Just received my Touch, I'm a bit confused... - Touch GSM General

I just switched from a TyTN and while it's charging I'm downloading my applications again and backing up my TyTN's PIM.
There's only one problem now: I'm a noob again!
I got used to the Hermes tool (went through 3 TyTNs) but now everything is different. I don't need to change carrier, but I don't want the Rogers ROM. I got the ROM but not the unlocker.
Can anyone point me to an unlocker for the Elfin? I used the search button but it's pretty confusing.

Please help upgrade Prophet/ overcome CID (VendorID) error

First of all THANK YOU all of the Great Minds of XDA Developers for all the support and great work you do for us!
a lot of your work, support and software and advice has been priceless help!
Any way no ass kissing here, just wanted to say thank you. ...and ask for help. As you probably know, there has been a lot of problems and issues with Prophet. (and very little or NO support and from manufacture and from providers. and there is not much available from xda developers forum users on this device. Though there has been great amount of support on any other devices. which has made me a happy user of Magician. But to cut it short, PLEASE HELPPPPPPP with Prophet!!! I can't reflash my XDA Neo with new WWE rom due to CID (vendor ID) error! It comes with german rom and I don't read german but love the phone! (and stuck with 2 year contract!) I tried aWisard utility numerus times in hopes that it would work despite the design for different device. I tried all kinds of roms available out there with no luck. and ofcourse HTC or O2 wouldn't help in any way! (different O2 support
techs said to me that I couldn't flash my Magician with WWE rom becouse it would kill the device! And I had it flashed in all the possible languages!) Any way, my magician is now a history (sold) and my new prophet is great pain in a ass!
Do you guys think you could help all of the xda community (and unlucky suckers) out here and help us overcome CID error so we can update/change our roms? (and screw the HTC, Qtek, Imate and O2 for such a poor support!)
I would greatly appreciate it! and it goes from all of us!
hi aleksandr
Just go the link below and follow the instruction to unlock the CID.
I just upgraded my 818 Pro to JAMin ROM, run very smoothly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386
Hi, thank you very much for the reply! I did try this option but I have a little problem with Wisard program. I ran all the commands, enabled rapi, backed up my rom, ran unlock CID command, it returned "success" line, but when I try option -w- to write new rom into my prophet and get to "select OS rom file" where it saids to enter numbers only I don't know what to enter in the command line since the program doesn't have any roms listed in the command line screen. I've tried entering the rom release number, I even tried renaming rom to a number and I have placed the rom nk.nbf file in all the possible folders including "rom" in the program directory. but stil, once I hit enter, the command line window shuts down. could you advise?
and I did put the aWizard folder and rom file in the root directory on c:... tried d: too... stil, no result
Hi Alek,
Try this....
You now have a device that is CID unlocked, exit aWizard and locate the downloaded RUU update you now wish to load to your device. You should not need to use aWizard to do the flashing, just use the aWizard program to unlock the CID from the device.
I too have a Dopod 818Pro and I successfully flashed it to the new I-Mate JAMin ROM. All I used aWizard for was to unlock the CID on the Dopod 818Pro then exited aWizard and just used the downloaded RUU update.
Regards,
voyager
Thanks voyager, I guess you're very fast typist
Hi aleksandr,
Did you did an ActiveSync with your Prophet first then run the aWizard? For me I just run aWizard to enable RAPI and unlock the CID on my 818 Pro. Then I just double click on the latest JAMin ROM exe file, it detect my 818 Pro without any problem.

well, I tried just to CID unlock it with aWisard, got "successful" message and then I ran about 10 different upgrades from different providers, qtek, Imate, etc, and still got the wrong vender message!

I usualy ran after sync, since the aWisard said it has to be fully ran. I will try it now!
Thank you! hopefully with all of your support I'll get the nedded results! Thanx!!
ok, just tried enable rapi with active sync off, the aWisard reopened and reastablished connection, but it still not finding the rom file.
wait a minute, does the rom file has to be in .nbf format or .nba?!
I'm looking right now for Extend Tool (64HTC Extended ROM Tool) and will convert the rom rom to nba file and see what happends.
man, I wonder how it worked for you just running unlock CID command and upgrading with the upgrade file!
Alek,
You already unlocked the CID from your device did you not? Your first post said you got a success message.
Put your device on the cradle or plug in the usb cable. Let ActiveSync do its thing then after the sync just double click on the RUU update you want to install. Follow the install wizard (NOT aWIZARD) of the RUU update. You do not need aWizard any longer to update the ROM, just use the RUU update you downloaded.
post if you need further help.

Alek, one more thing ... you do realize that by doing this, you will wipe your device clean (hard reset) and you will need to load everything from scratch. If you use a back up program like Sprite or SPB backup YOU CAN NOT USE THAT BACKUP once you do this!!! You will be loading everything from scratch.
Just letting you know!!

OK Alek,

yep! I do know this.. thank you though! I had an experience with Magician on that but I guess it's not much help with prophet though!
I haven't installed anything on this device yet.. just played with ExtRom, unlocked it and deleted O2 staff out of it just to see if I can do it But I do want to get the right OS in here first and then I'll worry about the rest of programs..
you guys wouldn't happen to have Extend Tool (64HTC Extended ROM Tool)would you? I'm visiting my family and I'm on my brothers PC dont have all my staff with me,and can't seem to find it on the XDA FTP
:?: What 64HTC Extended ROM tool are you referring to? If you're on your brothers computer do you have an ActiveSync connection to YOUR device? If so, is all synced up with your Outlook profile etc...?
First I need to know which Prophet you have (Dopod 818Pro, I-Mate JAMin or Q-Tek S200).
First let me say this, if you have a Q-Tek S200, I don't think you are going to be able to upgrade the ROM. I have seen several threads here that indicate that somehow Q-Tek S200 is permanently locked and that the aWizard program will NOT work on it no matter what, (or at least until some geneius here figures it out
Please let me know

Hey, thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
ok, I have XDA Neo, German Version
rom 2.9.4.30 GER
rom date 2.14.06
protocol 413.1.03
ExtRom 2.9.4.120
First I have unlocked ExtRom with Wizards Utility
Then I tried to reflash the device to WWE rom with different upgrade utilities from different venders, tried Qtek s200,it didn't work, reterned wrong Vender ID error, then Imate- same result, then Dopod, using diferent RUU wizards, including Wizard Rom Upgrade Utility NoID.
still, no luck..
then I tried aWizard,
first I ran Rapi enable
second I made a back up of my own rom,
then Unlock CID,
then tried writing rom using aWisard, didnt work, aWizard doesn't finds any roms(and the program and rom are in the root directory of c
then tried just unlocking the CID and use Upgrade Wizards again, still, no luck!
tried praying, that didn't help either!
thinking about beer now! But I don't think that would help either
I did sync with PC and outlook.. activeSync4.1
I even tried flashing it with Danish rom, that I couldn't install it either..(I've read on XDA that flashing danish rom first than and only than I could try it to put WWE in to it. well, that didn't work either)
I tried running all possible rom upgrades that are available, and always got wrong vender id error.
even after aWizard reported that my rom was unlocked!
so I have no Idea what else I can try!
may be getting drunk and "sync it in the toilet"!
If we get this to work, you owe me a beer!!! OK, here's what I need you to do...
1) I tried researching this board for any signs of the O2 Neo being permanently locked like the Q-Tek S200, could find NOT anything. (edited, could NOT find anything)
2) Do you have a copy of the I-Mate JAMin RUU update on your brothers computer? If so great, if not, go get it. Try the latest one that came out yesterday.
3) Once you have this I-Mate JAMin ROM (save it to the Desktop for easy finding later) let me know.
4) Also, make sure you have ActiveSync 4.1 and it is set up and you have synced at least once with it. It doesn;t matter at this point what PIM info is on it since its going buh bye ina while, I just need it synced with a REAL partnership, not Guest.
Let me know when you have all these things done...
voyager
you've got the deal on bear! all you can drink! I'll bring you the german staff on my next visit to states!
any way, got it all! Imate jamin rom and sync has been done!
OK,
1) do a soft reset on the device. Once the device is fully up again, plug the usb cable in and let ActiveSync do its thing.
2) Open aWizard. Run the Rapi deal again. After that run the unlock CID.
3) If you get a success message after the unlock CID, CLOSE aWizard.
DO NOT UNPLUG THE NEO FROM THE USB!!! Let me know when this is done.
I found your 64HTC Tool:

Alright. That's what I was hoping you would say. Your 2.25 IPL/SPL means you have a G3 which is the only model that can be CID unlocked and CID unlocking is the only way you're getting T-Mobile firmware on your 8125.
Lets begin. You really hope you are VERY GOOD(better than very good preferably). The first step in your adventure is to downgrade your device from a 2.25 IPL using the button rom. You want to make sure your device is connected to your PC via ActiveSync or first put your device into bootloader mode by turning it off and then holding the camera button while powering it back on.
Now your device should have an IPL, GSM, and OS that is less than 2.
Now you want to download lokiwiz from here
Make sure your device is connected to your computer via USB cable but do not sync!! CANCEL ACTIVESYNC SETUP BEFORE CONTINUING
Unrar Lokiwiz and run the program lokiwiz v.02b I'm guessing your device is already sim unlocked since you are using a Cingular device with T-Mobile so you can go ahead and click C and then enter. Lokiwiz will CID unlock your phone and then automatically soft reset the device.
When your device powers back on, it will be CID unlocked.
Your next step is to flash the T-Mobile official rom that can be found here.
And now if you did everything correctly, you should now have the official T-Mobile WM5 rom and 2.26 IPL/SPL instead of 2.25. The extended rom, also included with the T-Mobile official rom, will automatically configure your netwok settings so you will also have the T-Mobile EDGE network and all MMS settings will be automatically configured for you.
Now this step is optional but highly reccomended. I reccommend you flash the IPL/SPL 3.08 for faster boot times. It flashes just like any other RUU so it is easy to use. You can download that here.
I really hope this helps you. Please post your results whether good or bad so I know if I was able to help.
NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR FROM USING THIS METHOD. This method is proven to work and I personally did exactly this same thing to my own phone with no problems.
Will do it today
Thanks very much. I already have my 8125 CID unlocked and SIM unlocked. Yes, I'm moderately good. .LOL.
I will try this today and post the results right after. Also, no worries, you are not liable for any damage that I might cause but fairly certain this will work.
Jay.
IT WORKED!!!
Dan, thanks very much for your clear instructions. It worked like a charm. You're a genius! My 8125 is running IPL/SPL 3.08 now.. I have to reinstall my apps (like ms voice commander, tcpmp etc.). Great work!

Upgrade Instructions!

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone could please give even some brief instructions on how to go about flashing an XDA Orbit with Artemis_Touch_4.01_Full.
I have searched but there just doesn't seem to be any step by step guide. I'm running WM6 and have a Vista based pc with the above ROM downloaded, but can't figure out how to go about flashing and don't want to brick my phone.
Any help woud be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Ok its pretty easy enough. First u gotta make your Orbit "unlocked". This is done by flashing USPL to it (which I guess stands for "Upgraded Service Provider Lock" or something like that). This will also make it CID unlocked (which I guess stands for "Country ID" or whatever). Anyway doesnt really matter what they stand for.
Once this is done, you can now flash your ROM to your Orbit because there shouldnt be any locks in the way stopping you.
....Meschle has made these steps pretty simple in all of his ROMs.
1 - connect your Orbit to your PC and make sure it connects to ActiveSync OK
2 - if the ROM is in a .rar then extract it and run "STEP 1 - activesync then uspl cid unlocking.bat"
3 - once thats done and you have followed the instructions that appear and your Orbit has been reset (or rebooted, whatever), reconnect to PC and ActiveSync again, then run "STEP 2 - activesync then flash artemis touch rom.bat"
....and there you go, once everything is finished and your Orbit is rebooted, you now have a brand new ROM on your Orbit. This will wipe your data (much like formatting your hard drive with a new operating system) so make sure to backup. And maybe try running "STEP 2 - activesync then flash artemis touch rom.bat" two or three times, sometimes it helps.
thanks fubofo for easy instruction, i have orbit with wm5 and to unlock i use this

I think SPL means Service Provider Lock (like O2 or Orange) or something like that. USPL is basically a patched SPL that you write to your Orbit. Just follow the instructions on that post and when your Orbit restarts, just check (at the very start, in top left corner in red font) that the SPL displays 1.11. If it does then your unlocked and ready for flashing new ROMs
thanks fubofo for your instructions,
i done that and its working perfect, just one more question, what if i want to change with some other rom can i do this?

Unlocking a Cingular 8525 to use on T-Mobile

Hey guys, first post! I google'd "How to unlock 8525" and I am overwhelmed by everything that's on it. Can someone give me some clear answers on how to unlock the Cingular branded 8525, so I may use it on my T-Mobile network? Sorry if the answer is obvious, but I've read so much stuff that I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance guys!
First make a note of your radio rom - settings>system>device info.
Then use this to unlock your Hermes (You'll need to read a bit too...) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
THEN Hard SPL your phone (use ver7. After you finish your SPL will be 2.10 olipro) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
I like to use the sd card method of flashing this as its safer and you don't get sync errors like the pc. Also no little "accidents" to brick your nice new, EXPENSIVE toy... Look on page 116, post 1160 for instructions and needed apps...
You can then put a new radio rom or whatever OS you like on it... I use the sd card method here too BUT just leave out steps 5 & 6 from the sd card method for installing Hard SPL (don't need sspl.exe).
Cheers...
And Welcome.....
Thanks for all that What OS and radio choices do I have though? What are the pro's and con's of each? Thanks in advance!
Radio roms are area and carrier specific. Thats why I said to make sure you know what your old one is. Unlocking your phone will downgrade your radio to 1.16.xx.xx This is neede to unlock your phone.
Flashing the radio is RISKY. If something gos wrong then 9 times out of 10 you have a brick, and the 10th time you have divine intervention to get it going again... Its best to find a good radio rom and don't flash again unless you know its gonna be better...
As for OS roms, go to the Hermes WM06 forum. There are plenty of roms there that are cooked by our brilliant chefs.. I believe there is a post at the top showing you some of the later ones. DON'T bother asking whats best though because a rom choice is a personal preference... What I like and what you like may be 2 VERY different things...
Make sure you have Hard SPL ver 7 installed and (especially for the radio rom where you DON'T want any interruptions) use the sd card method.
As Wam7's quote says - Flashing your ROM without HARDSPL is like going to a South African brothel without any condoms...
and not flashing with a MicroSD Card is like walking into a prison, dropping your pants and yelling "come and get it boys!" jdc
Cheers...
Thanks I saw a picture that showed the processors mhz, and it seemed to let you downclock it, where can I get that? Also, what are some useful programs and such to have?
Hi, here's some great info reference by veyka for U:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Well...
I'll be honest with you. I had this little dilemma not too long ago and discovered that unless you want to pay close to $50.00 to get it unlocked from one of those unlocker sites, you MUST request from AT&T to process your subsidy unlock code. Almost all wireless carriers that sell phones with their branded name on the device or on the splash screen are locked to that specific carrier, for marketing or whatever the company desires. You must obtain your IMEI number, (just enter *#06# on your keypad) call AT&T customer service, request a subsidy unlock code, (just tell them you plan on using the device overseas and are not interested in their overseas calling plan they will then try to sell you) and wait about 1-2 weeks for an email reply. Trust me when I say this, AT&T has NO IDEA what the code is or what the status is once they have submitted the request. It is transferred to their "Tier III" tech support division, which is why it takes so long to respond. Just wait it out, and your patience will pay off when you receive the email. I'm sure you know that once you get the unlock code, all you must do then is insert a SIM from any carrier other than AT&T, reboot, and your hermes will prompt you to enter subsidy unlock code. It is usually either an 8 or 9 digit code. Be careful when entering, as too many wrong attempts will "Brick" your device. It is then you will be able to use T-mobile's service. I also had my number ported to T-mobile's network...All you have to do for that is ask T-mobile(Don't tell AT&T) to port your number for you and ther's not a damn thing AT&T can do about it. Now. As far as ROM flashing is concerned, I had to learn by thumbing through the wiki, anf forums and making many posts like yourself. First, as described by ultramag, you MUST install HardSPLv7 on your phone. once that's done and you have verified via your bootloader screen (pwr+ok+reset sw) It should say something along the lines of HERM100 IPL-1.04/HERM100 SPL-2.10.Olipro-----> Then you can start looking at flashing ROMs. Don't worry about flashing Radio ROM, that's not necessary. Any questions, send me a msg.... Good luck flashing!!!
Thank you, both the Sim unlock and Hard SPL thingy went well. At least the process of downloading and executing the programs. Both processes stated successfull completions once I figured how to to run them properly. 1 attempt on unlock, and I didn't quite understand the instructions the first time through on Hard SPL, but the 2nd time one the on-screen popped on the device it was simple enough.
Once I test with my sim card later today I'll give the total thumbs up, but so far so good before I go "ROM shopping".
Oh and its a Cingular 8525 that I'll be using on T-Mobile (Herm100)
Just make sure when you Hard SPL your Hermes the SPL is changed to 2.10 oli.
You need to use Hard SPL V7. Its the latest and safest version.
If you unlocked your Hermes then you might be using an older, not so safe version of Hard SPL which may not help you to unbrick your Hermes if, god forbid, anything goes wrong with the flash.
Just a piece of advice..
Cheers...
How can I tell it's unlocked?
I have both an 8525 and a Tilt. I "unlocked" the 8525 using a program I downloaded from here, and the Tilt using the modified radio rom approach.
I took the 8525 to a T-Mobile store, and when we put the new sim chip in, it wouldn't work, it wanted an unlock code. I haven't tried the Tilt yet and before I do (The clerk at the store hinted that she thought I was a crook of some sort for having an unlocked phone with the Cingular logo on it) I would like to be SURE it's unlocked.
Is there some kind of test I can perform, or a registry key I can check or something to verify the unlock really worked? The program I ran to unlock the 8525 (Herm_Unlock_v3) gave no errors and stated that "Device SIM/Network lock removed!" - but obviously it wasn't.
So, how can I check before I go back to the store, that the devices are really unlocked?

Debranding a T-Mobile UK HD2

Hello All,
I have flashed my T-Mobile UK branded HD2 with an official HTC ROM using the GoldCard method and then to several Cooked ROMs using HSPL.
Does this mean my phone is now unbranded and I can flash other HTC Official ROMs without using the GoldCard method? i.e. how someone would flash an unbranded HD2 bought say from somewhere like mobilephonesdirect.
I'm aware my phone is still locked to the T-Mobile network which I'm fine with. My question is purely to do with removing T-Mobile's customizations.
I'm really asking because I want to be able to flash a valid HTC ROM to my device if the following happens:
I install HSPL
I flash my device to a cooked ROM
Something goes wrong
I can't get active sync to work/device won't boot into windows
I need to go back to official ROM for warranty
Cheers,
mac
If you use hspl no need for goldcard at all. you can flash anything from usb with hspl, official or cooked.
You dont need the phone to be booted to flash over usb. Boot to bootloader, connect usb, run the flash.
Thanks Sam,
I was under the impression you had to be connected via active sync to FLASH using HSPL (at least that's what the instructions say when using the tool).
But I still would like to be able restore my to a warranty friendly state.
Is my phone unbranded once I've flashed with the GoldCard or must I use the it every time I want to flash without HSPL?
Thanks,
mac

Yea thats a common mistake caused by the way the guides, and various other answers in threads are written.
When you connect the phone in bootloader mode, so long as the word serial changes to usb you should be good to go.
But I still would like to be able restore my to a warranty friendly state.

Of course. You have two ways
1 (for both methods)- download the tmo original official rom, official roms thread, 1st post, 1st link, 1.43 folder.
then either
2 - extract the nbh file, copy it to sd card (no need for goldcard, stock 2gb card will be fine) rename leoimg.nbh then start phone in bootloader to flash.
OR
3 - STEP 1 - run the t mo stock you downloaded and flash over usb, which restores the rom to stock, and then STEP 2 - run HSPL2 again and choose the stock spl. (HSPL has 8 spl's listed when you run it, 4 stock and 4 hspl,) Choose 1.43.0000 and thats it, back to stock.
Is my phone unbranded once I've flashed with the GoldCard or must I use the it every time I want to flash without HSPL?

That doesnt really make sense. As soon as you flash any method, the phone is then unbranded. removing the tmo rom is unbranding.
What YOU mean is ''is the phone rom unlocked?' and the answer is no, it will always be rom locked to tmo, (different to sim lock) so if you want to flash without hspl then you will need the goldcard.
Cheers Sam,
That answers my question. HSPL it is.
Is there a way of removing the ROM Lock?

only hspl. nothing permanent. (well, hspl IS permanent till you remove it, but you know what I mean)
Am i reading this correctly? You are saying that HSPL removes network sim lock?
I need to know whether i will be able to unlock my T Mobile UK HD2 on 1.42 SPL, after a HSPL flash and i have put another ROM on my phone.
Is there any way that flashing can remove the sim lock or prevent me from being able to unlock my phone?
no you miss read the post. rom lock is not sim lock.they're unconnected.
Can anyone answer this, so i can get on with it?

Off Topic, but, a word of advice (and to all who may read this).
I have noticed a few of your posts asking stuff that is readily available in the stickies at the head of each forum section.
Things like unlock and memory available etc.
If you really want to know these things then read all the stickies, then search and then ask if you are still in the dark.
Jumping in with questions that have been asked many times over is not a great way to get the attention of members.
Remeber the stickies are there for a reason.
