't pass all the correct tariff details to the accounts people.
Remember, you have a contract, agreed verbally to include Mobile Data. They are legally bound to honour that, and CS should be helpful in making sure it is correct, and removing the extra £5 charge.
Your plan is £35 per month and that is what they should charge. I believe the insurance is an extra £10 per month for the HD2, but that is a rip-off as it seems they won't replace like with like if anything goes wrong.

Because of this, I would recommend firstly phoning VF and if that fails, a hand written letter to VF, and if that fails contact OFCOM and all this to continue paying £35p/m with unlimited internet. What has happened is misselling of the contract, you may have got it from a third party rather than direct from VF, however VF should alos uphold your complaint.
How long has it been since you had it delivered? if it is less than 7 days (i'm guessing not as you've had the bill), then under the distant selling rules you can get a refund (minus usage/linerental for those 7 days).
With regards to the bill being so high VF do take the a month in advance so the first month is always more expensive.
I on-line ordered an HD2 from VF on a 2 year business contract at 700 mins, unlimted texts and internet.
My first bill arrived for an unknown number with a service charge type item and the rest on PAYG basis.
They didn't fully commute the data for my porting of my retained number for some reason, so it didn't show on that bill.
It's seemingly all been sorted, and I'm now on 900 mins per per month, but yet to receive my first bill for the one and only number i wanted them to port across. i await the first bill with much interest!
Oh, and i cancelled my direct debit until I'm 100% sure they corrected all of thier errors!
Man i want to be with Virgin..!! VF sucks.! how can i get out of my contract
Read the topic by Virgin Mobile users like me.
The data speeds are generally quite poor. I'm thinking of returning my HD2 because of it.
