Port X1 RDS Radio software to other device? - XPERIA X1 General

Hi!
Would it be possible to rip out the RDS radio software and port it to other devices with other screen resolutions? The HTC radio applications which is shipped with all the HTC devices with RDS radio lacks the RDS Alternative Frequency (AF) functions. This means that the radio will not stick to the channel you are listening to when entering an area with a different frequency for the same channel. The RDS radio software in the X1 has the AF functionality, so that's the reason for the question.
If someone can just rip the software I would guess that there are many people here at XDA that could help with the port to other devices and other screen resolutions.
Regards,
PK

hmmmm it would be awesome then, because the radio in x1 is a panel, if it can be ripped then it would mean that it will be able to be installed as a program in x1 itself rather than a panel

Touch HD also has an RDS radio and it doesnt have panels, so i guess its a program

FM Radio Please,,,

I'm sure i've spotted within another thread a picture of the board inside the artemis and trinity which basically showed them to be v similar... and an fm chip on the trinity board.
i'm going to be getting a trinity - probably the m700 when it hits the shops in london - but don't understand this fm radio thing (it would complete the product!)
does the dopod model not have fm radio on it's variant? if so, surely all trinity's do, no? is a variant not all about branding and software as opposed to the actual tecky stuff inside?
also, supposing the trinity doesn't have this fm chip... can we not get a plug which has the tuner on it then we just install some kind of software? - i'm thinking of these ipod remote controllers which give an ipod radio functionality.
great to see the gps problem solved - even if by way of leaked room - but lets finalise the trinity with an fm radio too!!
Sorry dude, no FM radio
Don't know about the plug, don't think it exists
official statement of HTC after question for FM Tuner:
That is correct with regard to GPS we are still awaiting an update to enable this on your device.
The P3600 does not have an FM receiver. There is one in the P3300.

FM Radio For Gene.

Hi Guys,
New to the world of pda phones - using my first one now, so excuse if this sounds like a silly question.
I would like to know is it possible to adapt the Radio ROM of a Gene to act as a FM Radio receiver???
How come there are pda phones with FM Radios built into them?
Seen forums recommending SDIO card add-ons for FM radio applications, but thts an accessory.
I would like to know if this can be done and if yes how pls
fm radio is analog signals around 100Mhz cellphones recieves digital signals around 800Mhz->1900Mhz software cant change that....

2 Qs: home screen tabs and fm transmitter

Phone Details
Have the HTC HD2 Leo (iphone 3gs convert (well nearly))
UK generic using on O2
Manilla: 2.5
rom: 1.48
radio version: 2.05
Hi i'd be grateful if anyone could answer one or both of my Q's, thanks:
1. Home screen tabs
Question: can programs be added to the home screen tabs.
I wanted to know if it was possible to extend the number of home screen tabs to the ones that already exist - home, mail, messages, internet, calender, [my program] etc. I'm aware that these can be personalised and removed but dont know how to add to them. Is this possible? Is there a reg tweak, cab to enable this. Couldnt find any so far. Already using the kindly provided tweak from Vovichek_Jamrecords to enable 16 quick links but wanted to add extra home screen tabs.
2. FM transmitter
Question: Does the HTC HD 2 Leo have the ability to transmit fm signals. Does it have a transmitter ability.
I wanted to be able to send music to my car radio without the use of a 3rd party bolt on fm transmitter. I am unable to use bluetooth and have no other way to connect to stereo. I dont want to replace it. Thanks.
The HD2 Leo has the ability to receive fm radio (via headphones) obvioulsy and wondered if its chip can be enabled to transmit. Is there an app, tweak available. Or is it a hardware question meaning the phone simply cant do it. If so can anyone suggest a bolt on micro usb powered fm transmitter. I have a bolt on transmitter for the iphone and wondered if equivalent could be available for the HTC
Thanks. Seb.
Note:
I have had the the Leo for a few weeks now. The main attraction is its great screen and openess to tweaks etc (despite apples jailbreak community). Being v new to the windows mob platform I'm struggling a little but I am liking it. There are many things that i am missing about the iphones OS (its much better suited for the simpleton). Its OS just seems much smoother and rounded. I'm sure everyone is aware of WM6.5 deficiencies. Apps just seem much more tailored to the apple. Well I guess Apple control the hardware and software etc and so is to be expected. Will keep perservering with the HTC however. If it just had a front facing camera (not that the apple does) then that would have clenched it. Also keyboard - no matter what cabs, tweaks i try its just not as good as the iphone. I hope WM7 that i hear is coming will be that much better. There's plenty of info about the phones on this forum and others and so wont get into the iphone v htc debate. However, comparison is unavoidable!
There is no answer?
I want to use FM Transmitter on HD2.
The HD2 does not have an FM transmitter.
You could try the Motorola T505 that takes a Bluetooth A2DP stereo signal from the phone and acts as a BT Handsfree, but it also retransmits the music as an FM signal.

Answer to question 2: NO
you can buy fm transmitters that take the output from your 3.5 stereo socket dirt cheap nowadays.I have seen them for a tenner on my local market though I would be a little wary of the signalquality. this has the added benefit of working with anything with a standard earphone output.I have never seen a micro usb transmitter.

FM Radio?

Has anyone been able to find out if the PRO has a radio in it like the X and D2?
http://androidcommunity.com/activate-the-droid-2’s-fm-radio-yes-it-has-one-20100927/
Common sites say Yes for FM Radio, but after I checked pdadb.net and motorola's developer site for Droid Pro specs - both the sites do NOT indicated FM Radio.
Now it all remains on someone who's bought the device and can let us know.
I own a Moto Pro
How can I check? (Without opening it or voiding my warrany)

Just plug in your headset and look for the FM Radio app in Menu. If it exists then Yes there is a FM Radio if NOT we have the answers.
FM Radio within TI wlan/bluetooth chipset
Hi Droid Pro Users!
There is a light in the dark for FM Radio fans.
I just found this info from TI about the on board chipset TI 1271
----------------
There are four solutions in the WiLink 6.0 product
offering. The WL1271 supports 802.11b/g/n in
the 2.4-GHz band, while the WL1273 supports
802.11a/b/g/n with 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz band
support. Both single-chip solutions support
Bluetooth 2.1 Release, ANT and FM transmit and
receive. The WL1271/3L support in addition to
the above, Bluetooth Low Energy Specification
4.0 + EDR.
---------
You will find all info here:
focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12762&contentId=29993&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=ProductBulletin+OT+wilink_6
That means the Droid Pro hardware is able to receive FM Radio and maybe also to send, but receiving would be good enough for me.
Now... who is able to build the necessary drivers?
I would love to do it but I have no idea how ;-)
Maik
Very interesting indeed!
When/if built the software and drivers would be brilliant. Maybe moto can do it if requested by many of us?
In the meantime I use tunein radio app from market, which works well using my data connection, network or wifi.
Sent from my DROID PRO using XDA App
I could bet that Motorla don't care about it.
As far as my experience with Moto is...
- they know that the chip is able to do it.
- they thought they can make it work
Result...
- maybe reception is too bad because of design flaws (chip or antenna position) -> they decided not to offer it
- maybe the marketing gang thought a FM radio is nothing for a business phone...
Anyway... I would take it even with a bad reception, but I'm sure they will not offer it.
An internet radio is not allways a good solution. You need an unlimited data plan and also a good reception. I made bad experiences during train travel and also in areas with lower reception. It sucks...
I want a real radio, please
If the transistor which taks care for FM radio is phisicaly connected, so that can use headphones as the anttena, then it is possible to have FM radio on your phone. Here is some new stuff that XDA user mikereidis have discovered about TI WL 127x chip. Maybe some developer is interested.

[Q] Anyone have FM radio working on Blackstone Android?

I was wondering, if anyone has spotted a build/kernel/... with FM radio working?
Especially with finally getting stutter-free sound, a working FM radio app is (for me at least) the only important feature missing from our Blackstone Android builds!
(for example, currently running XDANDROID 2.2.1 AOSP FRX04, no FM radio app to be found...)
I searched a lot, have tried ~10 different builds from XDA and Neopeek over the last month, but no result.
If anyone can point me to what I'm missing, I'd be grateful...
Cheers,
Robbert

XDANDROID 2.2.1 AOSP FRX04 on blackstone (690 MHz), viruscrazy test kernel for audiostuttering fix and camera (3Mpix) test.
There are very few Android phones with built-in FM reciver and AFAIK they all have FM Radio App that is device specific. I don't know if it's even possible to port something like that.

I was just hoping that it would be possible, since over at the Leo threads, all build/roms seem to have FM radio working, but maybe their app was ported from android device with similar FM chipset?
Our radio seems to be BRF6350 Chipset, other devices with the same chipset:
BRF6350 Chipset:
HTC Diamond, HTC Raphael (not CDMA), HTC Polaris, HTC Topaz, SE Xperia X1
(hero, touch pro, tattoo are also found when googling BRF6350)
Could be interesting to look into?

Could we find the apk for the FM radio of any of the above devices? I could run some tests and see if we come into something

Yeah, was also my first thought, but so far I could not find SD builds/Roms which included radio in any of the threads for those devices, basically Android development for the Leo appears to be in a class of it's own...
On a side note, it seems everyone just streams internet radio, and does not mind lacking FM radio...
Since I currently do not have a data package (always within reach of WIFI at home or at work), I kind of wanted radio for the short trip to work on my bike where WIFI coverage appears to be lacking
(also, in the end, FM traffic information would be nice to have in "offline" route navigation, as I have it now on WM)
I'll look further and report back if I find something of interest, maybe I'll politely bother the guys at the Leo thread
Cheers,
Robbert
I'm in the same situation XD Also I thought of TMC too, IGo8 in WM with it is great.
I'll see if I can find something

Not the same chip though, but I'll have to start with something. BTW, it seems that it needs to be installed via ADB or els it doesn't work. I'll do some tests today.
Edit: 2 problems: Seems they are for Sense UI and need kernel FM support. Hm...
I'm not getting anywhere. Radio FM is supported via Bluetooth chipset.
I'm investigating the htc fm code...
FM radio needs kernel AND android framework support. So you will need: kernel driver, system support for this driver and FM App that uses both. Probably that's why nobody touched this yet. Too many changes since FM radio is not officially supported by google and every manufacturer does FM radio his own way. I'm not saying it's impossible - just not easy.
I've dl'd Cyanogen mod FM app source, let's see what I can do.
