Quake Hell - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Anyone got anywhere running Any sort of Quake on Athena?
I have ....lol....literally a million editions that have been made for XX devices over the years....the best one being I think Dutty Quake.
I used to play against PC's on my old Magician running wm 2003 through Wifi. Almost competitivly.
I have had limited success on Athena, nothing great.
I would love to be in a position to do some work on a port to configure it correctly, there is a great *white screen fix* version for Universals which is VGA and Keyboard ready but it wont run on Athena just bombs. This used to rock on my MDA PRO
I hope someone has already got a perfect version.
LOL, I have probably asked before.
With Michys new ROM running SO F'ing fast - compare it to original windows mobile 5!! My god!!- and with mouse and keyboard through USB host.
I think this would be a good platform for the soft.
How nice it would be if we could get GL quake running on the Chipset *sighs*
I have a great version of GL quake on my N95 8GB, just cant control the fecker properly.
Looks nice when plugged into TV though
Any info would be more than welcome.
Many thanks all, and blessings to MiChY

So what's next after the Universal?

Hi,
Does anyone have any idea what the next "best" HTC device to replace the Universal will be? Or from any other manufacturer for that matter...
Better Battery?
Faster CPU?
etc etc
Cheers,
I've been wondering this myself. I'm quite taken by the Loox T830, unfortunately it's only got a 240x240 screen, but that might be sufficient if the actual device is small enough. Would make a refreshing change from the bulk of my JasJar.
I think we'll be waiting a pretty long time for something that truly outdoes the JasJar on all fronts...
Maybe a fast Universal with no memory leaks and more storage space...
don't hold back ssarl, say what you think lol! but I have to agree, shame they don't make a linux or osx based one eh!
Maybe HTC Trinity??
No idea, how the specs of this device are ...
I love my Exec, but wish the battery was of a higher capacity.
My next device will be the same shape hopefully (love the twisting faux-notebook clamshell design) but a tad smaller - theres wasted space around the screen I could live without!
It'll continue to take a full SD card, nothing less, it'll hopefully have a 4 to 8Gb hard drive, it'll have 3G AND quad band, it'll be pre-loaded with the Bluetooth Stereo and Bluetooth Remote Control Profiles, it'll have Opera in ROM (I can dream!), it'll come with the MS Voice Command software in ROM too, and I'll get it for less than £130 on contract at xmas, just like my Exec.
Oh and the MSN Messenger will use the front facing cam too as a webcam.
Make it happen MS/HTC/O2. And by the 20th of December this year pls. Daddy needs a new toy this christmas.
EDIT: Yeah, GPS too, latest SIRF chipset please - how could I forget that?
What he said, but with built in GPS.
Oh, and a microwave would benice too
Pick the Advance TC M.A.G.I.C. From my take, this is the best device possible to upgrade to:
http://www.advancetc.com/
That M.A.G.I.C. does look pretty good, but after the Uni, I'll be going for something a little smaller.
Not sure if they'll ever see the light of day, but did anyone see the devices from a new Chinese OEM that appeared on engadgetmobile.com yesterday? They look fairly promising, WM5, WCDMA, WiFi, GPS, USB OTG, 512Mb RAM & ROM, 2Mpx Camera, etc, etc.
They'll probably take about a year to come out in China, let alone anywhere else (and that's assuming it isn't vapourware from the start), but they're the sort of specs that I'll be looking for when I upgrade.
I'd like a decent FM radio - I'd like to listen to Radio 4 on the way to work.

I really like this one...
Windows XP Tablet Pc Edition and Windows Mobile 5 in one device.
40 GIG hard drive.
1 GIG ddr2 ram an 1 GIG NAND Flash Memory.
3 USB 2 ports etc etc
The only thing I mis is a hardware keyboard.

I like the widescreen 800x480 screen that the dualcor has... shame about the keyboard though. Since upgrading from an XDA II to EXEC i have come to realise the usefulness of a built-in keyboard.
being able to run xp is brilliant too... it would be nice to be able to run win xp based programs/games that you really need...
The dual cor is nice, but it would probably leave a huge burn mark on our pockets.
I do prefer Linux... But if something can run XP it can run Linux )
Hopefuly...
Cheers!

Suggest that you look at the Sharp Zaurus SL-C3200 if you want LINUX.
Similar size to the Universal including swivel screen & real VGA with 6gb hard disk as well as CF & SD slots, but no phone facilities. It can run a number of different LINUX distros.
I use my Zaurus alongside the Universal for the things that the Universal cant handle.
Mike
Mike,
Thanks
But there are some problems.
1st of all I need TomTom.
2nd I need phone I just can't imagine caring TWO devices all the time
Also, I do need email, web browser, keyboard etc
At this moment ONLY Universal seems to be doing the trick.
Thanks anyway!
Cheers!

Then it's quite clear: the M.A.G.I.C. is for you!!

Except that does not have a VGA screen, is bigger than the Universal, and since it has 512mb of ram will have around an hours battery life...
Basically, I would'nt count on it.
Whell guys.... Im just waitting to put my hands on a SE p990....
This universal busness is starting to suck.... btooth is a major flaw.... the signal stinks compared to £30 mobile phones... wifi is also another disapointment with poor range.....and as for the battery wont even mention that..... I was willing to put up with its size since previous I had to carry both a pda and a phone separatelly but....
....This would be a very nice device for my daily buisness runnings withouth a doubt but unfortunatelly as it stands its only good in my opinion for enthusiastic people that like to have a good mess around with it.... as far as a buisness tool as it was intended or at least marketed its just a failure until such further development...
At least with sony on knows that it will be released singing and dancing and also that nice uiq system....
Ill buy a p990 and keep this one for a while still and see how things go before i blow my trompet any further
BR
hum maybe about 2gb storage 128ram faster access time on data, wifi that lets u log on with out the need for ssid enabled @ the router , full size vids in media player "tcptp" ect, ect, not fan of adding stuff that was in xda ii,(I think but all my vids were low res similar size to screen) ow maybe composite video out, audio out is just gr8 don’t go backward’s 3.5 jack is gr8 , hum maybe similar keyboard that was on Psion 5 but it's not too bad as it is. A descent bt stack & mapping of network resources like printers, hard drives. USB port that hosts & maybe have an accessory power pack on cable to run hi power devices for longer times. 5mp camera and msn messenger that supports webcam & bt head set for chat & possibly file transfer.
 we all can dream, would be nice to watch vids like I used to on my xdaii but it just is not fast enough running @ 640 * 480 and all my old vids are now too small in media player and not really wanting to add more space taking software
 ow well defiantly went over board but would be nice though

Quake on VGA devices

Hello everyone,
I used to LOVE playing Quake 1 on my Magician - I remember when I got my Safecom wifi card - and I was playing against my friends on desktop PC's on my phone through wifi.
It was the most astonishing thing I could show people on my device.
Absolutely great.
I was actually almost competitive due to the stylus look and the sheer usability of the port. It was pocket Quake-AUX1-Xscale port.
I completed the whole of the original game on my phone whilst I was out and about.
It was, a gaming experience I have not had again on windows mobile.
now I have my Advantage - a VGA all singing device running Mobile 6 - and my magician port of quake just gives me a blank screen
I would LOVE to be able to play Quake on this device as I have built in Wifi and HOST USB so I work with Keyboard and wireless mouse plugged in.
Is there anyone who can offer any advice/help - maybe point me to some newer ports?
Maybe even help me to mod the port in some way or the settings....
I am playing Wolfenstien - this is GREAT - Litterally works 100% but Quake seemed to be 100% on my magician and I have taken a step back.
I really want to be able to start Quake server on my PC - then 2 people join using Quake port for PSP - then I join on my AMeo and own them all cos I have mouse and keyboard MUHAHAAHAHAA!
Anyone share my love of Quake and have more knowledge?
MANY THANKS!

Can I us my Titan as a touch pad for my computer?

I thought i saw something like that on this great forum once, but i can't find it now so if somebody could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.
What brings about this question? well i saw this video http://digital.xy.hk/news/?postid=729 where a dude uses his iphone as a touchpad for his shift, and i thought it was really cool and wanted to do this myself.
ps if an iphone can do it, then my titan should be able to do it correct?
I have had a good experience with
PPC Tablet Remote Control Suite
It has a ton of other stuff like remote desktop, but one of its 'modules' is a touchpad mouse control for your computer.
I don't think it uses bluetooth, but I haven't had any problems at all getting it working over the wifi connection.
It says WM6 isn't supported yet, but I used it with a custom cooked no2chem 5060 WM6.1 rom and it worked fine for me.
If you hear of a simpler solution let me know, I'd love to have something that JUST works as a touchpad without all the other junk I won't use.
thanks
Thank you, i will def try this out soonish (two organic chem midterms this week so no phone playing time only library time)

No Wlan Connection

Hello - I just got my Shift yesterday. German Edition.
It works well. The only Thing is I do not get the WLAN to work.
I have 2 WLAN stations with G and N standard activated but I do not get a
connection. Certainly I enabled the WLAN in Vista with the THC Tool.
I also tried to do settings in the device driver.
But Windows Vista still does not find any network ( WLAN ).
EDGE is working when tunred on.
PLEASE HELP - OTHERWISE I SEND IT BACK.
Thank you in advance
Marcus
Send it back (sorry, couldn't help myself)
Hi Markus,
I had the "same" problem. I could not get a connection with my Netgear Router. Then I tried another one from t-mobile, what is its name? Speedport or something and everything works nicely.
So go somewhere and try a different router. Maybe it helps.
S.
I'm using a cheap old modem/router and it works 100%...I would try and different router too borrowed from a friend. You need to keep the Shift
Hello
So I decided to send the Shift back.
I am not willing gaming around with wlan. I spent about 6 hours.
WLAN ist a standard for years and my routers are absolutly standrd.
Why should I buy a new router while I am having some of the best on the market which work with all notebooks and computer and also iphone + htc kaiser ?
I Think they used a very damn wlan crad. Why not using a intel wlan ?
All in all the testing of the shift was funny. A nice UMPC with a very lack of having a Display showing 1024x600 Pixel. The 800x480 are useless.
So here I end my writing.
Much more fun - I wait for the next revision with Intel ATOM CPU.
Hard to know if it was your wlan or the Shift, or you? What is clear is the Shift isn't for you, because experience tells me if you had the issue above and you liked your Shift then you would have invested the time in finding a solution...
1024 x 600 is fine if you have microscopes for eyes...I have connected with about 7 wlans so far, without issue....Intel Atom CPU, might be good, who knows, but might the same too - we are talking low voltage here so there will still be limitations - Intel does not mean perfect by any means.
What we really need for this market is a more suitable OS, not beefed up hardward.
Hello - sorry you are wrong with me
I own even 2 more Samsung UMPCs and are familiar with a lot of mobile phones and devices ( it is my job).
We live in the 2008 and WLAN is a world wide standard.
A device with wlan has just to work.
Also I invested about 8 hours testing with drivers.
I am also windows certified on vista.
Even with this knowledge I did only get a connection to a neigbors wlan.
I own an apple aitport express configured as g+n
and an AVM 7270 with B+G configured.
The last 12 month I tested about 87 notebooks and about 40 mobile phones. All did work at once. Also many HTC devices.
The Shift did now.
Also I own a Sony mini Computer with a 5 Zoll Display and it is just better than the HTC - 800x480 is not made for vista.
Even the Shift startup Windows are not displayed correctly.
Sorry - it is very easy to read on a 1024x768 Display.
I think you just did not see a good one yet.
Vista also can configure the fonts so that is very good to read.
About the CPU - if you once see an AMTOM CPU you will never post something like you did. It is just amazin. I had one to test here.
I think the Shift is a good beta device - last year it woud have been a wow, but it was just released in germany and it is dissapointing.
Sorry !
Best reagrds
As I told you - I wait for Release 2 in some month
Hey man, I'm not upset or anything by your post, hope you aren't with mine, because I didn't intend that
I don't have access to the wonderful things that you do by the sounds of it, so if I have a device that has a error with something I tend to stick with it until I find a solution - I don't really have any other choice. So, when my Shift didn't pick up 3G properly I stuck by and tweaked it until it did. Sorry if I sounded insensitive - I know what it's like for something to not work...very frustrating.
Re the screen - I have seen the hi def wonders out there, and I've seen the blunders like OQO01 (dim and sorta blurry)...I actually like the Shift resolution for day to day use, but I guess if it had the option to support true 1024*768 then it would be better suited to everyone. I think you're right, the next version will most likely have better resolution...
OK, I will keep an open mind about the Atom...maybe it can answer our performance issues for these UMPC's (it's clear Via isn't up to the task either at present), although I will stick with my preference for the OS manufacturers to provide a better option than Vista, or at least a different "type" of Vista. XP is perfectly adequate and would probably fly on this thing esp with a gig of RAM....
I didn't realise until recently the Shift had been announced for so long...so even with relatively new eyes on it, it answered many of my needs - especially the pocket PC side...I paid $1400 for a Jornada 720 when they first came out, and so this device with a PC side, and connectivity at $2000 seems like a fair price. It's all dependant on ones points of relativity I guess.
Anyways, all the best, and I hope you find the right device for you...cheers

Redfly

Anyone else use this device?
I chose to purchase the Touch Pro and the RedFly instead of the Shift.
I do see on celiocorp.com that the Touch Pro is not yet supported, I went ahead & purchased it anyway due to the fact that its on sale for $199 until Oct. 31.
has anyone tested any of the current drivers for the supported windows mobile 6.1 devices and get it to connect with the Touch Pro?
Any helpful information would be appreciated, thank you.
woohoo! i got it working!
i'm glad i made this choice instead of the shift.
Hi,
I bought it too, and use it with my TouchPro, using one of the BETA-drivers for regular QVGA devices.
So it does not work well yet...everything is at least twice if not four times as big as it should be on the screen, Opera does not work either.
BUT even so...I still use the RedFly a lot (notes in meetings, and some surfing in PIE at home in the evenings)....so this promises well for later!
When the actual Diamond/TouchPro drivers come (from what I have heard, Celio is working on it as-we-speak), this will get a lot better...looking forward to that...then I can park my laptop most of the time, and use the RedFly for practically all my "on the go" stuff.
And then with RedFly against LogMeIn (www.logmein.com), I can also take over work- and home-PC's remotely, and do everything the RedFly itself can't do.
In short...love the RedFly...and at 199 USD...the price was just right for me!
And before people start hammering out that you can get a laptop for X dollars...I do not want a laptop...I actually like that the RedFly has looong batterylife, that it is instant on, that it does not get warm, that I do not need to install/setup another PC (I got many enough at work and home as it is. So for me...RedFly is "the thing"!
Can you use the VGA out and usb ports on the redfly? What output resolution? What can you plug into the usbs?
its not 100%, but it works well.
i can't wait until the updated drivers are released.
i did alot of research b4 purchasing the Touch Pro. i had an HTC Advantage x7501 and i wanted to downsize. i couldnt decide between a pocketpc or an umpc & a standard cell.
my biggest thing is i wanted to be able to pick up the phone w/ ease and be able to use it without a headset as well as have access to my emails, mobile apps, etc.
I had gotten used to the 7 inch screen on my advantage... so then i saw the Redfly and it was perfect! it doesnt replace a laptop, but it does make my pocketpc more user friendly. i'm able to utilize my mobile apps on an 8 inch screen and keyboard.
i use alot of apps that i hadn't b4.

go to www.celiocorp.com , it will give you all the tech. details to the device.
I am using my Touch Pro with an eeePC 900... perfect combination of full WinXP mini laptop and mobile internet. Plus I charge my Pro from the eee while in use too!
I'm experimenting now with RedFly - as my Raphael is on repair vacation - with Hermes. So fa so good and the current price ($199) is still a bit above it's real value (takieng into account eeePC - especially 901 - and similar devices). All I can say now is that 800x480 screen requires a lot of processing power and Hermes is barely able to handle this. I hope, that Raphael with it's mush speedier processor will work better.
The big problem so far is incompatibility with Opera 9.5 on Hermes for both OVGA and VGA versions.
i prefer the redfly over my eeepc 1000HD, because my goal is to utilize the pocketpc, software and processor thats available on it; that is why i chose to purchase a pocket pc over a standard cell & carrying a umpc or a mini pc.
i luv the fact that you don't have to wait for it to boot, and it uses your phone for the processor.
i think the price is perfect, being that i paid $100 for my stowaway bluetooth keyboard a year back.
it works well with my Touch Pro and I'm sure it will work much better once the drivers are released that support the Touch Pro.
i highly recommend it.
I have had the RedFly for another week now...and use it more and more...and the batterylife is exceptional. Brought the RedFly and my TouchPro on a trip last weekend (left on friday morning)...and dropped bringing a charger, thought the RedFly could charge my phone.
And during the weekend I used the RedFly over usbcable in the evenings while surfing...and the phone got charged from 50-60% to full both times.
And used the RedFly regularily during this week over bluetooth in meetings and a little surfing in the evenings.
And still have not charged the RedFly...one week later...that is truly amazing for a guy who is used to a 1.5-2 hour batterylife on my laptop. Of course this is not an laptop...but it sure does the job for me.
Miss the drivers though.
Would like to use Opera (which fails with current drivers), higher resolution.
Another issue, which really is not anRedFly issue, but an issue with HTC/LogMeIn, is that LogMeIn has a few snags with the TouchPro and TouchDiamond...the hardware keyboard of the TouchPro (and thereby also the RedFly is affected) does not work with LogMeIn at the moment (have just raised a ticket with support at LogMeIn, but I am sure someone has already done so before).
When I have the drivers, with Opera and resolution fixed, AND LogMeIn fixes their issues with TouchPro...my RedFly will be my soulmate! :-D
Only stuff I would use a "real computer for" then will be when I sit and develop software at work (I work with developing software for Windows Mobile)...for that stuff I still prefer a big 24" screen with mega resolution!
I tried Shift but found the battery quite disappointing. I then tried the X7510 but the keyboard is good but not good enough for note taking at work.
Have been using Redfly for a few days with my touchpro. Things I like about Redfly:
1) Almost instant-on (extremely pleased with the responsiveness)
2) Excellent battery life (more than enough for an office day)
3) The $199 price (probably the best price performance option at this point).
4) Least maintenance (when I refresh my touchpro to a newer rom, the performance on redfly also improves. On top of it, I no longer to keep syncing files in 2 separate devices.)
5) Performance with a touchpro is very good on USB/BT pairing. (no complaint)
Things on my wish list for the future Redfly.
1) Size and weight could be slimmer and lighter.
2) Other users have mentioned about touchpro driver and video improvement.
3) May be more flexibilities to allow users to map buttons to programs.
4) So simple that it could become boring to use after a while.
Overall, I am quite happy with my new Redfly.
Man, I just got my Alltel ppc 6800 upgraded to wm6.1 and got my Redfly and now I'm already drooling over your Pros. The ram on the 6800 just gets overloaded too easily, the Pro would fix that entirely.
LogMeIn though on the 6800 is close to perfect, you can run all the Enterprise level stuff like SAP that just crawls on VPN on a notebook at real network speeds using LogMeIn and the Redfly, it makes the Redfly/phone combo actually seriously better than a regular notebook on the road for big applications on the corporate network. Using LogMeIn on a 2.8 inch screen used to make me want to claw my own eyes out but on the Redfly it works fine, for a guy who spends a lot of time on the road this is sweet. The only problem I have now is I can't update my Ipod on the road, I love podcasts and there is no easy way to get them on my ipod touch without a computer.

How do you use your Touch Pro *with* your eeePC... do they connect - and does the eeePC display the screen from the Touch pro?
Or are you just tethering and using them together that way?
I have an ASUS AspireOne and am very intrigued.
Hi there,
Can you be more specific about the exact driver that you got to work with the Touch Pro? Also, was yours a Sprint Touch Pro? I'm assuming that they have NOT been, and there may be some carrier-specific incompatibilities that are going to make me wait for an official driver.
thanks for any wisdom!

The tytnII driver works but unfortunately you cannot use the touchflo 3d today plug-in. The touch pro driver beta is coming out pretty soon as they have started looking for some beta testers.
I'm guessing you don't have a *SPRINT* Touch Pro that you've gotten to work with the tytnII drivers? I have seen from other threads that this may be a totally incompatible combination.
I disabled TouchFlo, installed the drivers and the Redfly didn't connect.
I can also confirm that the Sprint Touch Pro does not work with those drivers... The driver installs fine, and the phone recognizes that something is connected to it, but the redfly does not connect to the phone.
Redfly support confirmed that the driver was coming out soon. I can't wait. I have two and they are both plugged in and charging until they can be used...
It is sad to see the cute little red box on my desk every day and not being able to use it.

I get the same results. I hope the driver comes out soon!
Download for the Beta drivers for Touch Pro/Diamond at the Celio website. Also will need to update the Redfly firmware to get these drivers to work.
