PocketPC software - IRC, torrents, eMule? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
I got the Wizard and since I've bought it I've been looking for some places to find software but no luck. I know some great channels on EFNET where I used to download software for my Nokia 6600 but no I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?

If you are looking for freeware try http://www.freewareppc.com/ it has quite a selection. MortButtons and TCPMP are two of my favorites.
If you are looking for commercial software try http://www.handango.com or http://www.pocketgear.com they have quite a variety of apps available.
If you are requesting for locations to acquire commercial software for free I would suggest going elsewhere. Most of the community at xda-developers, including myself, take a dim view of illegal copying of commercial software. I will assume that was not what you were requesting though, so the links above should get you started.

But of course. I'm not one of those guys who support the software piracy. And I do pay for every little tool I use once a month.
Thanks fot the links

Software CDs

Would anyone be willing to put any XDA II software they have on CDs or Floppy Disks, or even on a website for me please? I'm willing to pay toward the costs, maybe could run a CD exchange program...fill a CD and I'll send you two blanks back lol
If anyone would be willing to do any of this could you email me on [email protected], leave details here or PM me on forum?
If anyone emailed my AOL email I'm sorry but that email no longer exists, please note new email above.
Thanks alot
Rob
BUMP
Are you looking or software specific to xda2 or any software for pocket pc that ill run on xda2?
IF you give me an FTP site, I would gladly upload you a bunch of PPC warez
this is not a site which is warez related !
warez lelated sites have p0rn popups all over the place this site
dont, so i cant be a warez site it's as simple as that
lol I don't have an FTP at the moment but will work on it.
I'm looking for any software compatible with the XDA2 basically, it doesn't have to be specific to it, just so long as it works on it

PPC Software
I'm just curious why you would not just do a Google search and download them yourself? I'm sure you are not advocating that people send you free copies of software that they paid their own hard-earned money to buy, so you must be talking about freeware and possibly shareware. Given that, you can just save all of that time waiting for the CDs to arrive and download them yourself!
Just a small tip: get eMule (www.emule-project.net) and search for anything you want (yes anything in this world you'll find it there, and FREE)
If you notice i didnt mention free at any point, in fact i offered to pay towards costs etc. Also, I did initially mean freeware. To be honest, I work long hours and I tend to find sifting through all the software out there looking for something that either works, works the way I want, or is decent; quite time consuming. It's usually evening by the time I get the chance and I was looking to save time, not necessarily money.
And thanks for the tip
Rob

it's the same thing as asking about software that is compatible with something like a hp pc
all pc software would work if the os is right
it's the same with a xda2 all software which is compatible with windows ce will work well sure some dont but that is more because of other issues
so all pocketpc software will run on your xda2 since 10000's of programs have been writen for that platform you cant fit it on just 1 cd

Where is the Best Place to Find a list of APPS

Where are the places people are going to find lists of Free Apps.
I am new to the Pocket PC world, I have seen a few posts with people showing new apps, but I would like to be able to browse around and find some that are suited for what I use my phone for.
Looking for Time Wasters. (games)
Media Players (for Divx, and Compressed Videos)
Anything Automotive Related
Skins for changing appearance of the phone
pm me man ill help you!!!
there should really be a sticky in this forum with links to good download sites for games / apps.
Maybe we should start a thread and post links and ask a mod to sticky it. Anyone up for the job ?
RTFW
There is a big list of software in the WiKi
On A Silver Platter
It doesn't get any better than this :
1) This site is 8525 specific FREEWARE
2) These are links from bypaul.com:
A. GAMES
B. THEMES & SKINS
C. UTILITIES
3) Another FREEWARE site
4) More FREEWARE
5) This page has all the FREE applications iliumsoft offers (7 Pocket PC, 1 Desktop)
6) Yet another FREEWARE site
7) This is the Pocket PC section of this site, but you can navigate to other platform specific applications by clicking on the "Freeware" link at the top of the page. The entire site is strictly FREEWARE
8) This is a mobile/WAP SITE. It is completely formatted for a handheld web browser (small text, aligned left)
9) This is the last direct LINK to a freeware site i have mustered. I've just come across it for the first time and the server seems to be acting up so i can't speak for its reliability. It did work though
10) THIS is a search result from handango. All i did was select the 8525 as my device and "Sort by: Price:Low-High". The first 15 pages of this result gives you full applications with a $0.00 price tag. You may have to navigate a bit through the pages to find anything useful, but there are some pretty good apps in there. I would suggest going through the whole 15 pages so you don't miss anything.
11) This page is pocketpcmag.com's "BEST SITES" for WM PPCs. Scroll down to the "Downloads" section and you will find 46 links, many of them links to freeware sites. Even some of the links that don't say "(freeware)" have links to other Freeware sites on thier pages so you might wanna check them out too
12) Another LIST of PPC related sites with relevant Freeware site links
I've used just about all of these sites before with the exception of the above mentioned. If not, links to and from these sites. I've downloaded well into the hundreds of applications from these sites. In my experience, none of them offer fake freeware or neverending links to the download page (lmao). IMHO, they're all legit.
Still Alive?
Wow, when I posted my first reply I did not realize the date this was created. I posted my reply about a week ago however...maybe beggining of September. Why the hell does the date of my reply state that it was posted 4-9-07? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has visited recently, if the thread is still alive, and now I'm wondering what date this was "Actually" created?!?!

4 September 2007. Not all countries use the US date convention of putting the month first.
Try www.pxdxa.com for free cracked software!
You just have to register an thats it! Enjoy
@ Viktorx, Thanks for the link, however I believe the mods on here frown on posting warez links.
@g0dZpr1z0n3r WOW, That list is amazing, thank you. I wish there was a way for members to rate other members on this board you would get a huge "+" from me for that. (I am on another board where there is a member rating system and members can give a member a plus if they help them, or a negative if they see someone being nasty for no reason)
@ Everyone else. Thank you for all the other links, I am spending lots of time browsing the places. This site is a wonderful resource.
Now some specific apps I am looking for.
Net Stumbler, its a program to scan for wireless access points.
A better dialer and call log app. I find the one that is built into the phone with Black Satin to be way to clumsy to use. I hate the fact that if I call the same number 4 times in a row, it shows that same number 4 times in the call log rather than just keeping the same number once at the top of the list. I would prefer it kept say the last 10 or 20 numbers I called in a row without repeating some of them.

Thx 4 the ups Capt.! I appreciate it! Umm...NetStumbler has its own SITE (click on the download tab). I'm not sure if you were looking for NetStumbler or MiniStumbler NetStumbler is for PCs and MiniStumbler is for SOME PPCs. Breathe eazy though homie, the program "works on most (but not all) Hermes...chipsets" . Good luck w/ that. Let us know how it works out.
Follow THIS site for all ur dialer needs. I'm not sure it will help ur "call log" issues though. Can't help you there fam. Good Luck!

Use WiFiFoFum instead of NetStumbler.
Ya the first program I tried was Ministumbler and it won't work on my Hermes (HTC Tytn) So I installed the WiFiFoFum and it worked perfect right out of the box. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
MiniStumbler is a Negative
Tried MiniStumbler on my ATT branded 8525 (factory ROM) and it does not work. Connected to Wi-Fi and nothing shows up in the App.
@Capt: Find anything useful at zombienexus?

To be honest I have not had time to really read through the page, I did a quick browse around and at first glance there does not seem to be exactly what I am looking for, however I need to read through the site to really see what is there.

I don't really think there's an app that exists for the type of setup you want. I personally like that the call log lists every time that you called each #. If I'm not mistaken, WM6 approaches this situation quite differently. I'm not sure which ROM you're running, but you might wanna check that out. I didn't run WM6 long enough to remember exactly, but i found this on modernnomads pertaining to that feature:
"A major improvement is that the history belonging to a number can be retrieved. By pressing the number in the call-log you can get an overview of all calls to that number. THis is a great way to identify when you called a certain person. This information is also partially included in the contact: you will see when you last called a certain person. Unfortunatly there is no way of finding all calls to a specific contact, so you do have to remember which number you used to contact a specific person."
The article is HERE. It's a quite detailed article outlining the key features of WM6
Actually you only have to remember the number if its not saved in your contact list. All call history is saved to the contact. If I go into contacts and select a specific person I can see all the calls to that person time, date, and duration. I think WM6 is great what made you decide to remove it?
why i removed wm6
i had to remove my wm6 rom because im running vista home premium w/ mobile device center and only the black rom allowed me to sync and it wasnt my favorite. other wm6 roms wouldnt sync w/ my laptop. i would either have to sacrifice a not so favorite rom and be able to sync or use my favorite wm6 rom and not be able to sync. i decided to go back to wm5 until the official at&t wm6 rom was released. supposed to be out oct.5. dont get me wrong tho...i love wm6. each rom i flashed had pros and cons, but the pros of wm6 outweigh the cons. cant wait to get it back!
any sim games out there

YADA (Yet Another diamond Appstore)

Hi
I see a few threads of people developing an appstore alike program for the diamonds and other devices.
They all seem a lil bit too over the top. So, iv begun an online AppStore clone. No windows coding, no programs, just an online website, optimised for diamonds (to begin with) that lists apps by genre.
This way, developers can upload thier own apps, the website can host them, people can subscribe to the apps and recieve updates when the developer adds new files etc.
Iv even started playing with notifying subscribers via SMS when a new program becomes available from a developer.
As opera is so good, flick scrolling, fullscreen, etc, an optimised webpage should pretty much be able to do alot, if not all, of the things any windows program can do and would involve no installs and be very lightwieght..
So before, i go too far into this thing, id love to know your thoughts on this, is it worth developing further?
Hello
I think that having several projects around one theme is an excellent thing because it leads to better results.
So, yes, you should continue on your project. Good cheer !
look forward to seeing it if you carry on the project
Exactly whats needed.

HTC/Windows vesion of apple "App store"

Had a quick search, couldn't find anything, sorry if it's a repeat..
Anyway, I love my HD, it's a cracking bit of kit, but I'm finding the lack of support for many things (take flash player streaming on BBC over HDSPA for example) really quite frustrating, not least as the youtube app works so well - which leads me to the bigger picture.
Apple have the appstore for their i-phone, a place where you can find all the applets for the phone - surely HTC or Miscro$oft should be looking at something similar for their range of phones/OS?
Am I missing a trick here? Have I missed the HTC/WinMo equivalent?
I think you mean something like " Cydia " for the IPhone.

That would be cool. I thought about the same thing at the Weekend. Why should we not have a universal download Program for all the Freeware in our Windows Mobile based machine.
Free Cabs
I Think this can help not program but helpful

Thanks - nothing like leading the market eh Microsoft?
How long has windows mobile been a common smartphone/PDA operating system now?
There are loads of websites giving free CABs for all kinds of programmes. Because Windows Mobile doesn't have a central 'approval' thing like Apple do, anyone can write ANY kind of program for WM phones. Apple decide what makes it onto their phone and what doesn't, hence the need for their centralised AppStore.
Try this: www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi (from your mobile). Lots of good stuff

I am aware of the numerous places where the software is available, and long may that continue, as it means independent developers can continue their excellent work, but with the Apple model you have a 'one stop shop', accessible directly from a simple app on the phone that gives you simple access to many 'official' applets.
Whilst I'll always be looking at the independent sector, following the recommendations from places such as this site (and what an excellent resource it is!), there really needs to be a central, 'approved' market place for the mass-market apps, and so that developers can see a genuine, financially viable reason to develop for the platform, something that isn't really there at the moment in the fractured, unfocused model we currently have.
And how are developers going to benefit from being ripped off by a company like Apple or MS twice - once in the form of rubberstamping their work, and then in the form of a sales commission?

In the same way most companies do...
The point of the central depository is that people looking for apps look there, is it not?

Looking for Developers for Public Online Application Libary

Greetings all,
I'll cut right to the chase. I'm looking for a enthusiastic developer to help me develop an application for a 'iPhone' style app store.
I have some rough ideas on how to go about this, but im not completely in touch with the development of Windows Mobile Based applications.
The application will essentially connect to a hosted website of mine containing free / opensource / demo WM6 applications with the option to download and install to your phone.
I've thought of using a RSS style backbone for the application as i think it would be the easiest way to go about receiving updates from the website with links to .cab 's for download.
I'm aiming for this to be a free hosting service for aspiring developers to get their applications out there and easily accessable for others on their WM6 devices
The only thing i can really offer in return is credit on my application hosting page for the client software, and a agreed percentage of any revenue i may or may not receive in the future.
I am aware of the proposed one by MS but they are asking $99 for devs to post their applications on there, i would like for this to be a free alternative for poor devs.
Sorry for the long post, and any thoughts regarding this will be greatly appreciated! If anyone is further interested, provide your email and i can write up a more detailed explaination with diagrams.
**Edit: I've got a professional web developer who is a friend of mine on the Site side of things
I'll be keen to help out on the Web Side of things. Looks like M$ Apps is gonna be a failure.
Email me: 89jase<at>gmail<dot>com
Hope a few people get on board, sounds like a great idea!
Thanks Jase!
I thought no one here wanted to help. I'll be in touch with some further details.
Though i still need a someone to point me in the right direction with the client side of it. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Stop developing such things, that already exists...
scilor,
Not that im trying to be rude when i say this, but why?
It's something i want to do, you havn't inputed contructively so why bother at all?
Futhermore, i do not know of a solution such as this currently developed. So if this is the case, perhaps you could link me to it? That would be helpful.
