Sounds strange. I have tried TomTom 7 and iGO8 and both of them works fine. When I'm in my house i cannot find a GPS signal. But then when i go outside (and in a car) the signal works fine.
Are you sure there isn't any disturbances in your area? The Diamond GPS works fine - i have driven a distance of 200 miles without the GPS falling off.
But the GPS sometimes has problems to connect in some areas. So Try do drive a little bit around - and don't just test it at your home (if thats what you've done.)
And remember to update the program "Fast GPS".
/Brunkage

arr ok ill try it tommorow when i drive to preston and im also going to search for GPS before i get in my car and see if that helps.
I am running origional ROM though so could this be the reason?

On TheTouchBlog.com Ive seen a Juicys ROM for the Diamond review, where Google Maps are installed and he got signal from 7 satelites in a basement of a house. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??

Have you installed IP Phone ?
Look for another version then it works, I don'r find the link at the moment but I had same problem.

yea, did some proper testing today and its ok if i find the satalites before i get in my car worked fine all day so im happy.
Once again the Diamond prevails!!!

I have same problem, where can i find IP phone, and how will that help/ THANKS

AMEO GPS Settings

Hi,
I can get my AMEO working great with TOMTOM as it recognises the "Built In GPS" device, but other applications like Virtual Earth require a COM port.
Does anyone know how to get round this problem?
TIA
Try COM4, or changing the settings in the GPS option from the settings page.
Might not work with TomTom running, as TT has a habit of locking the GPS port.
yep,
COM4 it was. Thanks.
Shame we can't use the ameo as a normal phone. Big drawback as I don't want everyone hearing my calls
Using the Ameo as a normal phone
Im the same, i still went ahead and got an ameo tho. Been looking at this which looks like it will solve the problem of other people hearing your conversations
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297861
Ive ordered one from eBay and await delivery. The thread ive posted above explains alot about it so pursuaded me to take the plunge!
Hope this helps!

I could have given mine to you for half price! I don,t reccommend it to any one unless they have memorised their phone book.

Got one already, and actually made my comment already in the linked thread. I prefer the Jabra ...8010 I even bought before the LG arrived
Speaking of GPS issues...
Ive been trying to get Google Maps for PocketPC to work with the Ameo built in GPS, it wont.
I have GPSTuner, and if I turn off the windows thing that manages your GPS for you then GPSTuner connects and works on Com5 9600bps ok.
I close that, totally quit out of it and make sure its not using the com port.
I run Google maps, try to track via GPS and it says the GPS receiver is not responding!
I turn on the windows GPS manager, tell it the hardware is on Com5 at 9600 and the software port should be Com4.
Now GPSTuner crashes (I did set it to try com4 first). It locks up the phone and I have to reset.
Google Maps still doesnt find anything.
Help?
I can only confirm the GPS-Tuner thing. I've got the same problem. I didn't even try Google Maps.

How slow is tomtom navigator 6 on the mda

I am wondering if it is a decent solution for satnav or if i need to front over for the full gps unit.
I am concerned that on either the dash or the mda it will be too slow.
Anyone using it? I dl a er.. trial version but it won't load without a gps locator installed - so i can't demo it. I don't like using cracked software, but i really don't want to shell out 300 for all of this just to find out it's barely usable and for 100 more i could get a 910.
Its fine on teh Wiz. There are versions that work on the Dash, but its much more of a PITA.
I use tomtom on my phone and i find that it is not so slow!!! Some times it is due to the gps unit i find! If it is not clear skies it take a little long to update on the phone, but i dont misses roads so that is the main thing i guess.
Yeah TomTom 6 works awesome on my MDA. Highly recommend.

best gps software and bt gps receiver...

Hey guys,
I want to buy some gps software for my dopod 838pro and a bluetooth gps receiver. I was wondering what ones work best with your hermes devices and what problems arise when using them.
I was looking at the papago software and it seems pretty good. If there is anyone here using it I would like to know your feedback on how it performs and also what kind of gps reciever you are using.
Thanks for your time and input
oh I am also in Australia..I don't know if that makes much difference or not
Cheers
I suggest IBlue 737 with the latest MTK chipset, it has nice auto on/off feature an 25 hours of battery life. another more expensive option is the Garmin Gps10X (the new Sirf3 model only, the old one is crap)
Software that i use:
Garmin Que + Franson GPSGate
OZI Explorer
IGO
TomTom
sorry to threadjack.
but regarding the IBlue 737, will it or does it need anything else other then my 8525 to work?
I have google maps on the 8525. will it work with that alone or do I have to add something else?
Once again sorry to threadjack but I think it fits into the OP's questions.
if needed delete this and I'll make a new thread.
google map is good with any GPS. (just nmake sure you have unlimited data) else it could be expensive.
ive used iGuidance 4 and iGO my way plus 2006 with BT-Q818
GUI:
iGO rocks.. smooth.. and really nice...
iGuidance .. just plain and dull.. gps tracking not smooth as iGO is.
what i really like about iGuidance though is the TTS feature, and it tells you which side the destination is.. iGO does not..
if the features i liked in iGuidance would just be integrated in iGO, ill get it in a heartbeat.
Fantastic!
and yes I have the unlimited data plan, had it for a long time. I used to have a smt 5600 before the 8525.
one more question... will it also work with the yahoo go 2.0?
thanks guys, one more thing to spend money on
yes, it will work with yahoo go 2.0. i use one myself(live in UK). make sure u have a data package though.(unlimited would be the best). i use t-mobile wnw £7.50 and a BT gps.its amazing what you can do with this phone.i love it
The thread jacking is ok its all relevant
So any other suggestions with people who have the papago software at all?
And does anyone have any other gps receivers?
Cheers
My favorite GPS sw is TomTom, great features, easy to use and no bugs. I use it with a earthmate bt-20. Takes up 1gb of space but worth it. Tomtom automatically connects to my BT receiver, responds quickly and has nice smooth 3d graphics.
My next favorite is MSN streets. It is easy to use and has the most up to date maps of my area.
I really dont care for Google maps unless I'm in a G network. If you dont have internet reception which is often the case when you travel then Google maps is completely useless.
The Earthmate BT-20 receiver seems to work ok but it is the only one I have tried. Its a ugly yellow, blue, and black 2"x3.5" plastic box. I look forward to the day when GPS is built in.
im in aussie town too, tomtom 6 (soon 7) on the hermes with some bluetooth gps that i got off ebay works wonders.
also has no issues running on prophet (my wifes phone) and my now retired magician.
microsoft streets was good when running in offline mode however it looks like they dont support australia anymore with the only map set available being a few years old.
Thanks guys for the advice
Seems like tomtom might be the go..its what I've been hearing as being the best out there.
I think I will just get a gps receiver off ebay too
Cheers
I might as well throw in my .02 as well hehe
I'm in Australia and using Tomtom 6 with a Globalsat BT receiver and it works perfectly
Good luck with your decision

i have the garmin GPS 10x and i get a weird error - ive only had it a week, long story short sometimes it wont turn on. --- how do you tell which model you have?
when it works, its awesome. tells you which turns to make, has a "recalculate" feature, good maps with a lot of detail
how do you connect it to google maps? i did it one time but haven't been able to do it since! would like to run it simulatneous with garmin XT the software that comes with it, google in satellite mode so you see from the sky where you travel to and hear from the garmin software which way to turn, would be pretty neat
i get confused which settings need to be put to which com port? i tried to add it in blue tooth and set up COM port 0 in there, and then go intot he GPS external setting (WM6) and set up both hardware and program port to 0 as well. cant get it to work alongside garmin XT software
Microsoft was offering a BT Pharos GPS for about $70 for PocketPC devices awhile back, not sure if they still are.
I got one and it works very well. The only difference between this and the typical Pharos offering is that it doesn't come with any software. Using it with Livesearch works perfectly -- the only thing Livesearch is lacking is vocal turn-by-turn directions and automatic trip recalculation. But of course you're not limited to just using livesearch with the GPS anyway.
Looks like it is still available:
http://www.amazon.com/Pharos-Blueto...6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187064734&sr=8-3
Nokia Smart2GO.. It's tomtom but for free worldwide. (with some very minor limits/payable extras)
Have a search for the word nokia and posts by me and youll find some info about it in one of the hundreds of other gps threads around the hermes
thank you for your info. I am thinking of getting a bt gps receiver with software
my favourite is Navigon (you can tinker soo nicely with all the settings 'under the hood' ).
Dunno whether Navigon has a AU map at all, but they sell under a different name in the USA.
I would recommend any sirfIII GPS antenna with a good review in one of the navigation fora. I am using a cheap Mainnav that is OK.(great reception even behind metal coated car windows)
Wait for a Natural Disaster!!
I use TomTom 6 with a Nokia Bluetooth GPS reciever.. i got it for 29.99 from Fry's!!!
I live in central texas and when Katrina was on its way to New Orleans fries had CRAZY discounts on GPS units, Maglites, Waterproof cases for pdas.. basicly almost anything that can be used for "survival" so i grabbed a bunch of other stuff... now that Hurricane Dean is on its way i'm pretty sure they'll have discounts again... Time to hit up Fry's!!
lol its "natural disaster" sales at frys...for every hurricane that comes along we drop the prices by 20%
Cheers

TomTom 7 is always about 200 meters behind my actual position

Hi there,
i am running tt7 on my Asus P535 with WM 6.
I have this problem:
TomTom is always about 200 meters behind my actual position. I think this is so because of an not well resolution. Only if I drive very slow (about 30 km/h) tomtom shows my position correct.
I tried all versions. Repack 3 qvga, qvga... 7.450,.. 7.541...but each version came up with the same result.
Is there a possibility to stop this annoying lag ? Or do I have to cope with it. Did anyone else notice this , also?
With TT 6 (6.032) this problem never appeared.
If you're using a bluetooth reciever it sounds like it hasn't got many channels. More channels better reception - more accurate.
If the phone has gps built in then check the position of the phone in the car. It needs a clear signal to work properly. under the windscreen is best, not on the seat beside you.
Otherwise it sounds like memory problem. Other apps using ram and limiting how much the gps program can use. though most of the time when I had that problem it just kept jumping all over the place.
You have to slow down, you're driving too fast
You can also try turning off points of interest and any info you don't need. Even street names can make it laggy.

I don't think it's Tomtom's versions problem... it's the GPS signals likely
If you don't get a good signals or number of Sats yo will be far from your real position.
Consider if there are alot of obstacles which would cause or interfere with the signals:
- Tall buidlings, trees, objects
- under ground car park, buidling
- Metals (depends)
- Raining and not clear sky
- Other devices or in a high EM
- GPS chips got faulty
- Firmware or memory that store calculate functions got problem
- Not enough numbers of Sats
- ...
Hi again,
I don't think it is an GPS Problem.
I have an built-in- GPS- Receiver and I get between 6-11 Satellites.
Another user (he has the Diamond) had this problem, also. But he took the wrong tt7- Version. After using the right one everything was okay.
But it also might be the processor of my P535 ? Might that also be possible?
oh, I got about 18- 20 MB of RAM free

Have you tried using iGo or other GPS apps and experienced similar lag ?
Even on my old Wizard TomTom7 runs without problems.
Have you tried it in another car, or outside your car? Maybe your front window has a special alloy to prevent sun emission. Know this problem of some of my friends, they have had this problem (Mostly on new VW,Audi,BMW i know this problem, maybe other cras have something similar).
Hello,
I tried many other GPS-Systems. Navigon, IGO, MIO,Garmin, tt 6. But this 100-200 m lag appears only with tt 7. And this was all in the same car.
I have no ideas anymore what this might cause this.
I know, my P 535 is not the latest one but it still has got a 520MHz Intel Xscale..
It is not the map, also. I tried 3 different tt 7 maps already..

I dont think changing car will make any difference . I used tt7 on p535 without any problem at all. but i like igo or garmin more
Do you have other GPS software like CheckPoint 3.0 ? Because Checkpoint failed to run correctly with my TomTom7 and Cruise.
Hello
I have the same problem with my nex Tomtom V7. i've got a Samsung Omnia
First I try it in walk, and my position is not correct
I try many times in a car and my position is not as exact than Tomtom V6
Well, weirred.
Maybe it is the ROM then.
I am still using WM 6 [CE OS 5.2.1236 (Build 17741.0.2.1) and not "WM6.1_20748.1.4.0" ROM.
Another user just jold me that with his PPC (ASUS 636N) the same error occured.

As was mentioned above by snachez, I believe it's the amount of poi's you have showing on the screen while driving. I had the same problem with about 20 poi's showing. When I turned it down to about 4 poi's, the problem went away, and now it's SMOOTH as silk.
Hope this helps!
Sorry to chip in here. Seems like you all here uses GPS. I just bought a new PDA. MWg Zinc II with built in GPS. As I am living in Singapore, I would like to know is it possible to obtain igo Singapore map for free? GPS maps are very expensive and I would like to know where can I download it and use it as a full version without paying.

Hope I Helped you.

Yami
Try searching on here for GPS Test, it will scan all available ports and report back exactly what settings your GPS is using. Plug these into TomTom and all should be good to go.
