Answer without using bluetooth device - Mogul, XV6800 General

If I have a bluetooth device connected to my XV-6800, is there a setting or something I can do that will allow me to answer the phone with the call button on the phone, but have it connect to the bluetooth device? Right now if I hit the call button, it only goes through the phones speaker as if the bluetooth device was not connected. For me to answer a call using the bluetooth device, I have to hit the button on the bluetooth device.
Thanks,
Jeff

That's really strange. I know that I don't have the same phone as you (I have touch Elf). I have noticed this. When I have my device connected to bluetooth headset or my handsfree car kit, I can still hit the green call button to anser the phone when I get a call and the call is still transmitted to my bluetooth. I can even still make a call by hitting the green call button, dialing the number and still all through bluetooth.
It sounds like your device is not associating properly with the bluetooth device. Go into your bluetooth settings and check to make sure that you are connected properly for hands free - Go to settings - bluetooth and click on your device to make sure that hands free is checked.
I have also noticed that on a rare occasion, my bluetooth does not connect properly and although paired, does not transmit and sound did come through phone when it shouldn't have. To fix this, I did a soft reset and all was good. It happened to me about three times since I bought the phone in Dec 2007.

The bluetooth is properly connected. When I make a call and hit the green call button, it does go through the bluetooth device. It is only when answering a call it does not go through the bluetooth device when I hit the green call button. Yes, very strange. Oh well, I was hoping somebody might have some insight.

What radio and Windows ROM are you using? I know that some of the different ones fixed some BT issues. When my headset is connected it always goes to my headset no matter what I push. Sometimes I have it in my pocket and forget and then can't hear anything on the phone. I believe you can force it to go to your headset after answering the call though.

I am currently using DCD 3.2.6 with radio 3.37.75. To be honest I am not sure I have tried it with this combination. But, I have had the problem with a DCD rom, I just don't remember which radio.

My phone has always bypassed the bluetooth earpiece if I press the answer button on the phone and not the button on the earpiece. It did it from day one with the stock verizon rom and it still does it with my custom dcd rom.
I like the option of bypassing the earpiece to answer a call, especially in a crowd. Also I have the incoming calls announced thru the earpiece. This allows me to know who is calling without even looking at the phone or touching it to answer it thru the earpiece.
This is my insight on this. I hope this helps.

Are you using Voice Command? Is the sound very low?

Mine operates the same way. I don't beleive this is a "flaw", and may vary by type of bluetooth device being used. OP is looking for a way to override this setting / feature if anyone knows. Personally, I like the option of taking it on the phone for privacy reasons as my BT device is through the car speakers.

I agree, I don't necessarily think it is a flaw. I would prefer to have mine answer with the bluetooth if I hit the green call button. I was just wondering if there is a setting some where that I am overlooking to have it the way I would prefer.
I just tried it again with the DCD 3.2.6 and 3.37.75 radio. As has been mentioned above, it does not appear to be related to a rom or radio, it is a feature of the phone.
A friend of mine has an iphone, and when they get a phone with a bluetooth earpiece enabled, they get options on the screen which say answer, answer on phone, or ignore. Or something along those lines. I like having those options, but understand if it is not available on the 6800.
Thanks for all of the replies.

Receiving a call when unit is cradled

Both my colleague and I use XDA2s and we work in the same office. Today, both of us have had incoming calls, while the unit is in its cradle. I took mine out of the cradle, checked who was calling and hit the green button. The call was answered (according to the display) but I could hear nothing. My colleague had exactly the same happen to him, from a different caller. Has anyone else had this, or is there a technique to answering a call when the XDA is in its cradle?
Hello,
I have had no problem answering calls from within the cradle -
I did exactly as you said - picked up the device from the cradle, but I pressed the "answer" button on the screen, all works fine for me.
Cheers
I have answered lots of times the same way with no problems, I've even put the unit on speakerphone... Very handy when cradled...
Did you use a headset before?
The following happend for me once:
I use the headset for listening music. Phone is ringing. I unplug the headset, because I have a poor quality Hama one, and in a loudy bus, the internal speaker of the PDA is better.
But I hear nothing. The only way to take a phone call, with the headset.
I think the PDA's headset connector switch was wrong. After I plug and unplug the headset many times, my wallaby worked. (The PDA felt the headset plugged, so switch off the speaker but the headset wasn't pluged. Soft reset did not help)
This is my story

There is a setting, to automatically switch on speakerphone when PDA in the cardle?
Thanks!
Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. Neither of us had used headphones, but we both have BT headsets, which we had used that morning - one's a Jabra BT200 and the other is a Bluetrek G2. I don't know whether that is relevant or not.
If anyone out there uses a BT headset and can tell me how they select a number from contacts and ring it so that the headset works - I'd like to know! Mine only seems to work if initiate the call from the headset.
(off topic, sorry) is there any way of getting the phone to answer calls/dial calls in hands free mode? or creating a profile that does so (ie when i am in car and xda is in a (non handsfree) cradle.

I do not know if this feature is availble. I did a little search on my imate but did not find such a feature! but will be nice to have it!
The only option available is to asnwer received calls after certain rings!
it would be worth cheching how old the rom version is on your xda2 as there is an issue with the very early versions of the rom (1.03.00) for example. In this version nither the cell line or the gprs cant be connected while the XDA2 is in its cradle. current version should be 1.60.00.

Bluetooth headset / answering calls

Hi,
So when you have a Bluetooth headset connected it's a fair expectation for calls (audio) to be routed through to it, right?
When making a call this happens as per expect.
However if you ANSWER a call via the handset itself (hard button or slider) then the call is kept local to the handset, it's only if you answer the call via your button on your Bluetooth headset that the call is routed to there.
Now you can once in the call select the "Handsfree On" from the menu to transfer it to the headset once you've realised your mistake, but surely this is a bit of a pain.. no?
I for one will most of the time physically pick up the handset and take a look who is calling before answering it (unless driving etc), so would like to just press the answer button and away I do.
Ideas anyone?
(Thanks!)

I have the same on my iPhone using my In-car bluetooth.
If I answer using the bluetooth answer button it goes thru the car speakers. If I use the handset answer button, it uses the iPhone itself, though I can then select to change it to the bluetooth from the iPhone.
I haven't received my Brodit cradle for my HD2 yet, so I've not set it up in the car yet, but I'm expecting the same arrangement I guess.

Hmm, I guess it's a case of personal preference - while you and I seem to agree I guess other may like the way it is. The answer is therefore a way to CONFIGURE this behaviour - anyone know if this is possible?
Same thing happens on my Topaz... didn't happen in my Omnia though.
I would like to know a way to alter it as well.
Has anyone tried the Car Kit Mode bluetooth option on the HD2 in the Sense UI 'Settings' tab then 'Other' at the bottom of the list, where you can tick or untick the box for autoconnect? I haven't but would like to know if it works for you.

Not really. A carkit is also a bluetooth headset. When I'm in the car and not driving, I can always choose to answer with the carkit - then everyone in the car can join in the conversation - or answer it on the device, which I prefer when my wife is driving and the kids are in the back. Even though I've made the mistake of using the slider when I really wanted the call on the carkit, I find having the choice a pretty good deal actually.
And besides, when using a headset, who's gonna take the phone out of their pocket to answer the call when all you need do is touch your headset - or better still set it to auto answer on headset calls. And if you really *need* to know who is calling first, why not install MSVC to have the phone tell you who is calling? Seriously, what's the point in using a headset if you're gonna take the phone out of your pocket anyway?

[Q] Audio doesn't go to bluetooth when answer

With my G1, when I'd answer a call using the phone itself (either the hardware button or the on-screen button), the audio would be routed to the bluetooth headset automatically (when it was connected).
With the Aria, when I answer a call using the on-screen buttons on the phone, it routes the audio to the phone. Then I have to hit menu and select bluetooth quickly, or the caller hangs up because they don't hear me. This is very inconvenient when I'm driving, and negates the purpose of having the bluetooth headset in the first place.
Yes, the obvious solution is to answer calls using the button on the headset, but I can't train myself to do that. And like I said, when it's connected to bluetooth, it should route audio to the headset by default anyway.
Anyone know a solution to this?
Nobody sees this as an issue?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
This was happening too me... It was because I was answering the call on the phone and not the bluetooth... Answering with the bluetooth solved the problem.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Seems pretty straightforward. Answer with phone, audio is on phone. Answer with BT, audio is on BT. Exactly what I want when I answer in my car since BT goes over car speakers.
Ok, I'm glad YOU like it, but I don't. If my headset is connected, I want audio to go to the headset. Else, I wouldn't bother putting it on my ear and connecting it to my phone.
So, does anyone know if there is a way to change it?

I don't think there is a way to change it...
You don't have a button on your headset to answer the call? I would think touching a button near you eary would be just as easy or easier than sliding your finger across your phone in the appropriate spot.
In California it is illegal to have the phone in your hand at all while driving. Even to answer the phone. Perhaps that is why Android does this.
I DO have a button on my headset. My phone sits in a holder in my van, pointing at me. When it rings, I look to see who's calling and instictively push the answer button on the phone, as that's what I'm used to doing when I'm NOT driving. THEN, I have to open the menu, and and find the bluetooth option while driving. Bluetooth is supposed to make driving safer, not more cumbersome.
As I said, if I have the bluetooth connected, why wouldn't I want audio routed to it? I don't put the thing on my ear just to look good! LOL
I agree with OP. I thought this was a bug in the ROM. Every other phone I have used has this convention - when bluetooth is connected, audio gets routed through the headset - in and out. At least, there should be an option to change the default behaviour in Android/Aria. If I am holding the phone in my hands, I intuitively answer the call on the phone and annoyingly the calls doesn't get routed to headset Or, I am driving and before I start a conversation I want to see if it's worth risking a conversation while driving (even with headset). Again, phone is in my hand and I answer the call - bluetooth doesn't get audio.

Choose handset instead of Bluetooth

When I have my bluetooth headset on and my phone rings I would like to have a options box come up giving me the choice of which to answer the call with, bluetooth headset or handset. When I get a call it automatically goes to headset if I have it on. I have been using a Iphone and this is the default. If there an app or fix I can use for this.
The phone also seems to jump back to the headset even though I am on the handset, any ideas?

The call might go to bt headset, but you have always the option before answering the call to change from call options among phone speaker, bt headset and handset.

This doesn't seem to be the way my phone is working. When I have my bluetooth headset on but answer with my handset it doesn't give me an option, it just always goes to headset. After I press the green answer button I have to press the icon at the bottom to choose handset every time.
I am having this issue with my Plantronics and Sennheiser headsets.
This isn't an issue with a bluetooth device I have my home phones hooked up to, goes to my handset when I answer with my handset.

N910C Poland Android 6.0.1 Bluetooth Issue

Hi All
I have installed the Poland 6.0.1 Rom on my Note 4 and everything seem to be working correctly
When I connect my phone to my Car (Ford Ranger 2016 model) its sync's correctly, downloads the phonebook and everything. I can even from the car make a call and it pushes it to the phone correctly as the phone initiates the call and connects the call when they pick up.
The problem is that there is no audio on the speakers. I can mid call select speaker (on the phone) and can then have a conversation with someone over speaker phone but when I push it back to Bluetooth there is no audio.
This worked 100% on 5.1.1 but since the update to 6.0.1 I cannot hear anything on the car speakers even though all the other functions work correctly.
Is this something that can be fixed?

Yes I did. I factory reset just now and tried using it without installing any apps. I can steam music fine. Its just when you make a call that there is no audio. Everything else seem to be working perfectly. I can scroll the address book I can choose and change music, I can place calls with the exception that there is no audio when on a call.....

Hi.
I think this is a general problem plaguing this update.
I have Plantronics E50 Headset. Worked great with 5.1.1.
I use headset as hands-free and usually place calls by holding button on headset for 2 seconds and then issuing voice command "call <contact name>".
This is not done via S Voice but via standard Google app voice.
Like said, all worked great, no issues in 5.1.1.
What I get now after the update to 6.0.1(also Poland 910C, yes, I wiped all after update, but still same behavior), is that I can place calls using the headset + Voice command ("call <contact name>") and I get two outcomes:
1. if phone is unlocked(even if screen is turned off), call is placed, I get audio in the Bluetooth headset - normal behavior.
2. if phone is locked(either auto-locked after timeout and screen off, or locked after pressing power button), call is placed after voice command, but audio remains on the phone and is not transferred to Bluetooth. I need to pick up the phone and talk from it, or press the "bluetooth" button on the dialer window.
Strange is that if I pick up the phone, while locked, and place a call using emergency/favorites contacts, I do get audio in the Bluetooth headset every time.
Problem is that hands free is not usable anymore, since you need to do something on the phone after placing the call.
I think that in your case, call being placed via car Bluetooth system, the thing should be the same.
What I can suggest is to try and see if this works in your case when phone is unlocked.
Anyway, Samsung screwed up something either related to the Phone app, or related to the lock-screen... or both
Solution would be to go back to 5.1.1 or wait for next update, hoping that Samsung fixes this...
Cheers!

Yes the same behavior on the Car audio system as you describe except that the audio system regardless of how the call originates from says "Privacy Mode Enabled" and you cannot hear anything or they hear you until you disable the Bluetooth or enable the speaker (that disconnects the Bluetooth)
I have downgraded to 5.1.1 official for my country and yesterday while driving home on the phone with my wife mid call it cut the voice and enabled "Privacy Mode". I could not call again or receive calls over the Car Audio and it persisted even after I rebooted the phone, Turned the radio on and off and even unpaired the phone and paired it again. The call regardless of where of how its made directly goes into "Privacy mode" and you cant disable it
I got home and turned the car off and on again and only when the audio system completely reset after pairing the phone again it could make calls from the phone and car without defaulting to the "Privacy Mode"
Dis is definitely a Android issue with the calling as its a feature in Android and not on the car audio. Music streaming works flawlessly that use the same Bluetooth connection. Its just on calls that it does this and at random
