Hello all,
I've tried searching for a text reader with bookmarking ability for the X1,
The only one I've found is uBook, but the site seems to be down for the past 3 days.
Does anyone know of any other reader software that can handle un-DRM'ed RTF files?
Thanks in advance.
Mobipocket Reader doesn't work on the X1? BTW: uBook is a very good e-book reader for the PPC. Sorry to hear that the site is down

Yeah, I installed mobipocket but unless i'm going daft, it wouldn't show the RTF files I have...I really don't want to go throught the effort of converting formats...so i'll probably wait till the uBook site is back up unless anyone else has an reader recommendation
There is a thread on the ubook forum:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ubook-official-support-forum/
Nobody knows why it is down. Potentially moving hosts (hopefully). An excellent ebook reader that I had on my Wizard. Was hoping to revive it on my Xperia...

it's better, but not that great either. very bloated and crashes often. is fast though.
i personally like Ansyr Primer, which is no longer sold. a little slow in rendering, but doesn't crash as often as the adobe and less memory hungry. you can also add annotations and bookmarks. it doesn't do tagged files like the adobe reader, which is one good things going for it.
I don't know why there is so little development in producing good pdf readers.
in any case, using pdfs a lot, i keep them all, and find them useful for different types of documents.
with Primer, you have to apply a vga aware patch, from something like tweaks 2k2, if you have a vga machine. I bought my copy a while ago. if nobody is selling it, i've checked and noted other sources do have it.
PocketXPDF
http://pocketxpdf.sourceforge.net/
I find it the best one.
Renders pages in real VGA.
best regards,

just for the record - the adobe ppc pdf reader sux.
it lasted 2 hours on my rig.
trying sourceforge jobbie now . . .
Try `foxit' pdf reader which has just released for ppc ,the evaluation purpose .( just reminds it and there no limit of days as i have neen using it for so many number of days) the best or the worst part is that it runs from itself , installs no files on windows folder . it is one single file(1.25 mb) transferred via active sync to the storage card then add to today screen via pocket plus and then through resco explre make it the default program to view pdf files

Use this one all the time.
Putting into full screen landscape allows half of a full page to be easily readable.
Only down side is the delay in waiting for the next page to load - hopefully this will be fixed in a later version
Matt
Hey matt.
you're only bloody right!
this is a good reader guys.
nice rendering, i think a little better than clearvue and certainly the pile of elephant turd that is the adobe reader - that was just embarrassing!

Steve

Many Many thanks
Many Many thanks
You are a life saver !
Steve
it takes bloody ages to load initially and the page load times is fairly crap but full screen and programmable h/ware buttons makes it kewl.
as i said before the rendering is pretty wicked too!
WOW!!!! Just installed PocketXPDF and it has got to be the best PPC PDF reader available. Rendering the pages does take a while but at least it is worth the wait.
Thanks for sharing that with us.
Adobe?
I tried my pdf book which has 2700 pages in my JASJAR with Adobe reader,it nicely tagged it for viewing in "reflow mode" (text wraps around to fit the screen) so that we need not scroll it horizontally even after zooming.
Wow! how nicely Adobe did it and I could read the book continously in reflow mode with zoom.I think NO Other pdf reader can do this.Even 'Repligo',I tried same book with Repligo pdf mobilizer, still no reflowing.
Adobe reader is the Best pdf reader without any doubt, but it has its own drawbacks like: Very bulky, freezes ur PPC if not used for sometime(after opening). No official compatibility for WM5 devices.
If the size of the file is small, any reader would do.But bigger files, reflow mode Adobe is jus Gr8!
Acrobat reader has been working great for me for the past two years.
it just depends on the following question:
- do you use a realVGA 'hack'?
if yes:
use acrobat reader
if no:
use pocketXPDF reader
because you really want VGA instead of qVGA. and reflow is a really big plus for acrobat imo

Yep...

RE
I believe non of the mentioned readers can do the followings completely
a) must have scrolling feature (available in Adobe Reader)
b) text and picture must be sharp (apply to all readers except Adobe)
c) small in size (definitely not for Adobe Reader)
Any?
Does anybody know of a good PDF reader that works on the X1, or Windows mobile in general?
Adobe Reader LE works fine.
I neglected to mention that I would prefer something free. I searched for adobe reader LE, and was directed from the adobe site to one where I could purchase the program for 15.00$. I didnt even see the X1 or Windows mobile listed as supported devices or platforms, but I'll take your word for it. So am I looking at the wrong thing or something, maybe?
If not, then I could still use another solution
huh? It's free from adobe....go here:

are there any better good performing free finger friendly pdf readers

Adobe Reader LE comes with the Xperia. Reformat your phone, you must have uninstalled it.

foxit is better than adobe on windows. haven't tried their mobile version though
double post
FoxIt is a great PDF reader, the only one I use. You have to pay, but worth it if you read regularly.

+1 foxit is awesome, best pdf reader on PC and WM.
I like Microsoft Reader and Mobipocket on the HD2.
Callibre on the PC works great for format conversion.
Microsoft's Reader is awful! Haven't tried Foxit or the others but the B&N one is pretty poor, and I use eReader.com's reader daily, does everything I want and more. Too bad they got bought by B&N, but they seem to still be operating. I wish B&N would spend some development $ on it's reader for PocketPC, it really stinks right now. Formatting is whacked, no themes, limited font support, and worst is that .epub format that nobody seems to support. Fortunately if you buy a book on B&N you can go to their web site and download it directly and get the .pdb version, which you can then open on eReader just dandy!

I'll give it a try.
What is the best format for ereader...Epub? (I see the pdb, but I cannot imagine that is the only format it takes)
ETA: I take it back. I see that Pdb is the format for this. Never used it.
The best reader I have found is Freda. It's free (I made a donation) and supports a bunch of formats. If you Google "decrypt B&N epub" you will find there are some ways to get Freda to read the encrypted files.

On the desktop PC, I agree. I use Foxit, much better than Adobe.
On the WM phone, I beg to differ. I haven't yet tried it on the HD2, but have on other WM devices, and did not like the mobile version of Foxit Reader.
I think the new version of Adobe Reader for WM, that we get for free on the HD2 (unlike past versions, and unlike the desktop version, this current version of Adobe Reader for WM is not free, they charge for it, yet we get it for free. Thanks HTC!), works quite well. I wouldn't change from it to use Foxit Reader on the HD2, although I certainly prefer Foxit on the desktop.
Freda for the reader
Calibre for the conversion software
After that, put it anywherre on your phone and point Freda to it. Calibre smoothly converts pdf files.
The new version of the B&N eReader is out! Downloading it now!
If you want to avoid the horrible download speeds from the direct download here's the URL it uses:
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/PResources/download/WinMo/BNeReader_1.1.0.22.CAB
After using it for a short time I can say it's way better, doesn't munge the database when you try to do multiple actions at once (multiple downloads, or download while it's syncing) but there are still issues, especially with themes. There doesn't seem to be a way to delete a theme you create, and when I created a white on black theme it looks like the text is all black background with white text but the rest of the page is still white! It looks awful!
Hopefully this means they have a developer working with them on this and it won't be the last version, it'll get more attention.
"New" B&N Reader Version Still Is Limited
Version 1.1.0.22 still will not recognize older PDB formatted books, and I can't get it to recognize any PDF files I load.
Hi, my main usage of folio is studying lots of manuals, so I need capability of search function and highliting written text. The best sw found till now is quickoffice, which has the search function but no highlights. I saw htc tablet (flyer) having it, but don't know where to find it. Any help or suggestions for a similar sw?
Thanks bye

My vote is also on RepliGO Reader for your purpose... I still use Adobe Reader mostly myself
I would recommend ezPDF reader, far the best pdf reader I ever seen on Android. You can add sticky- or hand drawn notes, and highlight, underline, or strike out words. Moreover it's very cheap.
Well, I find myself very comfortable with ezpdf, tks for helping
Hi Guys
I have been trying to get the reader to work on my PDA running 6.5 PDA and now running 6.1 with the great help from Tony Chef.
Before posting this i spent various hours looking up the problem on the net and reading here as well as trying factivation but nothing seems to work.
I successfully activate the reader and when I come to read purchased books it won't let me open the purchased books, only the downloaded ones. It either closes the reader programme down or says that my reader is not activated although it says it is at the bottom of the reader start up screen.. Can anyone either come up with a working solution or an alternative reader that can read micrsoft reader lit format files. I prefer to use reader as I find it alot better to use that adobe and other ones I have found but this problem is driving me mad!!! I am installed the latest reader for 6.1 and followed various instructions and hacks like factivation but nothing ever seems to solve it.
Thanks

you try to use Freda the free ebook reader, to download it go to http://www.turnipsoft.co.uk/freda/
Thanks for the reply, I can use reader for non DRM books but I have loads of books which I have bought which have DRM and the Freda software will not work with them, so back to square one, seems the only way is to get reader working unless I can remove the drm from the books
