None of the MP3 players I've tried (free or paid for) have the following feature:
When a new track plays, a small pop-up window at the bottom of the screen appears for say 5 seconds, with the track name and a skip button.
I use my PDA for sat nav in the car and this would be useful for it to appear momentarily over the navigation screen.
Can anyone conjour up such a feature on a simple MP3 player - or point me to one that has it?
Thanks.
Have you tried Pocket Player? I believe it does something similiar to that.
I've got PocketPlayer and I've not come across this function. Not that I have actually looked for it as yet . Where can I find it?
Would be a good idea though. When you have your nav on you get a little pop up on the screen telling you what the title of the music track you're listening to.
I'll download it and have a play.
Yeah, a little musical note appears in the taskbar and if you tap it it, it shows what's playing and gives a all the basic functions too (play, pause fff, rwd, and so on)
Why not use Msvc?

Yeah, this is what I found - no good when the sat nav is full screen, as the musical note isn't there - I need it to pop up on every new track, so I can decide to bin it or not.

That's a good one, not played with the voice command option - you think it would work with the background noise of some cheesy MP3 track I never knew I had and want to skip?
I'll try and see what happens, in the meantime, if anyone comes up with anything let me know.

hi all,
any s/w available for having video ringtones on wm5 ?
why would you want video ringtones?
Something eye catching for deaf people?
it looks cool...so is nethin 4 tht available ?
time to keep this post on the top of the thread. someone please code this up before apple takes credit for one more thing.

it would be nice to see it in a program like S2U.

If I could work out how to capture calls, I'd give it a shot... But, I haven't worked it out yet!
I hate Apples marketing lies too!
VERY DOPE IDEA.....someone please hop on this
ya for real i will donate or pay. we need something way cool to shut the iphone people up. video ringtones
maybe itll be easier to start with animated flash or gif instead of full vdeio clips? very interesting idea indeed!
If you could capture the incoming call
the all that woyld be needed is like tcpmp to play full screen video
or even wmp instead of audio ringtone
With 2 buttons Ignore and answer
And of course the caller ID info displaying
I havet written code in 10 yrs and I was never that good
i wish i was though
This is a great idea
But sprint phones had Video Ringtones like 5 years ago
On the sanyo mm500
So APPLE didnt revolutionize sh**
But WinMo can make it BETTER!!!
Apple are not revolutionary, and this is done by a seperate company anyway...
I'll package up a very basic call capturer as a test to see if it works in theory... Then I'll try and embed some form of media player...
could we maybe modify photo app by removing limitations (picture format),so it can play gif's as someone mentioned....or maybe a plug-in will be enough....it'll just take to make a plug-in
I was just wondering yesterday why WM phones can't do this. Seeing that a lot of non-smartphones can do it. I don't really mind since it's kind of pointless. I have S2U2 showing who's calling me, which is actually useful.
I think this is a cool idea, not sure that I would use it, but nevertheless..nice idea
Here's a quick test app to see if it's possible to intercept the calls...

I've got a newbie media-related question, and searches haven't yielded the specific answer that I'm looking for (though maybe I haven't searched the right device forum, yet):
What is the best way to use my new Sprint Touch as an MP3 player? To answer that question I guess I'm really asking the following questions:
What is the best plugin to get a handy player for easy play/pause and prev/next track selection (like the original HTC Touch media hub, or the tab on the 6-tab HTC Home)?
Is there a way to play music without the screen staying turned on? From what I can tell the Windows Media app keeps the screen on as long as it is playing music. I would like the screen to shut off and then spring back to life if tapped/power button pressed/whatever. Hopefully the answer to #1 will support this as well.
I don't want a new HTCHome.dll since I just got my Sprint one patched to point to a different weather server to get local weather.
I also have been reading about the 'Touch Settings' program and am interested in giving that a spin as well, though I can't tell if it will help me other than to make launching the player more handy.
Thanks in advance...

sprint removed the original htc audio manager which is quite good and has a today plugin. you can get the original htc apps from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
I've installed this audio manager and the plugin on my sprint touch and they work great.
For turning off the screen, I usually just let mine turn off on its own (since it actually will when using audio manager). If you want to force the screen off yourself, just grab a freeware app called ScreenToggle and map it to your camera button or today screen.

Yes, that is EXACTLY the info that I was looking for...I just installed both the audio manager and the home plugin and love them both. The home plugin doesn't take up too much screen space, so it will work great for me. The screen doesn't appear to be shutting off while using the plugin, either, so will try ScreenToggle if I can't find another setting/option to have it shut off automatically. THANK YOU retrobits!
You can also map a button from within WMP (such as the center button) to toggle the screen off/on. It is under one of the menu options for settings.

That's cool...works great if I want to use WMP instead of the plugin. Unfortunately, even though it appears that the home plugin is launching and using WMP rather than the audio manager, the button that I associate with the screen off/on toggle doesn't work from the homepage...I've got to switch to WMP for it to work. That may be good enough for me, though...thanks for the tip.

Bluetooth headphones have control buttons, so you dont need onscreen ones, and on my GSM Touch at least, as well as my Kaiser, I can switch of the screen with the power button without interrupting audio playback when using A2DP.

Surur...I just got my Bluetooth headphones today, and when listening to my music off of my Touch with them the music quits if I press the power button. Can you describe further how I can get this to work so that the music continues to play? And of course maybe this is a difference between the GSM Touch and the "Sprint" Touch/Vogue, but hopefully not.

Sorry, I dont know why it works, but it just does. Just tested it again with my Moto S9's, and it works perfectly. When I use the power button the screen goes off, but the music keeps playing. Worked in Audio Manager, WMP and TCMP.
Its probably a simple registry setting which some-one more knowledgeable can tease out.

is it the bluetooth remote buttons (AVRCP) that is the issue? I may just be a remapping of the buttons from your media player.

The remote buttons on my bluetooth headset work great for me...no problems there. The issue is that when I use my Sprint Touch (Vogue) as an mp3 player I want the screen to turn off without the music stopping when pressing the power button so as to conserve battery life.
For now I'm using the WMP feature to toggle the screen on and off as needed.
I have been using TCPMP 0.72RC1 on my Wizard for some time now and this has the option to set a button on your device (whichever one (except for the on/off button)) to toggle the srceen off and on.
be aware though, I use this option to safe battery life. The other buttons still work when the screen is off, so skipping songs etc is still possible without the screen being on.

Thanks for the tip, kato. I've also done the same with with WMP, though when I pause a song via my bluetooth headset the screen turns back on...otherwise it's working pretty well. I'll have to check out TCPMP sometime...
Is there an alternative to the original htc volume screen ?
I would prefer something simpler that will not go into full screen every time a change the volume. Something like in the windows media player would be awesome.
Damn, I thought this was a real app for a minute. Nice mock up
Me too
Needed to change the title so that others don't fall for it as well
The volume control included with S2U2 takes the whole screen, but can be transparent. Try it.

I was very intrigued by the development of 'Seismo' application...which can detect vibration.
This is just an IDEA for a fun application.....and maybe...just maybe useful....
I'm sure u can isolate and identify the harder vibrations. With that said, lets say i left my diamond somewhere on my table...and
1) i TAP on the table twice....and my Diamond makes a noise in response...letting me know its location.
Or maybe i have it in my pocket...
2)Tap once while the music is playing to change the track....or to silent a call...or to ignore it...
and i'm sure this could be used for alot of other things.....let me know what u guys think..
Its a simple suggestions...if this is worth any of ur time....i would love to see an application like this.
Peace...
nice idea!
hope someone will create this!
That's a nice idea There could be a problem with detecting the taps, but I'm really looking forward to such an app.

I am ready to develop the app. I have already downloaded the code for siesmo and changing it. But I am still trying to think of a really useful reason this app will accomplish.
So if people here can contribute and come up with some real reason.. it would be nice...
i mean I will still work on this irrespective ... and then may be share some code ...
ciao...
Maybe switching the screen on/off? I mean it would be good to get fast some info on missed calls/unread sms by taping the table
- answer a incoming call (and automatical switch the speakerphone on?!)
- next/prev track in s2p/music-tab/wmp
- chance profile (vibrate/mute/..)
- dismiss reminders/sms/calls and stuff
- find the phone on the desk
But probably this app should work only if Diamond is lying on a table - Gsensor in horizontal position I don't want my phone to do strange things when I walk with it in my pocket

true!
That could also be preventable (most of the time) by instead of using one tap (fairly common occurance by chance) to three/or more taps.
The best use would really be to mute (music/mic/ring), while in pocket. That would really be useful. Just tap...tap...tap... and its mute.
Won't this kill your batteries? I mean you would have to poll the g sensor all the time in the background for it to work.
Also there is already G Trigger which could be configured to do something similar.

I agree +1
Honestly i am still trying to find a good reason for this idea....
I am sure that if the code was written and could be made to do stuff with say a mort script, that people would find all kinds of unimaginable things that they could do with it!
I'm loving the feedbacks....
...like the issue with the battery.....very true..
but Seismo App .. was a battery drainer...but it was fun..
.We'll make it only poll if you run the application....it can still be useful...
say for instance ur studying and you were listening to songs on ur phone hooked up to the speakers...and you want to quickly change tracks...or ignore the call so u can keep listening....
or you studying and you wanna make notes of what ur reading...u tap once/twice..it starts recording..."note to self....blah blah blah " Tap again to end...
or Tap twice to run Microsoft Voice Command...
If it's not going to take too much effort..i really think its worth a try....i wish i could develop...i know i can do graphics...so i'll be helpful in that field...
peace,
Solidkundi
You know a new game from the wii - they had an idea with the tabs : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYiYzrSuyFs
Perhaps something like that - we hav the controler and the monitor in one device
So many uses!
Just imagine, one tap for pause, 2 for next song, 3 for prev. song.
Double tap the table and it lights up and shows notifications.
Would be wicked!
Or...
If you've got your phone in your pocket while playing music, and you want next song you tap one time against your pocket (with the phone in it).
Your phone recognizes it and plays the next song. If you tap twice, it plays the previous song. Of course you can make more combinations!
The reason why this could be very handy, is because it's very annoying to pull your phone out of your pocket if you want it to play another song.
A bit the same idea but then in your pocket...
damn right.....especially when the phone has silicone casing...
even when i get a call..and its in my pocket..it'll take me soo long sometimes i miss a call...no joke.. if i can answer it just by tapping on it...that'll be nice...so i can tell them to hold on for 5 minz. then struggle to take out the phone in my pocket.
Here's a video of samsung s8000 Jet...it can regonize taps on the phone.........maybe they're using the same method we're trying to achieve

Never heard of it.
Its an internet radio app, that lets the user type in artists that they like and then the app streams the songs to them based on their selection.

I have an Excalibur right now and it is a non-touchscreen phone that works with this app. Have you tried using the directional pad in the TP2's keyboard for navigation?
I have contacted Pandora before and they said that they are working on a .cab that will work on any Windows Phone. I'm guessing that it will be released once the Marketplace is open. Until then, maybe one of these will work with the TP2 (attached)

Yes, the sound quality is 64 kbps aac I think so I would imagine that it doesn't sound that good. At least this is a working solution. In the furture when the official pandora.cab comes out I belive that it will be 64kbps aac+ which equates to 128kbps aac.

You have to find the Pandora exe in Program Files hold your finger down on it till a menu appears and hit copy. Then Navigate to My Device-->Windows-->Start Menu-->Programs in this folder scroll to the botton and right below the last file hold your finger down in the empty spot so no file is selected and when the menu pops up select paste shortcut.

When you say disable locking app, it will work. Can you elaborate a little more. I don't have any other lock app except the default WM lock which I dont use at all and Pandora will still stop when device sleeps.
