Overclocking

Has anyone managed to overclock the tytn with pocker hack master or xcpuscalar?
For me hack master freezes the device with every settings and
xcpuscalar only "underclocks". And shows false information about the device being overclocked.

Overclocking utilities for the PDA tend to be CPU specific. You'll need a utility that is designed for the Samsung CPU.

But for what overclocking? I am really happy with the current cpu speed

Those progs are supposed to support samsung cpu's.
Not a hundred percent sure about the specifk models,
too lazy to check.
Allthou I remember reading something about samsungs power saving on wm5 resetting the speeds and those two programs developers inadept or unwilling to circumvent that. Im guessing the former.
Since otherwise am betting they would do it.
And yes the speed is great. but overcloking is fun.

can someone enlight me on the definition of the "stacked cpu"???
have been surfing the net but didn't found anything...

I think it means that the cpu is soldered on the motherboard, you cannot "replace" it like in a normal computer.

I think it means that the cpu has many layers, so the stuff in the cpu is
stacked. Makes the cpu smaller etc.

I read something about what you say: something about first in last out or vice versa. in layer forms yes.
Something to figure out and post in webopedia or something trackable on the net.

Overclocking works fine for me.
I use xcpuscalar in auto-mode with the current settings :
200 mhz - 0-20%
400 mhz - 20-70%
500 mhz - 70-100%
Have had no problems with it - and the 200 mhz saves battery.

Mind running a few benchmarks? And check the speed from somewhere else
then xcpuscalar, it gives false readings.

I wouldn't have any idea how to do that.

Spb benchmark (free) and TCPMP also shows cpu speed, not sure about how reliably, but I guess more then xcpuscalar.
I would not trust xcpuscalars reading, when I tried it, it did too report 500mhz, but other programs showed 400 and benchmarks for 400 and 500 were the same.
The issue about xcpuscalars false readings has been discussed all over the net.

Under Clocking the unit really does not affect its stability, but really does extended the battery life, I have noticed about 40% increase in the battery life, when running the CPU at 200Mhz. :?

Has anyone tried PocketHackMaster 4.0 beta?

the beta 4.0 doesn't seem to support overclocking on the TyTN. Allegedly it will on the final version though...

Version v4.13.031 of Pocket Hackmaster has been released 12 Nov. 2006. Have anyone tried it? Thanks a lot!

Never mind. I tried it. Doesn't work. My TyTn needs a soft reset after testing.

Continious Overclocking to 247 MHZ, Safe??

Hey, i Am using the Omap Battery status plugin and I was wondering if I it was safe to overclock the device to 247 MHZ constantly so it will turn on and jump to 247 all the time. Will this have any longterm effect on the device? will it damage the cpu?? do i have to worry ??

Should be fine - have overclocked my wizard and artemis to 247mhz without a problem - many overclock to 260mhz.

Should be alright, since many htc devices are running on TI OMAP 850 cpus. Overclocked my Prophet a log time to 247MHz with no problems.

I don't think it will do any harm, I am clocking at 247 constantly, for about a half year. no prob so far

I overclock my MDA to 286Mhz and don't have any problems. YMMV, but given that the OMAP in the Herald is a newer rev, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little more headroom in it.

FYI: My Wing has arrived, and it's currently overclocked to 299MHz without any issues.

Never thought 299 would be stable on an OMAP, but it's definitly because of the newer revisions of the OMAPs in HTC latest devices. My old prophet would have burned by anything above 234/247MHz

312MHZ Freeze, okay after Soft reset, no evident damage.
I run it on 260 continuously now, do you run yours on 273 continuously ?

I ran it for two weeks stable, but at 286MHz I already had some sudden freezes.
I'm using 273MHz now with BatteryStatus CPU Scaler.
Running 273MHz continiously results in heavy battery drain (1 max 1,5 days), not a big surprise.

no damage to be expected on long term use ?

Nope. I used it on wizard for 2 years without problems.

Search either for OMAPclock or BatteryStatus (in the HTC Prophet section) I recommend last, because it has many other practical features you might like. OMAPclock would simply be for oc'ing. cheers

my wizard runs at 299 software crashes at 312 but the phone doesn't

sorry if this is a lil random but i've joined a couple of forums already and have lost track what is where, how do i go about installing the battery status plug in on my t-mobile wing, i have a link which can either give me a .cab file or the desktop set up, i know nothing about overclocking and would appreciate any advice to this, sorry if this was already in this thread

Download the latest BatteryStatus (CAB-file) from the sticky thread in the HTC Prophet section and copy it onto your Wing and doubleclick the CAB to install. Everything else should be easy to figure out, otherwise come back here

You can UNDERlock and save battery when you don't need the standard cpu clock......

well dude sometimes i feel tht the processor is way too slow .so i feel tht this might help

Battery Status is the best program for it in my opinion, overclocking may reduce battery life, and you have the risk of overheating the processor and cooking it, which is not covered by warrenty!
Before you start doing this, i would suggest you see how much free RAM you have, which is also shown with Battery status, or under Settings.
Making sure programs actually close, and are not just minimised can also help.

Overclocking - is it possible?

i am wondering if there is any possibility to overclock the cpu of the HD as it was possible on old HTC devices with omap processors?
i often found the HD to be very slow and i would like some more speed 9as probably most of us)
would it be adviseble to overclock it?

i did some research in to the matter, and there are some things that can be changed but i believe its just timeings, at the moment it would appear that you can not adjust the clock speed its self.
Also, changing the timings seemed to have a negative affect on stability, id imagin that whilst the clock speed may be running low, the timings are about as tight as you can get.

can you point it for us? any details about it? would it be dangerous for HD integrity?

just installed it, then bells rang..... ur processor is not supported, looked rubbishw when the app loaded up. all distored, defiantely not meant for our wvga. Soooooo whats this qualcom overclocking software... i will explore google see what i can find.....

id give up, i searched for ages to no avail, i believe the only thing that can we tweaked are various timings but it seems that almost any attempt improve these results in instability and crashing.

I'm not really interested in overclocking, but I saw this thread and remembered I saw somewhere else some info on this subject.

This won't work - the Touch HD has a Qualcomm processor NOT an OMAP

well, i've saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507798&highlight=overclock , but you guys read carefully, its apeears to be no effect, through if it has, every processor u overclock have its life shortened...i've a blue angel, 400 mhz working at a 200~530, xscale processor can do this (change it's frequency accordinto to the necessary) but i wond the Qualcomm ones do the same (according to the post appears to not, but it's no cleary).

i think most if not all winmo is slow but i love it still lol

CPU Throttling

Hi Gang!
I started my HTC journey with the original Touch which at the time was an unbelievable device.
I used to have a CPU throttling utility that would underclock the CPU to bare minimum when not in use and would overclock it under heavy usage.
The result was better performance and lower battery consumption.
Does such a software exist for our HD2? Or maybe it's already doing that throttling natively?

If this is available i would like to have this application as well. It would be nice for the small battery pack.
BTW, would they release a new battery with a higher volt/wattage?

Idk if Toshiba has it, but still i would go for the HTC HD2 because this device is magnificent. It has it all and you can do with it all. If I didn't got a girlfriend I would do the other stuff with it to hahaa

Well, I'm not here to discuss HD2 shortcomings, although there are always things to improve with *any* things.
Anyways...
I have looked at CPU throttling utilities for the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and it appears indeed that the Toshiba TG01 has such utility. It's not clear at this point if it's an OS-level utility and it seems that it needs to be manually set.
I'm new at xda so I'm not sure whether somebody could port that app for our HD2 and automate the throttling...?
I guess if we're able to develop a HSPL for the HD2 then this is doable as well... provided that there is enough interest in it.

Yea, I guess it might not support 1GHz... But it is intended for only underclocking, not overclocking....
Idk, it'd be interesting to try.
