auto screen rotation - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

does any one kows any software for auto screen rotation for htc touch dual?
thanks on advance.

Sorry, but for have the auto rotating screen, you must have the accelerometer (sorry, i dont know if in english is exact) wich is an hardware piece.

you need hardware for that , not software
Im guessing you wanted to make it like the iphone

Why iPhone? There's not just the iPhone whit this feature!
By the way, i wonder if its possible to install an accelerometer on a phone who doesn't have it.

yeah... not just iphone that have this feature. also available in HTC Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD.
Mobile phones nowadays are coming out with accelerometers built in, which is basically a device built into the phone that “tells” the phone which way it is being held up, down, left, right, moving etc.
Accelerometer is not a piece of software, it's a component inside the phone. So, if u guys need one, change to one of the phone that I mentioned earlier.

[IDEA] Camera, Lock, Mute calls

1 - Stylus camera. For those who does not like using the Dpad to take a shot and or for the upcoming touch HD using the stylus as camera button might work out.
2 - Stylus, light sensor, G-sensor together as a lock. I've seen keylocks with light sensor or the stylus. However, i'm sure many of us will agree the password lock on wm6 makes the device look like its from the 90s. Would it be possible to have all three combination of users own choice (some what like the G1's lock but with sensors instead of numbers or touch screen). Maybe its too fancy.
3 - Mute calls! Either in call or before picking up, would it be possible to make a trigger (flip phone 180 to left) to mute phone ring or hold call and flip the other way to undo. Or the other way around for left handed people. this way, you can flip to put the phone face down on table to mute or flip away from ear when driving to hold call.
4 - Finally, X1 is out!!!! Looks soo sexy. But seems soooo damn slow. But i can really care less about it. However, SE does have pretty damn good build in Apps and they have added them into the WM6 X1! Is there any chance if someone would want to use SE example camera's funtion/walkman function on a HTC device instead? In other words, is there any way to extract their build in apps to put them into other devices.
Sorry if bringing up so much. For all the pros here, there might be some stuff that sounds stupid but i wouldn't know cuz i have no clue on how to create my own ideas for testing. Would love to learn how to do so. Tips on how to start doing these shorts of things for a noob would be helpful!
O yea, one more thing, GAMES! needs to be improved for WM devices! as much as such smart phones were meant for business use, having more games wouldn't hurt. plus, g-sensor would help.

light sensor app like Iphone (incall screen off)

I was wondering if there's a app that allows the screen to turn off when you put the phone to you head? Then when you bring it out and in front of you, it turns back on. My Iphone did that and I loved that feature.
upping cause i'm intersted too
im believe this feature on the iphone is provided by a proximity sensor, you can probable do this with the light sensor but it would only work in the day time bc at night the screen would always be off...
not unless you use the gsensor too? i think if you work with the light sensor and the gsensor..you can get it to work. maybe have it only work when theres a active call.
This is an extremely good idea!
now if I was only a programmer
i'd love to see this feature on my diamond/blackstone too, i always have problems with the cursor jumping somewhere else when taking a note while in call...
theres already a thread about that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451456
sweet. thanks
I really love that fuction on iPhone as well. I found some program that can adjust the Light Sensor to dim the back light as you want. I never try it but surely not work in the dark. If any news on this issue, pls advise!!
I think the g-sensor is the answer, off course in combination with light sensor. If someone could make an app that would turn off the backlight during an active call AND when phone is in vertical position; this could resolve difficulties with light sensor.

There are a couple out there that attempt to solve the same problem the iPhone does.
One I know of is Touchlock Pro - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444215
It is free but it still has a little way to go before it is a polished solution
The other is PocketShield -- http://www.pocketshield.net/
It's not free but I found it so effective for the in-call problem as well as general locking/unlocking that it was worth paying for
I've also, as a developer by trade, played with the light sensor, g-sensor, and stylus sensor APIs and tried to create a basic proof of concept that solved just the in-call problem very well and found that without the approach taken by Pocketshield it just was not reliable enough for me.

All these programms are great software but are nowhere near the iphone solution... like i already said, the problem is e.g. that if you are on the phone and the person on the other end tells you a phonenumber you need to write down - the cursor always jumps to somewhere else as soon as you put your phone back to your ear (and then take it away again ofcourse to continue to notice the number).
ive messed with those apps before with no luch for what i was looking for. Simple app...JUST for incall and end call. light goesout..then comes back in. those other apps are pretty detaild

Very true, but unfortunately this hardware does not have the same sensor as the iPhone so you can only fake it so much.
I'd love to see this developed as well. But just wondering as some have mentioned using the gsensor; what if your laying down using the phone?
any developers out there. this would be awsome. make it simple. only works when the phone is in call. the gsensor sensing the phone from 0-45 degrees and only 0-5% light. seems sorta simple when u look at it like that.
hey everyone. My HTC Touch Pro came with this functionality out of the box. And i really don't like it at all. I think the difference to the iphone is that the screen does not turn back on until the power button is pressed.

My diamond does this already?
mine didnt. very weird.
For what it's worth, S2U2 v.1.42 has an option called "blank screen on call" which essentially disables the touch screen and makes it turn off when a call is connected (both sent and received). To get the screen to turn back on, simply press any hardware button. (Note though that pressing the END button while on a call will end the call as well as turning on the screen.)
I've found this feature to be VERY useful and figured it's as close as we're going to get for the time being .

Anyone heard of Pocketshield software?

Stumbled across this today and it looks like it could be useful. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a bit of software that autolocks the phone when in your pocket or in a bag then it becomes active when you take it out. It does this by using the light sensor on the phone.
It says on the website that it is available for the Touch HD and Diamond but has not been tested on a Touch 3G yet.
Does anyone know if the OS is the same on the 3G. i.e. Should it work if it does on the other HTC phones as I might be interested in getting it as I find locking it manually a bit of a bind.
Looks like it has other features as well such as shake to answer and themes.
Have a look and let me know what you think:
http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/demo.aspx
some features might not work on touch 3g as this phone does not have a movement sensor...
Besides, it's only for vga screen, 3G is qvga screen.

how to avoid ear press the button while speaking?

I tired quite a few roms.
And most of the roms have the problem when I am speaking, my ear touch the screen.
Is there anyway to auto lock the screen once the call is connected??
PocketShield perhaps solves your problem

I turn off the screen with the power button when I take the call.
anyway to make it like the stock rom that you need to slide in order to use the number pad.
Or use regedit to change the setting??
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991
It uses the g-sensor to detect when the phone is held in the typical in-call position, and turns the screen off. Turns the screen back on again when you move the phone back down from your ear.
Well that option is just fine, it helps you to keep your phone bill affordable ...but without kidding there is another app that let's you phone go to quick sleep it's called:
advanced configuration tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
next to those options, there is a lot more to change..if you ain't an expert user, don't mess around with things that you don't understand!!!
thanks for all the input, my rom comes with the advanced configuration tool.
I play around with the light senser and g-senser, but still cant get it work.
I guess I will just keep playing with it.

It is quite surprising that HTC did not put any proximity sensor in topaz. It's not that they aren't aware of this issue, they have put one in rhodium. Then why would they not put one in topaz?
HTC took 3 years to come up with a hardware comparable to iphone. IMHO HD2 is the only one that is comparable and in fact better than iphone. I like HTC and windows mobile... but sometime I feel that they are just using my trust to force me into buying a new phone every year by doing incremental upgrades to their phones.

How does the touch-sensitivity of the Leo compare to that of the iphone?

I have been trying to find a Leo to test the touch sensitivity. I currently own the touch HD (for a year now), and although I love it, I must say that the iphone is clearly a lot more responsive to the touch than my hd.
The iphone responds right away to the slightest touch and the movement is so fluid.
How fluid is - for example - cover flow flicking through albums in the Leo landscape player?
If we say the iphone touch-response is a 10 on a scale from 1 to 10, how would you rate the Leo just in that respect?
OK, having had the HD, iPhone 3GS and the Leo I can offer a real perspective on this.
I have the iPhone 3GS sitting right here in front of me and my new Leo. I can tell you straight up, I don't see any difference in sensitivity between the two. They both swipe the same, moving finger across keys. I find no difference in how either screen responds to my finger movements.
It has taken me a few hours of playing around with device (HD2) and having to use the keyboard (when it was required, didn't just use the keyboard) to get used to its different size of keys. What I found is that the end of my fingers aren't 100% equal and that sometimes when I thought I was touching one key my finger actually touched another (edge) as one part of my figertip was further forward (does that make sense) than the part I though I was touching with (the middle). I had this same problem moving from my HD to the iPhone 3GS.
There is one difference that I have noticed...
The iPhone keyboard allows you to press a second/third (probably more than this, but hard to do on such a small keyboard) key while you have another key pressed (multi touch). When you press the second/third key it treats the previous key press as if it has been released. The HTC keyboard won't allow you to press a second/third key while having another pressed.
Both (HD2 and iPhone) keyboards register a key press (send character) when you release the key, not when you first push on it (my simple explanation). This obviously means that when using multiple fingers (thumbs) your experience may be slightly different on the iPhone vs. HD2.
This isn't the phones fault, but the keyboard programs I suspect. Being that the HD2 can multi touch this is just another app that doesn't support it. I haven't tried (on HD2) any of the other keyboards yet so I can't comment on how they work, I don't think any of the WM keyboards support multi touch yet.
Maybe Rozental (FingerKeyboard) can add some light to this. I suspect if FingerKeyboard doesn't already support multi touch it will be made too, once a way to do so is available.
I love my HD2 and how it responds. My iPhone is going up on eBay later today.
Way to bias the question from the start, enforcing top possible marks for the iPhone.
Also, try reading the forum. Do you really think that this hasn't already been discussed? Multiple times?
The touch response is amazing. End of.

What phone did you use previously?
as mentioned already the sensitivity of the hd2 and the iPhone is the same. I have both and they both seem to react in the same way. for those used to resistive screen, it might seem overly sensitive. but once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you could ever manage without capacitive again. if you go back to resistive screen you might just think the unit is defective!

This.
Capacitive was always going to be weird to get used to for people who had never used an iPhone. Imagine how iPhone users felt the first time they used their phones.
Now you never hear people complaining that it is too sensitive. It will take some getting to, but damn, it's worth it!
Capacitive vs resistive

You nailed it.
7 years of resistive WM devices and I felt all thumbs on the Leo at first, but now when I use the HD...it feels inadequate.

I couldn't agree more. Now I'm used to my HD2, I can quite literally type as fast as I do on a real keyboard......it's awesome. I went back to my omnia for a couple of mins for comparison....and oh my oh my, woefully inadequate.
Viva la winmo capacitive screen
i have owned both and the HD2 is more sensitive. Maybe even too sensitive

I owned the SEX1, but there's no way i'm going back.
HD2 is as sensitive as the 3GS. Though I am more accurate on the 3GS than I am on the HD2 (better key placement, size of device and proportionately wider keys helps on this one).
I think once we get used to the screen it will all calm down. Most of us are just used to resistive screens.

WOW - thank you for the detailed info. Yes, I understood everything you wrote.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to answering my question. Like I said, I have not been able to get my hands on the Leo here in Germany, so until now, I have only been able to compare the HD with the iPhone and, well the difference is obvious (and to be expected). I have been considering selling my HD and getting the HD2. And if its capacitive screen shows no difference to that of the iPhone, then I know I'll love it.
I'vehad a bunch of resisteve winMo phoens, and then all 3 iphones..
the iPhoneswere all the same
and if they are a 10 - the HD2 is a 12
i found it too be too sensitive trying to use the keyboard
but i used the cab file from this forum which changes the sensitivity which helped a lot

Great to hear the HD2 is a 12 (if the iphone is a 10). I would prefer "too sensitive" over "not sensitive enough". I'm seriously considering getting rid of my HD and getting a Leo. I'm just checking on prices and maybe I'll wait a bit for the price to drop (maybe after the holidays).

Im not convinced they will ever support that iphone style keyboard. As far as I can tell it seems the "multitouch" support on the hd2 is all handled in the driver. I have yet to see any app support more than pinch-to-zoom, and I think in those cases the app is not aware of the touches - I think the driver just sends a zoom in or zoom out command.
On topic: I went back to my touch pro and I thought the device was being unresponsive requiring multiple presses. It took me a while to figure out I wasnt pressing hard enough. I guess the hd2 has been spoiling me and I hadnt realised it!

Bingo. The OS does not support more than one cursor position, so the only way HTC can shoehorn such things into the device is with driver trickery sending zoom commands to supplied apps that support it, and however they've done the virtual screen "digital zoom" in other apps. Until WM7 this is as good as it gets.

Touch sensitiivity on the HD2 is fine.
