Need Help. Need to retreive contacts from pim file without Phone. - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I know I know... The best way is to use a program such as PIM Backup 2.8(actually what I used to back them up in the first place) and restore the contacts using that program.
Here is my dilemma. I threw my HTC Touch through a double paned plate glass window down 3 stories after a heated argument with Sprint.
Now I need to retrieve my contacts from this PIM file and I do not have a PDA phone to extract them.
Any and all help will be appreciated but please, I already know I need to work on my anger management so lets keep those comments to a minimum.
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

Any way to delete Phone contact entries all at once?

Hi, guys, I am a new user at this forum, which I found most useful for a WM-newbie like like me and thank you all for that. I bought my 9100 a while ago and am still experiencing some difficulties in setting it up.
I have been searching through the menus to find a way to delete all my contacts at once. Since I could not find any way to do this and was not willing to do a hard reset just to fix it, the first time I deleted them all one by one...and I had quite a lot of entries back then
Could anyone help me solve this problem in a more sophisticated way? I am about to delete contacts soon and I would rather hard-reset the device, than go through the same procedure ever again.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi,
install the attached CAB to your pocket pc and softreset, now you will find new options in contacts menu "select all" and "delete seleted"
hope this is what you want.
regards
This was exactly what I needed! Thanks a lot, mate! I appreciate it
Now the stylus is marking the contacts like a mouse would on a PC. I wonder why this opition is not a preset one and has to be installed additionally?!
Anyway, you've been of great assistance. I will seriosly reconsider the hard reset now
Best of luck!
Hi...I am afraid this will not solve yr problem. There are 2 ways 2 do it...
1) Use the default File Explorer & rename "pim" to "pim1" & reboot. All PIM Data will be deleted inclusive of all the Tasks & Calendar Entries.
2) Use Pocket Informant...as in addition to above..it allows u to beam all the contacts in one shot.

I have been looking for this for a long time.
Thank you!
Or when it is connected via activesync, open outlook and delete all the contacts there it will sync with the phone and delete the ones on the phone at te same time.....
Believe me, guys, Ammar's .cab file does the job and it's fine by me. Would strongly recommend it!

Export / Backup of Contacts: HTC P3300

Apart from using ActiveSync, is there any way to export the contacts stored on the phone to a PC? I was thinking if there might be a database file that can just be copied out with help of Windows explorer and back again after the phone has been reinstalled / upgraded.
Since I work as an IT Support for a large firm (that owns tons of these P3300's); it'd be great to do this as simple as possible and not mess up my own Address books...
Thanks a lot for your attention!
Try PPC Pim Backup, you can get it from here and its free.

BTW maybe mobile justice is also an nice app for you, Its some kind of theft protection with GPS support
Soololi, you're my saviour! Thanks a bunch for your help
That PIM Backup was exactly what I was looking for..

contacts lost

hey everybody
i think this tread is not the first one for that but i dont know what to do...and i need help and that fast...xD
so i dont know what happened to my pocket opc but it resetet...so now i lost everything!
is there any tool to get my contacts mails and messages back?
or just the contacts? that would be the most important thing...
please help me!
i need them!
thanks
If you saved them with PIMbackup or even ActiveSync you can easily restore them. Otherwise there is no application that I know of that can "undelete" files from the phones memory.

Grabbing contacts from nandroid backup, different rom

i was running modaco 2.2 for a few days, then i installed aosp 1.6 which i like a LOT better. I did a nandroid backup before the 1.6 install, and then did a wipe.
now, is there any way to get my contacts that were backed up with nandroid onto my current rom? i have a backup of modaco and an aosp backup, i need to get JUST the contacts out of my modaco backup...
:/
Try mounting the SD to your computer, going into the nandroid folder, and see what you can find.
- restore your Nandroid backup
- back up your contacts with a known working app (e.g., WaveSecure)
- zap back to the AOSP ROM
In the future, I recommend syncing your contacts with Google... MUCH easier to manage. Pay attention to the "sync groups" option to avoid syncing contacts you don't want.

i was thinking about restoring the backup, then syncing all contacts with google, restoring the 1.6 backup, and importing...
another question real quick; in aosp1.6 how can i get the contacts app that i am used to, that syncs with facebook? is it possible?

I thought syncing with google is one-way. That is, the phone pulls contacts from your google contacts but does not update your google contacts with new numbers/contacts you add on your phone. If I am incorrect, I'd like to know how to keep the contacts both on my phone and google in sync.

I can add as a google contact on my phone when I log in later online its their...its how several of my contacts have been put into Gmail. Also, when I need to add a new one with lots of contact info I type it on at the gmail website, then it appears on my phone shortly after.
I think that appointments are only one way.

Appointments sync both ways.
Syncing contacts with google is your friend, even if you don't like the idea of backing up contacts in the clouds. I'd suggest making backups online and on your desktop. A little overkill, but you never know if you'll lose one or the other

On your phone open up your contacts app and using the trackball scroll to the right until you highlight "groups". From there, you can press Menu and be given the options to sync whichever contacts you want. Now, since your contact list is already establish you'll have to do some re-arranging so everything is organized both on the phone and online.

A new answer to an old question...
If I should just leave this thread alone and make a tutorial, let me know. I was searching for the answer to the question in the OP, and when I couldn't find an answer, I just messed with it for a while. This is for anyone else who ever is looking for this and does a search that pulls this up like I did...
1) Be rooted, have a root file explorer on your phone, and have 7zip on your computer,
2) Put your SD with the Nandroid backup in your computer. Open the backup with 7zip.
3) In 7zip open the data.ext4.tar file.
4) Navigate to ~/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
5) Pull the databases folder out of the Nandroid backup
Now that you have the databases folder out of the backup, you need to push that to your phone. There are several ways to do this, (adb etc...) but here is one way.
1) Plug your phone in to your computer and enable USB Mass Storage.
2) Drag the folder into your phone somewhere where you will be able to find it.
3) Use your root file explorer to copy the databases folder from your backup, and replace the current databases folder located at ~/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
VIOLA!
When you open your contacts, all your old contacts from the Nandroid backup will be there.
*** Please let me know if I should put this somewhere else. I know resurrecting an old thread isn't usually good, as it doesn't help the OP. I can post a tutorial if needed, just let me know what forum to put it in, I am new around here. Hopefully this will help someone in the future who has this question. I wasn't able to find it anywhere.
wow your an idiot thx for bumping a thread thats over a year and this shouldnt even matter u can back up all your contacs on your sd card or through your google acount so epic fail for u
Wow man, I already said sorry in advance for pulling up an old thread. There are times where your fancy little backup idea doesn't work out, especially if it isn't your phone, or its too late... I searched for a long time for a way to do this and didn't find anything.
If my post didn't help you, that's your loss, but don't flame me for trying to help guys in the future...
And your fail comment doesn't quite account for all situations. Chill out and be a little more receptive. I'm new to the forums, and that right there makes we want to say "screw helping people" --- I don't think this is the message you would like to send to new members of a forum that you might ask questions on some day.
I'll take my advice elsewhere... As for you, go read a forum that helps you and quit flaming me.
Can we have a moderator delete my original post? Clearly it wasn't appreciated.

Dude, I needed this exact procedure tonight. Way faster than a backup/restore/restore, even if your backup works. So we can both be idiots together, I guess. Thanks!!

[Q] Contacts file/folder

Hey, im new to this site and i just had my HTC HD2 go completely unresponsive. The touch screen doesnt work, and i have contacts that i inputed and did not copy to my SIM card as a back up. My question is, does anyone know where this folder/file is located on the phone? i have access to my phone via my computer but it won sync my contacts with outlook. im trying to get these numbers before i have to return my phone back to TMO for the HD7 they are sending me. any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
contacts
no one knows how to do this? any help is greatly appreciated thanks
For contacts you want the pim.vol file found in devices root memory.
Few threads on this if you do a search.
I have used WM device emulator to load a pim.vol before & then use apropriate tools to export to CSV or what ever format you require to import to other devices/applications.
You can also try using MyMobiler (link in my Sig) & perhaps try waking your device up without using endcall key can help work around unresponsive screen issues ...
