All of a sudden, the contacts are gone, and I cannot get online...any one else....once more, I cannot remember how I synced my contacts in the first place....any advice..?
I have not had the contacts problem, but i am also suffering from not being able to go online. Specially when i have full signal.

That happend to me today too... all my contacts just vanished, my call log too. i just went into settings and synced it manually and they were back... still weird.
settings? how exactly? I went in and clicked on auto sync, and got a small message at the bottom of the screen: sync eexperiencing difficulty, will be back shortly..etc...it flashed really fast...wth?
My contacts are still there, but I haven't been able to get my data connection to work all day. I'm starting to get really annoyed about it. I've got phone and SMS, but nothing else.
Don't Panic
Log into your T-Mobile account, check your services... your data plan probably didn't get added back in when they did the switchover, mine wasn't back in this morning.
If it's not there, add it back in. Wait two hours, you should have service back by then. Worked for me.
They gave us all free unlimited data starting on or around launch date, and now they're trying to update our accounts with the correct data/sms packages. Everybody got their old data/sms packages wiped. More than likely yours didn't get fixed correctly. It's annoying, but easy to fix yourself.
Correct, as of today, the new bill cycle day, we are getting charged for the plan.
I actually called them and had them switch it this morning.
I'm sure you can add the plan online as well, don't try to pull a fast one by picking a different cheaper plan, i'm sure you will have more issues then peace of mind. lol

Same here.. my bill cycle has actually been the exact day I signed my first contract some 8-9 years ago. Weird. Everyone keeps saying the cycles start on the 1st of the month but mine never have LOL mine personally is on the 18th LOL
Same here, i even went so far as to do a hard reset. Rep told me deal lasted a week and there were hundreds of people who called in about it! lol good old t mobile!
The whole thing with the missing contacts happend again today, woke up and im missing the call list and contacts and favorites, the lists are just empty

i'm getting texts just fine but randomly it will decide to time stamp them 3 hours earlier, so if i have a bunch of texts i have to scroll through them all until i find the new one that it thinks was sent 3 hours ago. it is pretty annoying. anyone know how to fix this? soft reset didn't do anything.
it's often the networks fault when sms's are delay'd
i would try putting the sim in another phone for testing
same here
since yesterday ive been getting random texts with the timestamp 3 hrs earlier, and i also have to scroll thru to find it. my computer did something to the phone yesterday and basically deleted anything synced and then resynced. its been doing this ever since.
weird that we would get this same problem at the same time.
this is really annoying
Not to beat the horse but i've been having the same problem since this morning. Everything was fine all day and night yesterday. I've received about 8 texts or so since 8am EST this morning (it's now 2:20pm EST) and about 3 of the texts have had the problem. Pretty annoying. Assuming it's the network like someone previously suggested.
the person said the network was delivering them late. that has happened before too, but these are being delivered on time, but the time stamp is 3 hours before the text was sent. since 3 of us had the same problem starting yesterday or around then, it must have something to do with the network, even though the messages are being delivered on time, it is just the time stamp that is wrong.
weird.
yeah i thought it was something wrong with my particular phone but now since all three of us are having issues i feel "better".
hopefully t-mobile fixes this soon, its really annoying **crosses fingers**
Yeah, and the wierd thing is that it seems like it's only happening with specific contacts too. Looks like it's happening with only two people out of the 7 people that have texted me today.
yeah it's weird, but only 2 people have texted me today, and only one of them messed up, while both contacts messed up yesterday
this has also been happening to me, what phone service do you guys have, i have tmobile
I just thought my phone took a crap. but with the above posts I guess it was the network. mms are always late but this is a first for sms. tmobile needs serious improvement on their network issues
Maybe the Network Wizard will fix the problem? Just thought I'd throw that in there.
well my network settings are set the way tmobile set them, so i don't think it's anything we can fix on our end. it is them.
Im having the same problem since about yesturday, and my carrier is t-mobile,
so I think it has something to do with them.
Not to beat that already dead horse, but just to reiterate, I too have t-mobile and I have been receiving text exactly 3 hours late. It is very annoying and I am calling t-mobile ATM. Thanks for letting me know it isnt just me.
tell us what they say. last night it was nuts for me. i would get a text with the proper time stamp, and then one 3 hours earlier (but you know, it was actually received at the the present) and then one from the same person that would have an accurate time stamp

They told me that it was "only your issue and no one else in your area has complained about it." They offered to send me a new sim card but it seems like it must be a network issue and not a hardware one because we are all experiencing the same thing. Could it only be modded phones? I changed the rom on mine, been meaning to for a while. I cant say if it has happened again cause I havent gotten a message :-X
I live on the Northeats and was previously running Touch-IT 5.0.
you should have told them that there are reports on the internet of people having the same issues.
i'm in the southeast with the newest stock ROM. so it is definitely a network thing, not hardware or modded issues.
i'd call myself but i'm not the account holder and they make you give all these account numbers SSN and crap
well in addition to the time stamp being wrong now my sms are coming in 24 hrs late. I am afraid to ask whats next.
wow. mine are just 3 hour late timestamps. what is going on here?
I have also been getting delayed texts... sometimes like 10 minutes but can be up to like 9 hours late. I live in Seattle, WA
greetings. Last week my wife had gotten a treo 800w to replace a mogul she had. Yesterday, i noticed the old deactivated mogul had received outlook emails. After messing around with it for a little while, i found out that it's receiving data. i can use pie, opera mini, google maps, etc. It wont make or receive phone calls and cant send emails or texts. Im nowhere near a wifi hot spot or router, so im not getting data that way. The weird thing is, the internet hadnt worked for the 6 days after removing the sprint service. But, for some reason, it started working yesterday. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? will i get charged extra data fees from sprint? oh yeah, the phone had been soft reset a few tmes, and had the battery removed after it was deactivated. I was just hoping someone could maybe explain why this is happening and if ill be charged extra because of it. thx dschoenike
It will probably only work as long as the currently active phone is on the same tower as the mogul, once the other phone switches to a different tower the mogul should stop working until the other phone comes back into range.
BTC
thanks for the reply. sorry for my ignorance, but does that mean as long as both phones are relatively close to eachother receiving a signal from the same tower, it'll work? And once they're separated by a long distance, and going off of 2 different sprint towers, it'll stop working? i wonder how far sprint towers are away from one another. my wife and i work about 40 miles away from each other.
I don't honestly know, but I would bet 5-10 miles, maybe a bit more, depends on the height of the tower and how much power they are pushing.
I'm basing my info on my previous post from something I just read on HowardForums. In his case when his wife was to far away it stopped working. Someone else acknowledged it was a known issue, and that cell-phone companies are just to lazy to shut off the data. It will show up as billed on her plan, tho if she has unlimited, it shouldn't be a problem, tho I suppose if they were both accessing data at the same time, your carrier might get a little suspicious.
If her new phone doesn't have data, I would not use the old phone, as you will get billed pay as you go on the data.
BTC
shes got unlimited data on her new phone, so im thinking it wont be an issue. guess ill just enjoy it while it lasts. thank for the replies.
Ok, so I got water damage... alot of water damage.. to my g1 yesterday morning, paid the $130 deductible to have it replaced under warranty... and i just got the replacement in today
i went to tmobile since i lost my old sim card that i took out of my old g1 yesterday, and had them activate a new one for me, put it in, and was running rc33, everything was working fine until people started texting me, so here is my best attempt to explain my issue
If a tmobile customer txt messages me, everything is fine
If i text my self, everything is fine
Any other carrier i have timestamp issues, exactly 4 hours off (ex: its 8pm and it says 4pm on the timestamp)
However, it gets weirder than that, if I look at the list of people who have messaged me, timestamps for most recent message plus the brief display of the last message is correct for any carrier, if i open the message though, its incorrect. what this causes is something like this:
Bob: (message) 4:01
Bob: (message) 4:09
Bob: (message) 4:18
Bob: (message) 4:32
Me: (message) 8:02
Me: (message) 8:11
Me: (message) 8:20
Me: (message) 8:33
Now while these times are made up, its the best way to describe it, if bobs message shows 4:01, it actually came in at 8:01, and it only shows incorrectly when i open bobs individual thread, if viewing the list of threads, it will actually show as 8:01
This happens with both the stock messaging app, and chomp sms pre cupcake, i have no other apps installed, and ive changed no other settings
tmobile and i went over apn settings, refreshed me on the network, battery pulls, wipes, all sorts of crap for a hour and a half when tmobile finally said there is nothing they can do, to call there insurance company that sent me the replacement and have them send me a new phone
i was lucky enough to have a woman who was not only nice, but had a g1 and understood how to use it when talking to tmobile, however when talking to the insurance company, it was a guy who had no idea what he was talking about when it came to g1's
he first asked me to remove the battery, hold the power button to "drain the last of the power from the g1 so it forgets everything it last did" for 15 seconds, then power on, of course didnt work, then he tells me he had received an email/memo about timestamp issues with cupcake... so i tell him that im running rc33 and not cupcake, so he tells me that i need to update to cupcake and see if that fixes the issue, even though he had just gotten an email about timestamp issues with cupcake, so they wont send me a new g1 untill i get a OTA update from tmobile for cupcake
i decided not to wait, and i started to go through the root process, i just downgraded to rc29, just logged into the gmail and decided before going on, id test it again, had a verizon customer send me a txt, same issue, both with rc33 and rc29...
now ive got another g1, currently running ion, no problems with that one, its of course in the exact same area, and right next to me, again, no problems at all
tmobile has no known issues in my area for the network
tmobile has nothing reported about this with rc33, nor any other firmware according to the woman i spoke to
im going to go ahead and root and goto ION, but i figured id wait before doing that and post this issue here incase its a simple fix that i can do before flashing to ion, any ideas guys?
I had the same problem too, but it went away on its own
I believe it was a T-Mo network problem as someone in another thread said, but I can't say for sure.

Carrier? Have you checked if they have problems?
Tried your SIM in a different phone?
Tmobile is the carrier..now i lost my signal all together....I dont have another phone to try my sim out on
ok...so both data and service came back for about 30 seconds...i got two white arrows going around in a circle like it was updating something then i lost all connections again and says emergency calls only
any ideas?
ok...i have this weird folder on my sd card named .android_secure...dunno where it came from looks new to me
data signal lost here
Hey, I'm having the same problem here, no weird folder in my sd card though. Went to bed last night everything was fine, woke up and my apn list was wiped.... I reset everything in the apn and still no data connection but I have service. I'm running the latest Cyanogen mod stable for nexus, almost seems like an update was attempted last night and since i"M not stock things went crazy....
Call t mobile and see if there is a data outtage.
I had no signal for like three hours last week.
tmobile uk? mines down too. manchester area.
sim cards do go bad.... i had this happen last year... maybe go to tmobile and see if you can get another if there are no reported outages.. the probably wont even charge you if you go to a corporate store
so i called tmobile and they said they knew what it was...had to turn my phone off for two minutes and still waiting to see if it worked..but i dont know why the sync or update arrows were showing up on my notification bar. sure hope it was Froyo passing me by

where are you, uk or usa?
I've had something similar happen to me as well. This was a few weeks ago. I live in Chicago, and use T-Mobile for what it's worth. I ended up pulling the battery for a bit and rebooting. I got the data connection back.
Sometimes though, the data connection will seem to hang a bit and I'll see the flashing arrows and sync icon as well. It seems random, but the last time it happened to me was yesterday.
back
It must have been a localized black out here in Washington State (US) because my data connection came back on just now after 3 hours of being shut off. For awhile there I only had edge and no 3g and without me doing anything 3G and H have connected back on.
Well that's good. The optimist in me says that the outages and weird issues are related to the upgrade of HSPA+ for us Let's hope it's true.
I had the same problem in WA. Data has also been restored here.
Hi everyone,
First of all, I did search the forums for similar issues.
I just went up to T-Mobile and got a microSIM card to activate my Nexus 4. (replaced my old Samsung Vibrant) I'm getting signal (4 bars) but I'm not getting any data at all. It's just showing grey signal bars. When I connect to WiFi it turns blue though. My APN settings are at default and I don't have airplane mode on. Even the T-Mobile guys couldn't get it to work.
Make sure your APN settings match these and then reboot your device
Thanks

Didn't work... Still showing no data.
Might be a silly suggestion but I've seen it before.
Check to see if you have data enabled. Settings>more>mobile network
Sent from my Nexus 4
^I've seen that before too
Are you able to send texts? Calls? MMS?
My wife's mytouch 4g had the same issue until we did a factory reset.
Same exact issue for me. I'm on my 5th day of this. I've gone into T-Mo stores, called customer service multiple times, been elevated to engineer resolution too and still no fix. Switched my Sim twice, factory reset twice, finally even rooted my nexus 4 and installed other ROMs and kernels... Still nothing! Any advice?
My APN is set to default, all data enabled. I get days when connected to WiFi, but as soon as WiFi is turned off my bars go gray again and the error message tells me I need to upgrade my plan to include data (I'm on the 30/mo unlimited plan).
What is going on?!

EDIT: "days" = "data" in second sentence of second paragraph. :good:
Is that the "$30/mo, 100 minute, 4GB data" plan, or a "$30/mo unlimited minute, no data" plan?
Check Settings > Data usage > Set mobile data limit > (unchecked)
Dial *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information > WCDMA prefered
Also, try enabling data roaming (just a thought).

I am having the EXACT same "grey bar" issue, with my phone telling me to "Sign into T-Mobile," and when I click on that notification, the webpage opens telling me according to their records, I have no data plan. I have confirmed with T-Mobile tech support that everything looks OK on their end.
I even reset to Google official ROM and did a factory reset and reflashed the radio(s) with the official Google one. Same issue.
Irritating.
So I finally got my situation worked out. I knew all along it wasn't my phone b/c of my multiple factory resets/wipes, new ROMs/Kernels, and even RMA's my freaking Nexus 4 for a brand new one....problem persisted. Went to a different T-Mo store b/c the guy at the other one was useless. He swapped my sim into his Nexus 4 and his phone then had the same issue as mine...and his sim worked perfect in my phone. Tried new sims...and still the problem stayed.
Finally I got the store manager to call up T-Mo and have them completely delete my account, create a new account with the same number, and transfer my balance over to this new account. Finally a solution! The T-Mo system for some reason had a hold on my account for data, even though all payments were up to date. The dumb thing is, no one could see or change this "hold" as EVERY rep said "There's no problem on our end..."
Anyway, if you experience this issue, have T-MO reset your account. The only solution.

Thanks for the info. I will print this out and bring it with me to the store.
Unfortunately, I have a family plan with two other lines on this account. This sounds like it has huge potential for service disruption to my family.

No problem. I had this issue for a week and a half before I finally told the T-Mo guys that I'm not leaving this store until you fix it. Literally spoke with over a dozen reps via phone, and two different T-Mo stores...each with multiple reps. My issue was even escalated to "engineer status" multiple times after running through trouble shooting procedures a half dozen times. The engineers didn't fix it and never even called me. Such a frustrating 10 days...
You can reset your account which is instantaneous and "shouldn't" disrupt your service. Since I had them actually close my account and create a new one, I was out of service for about 2.5 hours. Not too big a deal since I use GV anyway, so all of my VMs and texts were stored on the GV app/website. They ARE ABLE TO DO THIS even though every rep will tell you "I can't do that, sir..." I was very polite and understanding the first 9 days. On day 10 I called their BS and asked them to get it done or I switch providers.
I hope your experience goes smoother than mine!

Issue resolved. They didn't have to reset my account. I had made a data plan change a week or so ago to 2GB, and then had reset it so that it went back down to 500MB at the end of the month. Apparently, this triggered something weird in their system. I don't know why it only started affecting me yesterday, but that's what happened. So the rep (who was over "chat," not even on the phone) set my account at 2GB and then set it so that next month it would go down to 500MB. I asked her why, if T-Mobile data is always "unlimited" (even if throttled), I would *ever* have no data, and she couldn't tell me why. She said within two hours though, my data would be back. And it was.
All good this morning, so hopefully that was the end of it.
Don't know if this will help anyone else, but...
Cheers.
