ad-block is a well know feature on browsers, which can avoid downloading contents (e.g. ad) with a set of rules.
Now I discovered the Opera mobile does provide ad-block feature (named content blocker, same as that on desktop)!
To proceed, download the following preference file,
http://adnsto.net/other/urlfilter.ini
and paste to your diamond's Windows\Opera9\ directory
An ad blocked example:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Someone may have discovered it, but haven't found such threads in this forum, so I just share my thoughts.
p.s. Have a look at the opera:config on opera mobile, you may found even more useful hidden features inherited from desktop browser! (e.g. user's javascript/css, changing skin etc)
wow, another piss off solved! i was looking for this. thx alot!
Great!!! i was looking for it!!!
A quick question:
can we add filters from Opera? maybe we have to add them manually into the ini file...

The file is exactly that from Opera desktop browser. You can do filters configuration first on desktop browser, and copy the urlfilter.ini to your diamond.

aha, ok
thank you!
I've attached a much bigger list to this post
But still it's not up to date ...
If you want to create your own & get the latest blacklists, check for example :
http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/index.dml/tag/urlfilter.ini
Does someone tried to measure the downsides of a bigger blacklist file ?
I mean : it must use more cpu & memory => less battery ?
question is : how much ?
a big urlfilter.ini would slow down Opera boot time and loading of sites!
I think all the banner ads / animated ads & etc on some pages will use more cpu / battery than a large urlfilter would...

i think its more about surfing the web faster while ur browser wont download these ads
Maybe somebody could create a simple ad-block app that checks for updated urlfilter and automatically downloads/installs it to the correct opera folder.
This could be a standalone app you could run manually now & then to update opera ad-blocking...
I guess an app like this wouldn't be too hard to create for a developer???
that would be great

Opera 9.5 Beta has caused A LOT of small problems on my Titan/Mogul. It's logo has replaced many of my other application's logos, and has also changed many of the file associations to Opera. Most of which make no sense... [Ex.) .mp3, .avi & .doc are now associated with Opera] The most annoying thing is that, until I deleted it, my Video Sties (FlashVideoBundle) icon changed to the Opera Icon as well, and would only open in Opera.
Okay, so I found the FINAL Opera 9.5 Beta file and got rid of it. However, my FlashVideoBundle is still not working correctly. As you can see, it is repped as just a file, when it should have the PIE Logo in the corner of the little page icon. You can see in the 2nd picture the message I get when I tap on Video Sites... Any ideas AT ALL?! I would really like my Video SItes to open using PIE again. It's just so much easier, ya know?!
Thanks in advance...

in the hacking section there is a program by schapps tht will allow you to redo file associations. give it a try see if that helps. also where di youfid the final version of opera, as i only found 9.33
How the hell do I even uninstall the application --
It's getting me frustrated because theres no uninstall option and I know for a fact I installed it onto the memory card but I see folders that were installed onto the devices memory.
just goto the properties of .html .xml and all other files that you see th O in and change the association to PIE in the \windows directory....
thats all i did for mine and all is well again...
Looks like we may be sticking with Opera Mini 4 & NetFront 3.5 for a bit longer...

Try this out.
Opera 9.5 really screwed me up too. File Asspciations
Same issue, I'm trying to revert my default browser to Pocket IE so I can use the FlashVideo cab after the Opera 9.5 beta took association.
I used the File Association tool and that worked to revert the Video Sites Icon to a Internet explorer icon from an Opera Icon and it launches PIE now, but now when I launch the Video Sites Icon the address bar reads:
http://"/Storage%20Card/Program%20Files/TCPMP/sites/videosites.htm"
And PIE shows:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Client sent a malformed Host header
I know this is because the file association now wants to open this as a web site and not a local file, but I don't know where to go to set it back the way it was.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance all

I will have a look at doing that. Leave it with me.
Any way that we could use our own icons?
yeah using own icons is what id like to do as well
or a way to add a link and have it recognize the pages icon automatically?
Nice idea. RocketShotz has something similar to this:

NEW FEATURE: User image support
As well as hosting icons on your own site, I would encourage you to contribute icons for the default iconset. In either case, please get the template here:
http://tinyhomepage.com/ContributeIcon.aspx
ALSO ADDED:
Default icons for: ESPN, Wikipedia Mobile, USA Today Mobile, PinStack and Google Search/Mail/Reader Mobile

I'm not sure what you mean here. Could you explain?
well like in firefox or IE at the address bar there is the symbol to the left
and in favorites it is there as well and it just finds it without any user actions you know?
I believe he means having the web app automatically grab web page icons and use them instead. Good idea, but unfortunately web page icons aren't the same dimensions.
I think this web app is a novel idea, but I find some of the icons rather ambiguous. The icons do have alternate text seen by hovering the cursor over them, but that doesn't help much when it cannot easily be seen on a Windows Mobile device, or any other mobile device for that matter. Perhaps you could allow up to ten characters of text underneath each icon.
Thank you! Thats great!
Can anyone teach me how to remove my internet browser to the default opera browser and the default browser program to launch when I tab on the screen. Thanks

In my case it is the contrary, by seeking even more than I have not found an effective method to eliminate Opera is , I do not like and I would leave IE as the default in the system.
Is there any way to completely remove the Opera?.
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

After going to opera:config, scroll down to "Install" and click on it, then check the box for "Browser First Time Launch", then click save. There should be a popup "Settings saved".
Close Opera.
I have the same question.
I would like (yes, it sounds strange... ;-) to have Internet Explorer as the default browser and not Opera. For some technical reasons, I like Opera, but still need IE as default browser on the Touch HD. Both for all htm(l) filetypes as also for default browser...
Thanks for the help...
I have a few software that keeps opening links to IE, is there anyway of making them point to opera, IE would display the page as codes while I wanted it to actually download the page. The software in question is I-nigma, excellent 2D barcode reader and microsoft tag reader another barcode reader.
hello,
with this JavaScript plugin you can get Youtube direct download links for the page you're currently viewed.
Installation:
1. Only work with opera Mobile (desktop too), tested with Opera WM version 9.7, 10 and Opera Symbian version 11.1
2. For connection Do not use opera Turbo or proxy
3. save .js file below to your phone
4. Enable your Opera UserJS with:
- goto Preferences Editor by typing opera:config in address bar
- filter (Quick Find) your Preferences with "javascript"
- check "Always Load User JavaScript" and "User JavaScript" and point "User JavaScript File" to folder where you save the .js file.

6. visit youtube with opera mobile as desktop version and you will see download links like below
Great script.
Thanks.
Suggestion, can you alter script to have ability to select if user wants to download or view movie (for example in coreplayer)...
Connect with this guy

Keep the great work, cheers....
Great app! Will test asap
Yeah, good job. Works flawlessly on my phone (Xperia X1, WM 6.1) with Opera Mobile 10.
Amazing work buddy. Works perfectly on Opera Mobile 10 on TG01. I saved the file to my Opera Mobile 10 folder in Program Files.
Always wondered what opera:config was all about. Know of a way to enable word prediction in Opera? Only seemed to work in older versions of Opera.

Best tool ever!
Also, another one is QTTabBar, for me even better solution tha Clover because of more customization options and possibility to skin its interface.
Here is my example:
Why is such a great tool not implementd in windows by default? :laugh:
I dont like the look of QTab so much, but again, useful tool.
You used to be able to browser files on your hard disk from internet explorer including tabbed browsing, but alas IE10 on windows 8 if you type C:\ into the URI bar just opens a new explorer window. It was also a rather poor file manager at that.
Chrome still does it but is even worse at it

Wow didnt know that
Konqueror (part of KDE, typically used on Linux or Unix but there's a Windows port too) is a combo file manager / web browser with tabs and such. http://windows.kde.org.
I have considered trying to port it to RT, but there's so many other demands on my dev time right now...
Its a really handy and good app.....now I know the use of reading forums
