My 8525 Eats batteries - options? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all. I just got this 8525 off a former forum user, and it's in fantastic condition. It's running the MRH 8.4 Sun Shower ROM, which of course is running HTC Home and S2U2. I've done nothing to it but remove a couple small programs and install MemMaid.
I've noticed that this beast eats batteries - big time. I pulled it off the charger this morning at 7:15, and after just a few calls, I'm down to 60% in under 3 hours!
Is there anything, short of buying an extended life battery, that I can do to get more life out of this 8525?

I acutaly own 3 batteries myself, cycle through them when im out during the day so i always have my phone.
I did see on ebay a bigger battery, i think its twice the capacity of the original one - except you need to use a modified battery door for it to fit.

Are there any tweaks available to drop CPU/radio usage, or auto-close apps when the phone's locked?
I'm dying here - now I'm at 20-30% and I've made all of 3 calls today - the rest of the time it's been locked on my desk.
I've got wifi set to auto shut off, weather is on manual update only. Not sure what else I can shut down. I don't even have FTouchFlo or S2U2 running - I shut them off.

Well, I flashed to CRC's v13 last night, then customozed from there with the app updater, and it's much much better on the battery usage. I was able to leave it off the charger all night, and this morning I was sitting at 85%.
However, I made one call this morning that lasted a few minutes and was drained to 75%. Obviously, I need a lower power radio!
How can I find the version of radio, and if I flash it, will I need to reload my CRC ROM?

Radio is dependant on area and carrier. In Oz I use 1.54.30.10 on Telstra. I've found it best where I am... It would help to give that information out and maybe someone can help you. I believe zocster did some research on this but I cant remember the thread. Maybe you can pm him to find out...
Cheers...

Thanks for the response. I'm in Kansas City, KS but I bought the phone from a guy in Tuscon, AZ - so it might be good to flash the radio
Is it possible to flash the radio without having to reload the ROM? And if I have to reload the ROM, is there a way to back it up first?
Last question - the phone defaults to 3G. If I'm just making calls and not transferring data, would it help to save juice if I switch off 3G as well?

radio can be loaded by itself! i did it a bunch of times cause i found out that i had 1.18 radio version and i wasnt even getting edge let alone 3g.
go to the comm manager and there should be a 3g icon there. you can turn that off! which gives better signal strength sometimes!

ALL 3g phones are power hungry battery eaters, particularly in marginal 3g areas as the radio hunts around and flips from 2 to 3 g.flashing the radio is the singularly most dangerous thing you can do with the phone as it results in the most bricking.
only change the radio if you know there is going to be a pay off.have a peek at the wiki there is a lot of good stuff about radios there.

"Flashing the radio is the singularly most dangerous thing you can do with the phone as it results in the most bricking."
This is true.. I'd suggest usng the sd card method to do this as it is safer ( I believe) than using the pc. There is NO chance of a power outage, "accidental" disconnection or pressing of the reset button. In fact the only way I've found to interrupt the flash is to manually reset with the stylus or rip the battery out...
If you don't know how to flash with the sd card method, here goes....
MAKE SURE YOU HARD SPL ON YOUR PHONE....
1. format an sd card (2gb or less) fat32 and copy the .nbh file of the rom you want on it. rename to "hermimg.nbh".
2. insert back into phone and go into bootloader (tri-colour screen) - hold power, ok button above flywheel and reset with stylus. Hold in until you get to bootloader.
3. Follow onscreen prompts. If you have problems look at did you format fat32, is the name of the flash file right.
Make sure you have at least 50% battery power or you may have problems.
Cheers...

XDA II: Phone not working anymore and where to repair in US?

Not quite sure what the issue is with this one. Back in the beginning of the year my XDA II fell from waist height when the carry case snap popped open (notebook bag brush across the front catching on the flap). The only noticeable problem after that was that the power button no longer works, so I have to power it on by pressing the phone or address book buttons etc.
About a month and a half after that incident the phone suddenly just stopped getting signal. I was using the standard shipping firmware with a few apps. Soft reset, hard reset both failed to fix the issue, the phone simply will not pick up the network. Interestingly enough if I play with the phone settings and go through the process of manually selecting a network the phone WILL pick up available networks in the area (this kills my idea that the GSM radio failed altogether). For now I've had to switch back to a junk phone as I've been unable to figure this one out. Anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm using T-Mobile for a service provider and I'm based out of California.
Also, does anyone know of a place that can do diagnostic/repairs here in the U.S.? So far my searches have come up empty.
Thanks in advance.
Give this a try:
Reflash the phone with any version of ROM and it should start working fine again. I think the problem is that you're radio firmware somehow got corrupt.
Ok, guess I'll have to give it a try. I've been avoiding trying the slightly riskier stuff as I got this thing via an independant third party, so warranty/support are iffy.
Is there a general release ROM that I should be looking for (using T-Mo in U.S.)? Or should I look to cooking my own (which I'd rather not)?
You can try upgrading the ROM with the same branded one. That shouldn't void the warranty.
I.e. If you've got an O2 device, get the new O2 ROM
Reflashing
I have had a simular problem with hard locking. Finally my phone quit working all together. I went into boot loader mode and flashed it. It's like having a new phone again. So yeah.. I think the ROM's can get corrupt.
Brandon
NeoCole: Looks like you are using T-Mo in the U.S. Mind if I asked what you flashed yours with? Did you use a specific ROM, Radio Stack version etc.?
I'm running an unlocked i-mate (contradictory to my subj title, I know).
Flash it with the T-mobile 1.72 ROM
ROM Version
Well.. I flashed it with the IMATE 1.72 ROM and used most of it's extended ROM. I used the battery Meeter from the Qtek extended rom. I built most of my extended ROM Myself.
I look at T-Mobile's Beta 1.72 ROM like I look at Windows ME. Both should have never happend. I can't count how many times I had a hard reset with the T-Mobile ROM. I'm not sure if it was a combination of the programs I was useing or not. I saw a post that said SBP was possibly causing the problem. So I quit using SBP products. Later I still had to HARD RESET from time to time. Now that I'm running differently, My device has never been so smooth.
Let me know if this helps,
Brandon
Looks like I'm pretty much screwed. Without a working power button I can't do a hard reset into bootloader mode. When I try using a utility app that allows me to do a hard reset I can't hold down the jog dial at the same time. Good times.
*edit: yeah, that would be 'can't' hold down the jog dial.
You don't need to boot into the bootload to perform an upgrade... the upgrade software takes care of everything for you (except the hard reset at the end)
All you need to do is sync through Activesync and then run the upgrade program.
I would (and have!) flash the imate 1.72 ROM. It is very stable for me and HAS improved the battery life of my imate.
As stated above, just start the flash process and it will put the device into bootloader mode and perform the flash. It will need a HR at the end, but since your power button is not working, maybe you could remove the battery, slide the red slide/switch back into place for a few seconds as if the battery were there, then slide it back, put in the battery, slide it back into place and press one of the puttons to turn it on.
Hey . . . it might just work!
imate 1.72 ROM did the trick. After I actually READ all the posts regarding the ROM I realized it came with an installer and got that done. So far so good. Now if I could only find my missing tomtom 3 cd key that went MIA during my last move
Hey, that's fabulous! Welcome back to the world of convergence.

SPV M1000 Resets completely for no reason..

Dear All,
I have had my SPV now for about 4 weeks now and very pleased with it. However, twice in the last week it hasn't responded when I turned it
on and ended up removing and re-inserting the battery. When it comes back, it starts with the "Welcome to Pocket PC" setup wizard and all my data is gone.
Has anyone else had this problem. This problem has happened with both
versions of the ROM. The only s/w I am running is
Tube (VisualIT)
MS Arcade Pack (Pacman, DigDug etc)
MS Voice Command
Agenda Fusion
CityTime
Regards & Thanks
Chris
Yeah i got the same problem. But it happens when I upgraded my ExtRom from Orange.com. Sometimes it stays at suspend mode, then i have to perform a hard reset to wake up the device. Very odd.

I have had my M1000 for about four weeks too now and although it occasionally soft resets it never fails to respond to the power button. Maybe you have a faulty phone?
On a different note, you say you have Voice Command, I was looking for places that sell it in the UK but it appears to only be available in the US, if you could let me know where you got it I would be really grateful.
Hope you sort your phone out!

High all

and lots more.
Im overlocking my CPU to 530 MHZ and no Trubbles so far.
Got the thing for two months now, running in this config for about one month.
Peace
Yep, I am having the same problem or much the same problem. The unite works fine until every four or five days when I notice that the bluetooth light and the green phone radio light are flashing (even though bluetooth is turned off). It does not respond to the power button and then lights go off when I try a soft reset. The only way I can get it back on it with a hard reset.
It does not seem to be a battery issue as the battery is fully charged and when I try plugging in the Charger (before doing the hard reset) the charging light does not light up. I have had the same problem with several M1000s from Orange.
Anyone have any ideas at to what might be going on?
Thanks,
Steve

With Orange Switzerland SPV M1000 I experience the following problems:
1) Bluetooth lights (blue light) and the battery lights flashes even though
bluetooth is not connected and the battery level is fine.
2) Once every other day the device (though fully charged) freezes and I end up doing soft reset.
3) Removing battery already puts the device to soft reset. Orange
4) The activeSync is running without me having to start any activeSync session.
5) Abruptly I get message the memory is full and the device then freeses.
Is anyone having the above problems? How do i resove this?
Many thanks
Swissmate

SAME PROBLEM AS THE REST OF YOU WHO HAVE THEIR SPV FREEZED UP VERY OFTEN. IN MY CASE IT'S EVERY 3 OR 4 DAYS, POWER BUTTON AND SOFT REST DOES NOT RESPONDE, SO IT'S EITHER HARD RESET OR SOMETIMES SIMPLY REMOVING THE BATTERY DOES THE WORK. I HAD MY PHONE REPLACED 3 TIMES ALREADY AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM EVEN WITHOUT INSTALLING ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE BUT WHAT CAME BUNDLE WITH THE ORANGE PHONE. IS THIS A ROM BUG ???
SPV M1000 FRANCE
SD CARD 1 GB
OMEGA ONE BATTERY PACK PRO
OMEGA ONE JOURNAL BAR
SPB GPRS MONITORS.
FORTUNATELY I USE THE X BACKUP PROVIDED WITH THE PHONE TO SAVE MY DATA, BUT IT'S TIME COMSUMMING AND REPETITIVE AS AFTER EACH TIME THE PHONE RESETS ITSELF, I HAVE TO RESTORE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
IF SOMEBODY COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, THIS WOULD HELP A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE ME
THANKS
RICHARD
There have been frequent reports of this problem- Orange are aware of it, and are replacing M1000's as required. They are currently testing a new ROM, so it appears that they think it may be a ROM problem, though it could also be a batch of faulty hardware.
Another possibility
Turning off the record button seems to have helped, could it be that this is being caught and filling memory / draining batrtery?
3rd phone 3 weeks.
Great when working - anyone using a GPS receiver? Tried a TomTom with an XDA 2 lead is not recognised

Remember you have to turn of the IR in settings>connections>beam before a GPS will be recognised.

we got almost 30 of these at our work, it seems the only one to have this problem is... my one! so i swapped it for another one and it did the same problem... hmm, they must not like power users, the other users are idiots so they dont really mess about with the settings n all
anyhooz, ill be upgrading all of em to SE very soon and i doubt that rom will have the same glitch...
who knows... now that we can confirm (99%) that SE works on the xda II maybe the operators will now make an official upgrade to SE... they have no reason not to

Hmm. That is interesting. Only having one here - and having problems - I do not have much to compare.
Do you think the problem comes from changing the standard settings or using extra software then?
By the way the new ROM does not seem to make much difference in terms of this problem, alas!
Exactly the same thing to me...
Every 5 or 6 days... it goes of for no reason, and the only way to wake it up is to hard reset it! weird SPV... maybe some day a nice guy will come up with a solution to our problem! Hopefully...
To keep an old thread alive
Those experiencing issues with this device going into coma (requiring Hard Reset to clear)please would you post detailed accounts of when the issue occurs.
Please confirm power settings, what applications were open on the device and whether the radio or BT was on.
Does the problem occur off or on charge, if on does same problem occur if charged from travel charger not dock?
If off charge, if known - state both internal and external battery charge levels when problem occurs?
What is seen on the handset at point of coma?
Working from soft Reset through battery off to hard reset, what was necessary to restore the device and did soft reset or battery off result in a dump?
Could ROM V's and bootloader V's also be stated.
cheers guy's, together we'll crack it
To keep an old Thread Alive
 I have had my phone from about June last year. The first reset occurred about the 3rd Jan this and two more occurring in the past few weeks the last one on sat 12th Feb
The history as I can recall with the last reset is as follows. I took the phone out from work (cradle) Friday afternoon after 4pm don’t think it was put to charge again before the incident also the phone was not used very often as its a work phone. It was on stand by all day Saturday with the green light flashing but no signal input was being received as I was expecting a cal which never came only to find out the phone was off as mentioned by the caller when I called them. Got home about 530pm with the light still flashing and tried to switch the phone on after finding out no signal was received, the light then went out. Could remember this quite distinctly as it happed on the previous occasion. To activate the phone i have to take the battery and sim card out as with the previous occasion put the card in another/different phone to activate it (make a cal) then put the card and battery back in for the phone to work when it would then go through the reset process. Once working on checking, both battery powers were very low think less than 50% as when i checked some time after they were up to 75%
Am in an office with 3 other users and the only one with this problem and am on my 3rd phone since the year started. It seems to be linked with low battery power (both) and extended stand by when it completely shuts down. Trust this would help to get us a stage further.
i have had two m1000's with this problem,
orangecare stepped up for the replacement and i upgraded the 2nd to win2003se and it still does it!
i make scheduled backups now and have learnt to live with it until my contract expires..
on another seperate note..
Remember you have to turn of the IR in settings>connections>beam before a GPS will be recognised.

MORE ON THIS
I had an M1000 that worked fine but a small problem occured and orange replaced it - the new one had this problem every 7 days or so - the bluetooth light was flashing although not switched on and when I try to turn phone on it wont - remove/replace bat and resets - I upgraded to ROM 2.02 from this forum but was using origional orange extended rom and it made no difference - if it is a rom problem its in oranges extended rom
I was on a 166wwe - boot loader 1.06 - dont know radio version but was still happening after DCM 2.02 WM2003SE WWE from this forum with radio 1.18.00 and original ORANGE ext rom so if is on ROM is definatley oranges ext rom that has a problem. - HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHILE ON CHARGE????
THEY REPLACED MY PHONE WITH A REFURB - ITS NOW FINE BUT IM NOT HAPPY
guys lets think here
were all orange subs so its got to be an orange thing (so unlikley to be hardware) - there are people here (myself included) who have upgraded radio and OS so I am begining to think it is in the extended rom on these machines - has anyone who has replaced extended rom had this trouble - I would experiment but no longer have this fault - I never thought Id wish I could get it back but now I think I can see a resolve
we need an orange customer who does not have this trouble to post extended rom on here for us all to try????? - - - Please ??????
it would be nice to crack this one guys keep plugging on
Had my M100 nearly a year now and after many many resets decided to call Orange as I would have thought this was a known problem with them. But according to technical they have never seen this before!!!
There response was ... backup your data! doh!
I told them I did and it was unacceptable to say this as the thing is faulty it takes over an hour to reload the data and it's happend 4 times since I called them 4 days ago.
PS: has anyone got a copy of the original 1.66 rom as you can no longer get it from Orange.

No Radio Rom If Battery Removed!!!

There isn't a radio and ext rom if I romove the battery ;( Heeelp needed.
You'll probably have a black screen too with the battery removed ;-)
It's suprising what people discover after years...
Some are hopeless, but others, one day, discover Search button and whole new world shows up...
No, you didn't understand me. I'm not so dummy as you think.
When I bought my MDA 3 in Croatia from T-mobile I was freely able to change the SIM card, dissassemble, etc.... and afterwards put the battery in and it worked fine!
But now If I remove the battery, the radio dissapears and i have to put the device in serial mode and put it again on the device ;(
So still it means, you have never used search function.
HINT: do a SR after putting battery in and turning on. Voila.
Search? Network Search? Can you explain?
Search function on this forum
a really old bug that dates back to wm5, basically to make it 'see' the radio rom you need to soft rest after re-inserting the battery.
if you cba to search at least use the wiki

Radio firmware faling off after reboot on BA

got my BA flashed with WM6.0(russian firmware)...VERY stable version...but!
if i pull off battery on_the_fly, or got battery discharged then on next boot i got first two lines "R: none G: none"
the only help is reset-button. after that it boots ok with (R: 1.15....etc)
how to get rid of that minor bug?
there is no way of getting rid of that bug, it is like the 4 colour screen. it comes with every rom here, so for soft-resetting use the proper soft-reset istead of pulling the battery off. since there is no proper airplane mode in most of these roms and the phone keeps re-enabling itself, you can use that "feature" to have the ppc working without phone functuality
hm...no good(
that means that everybody got this stuff(WM6.0) not working _properly_?
well, actually it is working properly, i used to wonder about that too, but there's no point in complaining. it is just a given fact and you have to learn to live with it. little things like that are, despite the fact that the BA is huge and doesn't have much battery power, reasons, why people go off and buy new devices. also there are minor bugs in wlan and bluetooth that come with every rom here. that's the way it is, and that's the price you have to pay for upgrading your phone instead of buying a new one and i for one think, that's a rather low price
to get back to the point: as i use sun_dream's finger-friendly build 20758 and have lost my stylus about a year ago, for soft-resetting i also don't use the stylus hole, but use the today screen icon that comes with xcpuscalar, which of course wouldn't work, when the device freezes, but then i simply take out the battery, start over, and when the device is ready i soft-reset from the icon. it is not the ideal way, as by that you somehow delete your wlan settings as well, but still i'm happy, my precious old BA still is up to date
soft reset
every rom after WM5 in BLUE ANGEL needs soft reset after u see this case, then works normally.thnx.
most times, u will need to do a soft-reset at the 1st cold boot (replace battery and so on). as Chef_Tony mentioned, we all just have to remeber do that.

[Q] Battery issues & SPL/ROM Install Questions

Hi everyone,
I recently joined this forum because I got my hands on an HTC HD2 from T-Mobile. Don't know the "official" name to call it since the phone name implies that it's a HTC HD2 LEO and from the looks of it (green call button and red power/end button), it looks like it should be T-Mobile HD2. I'm an advanced computer user in general, but admit that I'm completely new to WinMo devices and have spent hours scouring these threads reading up as much as I can. Now I have a few questions and things that I just want to clear my mind of before I dive in
Please bear with me on this. So many questions to ask and they may sound simple for those that are use to it, but I'm clueless on them.
Model: T-Mobile/HTC HD2
OS Version: 5.2.21892 (21892.5.0.89)
Manila version: 2.5.20121412.2
ROM version: 2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE
ROM Date: 4/28/10
Radio version: 2.10.50.26
Protocol version: 15.39.50.07U
RAM Size: 576MB
Flash Size: 1024MB
R 2.10.50.26
G 15.39.50.07U
D 2.13.90693 8G
SPL-2.10.0000 8G XE
PB81120 SS-B3
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and have Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 installed already.
1. One major problem I noticed is that this phone is a power guzzler. I left the phone around 75% of power remaining and by morning, it was dead. I made sure to turn off all the unnecessary data fetching features and it didn't seem to help out much. Anyone else experienced similar problems? I read up on a lot of the battery usage tips here and elsewhere and so far, there is very little improvement.
2. Which brings me to this question. I want to try using other custom ROMS that I have been seeing users talking about here. Maybe it will help out with the power issue and also remove unnecessary garbage that may be slowing down the unit. It looks like in order for me to do any of these things, I must install HardSPL3 first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614
I have a question on this part:
IMPORTANT: To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.000
3. If I wanted to go back to stock SPL, how do I do this? For HSPL3_PKG.exe, it looks like it will only go back to SPL 2.08.0000? My version is 2.10.0000 (8G XE, not sure what those characters are for).
4. One part says that flashing with the wrong ROM can "brick" the phone. But if I install HardSPL3 first, how do I unbrick it? Just by doing a hard reset or restoring stock ROM?
5. When we flash a custom ROM, is that ROM going to be the one used after we do a hard reset?
Here's hoping to doing my first HardSPL or ROM flash without screwing it up
Thanks in advance.
Wow, GREAT first post. Although most of these questions have been answered before, I must commend you on your post. Clear english, more information that I can shake a stick at, general politeness...you are a poster child for what we want new users to be.
Anywho, to answer your questions:
1-There are ways to conserve power with the HD2, and customs ROMs do generally have less power consumption than stock ROMs, but ultimately it comes down to that the HD2 has a small battery at just 1230MAh. I would purchase an extended battery, you can get them from eBay for like 15 bucks and they work wonders.
2-Yes, you need to install HardSPL in order to flash a custom ROM, but once you do it you never need to re-do it as it is permanent. And yes, your SPL should work with the HSPL3 package.
3-To go back to stock SPL, you can either use the HSPL package to go back to 2.08.0000 or flash the official 2.13 T-Mobile USA stock ROM via your SD card and it will overwrite HardSPL back to 2.08.0000. Even though your SPL is 2.10.0000, there is no real appreciable end-user difference between the two. The only reason you would need to go back to stock SPL is for warranty purposes.
4-Yes, flashing the wrong custom, stock or radio ROM will brick your device. PLEASE read up on which versions work. If the thread specifically says "for TMOUS" then you are pretty much in the clear. If it says for LEO512 or Euro, DO NOT attempt to flash it, as it WILL perma-brick your device. Radio's are really the most deadly. Flashing a radio ROM with .51 in its name WILL perma-brick your phone. The rule of thumb with WinMo is that if your phone can go into bootloader, by pressing power and holding the down volume button from startup, and get to the tri-color screen then you can flash a new ROM and most of the time recover. Flashing an incorrect ROM or radio will make it so that your phone will not power on, thus rendering it usesless.
and 5-Yes, whatever ROM is on your device is the ROM that will be re-installed when you Hard Reset. To go back to stock, just flash the original 2.13 T-MoUS stock ROM.
I hope that helps, and please don't hesitate to ask anymore questions. READ like crazy before flashing, and if in doubt....DON'T FLASH till you ask. Also, for more info, check out the guide in my signature, should be helpfull.
Thanks for the fast reply ashasaur
One thing on the SPL version. Since I have SPL 2.10.0000 will T-Mobile notice that it's 2.08.0000 and won't take it back? Just asking these precautionary questions. More on the careful side
I definitely have read dozens of these threads and think I pretty much get the gist of it now. Will definitely look out for those things you mentioned and have been reading those sentences in big red fonts LOL
I actually do have a few more questions.
1. I have been installing some of the apps mentioned here to my SD card. If my guess is correct, I have to reinstall these again if a different ROM is used right? There are probably settings stored in the registry on the internal memory.
2. Been having trouble using WiFi with both of my wireless routers at home even though they work for my other computers. For some reason, it connects to them but when I try to browse a webpage with Opera, it gives me an error saying it can't be found (or similar to that wording). Once I turn off WiFi, it works again with 3G.
3. This one will probably have no definitive answer and I've seen debates go on about it. Do you notice any power usage difference between using WiFi or 3G for the internet? Besides speed, if WiFi uses less power, I want to get that working.
Now to get that extended battery. Hopefully it won't stick out too much since I read up on that also somewhere.
Thanks again.
No problem.
1-No, T-Mobile has no idea what SPL you have, only that it falls within a certain range of (something) to (something), that top one being 2.10.0000. They DO know however if your SPL has been tweaked with the HSPL3 package because it displays HSPL after the SPL version.
2-Yes, if you install a new ROM, or hard reset you will have to reinstall all the applications that you have installed right now regardless of where you put them. You can however get a backup program such as Sprite Backup and backup your entire program database, then use that backup on your new ROM to put back all your programs and tweaks and whatnot in one easy process.
3-Some routers are just straight up not compatable with the HD2's WiFi adaptor. Search for how to enable WiFi N on the HD2. Even if your router doesn't support N speeds, it still sometimes solves compatability problems, as do custom ROMs.
4-3G more often then not actually uses more power than WiFi because..well...I don't really know to be honest, only that it does. Mostly from what I gather is that depending on your signal strentgh 3G may use very little, to an amazing amount of power, whereas no matter what the signal strength, WiFi is pretty constant.
They do make extended 1600MAh batteries that have the same form factor as the stock one, and don't require the bigger cover...which is about a half inch tall I'm afraid. I myself use a cheapo 1600MAh battery from eBay and get around 30% more battery life out of it versus the stock one, and can still use the stock cover.

Okay.... You are so posting the particulars of that 1600MAh battery! Right?! Aren't we ALL looking for a larger battery that doesn't change the form factor of the HD2! PLEASE!!!!!

x2! (and here are the obligatory extra characters)
I finally did it. I stayed up until like 1AM yesterday re-reading everything in the threads here before I dove in and installed HardSPL3, Core Cell Custom ROM and to make the final finish, flashed the radio ROM to 2.12.50.02_2. Everything seems to be ok except for a few freeze ups here and there with the Core Cell ROM.
Already enabled the wireless N on the HD2 and also have an N router. Will give it another try since the attempt failed last night.
Thanks for mentioning those two programs. Just what I wanted. They will definitely save me time.
The only 1600mah batteries I found on eBay are all from China. It's going to be a long wait and if I decide to buy it, I hope it's not a cheap model. Need a good long lasting battery
Heh, awesome! You will enjoy custom ROMs. Every device I have ever had has had a custom ROM, and the HD2 is no different. They just make the phones sooooo much better.
Anyways, due to popular demand, here is a picture of my battery, and yes, it's a cheapo from China...cost me I think 8USD on eBay, and took around a week to get here by standard overseas shipping.
It's a NETCOM WCL-01A. SUPPOSEDLY works with all the HD2 variants. 3.7V, 1600MAh, and as you can see...is standard size and works with the stock battery cover. Pictures suck I know, taken with my webcam...
Thanks for the pics. Quality is more than enough to make out what it looks like. I think I saw an identical one going on eBay. Will snatch one up now since the shipping time will be the huge killer here. How long did you have it for? Last thing I want is a cheap battery leaking inside LOL
I still use it everyday...and i've had it since around June-ish I think. Still works just as well as the day I bought it.
