Hi,
I got the Wizard and since I've bought it I've been looking for some places to find software but no luck. I know some great channels on EFNET where I used to download software for my Nokia 6600 but no I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?
If you are looking for freeware try http://www.freewareppc.com/ it has quite a selection. MortButtons and TCPMP are two of my favorites.
If you are looking for commercial software try http://www.handango.com or http://www.pocketgear.com they have quite a variety of apps available.
If you are requesting for locations to acquire commercial software for free I would suggest going elsewhere. Most of the community at xda-developers, including myself, take a dim view of illegal copying of commercial software. I will assume that was not what you were requesting though, so the links above should get you started.
But of course. I'm not one of those guys who support the software piracy. And I do pay for every little tool I use once a month.

I've used just about all of these sites before with the exception of the above mentioned. If not, links to and from these sites. I've downloaded well into the hundreds of applications from these sites. In my experience, none of them offer fake freeware or neverending links to the download page (lmao). IMHO, they're all legit.

Wow, when I posted my first reply I did not realize the date this was created. I posted my reply about a week ago however...maybe beggining of September. Why the hell does the date of my reply state that it was posted 4-9-07? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has visited recently, if the thread is still alive, and now I'm wondering what date this was "Actually" created?!?!

4 September 2007. Not all countries use the US date convention of putting the month first.

Now some specific apps I am looking for.
Net Stumbler, its a program to scan for wireless access points.
A better dialer and call log app. I find the one that is built into the phone with Black Satin to be way to clumsy to use. I hate the fact that if I call the same number 4 times in a row, it shows that same number 4 times in the call log rather than just keeping the same number once at the top of the list. I would prefer it kept say the last 10 or 20 numbers I called in a row without repeating some of them.

Thx 4 the ups Capt.! I appreciate it! Umm...NetStumbler has its own SITE (click on the download tab). I'm not sure if you were looking for NetStumbler or MiniStumbler NetStumbler is for PCs and MiniStumbler is for SOME PPCs. Breathe eazy though homie, the program "works on most (but not all) Hermes...chipsets" . Good luck w/ that. Let us know how it works out.
Follow THIS site for all ur dialer needs. I'm not sure it will help ur "call log" issues though. Can't help you there fam. Good Luck!

Use WiFiFoFum instead of NetStumbler.
Ya the first program I tried was Ministumbler and it won't work on my Hermes (HTC Tytn) So I installed the WiFiFoFum and it worked perfect right out of the box. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
MiniStumbler is a Negative
Tried MiniStumbler on my ATT branded 8525 (factory ROM) and it does not work. Connected to Wi-Fi and nothing shows up in the App.

To be honest I have not had time to really read through the page, I did a quick browse around and at first glance there does not seem to be exactly what I am looking for, however I need to read through the site to really see what is there.

I don't really think there's an app that exists for the type of setup you want. I personally like that the call log lists every time that you called each #. If I'm not mistaken, WM6 approaches this situation quite differently. I'm not sure which ROM you're running, but you might wanna check that out. I didn't run WM6 long enough to remember exactly, but i found this on modernnomads pertaining to that feature:
"A major improvement is that the history belonging to a number can be retrieved. By pressing the number in the call-log you can get an overview of all calls to that number. THis is a great way to identify when you called a certain person. This information is also partially included in the contact: you will see when you last called a certain person. Unfortunatly there is no way of finding all calls to a specific contact, so you do have to remember which number you used to contact a specific person."

Actually you only have to remember the number if its not saved in your contact list. All call history is saved to the contact. If I go into contacts and select a specific person I can see all the calls to that person time, date, and duration. I think WM6 is great what made you decide to remove it?
why i removed wm6
i had to remove my wm6 rom because im running vista home premium w/ mobile device center and only the black rom allowed me to sync and it wasnt my favorite. other wm6 roms wouldnt sync w/ my laptop. i would either have to sacrifice a not so favorite rom and be able to sync or use my favorite wm6 rom and not be able to sync. i decided to go back to wm5 until the official at&t wm6 rom was released. supposed to be out oct.5. dont get me wrong tho...i love wm6. each rom i flashed had pros and cons, but the pros of wm6 outweigh the cons. cant wait to get it back!

One of the most important things that makes iPhone appealing for the end-user is the famous Installer. Although jailbreaking your device is not something Apple wants you to do, everyone does it, and it was one of the main reasons that iPhone became so popular.
An end-user who wants goodies for his phone does not know how to search online for applications, choose the best, download, copy, and install... Installer saves you this hassle by providing a one-stop location to download (virtually) any application you might want, using the iPhone itself, making it extremely easy for the user.
Is there a similar application for WM? If not, can't we start it XDA-Developers and build a general public repository for freeware applications to promote the applications of developers here in the forums and contribute the WM software community? The application would have to be widely advertised and not just included in custom ROMs by default, so that people who don't know how to install custom ROMs can get a copy of this application easily.
This is a proposal to the developers to start a new application, not a request for an already available one. I don't have the required development skills for it.

Since the new 2.0 FW came out I have been using my iPhone again. I actually still prefer my Touch even with the new exchange support. The installer (app store and Cydia for now) on the iPhone is amazing. While I know how to install apps, think about the new WM user. If they had an installer program that could be downloaded and installed from a site (here?) and then have access to installing programs like S2U2, S2P, PCM Contacts, Keyboards, or even pay products like SPB MS, UL, etc. Potentially the program could also monitor for updates, so when A_C (the great!) comes out with a new update, the user would not need to be checking this forum and happen to see the thread with the update, it would be notified by the application on the device (when they launch the installer app). Skins could be available, the possibilities are endless - the iPhone has proven that.
As far as the application itself, I am no programmer, but it seems like it would be fairly easy to create a program that would look for a list of cab files on a website directory, download the list and allow the download and installation of the cab file. Yes, No?
I agree, this would be very useful. Currently I use Ubuntu Linux, and downloading and installing programs is this easy, because of repositories. I just search for a program using a package manager, and I'm given a list of programs that is relevant to my search. Then I simply have to click and install. I've seen this on the iPod touch, and it is very useful and quick

However, the approach is not logical as someone has proposed using a thread filtering algorithm instead of creating an actual repository.

I was looking for something similar since ages. However, the best bet I think (in terms of ease of development) would be to setup a ppc-friendly website with freeware cabs available. Ofcourse, not an ideal solution but should do the trick. How about something like an AppStore for ppc devices ?
A web site won't serve the purpose. There are several web sites out there already. A Windows Mobile application will make it completely different. It can serve as a UI for a cab manager (much like *nix apt-get or other package managers: Installer, Cydia, App Store). The point is reaching the end-user through the phone, not a web site, not the PC.

Well, even if someone managed to make such an app, in idea it would still be needing a working internet connection to download the cabs. So in a way it is as internet dependent as a website. However, I agree that such a software would be cool but difficult to develop.
Isn't one of the features of the installer app that users can add repositories from all over the place,but still have a unified interface at the end of the day? A website could not achieve that.

everyone can modify it and it has enough structure to make it as deep as folks want and search is built in.
and it can be quite fast on mobile if no graphics.
if I see itunes not wanting to start up every other week because there is another update, I'm going to simply uninstall it.
There is already an paa like this in our phones .. the MS version that does not do ****. if anything, all it would take is have it register the programs installed on the ppc, and have the ms version search for updates in the middle of the night while we sleep. the only thing though: the developers have to put a link for the updates in the about section. this would help MS update check those websites for updates, instead of having someone putt all the labor hours collecting cabs. the developers can do it them selves everytime they make an update just like posting it on a thread.
Unfortunately, MS does not have much on their website other than promotional advertising for their own product.
it will be hard work but very possible. considering all the custom roms out there, not many cabs can be installed with just a tap of the stylus. there will be dependency issues, memory issues, etc. but anyway, check out Device Update of CrC's roms for hermes. it's a small repo for his rom. cool, aint it?

Hi all, I know you can get some rss feeders that purport to download the entire article so you can read it all even offline, but I have not as yet found out how to get either Newsbreak (which I am not sure if it does) or SPB News (which does but I cant figure it out) to do this... can anyone please help me with easy to follow instructions so I can get the full article to read off line etc... thanks in advance...

I am using Spb News on my HD2. It is not (and by far) the best RSS reader out there but for a selected number of feeds, there are indeed "templates" which will fetch you the full articles instead of what would otherwise just look like a worthless bunch of tweets. Here is a short extract of the developer's documentation:
Templates in Spb Insight project are intended to download and parse web documents of different kind, mostly news sites. Since different web sites have very different page formatting, a template needs to be created for every site. A template contains information about the site and code to help parse content, clean it up from menus, advertisements and so on.
The template language was created with easiness, popularity and conformity to internet standards in mind. Wide-spread internet language Jscript (a.k.a. ECMAScript) was chosen as the basic language, wrapped with XML to enable metadata processing, such as channel names etc.
One template can contain definitions for multiple channels, as there are usually several channels on one site that has the same formatting and the parsing code for them should be shared.
Despite the recent release of the renamed v2.0 (from Insight to News) bringing next to nothing new, Spb has seemingly moved their resources away from this product so that the "channels" are no longer kept up-to-date. It is now essentially a matter of trial&error to find out those feeds from the online catalogue that still can return you the full articles, or, you program yourself a template. A third option is to use one of the user-contributed templates directly from the forum.
