I heard a little clank - XPERIA X1 General

Hello,
today I recognized the frist time, that there is a little clank when I shake the phone a littlebit. Is this normal? This is the first time I heard it.
Greetings
Pluppi

yeah, have that too...seems to come from that optical joystick which has little play

Thanks for your post. But if I hold the stick and shake it, it also clanks. If you phone and you are going i think that is a littlebit disturbing.

Don't worry about it, I seemed to have been the first person who asked this on another forum and quite a few people replied back saying they had the same.
Someone even rang SE and asked them, they said it is perfectly normal. Though no explanation as to what it is. I thought it was more of a rattle than a clank.

The sound is comming from two plastic wheel barrels. These two plastic wheel barrels are located in the slider function for the Display.

Might be able to see what it is in these videos:

upper part is shaky when keyboard is opened. Normal?

The part where the display is becomes shaky a bit when you slide open the keyboard
Is that something that I should be concerned about or is it normal?
I think it's normal. I've examined four X1a's and they all had a small amount of play in the top part of the slider when open.
Mine has also a slight play to it (back and forth). Noticed this on the Raphael as well.
Keep in mind though, that the slider is only supported by two metal hooks situated (when keyboard out) at one end of the screen. So guess it's normal.
The play will also increase as the phone gets older (wear and tear). As long as the screen doesn't fall off I guess it's ok.
To prolong the life though, I try to be gentle when opening and support the screen when it's open (to reduce the wear and tear).
Mine's shaky when closed. Went to the service centre thrice and everytime they said it was normal.
Mine is a bit shaky as well. even when closed, but afer giving it some thought, i guess it impossible to make it totaly solid, at least with this form. i annoyes me, though. pressing the keys and you feel how it bends a little. when opened, I am afraid to press the little x or soething else on top of the screen, at least without supporting the lower side with my other hand.

I support it when open, cause it's impossible to make it solid (@least not in this form factor). It's easy enough for me though.. cause the phone fits in my palm so easy (and way easier than other phones I've had - But I do miss the tilting screen from Kaiser though..then again, that needed major support when tilted)
I am new to this board, hello everybody!
I have my X1 for a week now. On mine the top part is shaky when closed, it moves ~1mm up/down opposite of the slider hinges. Anyone else?
It annoys me, but I hope it is okay and won't get worse.
Greets and have Fun with Your X1s!
i think it's normal. I noticed that as soon as I took it out of the box and was very worried. it's my first slider phone and i didn't know what was normal and what was not. reading threads like this was very reassuring for me. I just hope it won't get loose, if it stays like that, then i'm happy.
It seems really solid to me. No movement at all unless I push on it. I’m guessing it will loosen up over time.
same here, closed and opened. When I press gently in opposite corners when closed, it waggles slightly. I got annoyed/worried about this after purchasing the phone few months ago and went to the store to ask about it. I got to test three different X1s and they were all similar, so it's not a problem (or at least it's by the design
A bit annoying still though, especially when using touchscreen with your fingers. Mostly when pressing on the right side of the screen (down-right being the worst), it waggles slightly under your fingers.
Same here too. About 1mm up and down when closed, and when open, same.
And yes Jent, it does waggle a bit. Try using the phone when you're lying in bed, and hold the phone upside down... every press will move the screen about 1mm and it gets annoying very quickly.
i also have the problem with the upper corner^^

Sound when shaking the X1?!

Greetings All,
this is my first windows mobile device ever (although i'm a .Net Developer)
i noticed one strange thing in my X1, whenever i shake the mobile i hear a sound like there is something inside the device (upper side) moving freely!
does anyone else have the same thing? or should i return the device for replacement?
Also mine!
And also other three device that I check.
So I think it's normal.
Herard that as well...but it was reportet only if you hold your X1 vlosely to your ear...
What you hear might be the vibrator.
All the X1's have it, I was also worried when I received mine and made a thread. Haven't found/spoke to one person who hasn't got it yet. One person rang them up and asked if it was supposed to be like that and was told it is, but still no idea why.
As previously said it could be the vibrator.
Well, ok then! but i wonder where it's comming from.
i will check it out when i open the device. but i don't want to void my warranty so soon
I think it's the optical joystick. Hold the phone upside down and listen.
The vibrator is placed in the opposite corner.
Hi.
I confirm, on mine, the sound comes from the optical joystick.
mine has it too, but it's not the optical joystick.
maybe an accelerometer?
no accelerometer. everyone has it i think. no need to worry.
nope, not the optical joystick.
im not worried about it any more.
I guess no one should be. the good thing is that time will reveal the truth about this.
if I came to know anything about this I will immediately post it here.
looooooooool
your "scary" sounds is from volume keys and camera button Take in hand blocking them and you can't ear anything (at least, on my device )
no camera or volume keys. It is from inside.
Anyway, it sounds like an orientation sensor, not necessarily an accelerometer, but who knows?
HTC did it, so it might be there waiting to be activated from drivers )))
Maybe SE has an Xmas surprise for us )))
I find it slightly irritating, as when I have the phone in a car holder it vibrates and makes an annoying rattling sound. I daren't open the phone up to find it, so I guess I'll just have to be irritated...

yeah, that's what I think it is.
all gadgets I have that do a similar sound, have a g-sensor inside...
let's hope the update comes soon, as we are with a really "beta" firmware currently :_>
No boy.
It's a simple noise. If you press the upper and bottom part (display and keyb) you can hear no sound.

i tried everything, but the sound didn't go away, until i saw your post!
yes, it's not there anymore!!!! but when you stop pressing, it comes back!
Yes, mine is exactly the same Got to be from the slider mechanism. Anyone got some pictures of it?
No need to worry....the first day i when i recived my x1 i also shaked it the whole day. But then I read in a german forum that this is the gearwheel of the slider...everyone in that forum also said that he had that ticking noise.
BUT
I have another problem with the slider. When I use the touchscreen (especially in the right upper corner) the screen drawback a bit and its like pushing a button because when i release the pressure it makes a little tick. i think this has to do with the mounting of the slider.
Greetings

was at the service centre .. for other issues too.. they told me the rattle function is just the loose keys.. i got owned ! lol

Annoying Auto LCD Turn Off While Making Call

Hi all, I absolutely love the HD2. However, I find one really annoying problem about the "auto LCD shut off between dialing and after a call is connected, and this has been really driving me crazy! I'm not sure why no one has mentioned about this, is it because it is my problem of mis-using it or no one has bothered to voice it up?? I apologized if this has been posted but I couldn't find one solution so far.
It is about the auto LCD shut off sensor feature while making a call. My English is not that good, my mother tongue is Chinese, I will try my best to describe the problem written in English. I've tried so many cooked roms, all have the same old frustrating issue. After when I've dialed a number, as most ppl do, I will put the phone near my ear while waiting for the call to get connected. However, in the process while making the call while the phone is near my ear, the LCD will shut off by itself, and when a call is connected, the annoying issue will occur! When a call is connected, the LCD will turn back on by itself even though the phone is still in tack with the ear, as a result, part of our face will make contact on the screen and very often pressing one of the on-screen buttons! Also, it is not only this problem will happen after a call is connected, during a process of calling or during a conversation, if there is a notification prompted out, for example, a sms have been received, or a email has been received or low battery notification, the LCD will always turn back on and make the face accidentally press on one of the on-screen button, this is really annoying, is there a solution to let the sensor shut off the LCD for good until the phone has really get away from the ear and the face???
It's not a problem
It's an advantage
HTC did that to prevent you from touching anything with your ear and you cheek and maybe without this you could end the call accidentally or lunching apps so and so .....
Some people have found that this happens when their screen protector is too close or covering the sensor. Cutting away a small ammount of the screen protector to make sure it doesn't interfere with the sensor seems to be the answer.
Not sure you have read his question correctly - it turns off when he puts it to his head, which he wants, but then it turns back on again when the call connects.
I have the same problem, (incidentally had the same problem with a Diamond and Omnia II with Tachi phone canvas). Only solution was to breifly move it away from your head and back again, which I just got used to.
No idea how to solve it though. Sorry.
[APP] Proximity Sensor for Screen Off v0.2
Maybe you should look for this little app, it could work for you.
I can't post links, so make a search inside xda, there's a topic with that title.....

screen has clicking sound when pressed hard!! >:(

This is my second replacement phone and when i pulled up to fed ex to drop off the old phone I noticed the screen had a clicking sound when i press on the lower bottom right of it and at the top, i am pissed off, anyone else having this issue? again I have to wait for them to receive my old phone do there little test, then send out third replacement phone .all while my credit card is being charged, uggggghh
tell me how often during regular use of your phone do you go around pressing the screen so hard it clicks? some of the things some of you folks "test" with your phones are a little ridiculous. dude! it makes a clicking sound when I stand on it with my left foot,[email protected]()*@)(!!!
apparently this is a normal feature, after some concerns, I contacted HTC and this is how they responded;
"This issue its not common in the nexus one, some device maybe the can acuumlate dust under the screen but so far there is no device repair yet with dust under the screen. The clicking noise is a normal sound when you press the device but if you think this is not correct to the device you can contact us and speak with the agent reg your issue".
"This is not manufacture fault but if you press very hard then you will hear some clicking sound. If the device is showing some fault with the case or with the screen please contact us to repair or swap the device with the HTC repair center.
Please contact us as soon as possible to book in your device".

Before going on a rampage, why don't you stop acting like a child and try searching. Your "problem" has been covered ad nauseum...especially in my two month old thread regarding dust under the screen. I've covered how to fix it there.

and explain to me again how or why you would press a touch sensitive button so hard it clicks?
can someone lock this or delete it? it's a dupe topic and the creator obviously doesn't care based on the response he gave to the person who pointed it out.

Seconded. The funniest part is that if he had simply bothered searching like a big boy, he'd have fixed his screen within 5 minutes.

proximity sensor

I am 100% stock no fooling around yet (hotspot is my must have) surprisingly it works right from Sprint store! I have an issue with my cheekbone hitting the mute button 75%of time I answer calls. Took me a while to figure it out. I thought it was a phone issue initially till I noticed it was white which means on. Any thought on solution? Sucks having to be aware of it ever time I answer now, instead of just you know the thing going dark a moment before contact is made! Thx for reading hopefully

I thought I was the only one with this issue haha
I had it with my oneplus 3T as well.
This might not be the issue in your case but I found I just hold the phone oddly under normal circumstances.
I diddnt realize it but I hold it a bit off center on my left ear causing the proximity sensor to miss me.
this turns the screen on and like you I end up muting it most of the time.
I figured it out by taking it off my ear while on a call and using my hand to cover the sensor. (it turned off the screen right away as it should)
then I just experimented with placement until I realized what was happening.
it diddnt happen with other phones I had but I realized they all had smaller screens so it wasn't as easy to hold them off center without noticing.
I found I can consciously move the phone center and see the screen go off out of the corner of my eye.
unfortunately that's a bit more focus than I like to put on it so I usually just end up hitting the power button while on a call which turns off the screen and it wont come back on until you manually turn it back on.
on a side note I used to have a cheap nokia windows phone that was inexpensive enough they did without the proximity sensor.
Instead they had it so when a large enough area of the screen was touched it would turn off.
single touches kept the screen on so you can still pull it away and mute or put it on speaker etc.
I kinda wish more companies would do that instead of the proximity sensor, but I think I'm in the minority as you are the only other person I've heard say they have that issue as well.
Ha, I'm not alone! Thanks for the tip, I will do some fooling around and see if maybe I'm holding at funny angle. I have been rooting since my first smartphone (HTC Evo 3d) for hotspot consequently. Seems even back then, especially on HTC phones the proximity sensor was a problem so I'm surprised I was clueless for as long as I was. That was a total bug tho. I would be talking to someone and open 4 apps and turn on airplane mode, take a screenshot, I even composed an email of gibberish and sent it to my son because the screen would not shut off Who knows, it was less than optimal. This is not a bug it seems either as you astutely pointed out I may be bringing it to my ear oddly enough to hit it before the sensor senses, ha. OR it is a hair slow. Who knows could be worse I could have a Samsung or Apple HA!
