Everybody who is worrying about the market killing all of your space doesn't need to worry about it,I thought this was gonna just keep eating my memory and leave my phone with like 5 mb free but when it gets that low and you keep getting the low storage space message the phone takes care of it for you and deletes the market data with no problems. Here's what I did, I heard someone say this from this forum but I wasn't sure it would happen, I kept my phone at around 10mbs free after the market was about 22mbs of data then i got tired of it so I went on the browser and let the cache and data build up which I usually delete to keep free memory,I got the low storage space message but just ignored it,then I went on youtube and let that data build up without deleting it kept getting the message and then just like that, the market data dissapeared and I had 30 mbs of data free. Then about a hour later I had my phone charging and I went to use it and it froze and rebooted itself, and when I went to go check the memory i now had 47 mbs free with none of my programs or anything deleted and it's been good since then. This is such a releif for me,I hope this gives other people hope too
That is good to know. This should be fixed and more seamless. Instead of a warning that you have low memory, it should just whack worthless data first without having the constant warnings.
Agreed. I'm also hoping for better process management in the next update too.
....why don't you just reboot the phone periodically to completely wipe all the background apps. Hold Green (call) Red (power) and Menu buttons at once... simulates a Ctrl Alt Del
The phone shouldn't need rebooting.

Just about every electronic device benefits from the occasional reboot. Caches fill up, memory leaks get out of control, programs attach to shared memory and never completely release it, etc. I'd probably just long-press the hangup button instead of doing a force reboot, although I have found mine seems to crash after 15-20 days of continuous operation so I haven't had to intentionally reboot since I've had it.
phone crashed in browser, completely froze up, i restarted by holding power button down, once it restarted i get a red disk symbol in notification about database storage low and device managment keeps force closing then logs provider keeps force closing.
cant do a thing on the phone, have restarted numerous times..dont know what todo.
i am on JF5 and rooted.
update:
ok hard reset and this has fixed the issue, but would be good to know if anyone else has seen this error, the last app i installed before crash was SEEPU free version, just kept getting constant cycle force closes of logs provider and device managment as mentioned.
PLEASE HELP!
My Vzw G2 home key lags, I press it, and sometimes it stays pressed, then it goes to my home screen, when I try to open recent apps, I almost have to hold it down for 5 seconds for the window to appear. I woke up this morning, checked my storage and it said 455mb free (originally I had 19gb free) then I cleared cache, the cache said something like 19gb+. Got my storage back, but I just checked again a while ago and my cache was at 2.5gb.
I'm fairly new to rooting and such, but anyways, last night, my phone was absolutely fine, but my battery seemed to be dieing on its own, so I decided to "recalibrate" it by killing it completely and fully charging it, so I killed the phone, and put it to charge when I went to bed, woke up 5 hours later, and it was at 66% shut it off, started charging it, went back to sleep, woke up in 2 hours and was at 98%, then I waited for a bit for it to reach 100%, that fixed the problem, it charges normally now and dies as fast as it used to. So I unlocked the phone, and started using it, and I notice my home key is extremely laggy, I press it, it stays pressed, then goes to the home screen 3-5 seconds later, it does it frequently, the pressing animation for it seem to lose frame rate too, all other nav bar keys are fine. Then I check my storage, and It says 455mb availible, I originally had 19gb the day before, my cache was at 19gb+ so I cleared it, and then 7 hours later, the cache is at 2.5gigs again. So I cleared it just 20 minutes ago, and its at 610mb now. Does anyone know what's going on? Please help me, these problems literally came overnight, the day before I hadn't installed any tweaks besides xstana to mod my nav bar, which didn't cause any kind of lag for the 8-9 hours I used it. Another thing it was doing this morning was that it does is that it keeps underclocking itself to 1.9 or 1.7ghz, why does it keep doing that? Does anyone have any idea on what to do? What would you do? PLEASE HELP I've been trouble shooting this all day and haven't been able to find a similar thread.
How many backups did you make? The nav mod is probably causing your lag.

Backups of what? Doesn't really matter though I haven't made any back ups of anything.
Also I removed the nav bar mod several times, it still lags.
Fixed (kinda)
So I gave up and just reset my phone. I just finished setting up the entire phone again with all the mods/tweaks I had before, and everything works now, cache doesn't seem to fill up on it's own anymore, battery life is still normal, home keys are responsive again, BUT it still keeps underlocking itself to 1.9 or 1.7ghz, anyone have any idea what's going on? I had a fix for it earlier with an app that would set my cpu freq one every boot up but that doesn't seem to work anymore. I think I'm gunna leave this thread up because I haven't seen any other threads on cache filling, and home key unresponsiveness.
Edit: I take that back, the cache data is still filling my storage, I just cleared 10gb of cache data. Can someone PLEASE tell me why this happens? Or if there is some way to set a limit to cache data?
Since days ago, my s8 has been randomly restarting throughout the day. Yesterday it started going off and will not turn on unless I do force restart (Vol down + Pwr). I have tried restarting in Safe mode, Clearing cache Partition and I even did a total factory reset.
This morning the Iris sensor even stopped working. Please what do I do?

Try giving your phone an update via odin.

from my prior experience (have not had this happened to me on this device - yet), but this typically has occurred when the RAM gets overloaded. this can be caused when you have too many applications running at once (background syncing, notifications, etc.).
i'd suggest installing greenify - as that helps hibernate some of those apps that tend to constantly run when you don't need it. also, try going to settings -> device maintenance and pressing the "optimize now" button - that should help clear some of the noise.
good luck.

I just tried installing Greenify. I am really not a heavy phone user. Just whatsapp, mails and browsing on chrome 90% of the time. The phone just restarted on its own again now.

are you showing any notifications prior to it rebooting? sometimes the phone will do that if there is a software update.
go to the settings -> system updates -> check for system updates (do this while on WiFi)
if there is a new update, it's probably rebooting.
not sure if your phone is rooted, but if so, then it won't be able to make those updates. if not rooted (which is what i suspect), then it should take.
if no updates, then I would examine which apps are running in the background by going back to the Device Maintenance setting.

Sad to hear this. Some pointers if it could help you.
- Do you know what is the last operation you did just before this problem started ? Was it an update ?
- Does the restart become less frequent after you wipe the cache ?
- Is it heating up just before the restart happens ?
- Dial *#0*# .. and check for IRIS Scanner and other sensors and see if all is ok.
If you are on warranty, Take it to the service center ASAP.
Regarding Updates, Please do it only via Smart Switch
OR
Take it to the service center and ask them to update it. They should charge you a mere 4$ equivalent if not in warranty
Hi guys,
A very similar problem happened to me. Thursday morning my phone restarted itself and got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S8 boot screen. Despite holding bixby, volume up and power it won't boot into recovery mode. I can get it into download mode but despite following some guides on here I was unsuccessful at attempting to update/re-flash through Odin. It failed each time.
I'm about resigned to taking it into the Samsung store but wondered if you guys would have any further advice? FRP and OEM lock are on, unfortunately I'm not sure how to turn them off when the phone wont boot.
Kind regards,
Daz
