GSM phones will not work on CDMA networks. But there are GSM networks in USA too.

the incredible has cdma 800/1900 bands so it should work in those countries. those countries have the same bands but don't quote me on that.
no it wont
the droid will not work over seas it need a gsm card in the back of it like blackberrys have and it does not

CDMA is available in those countries but these devices don't support a R-UIM card. You would have to contact those carriers to have them add you to their network. I'm not sure how this would work if you are still under contract with Verizon. The easiest solution is to carry and unlocked GSM phone with you when you travel and use prepaid cards.
Edit: I forgot about Roaming. if you want to pay roaming charges you can roam there. Here is the CDMA roaming table with costs.

That is incorrect. See this table.
cdma phones are limited to 40 countries, nothing in Europe. Useless to import this phone for use in the uk.

will the x10a work on bell?

Hi,
Sorry if this is already posted elsewhere. I did a search and couldn't find a definitive answer. I was just wondering if I were to get my x10a from Rogers unlocked, would it work on Bell or Telus?
yes it would work with Bell or Telus
Really? Those useless Telus reps I called can't even confirm to me that the phone is able to run on the Telus network. I even told her I had friends that had this phone on the Telus network. -.-
Oh well! Time to get mine soon, hopefully. Sigh. Long way to go!

I had a LG chocolate from telus before my x10, and I know it didn't have a sim card, I don't think any telus phones have a sim card... I have never tried to set up a phone from another carrier into telus, mind you, I just know that you can't bring a telus phone to another carrier that uses sim cards, because there isn't one.

Well there site says they use em.

i think people have trouble with updates without using the authorized dealers.
You are better off with rogers even it is expensive.
im using the x10a from rogers on bell right now, got it unlocked and it works perfectly. =)
Use X10a on TELUS, work perfectly.
Make sure you enter the right APN information for the data connection.
TELUS runs on UMTS/HSPA 850MHz, 1900MHz.
X10a supported 850MHz, 900MHz, 1900MHz, and 2100MHz
been with all 3 canadian carriers in past year. i must say rogers is not only marginally cheaper then the other two, but are more "with the times" .
bell is just horrible, they seem to think the iphone 3gs is the latest greatest phone......riiiggghhtt... bell and telus both have horrible cust service..
sorry to vent but instead of going through the hastle of putting a rogers phone on a crappier network....just switch!!. and as of this month rogers 3g speeds are over double what i got with telus and bell...

I'm using an x10a I got from Rogers on the Bell network. It works fine after you unlock it. After you root it, it gets rid of the Rogers splash screen as well. The only catch is you have to manually input Bell's APN or your 3G won't work.
The only reason I stuck with Bell is because of a deal I got through retention to renew my contract. I wouldn't be able to get anything if I sign up new to Rogers. Which begs the question, why was I with Bell in the first place...

As far as I know.. From MY own experience. Rogers .. I would like to say
The name that suits them best is "Robbers"
Telus by far has the most superior cust service and because I am on a rentention plan I will stick with Telus. Of course I want my Xperia x10 on the network & YES I will get my phone tomorrow and hopefully everything goes right.
I'm just glad to find out the x10 works on Telus network

[Q] CDMA carriers in Spain?

Hey XDA, just got a quick question. Im heading to Spain on a trip tomorrow and I want to take my phone with me. Im on Verizon right now (Galaxy Nexus) and was wondering if there were any CDMA carriers in Spain to connect to. Searched the net but havent found anything yet. Too lazy to call Verizon and thought you guys would be more helpful. If you know any carriers, lemme know and I'll look em up. I always thought spain was a GSM only country but I can always hope.
I sold my old global phones way back when so I dont have anything left to use hah...
There are no CDMA operators in europe (for general phone service).
Unfortunately, Europe is GSM only. Your Verizon Nexus wouldn't get any service there at all. You could only use it for wifi. Verizon would be able to loan you a "global" phone to use there if you want to keep your phone number. However, it wouldn't be as nice as your current phone, it'd probably either be a basic flip-phone or a BlackBerry at best.
Otherwise, you'd have to rent a phone there and get a local sim, but you'd get another phone number as well.

Using on At&t?

I'd like to buy this and use on AT&T.
What hoops do I have to jump through to make this happen?
The frequencies are supported (don't care about LTE).
For example if I buy unsubsidized on Amazon, do I have to call Verizon up and get a code from them that will let me use it on AT&T and other GSM carriers?
It's locked for US GSM bands, as far as I know. P3Droid has said that they're working on getting it unlocked. I'm sure we'll hear about it when it happens.
I bought my RAZR M at Amazon (Verizon, without contract) and i use it in Germany with O2 Provider.
No Problem, nothing needed. It´s not locked.

Correctamundo (sp). In further searching it looks like they block the MNC for at&t and t-mobile inside the radio firmware NV settings. Also there is a pesky "unknown sim" or something that pops up every bootup.
Working in India/Asia ?
Hi,
I'm planning to buy one in my visit to US next week. I intend to use it with GSM India.
Has anyone used the phone with GSM provider in India or other asian countries? I was told that GSM capabilities works only in european countries , so wanted to make sure of it before I buy it.
Thanks
Just check and make sure the bands that your network uses are supported. It supports all the standard GSM bands, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

[Q] Possible to Unlock?

Hi I wanted to buy this pone from amazon, but the thing is that I would buy the sprint versión with no contract and I don't live in the US, so my question is, can I unlock this pone to use it with any other company? like Movistar? I read that the pone was GSM so I thought it would be posible, however I won't take the risk of paying 590 dollars for a pone that I can't use, thanks

What do you mean if I dont know dont tell? What does that supposed to mean?
I KNOW my Cellular Networks!
Sprint is a CDMA Network!
The ONLY part about sprint that is NOT CDMA is LTE which the sim card slot is LOCKED to sprint.
They MIGHT be a fix but right now there is NOT. Some of the older phones like the Moto Photon its not LTE but its a world phone and people could flash a few things and make it work, But only EDGE in the USA anyway.
But as of right now and problay for a while its NOT going to work.

I expect Sprint will provide a method soon to unlock the GSM and UMTS functions in the phone to be able to use it internationally. However, I don't expect the GSM and UMTS functions to operate inside the US. Sprint has always disabld them on GSM capable Android and iOS devices it sells.
I don't see why it wouldn't work for you as long as you can get it unlocked.
Sprint is not going to unlock it for you unless you are a long time customer or have the phone with them for 90 days.
hyelton is completely wrong though.. the sim does authenticate lte on sprint but also acts as a gsm sim internationally.
you can also remove the sim and insert any international sim once unlocked providing the carrier uses the correct bands.

You are all kinds of WRONG.
Sprint's GS4 is fully capable of voice and data on international GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz networks. You have to request Sprint to unlock your phone's sim (or find a work around if you're not a Sprint customer), but once unlocked you can pop in any international sim and it will WORK JUST FINE on international GSM networks, they don't have to support LTE. Heck the only thing preventing the SG4 from working on US GSM networks is Sprint locked the Sim from using USofA GSM carrier sim cards.
As long as the OP can get their Sprint SG4 sim unlocked, they can pop in their international sim and use the GSM in their country NO PROBLEM like any other GSM phone.
SO ONCE AGAIN, Sprint's SG4 has a fully functioning GSM modem that supports international carrier GSM/HSPA+/UMTS 850/900/1900/2100MHz bands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You would think someone with almost 2,000 posts and who made a statement like "I KNOW my Cellular Networks!" would know better. Do yourself a huge favor and actually know what you're talking about before you go spouting off again, because you really made yourself look like an ignorant fool.

Well YES you can easily use your phone overseas, But it was POSTED in the Sprint Forum which is ONLY in the USA and in which using it does NOT apply in the USA. And to get the phone unlocked I`m not sure if a regular unlocking company would be able to do it someone with a sprint account would and it would be MUCH more trouble than just to pick up a ACTUAL GSM carriers Version of the phone.( I should had just said that to begin with) Its VERY pointless to TRY and want to use the sprint Version when they are SEVERAL OTHER varrients that are GSM they could have got to use.
EXCEPT... the op specifically said they wanted to purchase it from Amazon America to use on their country's GSM network.
Why they want to do that? WHO KNOWS, maybe it might be cheaper doing it this way, but that is what they want to do and despite all your unnecessary wrongful information, the OP can do what they asked as long as they can get the sim unlocked.

Even IF the phone is capable of being used in GSM bands internationally, you would have to get it unlocked by sprint and they change policies all the time so just call..

Yea.... but it ONLY works internationally AND you have to be a sprint customer.
The POINT I have been trying to get across is that people need to understand Sprint is a CDMA carrier and ONLY relies on GSM for LTE. I think what people think is that they are solely a gsm carrier like most of the world is but its NOT
