Accessing Laptop from Cingular 8125 via Wifi !

Hi All,
Its been a mystery to get this working. I just upgraded my Cingular 8125 to the officieal AKU 2.2 Rom from Cingular. Before that i tried a couple of products like V-Mobile Network browser, NetUse, Pockt Hosts etc and nothing helped me access my laptop from my Cingular 8125. Then i was trying out FilePoint Exchange and it works but doesn't allow two way transfer of iles as i wanted. Then i uninstalled it from my Laptop & PDA and BOOOOM.. I could setup File shares using Resco File Explorer and V-Mobile network Brower on my Wizard. I didn't do anything different.
Now after upgrading to the new ROM the sharing no longer works. I have tried the same trick on installing and uninstalling filepoint but of no use. Has anyone been able to get this working.
My laptop has a Default workgroup and using NetUse and V-Mobile Network Explorer i have made that workgroup as the default workgroup of wizard. Also using pockt hosts i have setup the Hostname and IP mapping. Still it doesn't work. Can someone please help me please please please......
Cheers

I don't NEED it right this second, but it would be nice to know in case I do in the future. Could you tell us what you did?
Well you need a couple of programs as i mentioned in my 1st post. After that you need to change the settings on your card to "Connect to Work instead of internet". also please be sure there are no proxy settings on your Connection settings. Do add your laptop as a host with hostname & ip mapping. I thik you shouldn't have any problems loking up your laptop with Resco explorer or Netuse.

newbie remote desktop user

hello everyone, im a newbie to remote desktop and want to setup my u1000 to conect to my workstaion via wifi and internet as well. i just recently upgraded my u1000s rom ap3.
i could realy use your help pros..
u guys can also direct me to some link to useful info on settngs..
or any other replacement for remote desktop..
im sorry if thess silly questions doesnt needed a thread...
but i desperatly need the settings, as buy u1000 was one of my main praioriities
pls do help me frnds...
thanx in advance..
im no pro but i have it working here!
First off,to use it over the internet you need to make some adjustments on the pc end unless you have a static ip.
got to somewhere like no-ip.com register and d/l the software so you have a way of naming your dynamic ip.
Then you need to ensure that the allow remote connections is enabled on the pc and that your routers ports are forwarded if they need to be(mine did).
Then you should be able to enter the name of your ip (from no-ip.com) and password to logn from the rdp program on your dopod!
It should be similar over wifi on a LAN but instead of the no-ip name you just enter the computer name and password.
Forgive my terrible explanation of the setup but i can never quite explain myself properly.
Their are loads of tutorials on the net for setting up rdp and other tunnelling software like vnc.
have you tried ... ??
Sorry if this doesn't answer your question. However, I wonder if this might help. Check out www.logmein.com. I use it to connect with my desktop and it's free. You can remote adjust the settings to 640x480 and it works well -- even at 800 x 600. It's free!! (you can pay to upgrade to different features, but I never have.)
You might also look at orb.com. I can't get the video streaming to work well at all, but you can (also) connect with files on your computer and download them to your athena. It's also free.
As far as vpn tunneling, I haven't had much luck getting it to work. There's a company called hotspotvpn. Their service is cheap and works great with a regular laptop. They advertise compatibility with windows mobile, but I could never get it to work. I'd love to know if anyone else was able to do vpn tunneling and how.
Hope this helps somehow.
1.) goto www.whatismyipaddress.com that will tell you what your ip address is
2.) if you have a router you need to find out (follow me) you desktop ip not the ip address that the website gave you but the ip address your router gives you.... (you can find this by going to start --> run --> type in cmd hit ok --> then type this in with no quotes "ipconfig /all" hit enter it should be somthing like 192.168.1.1XX or 192.168.0.1XX
3.) goto start menu right --> click on my computer --> click on properties --> click on the remote tab --> half way down click the box under remote desktop
4.) goto router and tell it to open port 3390 to your local ip found in part 2
5.) open rdp on pda and type in ip from part 1

your right, i have two computers i got

remote desktop mobile need help

ok so i have a htc snap and i want to remote desktop i have a linksys router and have configured the routr for port forwarding i still cant connect i really need some help
Hy,
what software do you use?
VNC or what else?
its remote desktop mobile RDM it came on my htc snap
What port have you forwarded, and to what IP?
How are you trying to connect, Wi-Fi, 3G etc?
What IP address are you trying to connect to?
I use RDM all the time. I couple it with "Hamachi Mobile" which is a virtual private network VPN app. I log in with Hamachi, it gives me an IP, and I copy/paste whatever PC's IP i want to connect to in RDM... simple as that
Works very well on my Fuze with 3G.
im using port 3389 forward to my computer ip the router gives it i try logging in using my ip addy i get from websites that tell you your ip addy like ipchicken.com but today i went to canyouseeme.com to check port and cant get thru i still am not sure whats going on im very frustrated any help would be appreciated
@MOD

goodluck
FWIW, I use a program called vncviewer on my Omnia and it works fine. Goes directly to the server seat ip address and I take over that computer. HTH
Make sure in system properties you have checked allow connections from computers running any version of remote desktop and you may need to password protect you computer.
To get real answer just go to ppcgeeks.com this sites has too many annoying people
But what you need to do is go to your linksys page 192.168.1.1
o To Application And Gaming
On the port type in 3389 or start and 3389 for end protocal both and to find out your IP Go To Start - Search Box - Type cmd - Click It - Type "ipconfig" With Out The " " The IPv4 is your IP - Then Click Enable
On Your Phone go to the app
For Computer type in the IP address just got from IPv4
Username of your computer and password of your account
EDIT -- Your problem is you got the wrong IP don't use that IP use the one i showed you on the steps above it should be something like 192.168.*.***
This also helps

But i recommend using realVNC 100x better and with Remote Desktop Mobile you can't use your PC while using it
VNC cost money but if you want a free version just send me a PM
Also if your using vista or Windows 7 its temp. looses your theme when you come back on thats why i use VNC less hassle
Hopes this help remember go to ppcgeeks for answers
try out logmein.com if you have WInMo 6.5 you need to switch the IE back to the old one, its still there you need an app called IEFix.
From IE only:
https://secure.logmein.com/US/pda/Default.asp
Anywayz I love LOGMEIN cuse I can connect to my web servers/home servers and pc's from the same list. and I can monitor when something is offline... RDP and VNC seem faster to navigate, RDP being the fastest, duh?

[Q] File sharing outside network

OK, so right now I've got a folder on a windows xp machine shared across my home network via smb. I want to take this to the next level and be able to access it everywhere. I need to be able to get to it on Android and write access would be nice but not necessary. I've been googling around and all I've been able to gather is that smb is a bad idea. What would be the best way to go about making this happen?

Use the filezilla ftp server, setup the port you want to use and the password and configure everything accordingly. (I can help)
And then setup port forwarding on your router.
Then install "Turbo Ftp Client" from the google play store.
Set it up with the external ip address of your network and the port that you forwarded on your router.
And bam, you could access anywhere.
Google is your friend, but if you've searched and read about the stuff listed above, I will be glad to help guide you.
