Can't boot from usb!!! - Shift General

I'm trying to recover aaquasesh's instructions, but whenever i try and boot from my thumbdrive it isn't in the boot menu or bios. I tried 2 different thumbdrives and they are bootable on a different computer.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Very helpful if you need to recovery from scratch.

do you flash the new BIOS Update from HTC Homepage for better USB recognation ? Maybe that helps. Sometimes the Problem is the different USB Boot Modis:
2 that I know:
USB Stick with (virtual) Floppy Disk (Superdisk) Emulation
USB Stick with bootable Harddisk Emulation.
Some USB Sticks don´t boot with pre-formated Filesystem.
Use this tool to format non-bootable USB Sticks with FAT Filesystem:
HP USB Stick Format Tool
Filename: HP_USB_Boot_Utility 2.00.006 Rev. B.exe
http://www.wintotal.de/Software/index.php?id=3181
Don´t use newer Versions of this tool, with newer Versions of this "format" most of the time (booting) is not working.
This Tool is only necersarry if your USB Stick not booting, and is not a guarantee
for booting, but with this tool I become some USB Sticks to become booting
Most Customers use this tool for enabling Bart´s PE Disk Builder on USB Stick, or
other nice tools like Virus Scanners etc.

Use phone as bootable windows installer?

In theory, can I use the phone in mass storage mode as a bootable windows installer? Lots of guides teach you how to use USB sticks, but can I use the phone?
My understanding is that in mass storage mode, the phone acts exactly like a USB stick, but this might not be entirely true? Do computers require any special drivers to read the contents of the phone when it's set to mass storage mode?
it'll work if you format it on FAT32 and set the partion to enable for booting, you'll need some 3rd party software to enable that.
use the guide the instructions from this guide,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724251
and in the process you can also enable the partition 1 to be a bootable partition
it works for both internal and external SD cards.
Keep note though, it only works for motherboards / laptops that has BIOS support to boot from USB, older motherboards, anything before 2007 are usually not bootable from BIOS, or at least not very compatible.
there were some mobos already from 2005 that were BIOS usb bootable but the media support was very picky, did not work for most.

[Q] pc doenst see usb storage in rom or recovery ( code 10 error for WPH)

as the title suggest. my laptop does see the device as in it gives te connect sound and i can see the device in the devicemanager. but i cant acces the USB storage of my phone, not while in android or Recovery. only in magldr i can acces the usb storage with the masstorage option. i have a code 10 error in the devicemanager. and i have researched it a bit but i cant find a fix for it. i already tried to reinstall the drivers (plug-and-play install and manual driver instal) i cant get it to work.
does anyone have a solution?
kind regards.
what rom are you using.?
I have tried multiple roms Nand and Nativesd. all the same result. i think its either my phone or my laptop. but i dont know hoe to fix it.
first try all the usb ports on your computer...if not try deleting the drivers to find it and reinstall it again....try to see if another computer works fine or it gives you the same results...(also i should mention that for me only the original cable works...other cables works only for charging)
then i should try finding my old data cable. maybe that will fix it. with the cables i now have used my pc brings up that little usb thing icon in de statusbar in the right corner. but doenst see is when i open "my computer" . and in device manager it says error 10(device wont start) for WPH-filesystem
ok another thing...your sd card is fine.? if you insert your sd card to computer through card reader works fine.?
yep, even bought a new one yesterday. works if i put it in de cardreader. but not if the card is in the phone

Acer W3-810 can not boot from USB

My W3-810 has problem when update .
I received a message :" Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
Google and then i realized i need to recovery it by DVD
But i don't have USB DVD Rom so that i format my 4gb USB with Windows8.1 ISO by Refus program to make UEFI bootable USB .
But when i plugged my usb into the tablet, in BIOS mode, Boot settings, i can't see the name of this usb, it just "USB HDD: " " .
Anyone can help ? i don't have enough money to buy USB DVD rom so don't answer with that.
Can i borrow a 16gb USB to copy from DVD recovery and boot it ?

[Q] "LG G2 " I really need help, I think I screwed up a lot.

I really need help, I think I screwed up a lot.
I've tried to flash a different ROM, but did not think that it was good.
So here is my big mistake, i have wiped it all away, also my backup, the only thing i can start up is TWRP v2.7.0.0.
I cant flash because i did not enable USB DEBUGGING before Wipe.
So i bought an OTG cable, but when i try to connect it, it wont mount..
Is there anything i can do, is there anyone that can help me.:crying:
My Phone is a LG G2 D802 without SD card slot..

Usb otg is for flash disks
take a flash disk (usb drive), format it @ FAT32
copy over your rom and flash it.
Or simply connect the device to the computer and push via
"adb push rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip"
also usb debugging off/on is only for android (which is alive).
Feel free to ask.

Thanks for answer.
The problem is that when i connect a USB flash drive, it wont mount it.
And when i try to connect my phone to my PC through with ADB i cant see it, not even inside Device Manager, and i have installed ADB drivers many different ones in hope to make it work.
When i use my girlfriends phone that are the same model, then it works.
I have been reading that the PC can not see the Phone with out USB DEBUGGING activated.
But i do believe that with the right command inside TERMINAL of TWRP i can activate USB DEBUGGING.
try formatting into fat32 - the usb

Requirements to format a USB drive so Shield TV & TWRP and access it's files?

I'm trying to find out the Android requirements to properly format a USB drive from either a Windows or macOS computer (Linux if required) so (A) I can mount it on Shield TV 2017 (16GB) and (B) TWRP 3.2.3.0 Recovery Project can actually read the files on it.
What are the exact requirements to format the USB drive so Android doesn't have to modify or update anything?
FAT32/NTFS/XFAT/Other ? from what I've read FAT32 seems to be the most preferable.
MBR/GDP/Other ?
Primary/Logical ?
What tool is the best to format this so there's no issues?
I've tried Gparted, Windows Format, Acronis, Disk Utility, MiniTool Partition Wizard, and a few others.
Are their any requirements to copy data (i.e. boot.img, boot.zip, readme.txt, etc...) files from Windows/macOS/Linux onto the USB drive so it's readable?
These may sound like primitive or stupid questions, however I've spent several hours trying to boot my Shield TV (usb keyboard holding keys A and B) to then launch TWRP 3.2.3.0 Recovery to then mount the USB and read its files to Install them. So far I've tried just about everything I've learned from the internet and nothing seems to work. I've even formatted the USB drive using a Sony Android (7.0) TV however when I attempt to insert that onto either a PC or Mac both require the drive to be initialized. When my Shield TV was still working any USB drive I inserted required it be formatted or updated in some way so it could read it.
Currently if I format the USB drive can be detected by Shield TV and mounted by TWRP however none of the files I've copied onto it can be viewed by TWRP. I understand that TWRP filters files so if one needs to load an *.img file one needs to press the correct button to "view" and "access" those file types.
I'm starting to believe it's not the USB it's TWRP but I can't tell for certain.
Does one need to create Android-x86 (android-x86_64-8.1-rc2.iso) in VMware to accomplish this task? It's mind boggling that this is seems to be so difficult when it should be rather straight forward.

You have tried mounting the USB I take it? I would try a different USB Stick if you have one for sure, it doesn't have to be any special format at all, just a simple fat32 format through Windows is all it needs. Without actually physically seeing what is going on, I can't really say what is going on, power is actually getting to the USB, eg, can you see any lights flashing etc?

Hello whiteak, Shield TV sees the USB drive, TWRP is able to mount it, navigate to it and list folders but no files are displayed either through Install (to see boot.img, readme.txt or boot.zip) even when toggling the IMG or ZIP button. I've also attempted to use TWRP's File Manager to review this data, no success. In an alternate test to prove that TWRP can see any *.img file I navigated to the Downloads folder (internal storage) and it can see recovery.img just fine. Using TWRP's File Manager I've attempted to change the file permissions (chmod 755, 777, etc...) to the usb-otg but that didn't change anything either.
At this point I'm unsure what to think? Is it the way the USB drive is formatted? Is it file/folder permissions on the USB drive? Is it TWRP limiting things that are actually there but refuses to read them for security or some other reasons? Hard to tell...
SOLVED
I solved the problem. I'll post the exact steps later but in short, create a Virtual Machine, install Android 8.1, insert the USB drive, format it and quit. Once this is done PROPERLY I later copied the necessary files using macOS TERMINAL from macOS to the USB drive. Now TWRP sees everything. What a pain in the @$$ to do such a simple task.

Hello elliwigy, I'm quite new at all this so I didn't know how to format a USB drive using ADB, I didn't even know this was possible. I'll have to look into this next time. My workaround installing Android in VMware worked out well.
