Battery is losing capacity... ;( - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hi,
In the last month or two my battery is losing capacity. I can drain out the battery in half a day, when I am working a lot on Athena, for example HSDPA, reboot, phone calls (1h),... but this was not a case before. Usually with “normal” usage I could get the Athena running for a couple of days (3, sometimes 4). Now, when watching a movie or making a phone call the battery drains out about 10 to 20% in couple of minutes. Sometimes it goes from 30% to 5% in just a few minutes. Yes, BT is on always, Wifi amost never. I turn off the data connection completely when I stop using it. All in all the battery is new empty in a day or in a day and a half.
I am really handling my battery with care – so I think. I usually charge it when it is almost or completely drain out and then charge it fully. Athena is 1.5years old with OEM battery.
Is there any way to check the battery capacity or a application which will monitor consumption (or a electrical current)? (I think I read somewhere of such a application??). What do you suggest?
Thx,
Uros
P.s. A recently switched from irus 0mb PP ROM to michy's 4.1 ROM. I find no difference in battery consumption...

Is it possible some application is turning on Wifi or GPS? Either will kill the battery within hours.
However, with 1.5 years on the battery I think your problem is age. I think others on here have had issues after a year. I'm coming up on a year next month and already notice a slight decrease in capacity. Try buying a new battery, worst case you have it as a spare.

How long does YOUR battery last...?!

Now, I know that it depends on what programs are running, like... whether you have any minimized or in the background, but on an average 1500 mAh/3.7V battery... what is the amount of use time that one can expect...?
Let's start a thread on this subject... listing the type of battery, approximate age of same, the names of the files/programs you run & use in a given day, and the amount of hours of overall use you get before you have to recharge or switch it over to a new/fresh battery. This way, we'll all have a better idea as to what programs really drain the phones, such as when you leave the WiFi and/or Bluetooth "on" all the time - waiting to be used (a sure guarantee to have a dead battery in a matter of hours).
We can subtitle this one under "The Cost of Staying Connected" (not including air-time charges or monthly fees).
i think my battery life is terrible... but its understandable. usually i run wifi and phone all day long.. the only reason i run wifi on all the time is because i have a feeling everytime i don't... somehow i get charged for using evdo (from bell in canada)... but i dont?? its really weird because i used to always get these random charges.. but ever since i kept my wifi on all day everything is all good. i have the original battery that came with my ppc 6700.. and i use the phone around 40-70 minutes of talk time. no real apps running but a few games of solitaire here and there. but if i were to talk non stop it only seems to last like 1hr
my battery life is like 10 hours and i always have to charge it when i get home from work or school or ill be doomed the next day
Since upgrading to WM6 (thanks helmi), my battery life has found NEW life. I used to have to charge it everyday: no wifi, 50% brightness, screen off in < 1min, etc. Since upgrading, I can run it at 100% brightness, screen off in 2min, and I don't have to charge it every day.
This is with the factory battery, and an eBay replacement sometimes used.
always running: freestyl (flashlite), sms threader, mbutton
phone is usually locked with s2u2
most use it usually gets is me checking the time
update rom from verizon, .net 3.5
ever since i updated the rom, it seems like i only get <24 hours per full charge (battery purchased less than a month ago)
w/o wifi or bt i get about 3 days however it depends on what version of windows are you running have you guys updated to the new 6.1 or 6.5 biulds?
My battery life its very short but, i use my apache with core play at my car with my kids plus the wifi, and blue with hand free, soo i've to conected every day, and i'm use 2batterys
original battery... i got 3 days on standby.. and 2 days in normal call usage...
but
with wifi my battery gets drained to the bone in 40 minutes LOL
thats all =D
About twenty minutes. I know I need a new battery >_>
... that and that I'm surprised I've got over 240 hours clocked in the lifetime call timer.
Using a 2600mAh 3.7v Battery
I had my extended battery for about 2 months now.....
TCPMP:Battery life is close to 5 hours on the lowest brightness level using headphones & on speaker mode I get about 3 1/2 hours.
Making Calls: I sometimes spend about 2 to 3 hours on the phone & that leaves the battery to about 70% or 60%.
Wifi: I don't use it for a very long time, but when I do it could be about 1 hour and that can leave my battery to about 80% to 70% when done.
Videogames: I use mainly the Morpheus(emu) usually about 20 to 30 mins and only seems to leave it close to 90%..
With random use I normally have to charge the battery every 2 or 3 days... I play with the phone quite a bit tho! Mostly text messaging (turning it on & off about 20 to 30 times daily).
With my 2 normal batteries? I think they need to be discarded soon lol!!!!!!! Wifi will deplete them(each) in about 4 or 5 mins tops!!! TCPMP about 10mins(screen on at its lowest with speaker) & 15 mins max(with headphones & screen at its lowest brightness)... Phone Calls? about 20mins tops(with the screen turned off)!!!!
So.... I strongly recommend the extended battery on Ebay for about $22(shipping included) so that you can enjoy the phone alot more!!!
I try not to keep the phone on the charger until the battery has depleted to about 20% when the warning comes on and fully charge it always!

Battery Problem!!

I've just bought a slightly used Mda Vario II,
but i have some troubles with the battery. i fully charged the battery (i suppose 15 hours)and when i checked the led was green. so i began to use my new device. but after 4 hours the battery was empty.
i'd remove the battery and placed it back in the device. and it boots.
with 20% battery and it lasts for i suppose an hour. then it shuts down again and if i do the same it starts again with 10% good for a half hour.
is this a common problem? is my battery dead? does someone has a solution?
Depends what you do with it. If you are using it a lot, depending on what you use, it could be normal. If its in standby with minimal use, a few calls/txt/mms/email, then it may be the battery needs replacing.
Charging the battery should only take 2-3 hours, NOT 15 unless you are using a non standard charger, even then 15 hours is excessive (unless you mean you left it overnight).
I'd look at replacing the battery, if you know someone with the same phone you might be able to borrow their battery to test. Test your battery in theirs and their battery in yours.Only thing I could think to try...
Cheers...
Thanks for the fast respond,
i am using 3g the whole day. automatic recieve email every 5 minutes.
furthermore i'm an average user i think.
how many hours can you use your tytn?
From what I hear 3G eats a lot of power. 4 hours sounds pretty good if you are having it on all the time. A 3G iPhone doesn't do better! I don't use 3G on mine but I am a heavy user. Data connection (EDGE) on all the time, Bluetooth always on, use it as an mp3 player, take about 3 hrs of phone calls, and surf the web. I don't let mine drain all the way down (leave it plugged in the car and at my desk) and I carry 3 batteries as spares. I'd say a battery might last about 9-10 hrs. if I didn't plug it in. I'm sure if I had 3G, it would be about 4-5. Of course it depends on your battery size as well...
If you aren't actively downloading/surfing the web, why not just turn off 3G until you need to use it?
Also need to remember that its not good tolet the battery discharge lower than 10%. People have had problems where the phone then doesn't recognise the battery is plugged in when trying to recharge. If you are gonna keep downloading emails on 3g all the time, it might be worthwhile to invest in another battery or two as vwkess does.
I tend to get a day or 2 out of my battery but I download my emails through activesync when at home or the office. Gives my battery a longer life and is easier and cheaper as Oz doesn't have unlimited data plans that are "reasonable".
Also would suggest getting a Larger capacity battery if lugging around a couple of extra batterries is too much of a pain. Though depending on what size you get it can make your Hermes larger. I have a 1650 Mah but you can get 3000 Mah batterries. Its up to you...
Cheers...
Thanks for the reply's!
I have a original 1350mAh battery.
And EDGE isn't supported in the netherlands.
Is it possible to switch between 3G and GPRS?
So i can set the phone to GPRS when i'm not using internet.
Will a 1500mAh battery last longer? or is it better to pick a even larger battery?
Yes, you should be able to turn off 3G in the Comm manager and just turn it on when you need it. 1500 will last a little longer, probably a couple of hours depending on usage.

Abysmal Battery Life?

Hello,
I understand people complain about the battery and search around here for issues regarding it and find many.
But mine seems to be shockingly bad. I have HSDPA on, weather, stock updates every 4 hours, twitter every hour, and tend to use Palringo on constantly (maybe this is the issue?). With about 2 hours of FM Radio, maybe an hour of music... the phones battery only lasts for about 7 hours which is not great.
Is this about right for the phone? Or is this shockingly bad compared to others? Its hard to quantify from searching about what the "par" for this device really is.
This is not much, but not shockingly bad. Have you enabled the power saving mode in Palringo?
(I actually don't know what it does, but there is one )
Palringo and beejive on my HD2 sucked the battery like a over active dyson vacuum cleaner!
Nimbuzz seems to be better for battery life but not perfect.
On sunday I managed to kill my battery <5 hours so 7 hours is better than what I get sometimes
another post. geeee
i had asus p750 which battery last for a day or so with minimal usage
i had se w910i while only on 2-3h of phone calls i had to charge the battery every 36 hours
i had an iphone 3g which i had to charge every 2 days with very gentle using
a friend of mine is using htc mda something with the hardware keyboard and has to charge the phone every day
anyway - i can charge my hd2 every night if necessary - it is a very good phone anyway
That might explain it then
I can appreciate that hammering the data connection or whatever Palringo does will not do the battery much good sadly. anyone else use Palringo and get better battery life?
I have the power / data saving mode enabled, although as you said, quite what that does I dont know
Thanks for the replies....
My HD2 is significantly better than my T-Mobile G1 I had previously - that phone definitely needed charging every day and I hardly used it really. I get a good 2-3 days with light usage from the HD2.
I had the same poor batter life before when I first had it. But last couple of days I finally realized that it's the 3G data connection sucking the battery life like nothing. No I only enable data connection whenever there's no wifi for me. But I keep the WiFi on constantly with push mail. The battery life lasts almost about 2 days. So I'm more than satisfied with it now. The iphone/ipod touch needs to be charged every single day mind you. So my advice is to avoid data connection whenever possible since wifi doesn't really suck much battery juice it seems.
Hi
In my case using palringo the battery drain is 8 % per hour. Without palringo running is 4% so double battery life. I ve repeated the test many times with same result...

Thanks mate, this is exactly what I was hoping to get confirmed. I'm seeing something similar, I guess short of not using Palringo there isnt much to do. I do have a charger on my desk at work, so I'll just plug it in.
Interesting I did see that with it plugged in charging and turned on (set to Disk Drive mode) at work the charge barely increased 1% over a period of an hour or so. (I did check that the option to not charge when connected was not ticked). So it wasnt that, just caught me by surprise as it seems it barely charged.

Battery Drain HD2?

Anyone else experiencing excessive battery drain on their HD2?
I am interested to know if this is just my phone or if it actually just chews through that much juice.
I have had windows mobile phones for several years so I know all the basic ways to keep battery drain down.
Stuff that I have generally found:
1. If I keep the screen turned on without it going blank I lose about 1% every 2 minutes.
2. If I am browsing that figure almost doubles.
3. My old Touch HD used about 5% battery overnight when in standby but this phone will go through about 25%.
4. The phone gets really hot when browsing (much hotter than my old Touch HD)
I have tried flashing ROM's and Radios but nothing seems to help.
I am not running any software on the phone that I wasn't running on my old HD1.
I have only had the phone for a week so I am not sure if this is normal but I would be very surprised if HTC released a phone that lasts for only a few hours on one battery.
+1
-1% every 3 minutes
-4% during the night (when i'am sleeping)
MAXIMUM : 45/48 HOURS

I wish I got 2 days
we really need extended battery ,hd1 battery was much more better.
Good mate but yes i agreee HTC has come up with a battery eating device this time around. My device on full charge just gives in around 8-10 hrs. This might be dat my EDGE is on and 7 mails accounts sending mails back and forth.
but truly i think that HTC better look into this very seriously cause more and more ppl are suffering in this battery drain..
Any of flashing roms and radio not helping either... did a complete hard reset but no step up
HTC come with longer battery battery for bigger devices soon......
The only solution i see now is get one of those extra battery worth mind bogling £52.87
I've had this problem ever since flashing to 1.66, I flashed the radio to 2.07.50.27 as this was said to solve the problem but it hasn't made any difference after a few days of use. My battery life used to be significantly better when I was on the original stock ROM, so much so I'm considering going back to it
I also know all the tricks as to clawing back the battery drain, my phone is idle on my desk at work most of the time and I don't use Wi-Fi, all the location stuff is turned off as are weather, stock and other updates plus my screen is set to 30% then off after 60 seconds. Despite all of that I lose 1% every 2-3 minutes
It seems to me that perhaps the radio is checking for reception pretty much constantly rather than say, 5-10 mins perhaps? This used to be a problem on my old Blackberry Storm but a few fimware updates solved it, eventually!
The only other thing I've noticed since the update is that once the battery drops below 50% or so, the drain seems to slow, I don't know if this is perhaps because the phone goes into some sort of semi-power saving mode?
Suggestions/hints welcome! I've had a semi-thorough look into this on the forums and tried most of the suggestions but still the problem remains. Will battery life improve after a few charges perhaps as this was a trait of my Storm's battery, the more you charged it the better the day to day battery life was (and no it wasn't because I had it plugged in all the time! Over time the general charge just seemed to improve when roaming).
Thanks!

You need to indicate what services you have running. Do you have any data services running eg: location services, push mail, weather? all of these have a bearing. In addition, network services can also drain a battery, especially if the signal is weak and the phone have to search for a transmitter, or 3g services.

That is a very interesting comment. Although since upgrading to radio 2.07.51.05_2 I have had very good battery life, I too have noticed a slowdown after 50%

Nothing is turned on, everything is set to manual.
As I stated I know all the basic stuff. I understand that all these things have a bearing on battery loss.
Everything I stated in the first post is for when I have nothing running. The phone is just sitting there running sense, thats all.
I have had my HD2 for a few days now. I am on Vodacom in South Africa.
I have not had a problem with battery life.
Yesterday i unplugged from the charger at 07:00. I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours of talk time on the phone, it was permanently connected to 3g doing weather updates etc. Sent and received a couple of sms's. Also played with a few tweaks and reboots.
When i got home at about 18:00 i had over 30% battery. I then surfed the web for over 2 hours to drain the battery.
try setting Network Selection to Manual

Same here with and without stock ROM.
yeah.. the phone is a battery sucker.... another cons of HD2....
This is very interesting to read because I do not have this problem. When I left my HTC HD2 on last night (I woke up at 4 in the morning to get something to drink and unplugged it) and then woke up at 8, it was at 98%. That means it went from 100% to 98% in 4 hours. Not to bad imo.
I am now at work and it is 15:34, and I am at 87%. I have made some calls, watched some videos, send a few text messages. Not much (I am at work so I got other things to do). So 08:00 (98%) - 15:34 (87%) - that's 7 and a half hours, with some calls, text messages and a video.
I am pretty sure when I get home at 18:30 the battery will still be above 75%. Then I connect to my wifi at home, refresh twitter, weather, browse the web a little bit, check e-mail etc. So that will drain my battery a little more.
But overall I have not had any problems with my battery life. I always make it trough a day, and never have a problem like 'damn my battery is almost done and I am not near a charger'.
Some info that might help:
I do not sync ANYTHING automatically. I still have some things to do with my Vodafone contract and do not have an unlimited plan yet. I only sync at home on my own wifi connection. For me this is not a problem, because I only need to refresh the weather each morning to see what the day is going to be like. Twitter I only do when I have the time. Stocks I do not use.
I have screen brightness set to automatic.
I am on 3G most of the time.
I am running the official 1.66 Dutch ROM.
I have some tweaks, games and programs installed.
I hope you all solve this issue, because it just can not be that my HD2 has a good battery life, and your HD2 not
Kind Regards
EDIT @ 17:00 still 87%.
I am in a 3G 2100 only network (I don't have 2G functionality).
ROM: Artemis 3.0
Radio: 2.06.50.23_3
Customization: Seiya 6.5.5
I don't leave any automatic updates on, except for my e-mail account every 2 hrs.
I never close my connection.
The drainage overnight is -3% (8hrs).
The battery lasts at least 12 hrs of intense usage.
Normally I have to recharge every second day (e.g. I charged last night, I answered a few calls, I did some IM and browsing and I still have 73% left).
For a phone with a 1 GHz processor, a 4.3" screen and a tiny 1250 mAh battery I find the drainage is rather decent.
Mind you, I ALWAYS do at least one full charging cycle to my battery after flashing a new ROM. I mean: full discharge, battery out 1 min, full charging in OFF mode, battery out 2 mins.

I have seen this process recommended a couple of times now. What is the theory behind it if you don't mind me asking?
maybe its also becouse some of us couldnt wait using the hd2 when they got it (like me) before it was fully charged for the first time
anyway my battery life has improved a little bit, i was at 74% this morning and did a lot of browsing, installing, tweaking and now its at 3%. it used to be much worse
I have battery consuming problem from time to time.I did everything:
installed new stock rom 1.66;
transfered all data which phone is using from card to phone memory(pictures,icons,sounds.etc...)
all updates are done manually;
Gprs connection is swiched off on the idle after one min;
One night it is loosing from 2 to 4%;
another from 30 to 40%
and it is eating memory from 10 to 15mb
I think that it is radio which is causing battery drainage so fast(to much communication wit a base stations, because when I am checking spb wireless monitor in the morning, there is no any data traffic.
I hope they can solve problem, because it is getting me mad and crazy
Try setting the screen brightness to 10-20% (on battery powered)
and dim backlight after 10 seconds (on batter powered).
It helps a lot, at least for me.

as far as i know, the battery has an integrated digital circuit (ic) which estimates the state-of-charge (soc). the procedure resets/calibrates the ic to obtain a more accurate estimation. since the radio rom is in charge with the power management (among other things), by changing it you decalibrate the "gauge".
i don't know if i've got the theory right but i tested this myself and it surely works.

[Q] Battery life not as good as I thought on NAND

Hi everyone. I had NAND installed on my HD2 now for about a month and a half. One of the things that I haven't seen on my phone is better battery life. This is the first phone I have with a data plan so I'm really not sure how much of the battery drains with data. Here is my daily routine. I charge my phone overnight, by 11am-12pm my phone is just about dead. I put it on the charger until about 4pm; usually it's fully charged by then. By the time 10pm comes around it's almost dead again. Doesn't seem like good battery life to me. Someone please let me know if I'm missing something.
Thank you all!
Depends on what you're doing with your hd2.
If you spend a lot of time on the internet with either wifi or 3g, then that drains battery pretty quickly, as with any device. Playing games or watching videos is the same thing, although to a hiigher extent with games. Keeping the phone screen on is also one way to drain battery quickly.
You should install current widget and monitor your standby times, etc. In standy by, your phone should be consuming 4~6 mA ideally.
If you want to monitor your battery usage, first download and install CurrentWidget, enable logging while the phone is on standby to see your standby usage.
Second, need to check battery usage on standby after a call, there are some kernels with a known bug that prevents the phone from going to sleep, consuming 60ma on standby.
Third, Do a battery calibration, it does help a lot if you have never calibrated your battery, android tend to mess up battery reading after a while of not being calibrated. There's a thread about in on forums, search for it, REALLY good info there.
Fourth! check out if you are in a zone with crappy 3G, if the phone has to turn 2g/3g off and on too often it drains battery like whoa.
Fifth, take note of max and min voltage readings with CurrentWidget, your battery might by wearing out (should be maxing at 4.2v and min around 3.3v - 3.6v depending on kernel).
Another thing, before your phone dies, check out battery usage on Settings, see if any program is eating your battery, and check out how long has your screen been on, and post it here
I've always had WAY better battery in Android, even SD, than WMo, MSN/push email killed battery in WMo in about 6 hours, without use, just standby. Android get up to 4 days in standby with Gtalk/Gmail/Exchange Mail, all on Push, along with weather and twitter. With hardcore usage, the battery last between 6 and 7 hours top (Screen on for 4-5 hours), while Gaming, it wont last more than 4 hours (CPU at 100%, Screen always on, GPU at 100%, Brightness 100%).
Normal usage (between 40 mins and 1 hour of Google Maps with GPS on, between 3 and 4 hours of music thru Bluetooth with my car, 10-15 mins talking, about 20-30 SMSs and quite a bit of Gtalk) it makes it thru the day, lasting about 12-14 hours.
Such a low battery life is probably cause your phone is not going to sleep, it should be at 2-5 mah on standby.
Hope it helps
I can play an hour of pokemon (gba rom), listen to pandora whenever im in the car, surf the net for an hour or two, and with a total constant usage of about 5 hours, and at the end of the day ill be left with 30% battery still.
If I don't use it often it will last 40 hours +.
Maybe try a different nand rom?
Im running hyperdroid nand
Zephyrot and kangpeter, Im jealous of your battery life. I'll try what was posted. Thanks for the replies!
