scratches on screen - XPERIA X1 General

Hello everyone,
My friend has bought an X1. After I saw it, my first thought was that the plastic coating on the acreen is not that "bulletproof" as it is on T-Pro or Diamond. I am *really* afraid that the screen would catch all the scratches in no time, even taking into account that it is recessed. Maybe I am paranoic but my first thought was that I would be able to scratch it with my nails....
So, Xperia-users, what do you say? If someone could compare the plastic hardness of X1-screen with an T-Pro one (or iPhone) that would be great

Use a screen protector, Diamond and Pro users use one regardless of its hardness

10x for answering,
I just wonder how is it compared to Diamond and/or iPhone? Even being a MAC-hater I have to admit that iPhone uses some kind of a hard coating for its screen, which is not THAT easy to scratch..

Which screen protector for the X1 ?
Link ?
Thanks

I ordered a 10 pack from ebay ....

Next xperia just gonna have to make there screen outta CZ. Don't know how the touch sensors gonna work with that though lol.

Maybe they should scratch resistant glass.

Come on, people, there HAS to be someone who can compare the screens of HTC-PRO/Diamond, Xperia and iPhone in terms of (anti?) scratchability

I dont know about the pro/diamond but I can tell from the iPhone to the Touch Cruise ... the iphone is way way more resistant to scratches than the Touch Cruise. The iphone if i am not mistaken is glass or something, it felt more solid. and the HTC Touch Cruise felt like hard plastic.

I'm using touchscreens for over 5 yers, and display protector is a must.
According to my experiences, one single good (=expensive) protective foil is much better than 10 cheap pieces. Right now I have a 3M Vikuiti ARMR200 on my SE M600i and Nokia N800 since beginning of 2007 and they (these protectors) are still like new, no scratches.
They not only protect against scratches but also against fingerprints. Even the touchscreen feels & works better with than without them!
The only problem may be screen readability outside (on direct sunlight) as ARMP200 is quite "anti-reflexy".

The thing is I dont know where to buy high quality protective film for the xperia. If you could guide me ill buy it now.

I've found mine on eBay.
Try also these links:

http://www.google.com/search?q=xperia+brando+protector

Ah, I dont really like crystal cases. I like to actually hold my device, the vikuiti is awesome but they dont ship to the us.

Ive always used Martin Fields PDA Screen Protectors on all my touch screen phones. They are good quality and let nearly all light through.
I have emailed them about X1, they say early nov

to protect... or not to protect

a question for those of you who've had their Execs for a little while now: what's the screen like? I was paranoid about scratching mine with the stylus so put a screen protector after a day or two.
problem is it feels so thick that I might as well have thrown a big blanket over the screen... the exec doesn't notice the stylus unless I press really quite hard, so it might be defeating the purpose anyway
what do people think?
is there anyone who has been using theirs for a while without a protector who could say what the screen is like now?
you should use the screen protector. otherwise your screen will look like mine... however, i use it too much...
i've made a mistake and bought a GOOD protector when i noticed the damage on the screen.
So don't be that stupid as me and buy it before it's too late.
BTW, i bought one from www.Innopocket.com and it is still on my screen for last 6 months...
It is non glare, very hard surface, thin protector.
Writing is exactly the same as without it. Screen visibility is much better WITH it, thanx to it's non reflective surface.
buzz
Agree with buzz - you can be as carful as u want but dust on screen makes stylus scratchy.
Having said that, for my last few XDA's they all got scratched, THEN I put a protector on and they look as good as new!
I have had 5 or 6 different pocket pc's over time all of them for at least a year, i never ever used a screen protector and when i sold them they were almust as new without scratches.
My universal wont get a screen protector on that gives me a bad picture quality. i wanna enjoy the great screen on the device, not walking around with a bad screen so the next owner can have a good screen.
just my two cents
the best screen protectors are made by martin fields....you wont even know its there!
go here to buy... www.doml.com

yeah - that's the type i'm using... although i'm really not getting on with it - like i say, it feels really thick, and seems to make the screen far less responsive
i spent quite a bit on it, though - so am reluctant to try buying others, and gotta admit, i was hoping to hear that i could just pull it off and forget about it
you should get one from Brando HK. their ultra clear screen protector is the best protector I have ever used on earth.
Yes you should use a screen protector.
Not only does it protect screen it also reduces glair very usefull if you use GPS. I got mine from www.proporta.com ther also do a nice case.
Regards
Colin Bate
I had a wallaby for 12 months & a himalaya for 18 months, both without protectors & both looked fine when it came time to sell. I carried them in my pocket with the screen facing my leg. As you can close the screen on the exec, I'm even less concerned.
However, the anti glare part sounds like a good thing
;-)

Scratch-resistant screen?

Anyone know how tough the glass screen on the Hero is? I've been mollycoddling mine ever since I got it, but my brother just slings his iPhone in his pocket and it's never scratched.
My Touch Diamond screen ended up with countless tiny scratches after 6 months living in my pocket. :-(
Can confirm, concrete and the screen do not mix.
Get a screen protector
Hero's screen is made of "gorilla glass" same as the Iphones
I've been taking good care of mine too, only keeping it in an otherwise empty pocket. Somehow managed to get a tiny scratch tho.
Sorry for reviving the thread, but didn't want to start a new one. Can anyone confirm that the screen is indeed made of the same material as the iPhone per NisseGurra's post? (not doubting, just would rather ask and potentially find a source that confirms this )
I must say that the screen to me feels more plasticy than the iPhones ( I've held them side by side ).
I bought some protector screen off ebay, and so long as you put them on with care, they're very good.
Yeah I threw one on that came w/ a Flexishield case I purchased from eBay, but now I'm really starting to appreciate the anti-grease coating that was on the screen before I put the protector on. That's why I was wondering... if it truly is a scratch-resistant screen, I'd consider going protector-less for the sake of having a TON less smudging.
while it's pretty expensive, I suspect the HTC official screen protectors must have the anti-grease coating too - I certainly haven't noticed a difference in smudging level
in a small portion in the corner of my screen i thought i would test this out, even using a screw or blade with a fair bit of pressure it didnt scratch i think for normal usage ie keys in pocket you will stay scratch free.
I must admit, whatever they have coated the screen with seems to be far less scratch prone than other handsets I've had.
I do look after it TBH, but then I always do look after my handsets, hate scratched screens.
It does appear to be coated in a plastic and does not feel like glass. yet its cold to the touch just like glass would be, whereas plastic would feel 'warmer' to the touch.
In the most supreme irony, my screen has picked up a couple of small scratches. Lol. No clue where from either, it hasn't been dropped or mistreated.
Seems a screen protector is in order.

That's bizarre, especially considering your little corner-of-the-screen test!

Which screen protector is most scratch resistant?

There are some cheap screen protectors out there, which are made of too soft plastic so that they'll get scratches easily which doesn't look really good.
So, can you tell me your experience with your screen protectors on your HD2 - do you have allready small scratches in it or is it fully scratch resistant?
I don't use one with the HD2, but the best I ever used on formal phones was EXiM Spuc. They feel a little harder then other screen protectors and I used one on a SE P1 for about 6 months with the pointy stylus and I sold the phone with the protector still on, I even had to tell the new owner there was one on there..
I have a new brando screen protector for HD2 but haven't used it yet. I use the PO S511 case from htc, so most of the time its closed..
Usually the anti-glare ones (check the HD2 accessories forum..i got it from somewhere in there) are a bit more scratch resistant. They feel a bit "thicker" than the clear ones...though I'm sure they're about the same thickness.
I use the FX-Clear (Folix) bought at amazon.de - it´s great stuff
i dont have any protector and no scratches. Its glass... there is even a video with ppl trying to hurt it with a knife and it's still fine after... Waste of money imo. Also might impair functionality and looks.
Rather than get the screen scratched, as has happened to a few people on here (keys & change in the pocket with the phone!!!), I got some of these...
http://www.protectionfilms24.com/article/vikuiti-dqc-160-screen-protector-htc-hd2-28087.html
They're quite thick, but don't hinder screen sensitivity (I'd estimate the reduction in sensitivity around 5% - it's that minor). You can also wash them and reapply them (if you can get it off!)
I'm terrible at applying screen protectors. I always get stuff underneath them and end up going through a whole pack and not getting one perfect. With these things, however, the fact that I could just remove it and wash it was a godsend! It's easy enough to remove if you've only just put it on, and I've now got one that's on there that you can't see. It's perfect!
I couldn't recommend them enough mate. 3 for 2 at the minute as well, so well worth it.
Why would anyone want a screen protector for the HD2 when its glass and scratch proof??? wierd confused:

Because it's not scratch proof - it can get scratched...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589425
definitely InvisibleSHIELD!
you pay premium quality, but you really get scratchproof device. you can scratch the foil with keys and you won't find any marks. using these foils on my iPods for 4 years and they still look like brand new! you can choose between screen only, or a full body cover.
also, the foil has a lifetime warranty!

shouldn't this thread be in Leo accessories?
I grabbed this stuff: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370310732216
before the minor scratch I'd already made was joined by any more...
they can be a real pain to get properly aligned but they easily remove,if required, and can be stuck back on again just as easily..it's just like applying transfers to airfix models when you were a kid.

Screen protector for X2?

Hi!
Yesterday I sent my X2 to service*, so I have probably a month or so to look for a screen protector - or do I need one? X2 is not equipped with one, so maybe S-E thinks the screen is good enough without it?
Probably not, so I'd like if you could recommend me a screen protector, maybe two - glossy and matte.
I don't care about its scratch resistance, I just want it to be as thin as possible so it does not interfere with the touch detection much.
Does anyone actually notice any difference between "expensive" and "cheap eBay" screen protectors?
Thanks!
*I know this sentence is not right, what term should I use?
Nobody using a screen protector for their X2?
im sure there was a thread about this somewhere else. but anyway, check out durasec hightec. i had their screen protector on my X1 for a year. its a special self healing plastic. small cuts and scratches just dissappear! highly recommended. they have their own website and are also on ebay. i think it comes from germany. costs around £9.
this is there ebay website. you dont want the cleartec ones, theyre just regular plastic.. its the HIGHTEC single protector.
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/falcixx/m.html?_nkw=x2&_sacat=0&_trksid=m270&_odkw=&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
they also have a regular website

i really wouldnt bother with the cheapo ones. i had three with the X2 when i got it and they only last a week or so and get scratched very easily. the durasec will last as long as you have the phone. its quite thick but doesnt affect the touchscreen response at all.

I bought one for the i-Phone (price 2$ ) because in Lebanon we don't have accessories for SE so I cut it in order to become the size of the X2, touch so well and protect the screen from the wounds
The best solution for screen protect is Brando protector. I bought one and can´t belive that is so briliant! Best protector ever!
Here it is: http://mobile.brando.com/bw-ultraclear-smart-phone-s-p-sony-ericsson-xperia-x2-_p05064c0864d008.html
Thanks for your replies!
Well, yesterday I ordered some cheap protectors from eBay, both glossy and matte. I went after the lowest price, because I so far have not found any comparison or reliable testing which would prove these expensive "brand" protectors to be better. It is just a piece of plastic anyway, isn't it?

Good screen protectors for the Ideos x5

Hey there,
My girlfriend just bought the Ideos x5 and I wanted to buy her a screen protector...
I tried finding bodyguardz or invisibleshield on amazon, but I couldn't find them...
Is there any good and trustworthy screen protectors for this phone with wet apply?
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but I'm new on this part of the forum.
Thanks guys
savvies screen protectors are good. cristal clear but not scratch proof
Mine is Savvies Crystal-Clear but "Huawei IDEOS X5 Screen Protector | invisible SHIELD by ZAGG" is what you are looking for.
I dont t have one, and think that its not necessary. I have my phone for 3 months and looks like new. This type of screens based on glass have a great resistence to scratches, with a resistive touchscreen, yeah, that's needed... on my opinion

you are so wrong. You have no idea. I've recently replaced my screen protector cause it was all messed up, scratches everywhere. I can't even imagine myself not using one. And yes, I'm careful with my phone.
here is the difference, if we both want to sell our phones on ebay for example, I can call mine "mint condition" cause it had a screen cover from day 1, and you will have to say something like, "scuffs from regular use". That's the difference.
On topic, don't buy EZGuardz's.
This is a good screenprotector:
need to edit to amazon
a mazon. com/gp/product/B005FH44L4/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
It does say somewhere that the screen is scratch-resistant (and oleophobic-coated) glass. But I don't have the balls to test that
So I got myself a set of 6 dirt cheap protectors (~1€) off ebay. They fit well enough and it gives you lots of spares so you can practice applying them. Obviously they're prone to scratches, but that doesn't really matter. You can't see them when the screen is on. As long as they're not on the phone that's fine by me.
Wet apply isn't really necessary, just make sure you clean the screen well and do it in a relatively dust-free environment. I use a credit card or similar (just about as wide as the screen) and managed no bubbles second time I tried
PS: I don't know what material that color-changing ring around the screen is, but it's ridiculously strong. I've had my phone in my pocket for a few months now, often with keys, and I can't find a single scratch on there.
Check daydeal.com they have good cases and screen protectors for U8800!
