Ordered my X1i from Clove UK last Fri. Good and fast service.
So far, I am impressed. Speedwise, it could be one of my fastest PDA phone (slower than x51v of course, and on par w/ Asus P525). Despite some thread complaint USB charging is not working, my Thinkpad T60 can charge w/o problem (w/ +200mA rate reported by battery status).
The good:
1. Very good screen resolution w/ such an small size (I am surprise it's even smaller than my ATT Tilt)
2. Overall speed is good
3. Good A2DP sound
The Bad:
1. Reset button is covered by the battery cover...
2. The battery cover is quite easy to fall off
3. A2DP drops after phone call (like any HTC phone I got)
4. Doesn't comes w/ any voicecommand program. Need to patch the dll w/ HD one in order for Cyberon VC to work
5. The plastic part of the case is flimsy, mine crack too in 3 months and have to ship to SE to fix it.
Working Software Compatibility:
1. IGuidance 2009. - Work w/ VGA version w/ acceptable minor glitch.
2. TomTom7 (7.450 (9028) w/ 725.1905 USA and Canada) runs perfectly
3. Igo8 works (and never be so smooth before)
4. Garmin mobile xt (and never be so smooth before as well)
5. TCPMP recompiled version somewhere in XDA
6. Core player 1.24 (1.25 or above has issue like another other Qualcomm WVGA device)
7. PhoneAlarm
8. Softmaker office suite
9. Isilo
10. Spb backup
11. Resco photo viewer
12. CE Star R3c w/ handwritting input method
13. SPB Wallet
14. Memmaid (empty space outside the VGA area, not a big deal)
15. Magicall
16. Resco explorer
17. AE Button Plus
18. Skype
19. World Card Mobile (minor display glitch)
20. Resco Audio recorder
.... (more to come)
Non-working:
1.
Headset & A2DP (AVRC):
Both Sony HBH DS-205 & JVC BT-1 (Car unit) - A2DP got dropped after phone call. Seen on my AT&T Tilt as well, but not on Asus P525 and Eten M600. Probably something have to do w/ HTC's bluetooth.
3G w/ AT&T:
San Jose: 760k - 1.5mb on various test w/ DSLreport 1M file.

Can´t confirm, the cover on my black X1 ist even hard to take off.
Overall build quality top notch (at least till now)
Can somebody please confirm if PhoneAlarm works on the X1
Rather worried about the battery cover looseness. Would like to hear more on this if it is a problem with one device or a general problem
Thanks

Hi Mimi, I got it from UK clove for ~$750 (include shipped no tax). Depends on where you live, you can get it from UK or Hong Kong. (opps U got the same last name as mine)
Srmz,
Phonealarm does work so far (BT/wifi switch, screen rotate etc)
The cover is not that bad. But compare to other phones I had, x1 is quite easy to comes off
It was my understanding the X1i did not handle US 3G bands. Is this not true?

For the US the X1i only handles 1900 MHz UMTS. Some US networks provide this in some areas.

there is a review on youtube showing that the x1i can connect to ATT 3G network automatically
I am in San Bernardino Area and Los Angeles area and I still got 3G (1900mzh) too. So far, only in some Milpitas area (but so do my ATT Tilt) got Edge.

I purchased the Holux GPSlim 236 and now looking for a software for it. I was looking around and like the iGuidance v3.0. Does anyone know if those two pair will work on the Cingular 8125? Thanks.
iGuidance 3
I have seen people that were using iG3 on their wizards and said it worked great. Your BT GPS module should work fine as well. I personally think that iG3 is the best option for the Wizard family since it uses the least amount of system resources of most any software option and has the easiest to use setup for maps.
You are probably going to want to use OMAPClock to overclock the CPU to use IGuidance. It works fairly well without being overclocked but can take 30 seconds to a minute to reroute if you miss a turn. It's definately a lot slower to update your position than when I have it paired with my laptop. I want to test this out again with the CPU overcloced to see what gains I will see, but I seem to have misplaced my Bluetooth GPS receiver...haha
I also have the Holux GPSlim 236 and I use it with Tomtom, it takes a while to start, but once loaded it works perfectly without overclocking and reroutes in no time at all
I just got my Iguidance 3 and Holux bundle in the mail yesterday.
Hehehe...all day at work i was anxiously waiting for quittin time while watching the Holux charge up...also installing IG3 on my MDA.
When i got home, spent 5-10 mins installing the mount, then off i was...so far works great...

I looked at both, and I think the only reason that iguidance would take longer to reroute, is that the maps are more detailed? This is a guess, because I looked at my usa state's map, and on tomtom its 30 megs, but on iguidance, its 66 megs.
Just a possibility.
I have heard however, the maps for iguidance are much better in the usa than tomtom's usa maps.
Hi, i also plan on getting a GPS, and i need a full crash course.
can someone help me out?
cons and pros cheapest and the best GPS thing and the programs.
also screen shots of how they look would be nice.
i don't drive often since i live in NYC, but i could find a GPS handy, and i could go Geo cache in central park.
thnks!
IG3 Screenshots
I don't have my gps unit hooked up but this gives you the basic idea of IG3. It's a great program and runs much faster on a laptop or my Dell Axim. This is noticably slower but works well since I always have this with me. To store Oregon and Washington maps on my storage card takes up about 125Mb of storage on my 2Gb mini sd card. There's still lots of room for programs, email attachments and music.

I use iGuidance 2.1.3 or so with my HTC wizard and a Holux GPSlim236 and it works AMAZING! When it needs to recalculate, it takes all of a few seconds! I'll get IG3 at some point i'm sure, but for now 2.1.3 works fine for me...the maps don't seem old.
cool, thanks!
so what do i need? to get started?
do i need a service plan or something?
can i load geo cache stuff with it?
and what did u mean by "This is noticably slower"
thanks!
ps, does anyone live in the city, i wonder how the city maps look like. is it detailed? thanks!
Hey Ray_jai - in the same boat - mine's en route!
I'm not only new to the GPS usage, but only just ordered the MDA itself - and it's my first cell&net driven PDA! I have the GPS unit coming also and will be (trying) to set it up quickly....
....and it's my first GPS as well!
I've been using IG3 now for just about a week. And it being my first GPS i think its great.
I live in the city, and general just use the map function to see where i am, (not for directions cuz i generally know where i am). However i've tested it out in the twisty curvy roads of the suburbs just outside Boston, MA, and i'll tell u it works like a charm. I even tested out how fast it re-calculates when i purposely ignored a turn, it literally took 5 seconds to give me a new route to get me back in the correct direction.
I've also found new faster routes and shortcuts to get to friends' places that i've been going to for years.
Just to answer a few questions...
Things needed:
You need a pocketpc...in the case of this sub-forum a Wizard.
GPS Software, (IGuidance, TomTom, ur choice) I chose IG3
GPS Receiver (i chose the Holux GPSlim)
A miniSD card to store ur map info...depending on ur state or states...these could take a few megs. I have the whole north and central east coast loaded, and it takes up about 300 mbs.
A car  (not necesary, u could keep the receiver in ur pocket and walk around)
And some reading on these forums to make sure u have ur Wizard setup and ready for the software install. (i.e. My stock Tmobile rom had hidden the additional GPS settings on the MDA, had to perform a registry tweak to unhide it).
There is no subscription or anything needed.
only thing u need to shell out is the money to buy the software and the receiver. And perhaps ur electricty bill when u charge these devices up.
For those considering...check out buygpsnow.com or semsons.com for a great price on their bundles.
thanks!!!
the screen shots on the site is different from urs...
are those just stock photos? thanks
does the GPS itself need a memory stick?
and is there a smaller gps unit? thanks!
and which site do u guys trust more?
can anyone provide links and/or upload any of the programs needed for GPS to work. im really interesting in this.

you have to buy a GPS receiver and you have to buy GPS map software...like iGuidance or TomTom
On a similar note, is there anyway to stop the screen turning off when im using my gps software like memorymap? I dont mind the light going off but id like the screen to stay on. Ive got a feeling that when the screen turns off the gps stops tracking within memory map and then guesses where the route went when turned back on.

i'm pretty sure it continues to work. I tested it the other day driving through the canyon from PCH to my house. I didn't touch it the whole 11 mile stretch. The screen was off for at least 20 minutes and when I exited the canyon, i told me where to go. 8)
Is there a demo or something for iG3? I have TomTom and I really don't like the directions it gives me. I hope the engines aren't the same.
I've been thinking about getting GPS for a while now. I'm just hesitant to dump $170 for a receiver and software.
OK had the Universal for a year now....
Only just started using true VGA so really didn't get much advantage from that VGA screen.
Love the fact that the Universal protects the screen but still like the idea of a smaller device with keyboard and lovely scroll wheel (slurp).
So has anyone gone from a Universal to a Vario II????
Is it an upgrade/better/what's your feeling on the change?
Mmmmm shiny new toy's
I'm toying with the same idea. The only advantage I can see is HSDPA.
I can't help, but some of our users over at www.4winmobile.com have owned both. you might get an answer from there?
Yeah...I sold an exec to buy an hermes! I'm very very happy! However, It has some problems...wich? voicemail notification, screen alignment, keyboard, a2dp and notification. Somebody has camera problems too...so I can say that this unit is a great unit but it still has some bugs.

I've had the Universal, Wizard & Prophet. It's down to personal preferance, but I for one prefer this device over the others. If size wasn't an issue I'd say stick with the Universal for that raw 520Mhz CPU and VGA screen and very user friendly keyboard. But as size is an issue, the Hermes does have a couple of added benefits i.e. superb 2MP Camera and Camcorder and pretty good one-handed device which with its many buttons and AE button (3rd party appl) is extremely customisable. Additionally, for a QVGA screen, the display is pretty damn good, but not comparable to a VGA screen.
Finally, you won't be getting much bang for your buck in switching, it's just down to preferance. Good luck.
I have gone from O2 Exec (Universal) to HTC TyTN (Hermes / Vario II).
The Universal has the faster CPU as mentioned elsewhere but the internal memory of the TyTN is faster. I did some rough tests which I have posted below for info.

Over all the TyTN looks faster but its worth noting it has an easier job to do graphics-wise with a 320x240 screen instead of the Universal's 640x480 to render all the time.
That said - none of this is as important as which device best suits you. I love my TyTN for it's (much) smaller size, 802.11g wi-fi and fast browsing. Your needs / preferences are bound to be different.
Codeus
@supermoocow
I have both and I would recommend the TyTN because of its portability. The keyboard and screen of the TyTN obviosuly are not as good as the Universal but the TyTN is faster in everyday usage and there is no delay when there is an incoming call and the device aletering you. Also I am sure the TyTN has a lot more free RAM for user apps (will need to check when I'm home tonight); the TyTN has at least 32mb free.
Yes - I've got both, and find the Hermes is far better as a 'phone' - not only is it smaller and more portable, but little things like successfully answering or placing a call just work, which is nice.
It's not just HSDPA; I find the radio is much more stable; I used to be frustrated by the Universal not having signal in many areas, whilst now I rarely lose UMTS connection, nevermind having no connection at all.
There are compromises, but ultimately it feels like a true upgrade to me. Maybe with future ROM's, the Universal will achieve parity on some areas, but it will never feel comfortable in my jeans pocket...
Hi guys,
yep got a vario II just over a month ago
Yep its one sweet device. Had to change first one due to screen alignment however second one seems fine (although seems slower at picking up 3G areas than 1st one for some reason...).
Vario
Nice comfortable size to take to work/client sites etc.
Actually works as a phone (i.e. picks up calls before they hangup...etc...)
3.5g is cool
tmobile web n walk is sooo much sweeter than o2 data plans
Universal
wifi seems better....I know is only b but gets signals better & doesn't drop so much
keyboard a lot better
VGA screen
So I use vario II day to day and still use the universal in the house for internet browsing (yep have a tablet pc but its just so cool using the universal ).
I bought the Vario II on T-mobile contract mainly to get the web'n walk feature and my contract with O2 was running out. I didn't see myself as being able to fully give up the VGA screen (indispensable for Tom Tom) as well as the speed of the Exec (only on paper, never found it stunningly fast)but was thinking maybe I can use the Vario II every now and then. Well as it turned out, my Exec's now sitting around gathering dust with the Vario being with me everywhere.
Apart from the size factor which turned out to be a massive factor, one major point that the VarioII has which Exec doesn't is full compatibility with the 3G networks in Japan; apparently with the Exec, it only supports one particular 3G frequency or something but Japan's Docomo uses another band which the Exec doesn't support. Given teh Vario's operation in Japan, it makes it (personally) the clear winner; anyone want to buy an Exec?
Hermes is very nice.
Fast, good form factor, usable keyboard.
On Orange UK, the button layout is perverse, bags of free space on the front, but they squeeze the buttons into 0.8cmx1.5cm of almost unsuable space. I don't use any of the front buttons now - product testing must have been done by Kylie Minogue or someone similarly digitally challenged.
However, it's very nice, slightly chunky but worth it.
Use VJLumos and get a very bright screen as well.
I don't use 3G, but would certainly have bought it if I had access to web n walk - it's getting to the point where there's no point having these phones without an unlimited data contract.
Design is generally ok, although Vario II does come in menstrual colours.
Audio+mini usb is bad and unjustified.
I sorely miss VGA, and can't understand why they don't accelerate introduction of VGA screens across the line.
But generally, fast, good form, loud, bad buttons (on Orange 3100), does the job, best thing available right now from HTC that isn't Artemis or Trinity.
V
Its been a month using Vario II and I am completely satisified...had some emotional attachments with Jasjar but..then I had to go away with it..
bought Vario II from Uni...got SA after a week but wesbar trick fixed it..
The best cosmetic of all the hermes...Everythimng nows is prefect !!
found a bluetooth car stereo (Sony MEX-BT2500)
basically it can stream music and take calls over the car speakers from your vario.
i also use tomtom and wanted to know how many bluetooth connections the vario can handle at once.
thanks
At least two. As I can use my BT gps for TomTom & use a BT earpiece for making a call at the same time. I even don't notice a hickup in the gps connection after I disconnect the call, which always happened with my Magician.
Cheers, M
3 bluetooth connections

I have the MEX-BT5000 It can stream A2DP and at the same time be used for calls without any problems.
You ROM might not have the optimum stuff for A2DP as this has been known to be buggy as hell. What ROM are you running?
rom version = 1.21.110.3
You would benefit from updating to one of the WM6 cooked ROMs, the A2DP drivers and the BT stack ahs vastly improved since the ROM versions shipped in the devices.
You may find that A2DP skips and is crackly, also that the device might be a bit unstable (if you stick with the ROM you are currently using)
Can I have 2 sets of bluetooth headphones for me and my m8 to listen to music via the a2dp stream at the same time ?
I live in the country, and walk lots.. would be cool to have synced mp3's.
I dont know, but i doubt it. Thats alot of data streaming at once from such a device.
Only thing to do is give it a try.
I dont have any bluetooth headsets yet. would kinda be a expensive test.
I dont 100% understand how the bluetooth pairing system works, but I roughly get it.
Is there maybe a way to have headsets use the same channel/pairing id. the headsets dont need to send any info back, I just wish to recieve the music. which is allready being broadcast, it doesnt need to be broacast 2 times.
Maybe there are special headphones which can share the same id's ?
I dont know the technical terms to describe what I'm after. multiplexing? multistreaming? that didnt throw up any search answears..
The pairing procedure is indeed a 2 way process unfortunatly, thats how the Hermes knows when to quit piping sound over the speaker and microphone in the device.

ANY of the ones mentioned in my guide thread will do the job (see my sig).

I am selling my beloved HTC Universal, which has been a trustworthy companion even after I got my TyTN II. It served me well two times when my TyTN II had to go back for repairs; my Universal stayed reliable.
• It is a Qtek 9000, unlocked.
• It is currently flashed with Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM Update 2.12.08 WWE from XDA-developers. This is a WM 6.0 ROM, which runs well on the Universal.
• It operates flawlessly. This device has been a reliable companion for me for the last 2 years, and I wish I didn’t have to part with it. The screen has had a screen protector on it from day 1. The speakers are in excellent condition. All of the buttons and ports are in working order. This device is functionally as good as new.
• Battery life is still very good because I took good care of the battery. I am able to use the device a lot (20-30min talk time, moderate WiFi and GPRS usage, games, Word and Excel) and still have about a 10%-20% charge at the end of the day. This is great considering the screen is VGA. Your usage and results may vary.
• Since I’ve used this phone as my daily workhorse, the exterior does show signs of wear. There are scratches on the outside of the swiveling screen where the logo is. There are also some scratches around the sides and base of the device. These are purely cosmetic defects only and have no effect on the functionality of the device.
I am selling the Qtek 9000 with everything that originally came with it. The only thing missing are the headphones, but the Qtek 9000 has a 3.5 mm headphone jack that fits most standard headphones. I am also throwing in at no extra charge some extra aftermarket styluses (styli) that have an ink pen hidden inside. This is a great feature for when you forgot to bring a pen with you. I will also include at no extra charge a 2 GB SanDisk Ultra II SD card. Lastly, I will leave the Write Shield screen protector from PPCTechs on the screen since it is still in great condition. To recap, the following are included:
• Qtek 9000
• Quick Start Guide & User Manual
• Original Qtek WM 5.0 software CD + Application CD (GPRS monitor)
• AC Adapter with USA plug adapter
• USB to mini USB cable
• Battery
• OEM Leather case
• Original factory box
• 2 aftermarket styli with ink pen
• 2 GB SanDisk Ultra II SD card
• Write Shield screen protector (already applied to screen)
I also have a Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset that I will include at no extra charge if you like. The earbud is loose but could possibly be repaired. Other than that the headset is in perfect working condition and works well with the Qtek 9000.
The total value of the device + accessories when purchased new was about USD $1,300. I was originally selling this package for USD $250 + shipping. However, right now I will be willing to let this go for USD $199.95 + shipping. I will ship only to North America or the UK, and I can’t be responsible for any taxes or customs duties. Those will be paid by the buyer if there are any. I will accept Paypal (verified address) or postal money order only. No personal checks, please. I will also accept cash with local pickup only. I am located in Orange County, CA, USA. Lastly, because I am not a retailer, I am selling the device AS-IS with no warranties or returns. Again, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the device but I cannot offer any type of support.
Thank you for your interest in my (soon to be yours) Qtek 9000 and good luck with your new device!

Hi everyone, I rooted my x10 the week it was rooted and since that time have always had an issue with my alpine w505 head unit and the blue-tooth.
It works but i have to turn the volume all the way up on the car audio to just barley hear anyone.
I was not to concerned and figured it was just a glitch and was waiting for android 2.1. well with the delay and pending release of the android update I decided to update my x10 from 016 to 026. I did a clean install and thought my blue-tooth issue would be gone, well it it the same.
The alpine unit works fine with my wives nokia, but my x10 is horrible.
I can tell you that it worked great with the default rogers rom. which makes me believe that it's an issue with the packaged files I'm using.
I used the rom from post 4 in the android development thread. as i was going to try and just update. but I did have an issue and decided to do a clean upgrade.
Has anyone else had an issue with a car blue-tooth device? or does anyone have the alpine w505?
Thanks
You are lucky the bluetooth works at all.........................................
The prime reason for me wanting 2.1 is so that the SE flagship experia can do the things my 2007 K800i does..........................................................
ok is everyone having issue's with bluetooth and android 1.6? or is this a x10 issue?
I have a parrot CK3100 and everything works fine, i have to set the volume half the way because it sounds too loud.

I bet you can't voice dial and the phone book does not transfer though!
I have my xperia on xxxxx24 working in a fashion with a nokia kit. In the menu, you have an option to keep the lights on for development purpose. Say yes to this. Re boot phone, switch on Bluetooth, connect, stick in car charger and it doesn't disconnect while lights are on cos x10 don't sleep.....

I can confirm the X10i works flawlesly on the Bury C9060 too, and syncs phone book, also A2DP music works as it should, it never loses sync and bluetooth is available after approx 5 secs of starting the car.
You can also change tracks from the C9060 and voice dial is imo better than the parrot, I checked every device before going for the C9060.

I can't sync my phonebook on my jvc unit or look at the name of songs that are playing off my phone when I use bluetooth streaming. It works fine with the bold and iphone though

Here i am
This is how the Agenda looks when you sync a phone that it isn't able to transfer your contacts(my old LG viewty for example):
X10i linked with parrot, notice the icon located at the low right side, that means it is transfering your contacts:
This is how Agenda looks now:
Let's see if it works...
Yep, working
You can check Exif data to view time/date of the pics and the camera(x10i ), it links 5 seconds after i turn on the car, never disconnects, however i can't do AD2P since parrot CK3100 can't support it
OP-- this sounds stupid but it happened to me so check. The media volume for bluetooth is different from the media volume coming out of the speaker/headphones. Try turning up the volume on the phone.
