XPERIA X1 coming in Sept. to select regions - XPERIA X1 General

Saw this article on gsmarena.com, check it out!!
Now if I could only get some official word about AT&T picking it up.

I too am hoping for AT&T to announce something. I just hope the whole iPhone debate doesn't prevent them from picking it up.
I like Apple, but they REALLY like to control things. And with the TouchPro going to Sprint, I would almost wonder if T-Mo might jump in for the X1.
Just a thought.

i doubt t-mo will do that, they are always the last in everything

HTC to USA : No 3G Touch HD for you

Not fair!
"HTC made a confirmation on their Twitter page that there are no plans to bring a 3G Touch HD to the US. "
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7689.html
Those filthy mothers! I goddamn It!!! its because they hate us! And now I hate them... But i will still buy there products. Ok so i'm hypocrite but Its the lesser of the 2 evils (apple) The HD would cripple there competition.
{Bitter as ****!}
It'll happen eventually, I'm calling BS on them turning down a giant US market with an iPhone killer in their hands.
http://twitter.com/htc
Is where they say that there is no plans to release the HD on US soil.
And the final nail in the coffin: http://twitter.com/htc/statuses/948774282

Wow... I'm shocked. This phone that half the forum was ready to jump on, the iPhone killer, best PPC phone made to date as some have called it... And they don't bring it to the US. I'm still skeptical, I think they may change their minds.
Well, they did get FCC approval for the EU version that doesn't support US 3G frequencies, so who knows...
does someone wanna let me live in europe with them?
ill ask my aunt.
I don't use usa 3G anyhow, since t-mobile only recently got it going with the Android. So, I'll happily use EDGE with this masterpiece when I get the pre-ordered unlocked european version!
Someday there will be a usa 3G version, but most likely for the at&t bandwidth....
that's wack i think they are missing out on a very big market i don't see why it can't be relased in the States this is probably the best competitor to the Iphone
Maybe they realized they need to stop being retards with pressure sensitive screens and they'll bring one to us in the US with a capacitive screen.

Well, we're getting there with the Diamond and Raphael having capacitive button areas. Now if they'd just do it for the entire screen, that would be something else. Not sure how WinMo 6 would handle it, though. Maybe we have to wait for 7 to see that functionality... I hope they mention something about it at the PDC. Can't wait to go there
This is terrible news I suppose HTC decided it wouldn't be worth producing a US version of the phone as sales wouldn't generate enough revenue. I guess they don't think they can compete with Apple's marketing power/magic/overhyped iPhone
I am very disappointed, I actually feel lost and confused. This was the phone I was going to ditch my iphone for. I could always get the Fuze now but was so disappointed with my Diamond I just don't see how the Fuze will live up to my expectations.
Maybe the X1 or Omnia will be my next phone.
From wmpoweruser.com, find below 3 speculations on why HTC may have decided to do this:
1) AT&T demanded that the HD stay out of USA, to prevent any competition with the iPhone 3G. In return they would carry the much delayed AT&T Fuze. This is supported by the absense of the HTC Touch Diamond on AT&T, indicating they do not welcome good competition to their favourite phone.
2) HTC did not want to draw attention from their new G1 android phone, and therefore decided not to release in USA.
3) HTC thinks the investment would be wasted, due to the local dominance of the iPhone in USA, unlike in Europe, where the seemed to have accelerated its release.
I'm going with reason #1. Apple and AT&T are the devil and the devil's spawn, respectively.
Looks like XDA-Developers is going to have to start calling on some HARDWARE EXPERTS!! Swap out the radios perhaps???
Very disappointing news, but hopefully this just means that we'll get something even better when the Touch HD II is born!

This is why I'll never be an iPhone user
g1 sales?
If they said the t-HD was coming in march they would kill half the g1 sales, I figure as soon as the hype for the g1 is over there will magically be an t-HD for USA. I am waiting for a t-HD pro w/ keyboard. I got the g1 to play with/take apart until then.
Looks like i made a good gamble... i gave up on the fuze and speculated the HD would be months out and got a US Diamond 2 weeks ago.
Looks like i will be using the diamond a lot longer than i thought. Love the phone.
1) I think AT&T is mostly responsible, since they would probably just delay the HD until mid way through next year. And who would want it then if HTC reveals a new and better device? Besides, AT&T probably doesn't want an iPhone-killer that is going to kill its iPhone.
2) Tmo and Google could also be responsible. Judging from how well G1 sales have been going, Tmo might want to get its hands on a second Android device to hit two price-points: one all-around "good" device with keyboard at $179 (the G1), and another high-design iPhone-killer at ~$299. So who knows, maybe HTC/Tmo/Google killed the HD in order to resurrect it as an Android device. After all, there has been no shortage of "Android on HD" comments everywhere, and Tmo actually keeps track of the blogosphere.

If you bought a Nexus One and are on AT&T DONT LOOK HERE!

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/29/nexus-one-for-atandts-3g-bands-likely-in-the-works/
Personally I would be very mad right now if I bought a Nexus One on AT&T.
I wouldn't want it on at&t anyways, service isn't like it used to be. . .
Plus T-Mobile is gonna have way better phones than at&t soon enough.
What strikes it weird to me is why isn't AT&T listed as "coming soon" like Verizon etc...If in fact they were coming to them wouldn't they have list it
I switched from AT&T to T-mobile specifically because AT&T was too late getting on the Android bandwagon. Just because they are reacting at the late point in the race doesn't mean I regret my switch or that I wish I would have stayed to begin with... I'm getting better prices at T-mobile anyway
naa, if att gets it, I'd just sell mine and buy another.

Read the article again, it never says it's coming to AT&T, just that it's getting support for the AT&T 3G bands. This is most likely a version for a future Canadian carrier.

Indeed, perhaps it will be coming to Rogers, or the new Telus network. Doesn't mean you won't be able to get an unsubsidized version for use on AT&T though...
I am getting an N1 myself, but plan to only use on AT&T for a few days; too many dropped calls on this network. TMO may not necessarily have the coverage, but if you have a signal, at least you can rely on it.
I'm not really upset about this either. I was willing to switch back to T Mobile for this phone, but it would have meant two ETF's for me. Now I can just flip this one for a profit to an international buyer on eBay, save myself the ETF's, and not have to go through the hastle of switching.

mad at who ? att ? google ? htc ? yourself ?
when you buy something, it is yours. the product, not future products, not future hardware changes, not replacements if/when you break it.
i really don't understand people that feel wronged when a new product is released.
maybe it's "early adopter syndrome" or something ?

Well, I'm glad I found out about this right now; just called HTC to return my phone since I'm definitely willing to wait it out for an ATT 3G version (the network is pretty solid in Philly for me).

Just saying hello to my new home.

I'm definitely 100% getting this phone when it comes out. Perfect timing too, as I get my upgrade in May.
Will you guys be buying this phone?
Best believe I will be getting this! And my upgrade isnt gonna be till oct but I am just gonna buy it or get it for the bday
i voted "i want to but dont have sprint". I have verizon but would definately switch for sprints fairer plans and this beast phone. but i dont think i have ANY sprint coverage in my area. I checked to see how many sprint stores i have in my area and in a 50 mile radius there were only 2!! all other carriers had over 10!! i also dont know anyone with sprint. could anyone tell me how i could get a complete view of how much coverage certain carriers do have in comparison?? i go to there sites but it just seems incomplete
I will be getting this phone for sure! This will be the best phone hands down.
I don't know if I will be getting it the first day out of the gate but I know that I will purchase it shortly after it has been release. I currently have the HTC Vogue and would love to have a larger screen and the flexibility of Android now.
I love how amped so many people are over this phone. I cant wait til release day
I'm going to be all over this the day it comes out! or soon there after. I can't wait to ditch my TP. I'll miss winmo but I won't miss the 2.8" screen or the ancient 528mz processor.
this will without question be replacing my creaky old kaiser with ATT. im looking forward to everything about it and sprints plan pricing.
Will sure get a Supersonic or Desire, haven't fully decided yet!
I think, I'll be taking that day off
After 6 years of being a Cingular/AT&T customer, I am switching to Sprint just for this phone.
if/when there is a gsm version i will get it for sure
but for now i wait...
I've been with AT&T for eight years, and I'm planning on switching to Sprint when this phone comes out. Currently I have a Nokia N97. No Comment........
Been with sprint for...awhile...and I'm sitting on my upgrade for this. I need to get rid of this horrid TP (RAPH800).

[POLL] Sprint Feb Announcement

What's your gut feel?
All of the poll options seem extremely relevant.
SVDO - Technically the HTC Thunderbird (Verizon EVO) is going to support this, at least that's what leaked documents propose. It'd make sense for Sprint to launch something similar.
Nationwide 4G coverage - It's really starting to pick up, they just lit up 4g in my area and i've heard a lot of reports of new 4g locations going in all over the country
CMDA iPhone - You have to admit that the technology is there, all it would take is an agreement with Apple and Sprint could support the iPhone just as well as Verizon. I find this one to be the least likely, although possible
Dual core phones - I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed that ATT / Verizon stole the show and Sprint had no new phone announcements at CES... It seems likely that they'd try and sign on with a handset manufacturer to get some competition going for ATT / Verizon and their Tegra handsets.
Wow, none of those options are "industry firsts"... good job!
Add a 3D display phone option and I'll vote.
wow and not a one cept the 3d phone is anything android related. people need to get it through there head the announcement will have something to do with android phone/tablet with the blogs getting invites.
if iphone is announced then it will deff NOT be the only announcement, though the likelyhood they even announce it to begin with is very low with having android blogs there.
Funny. I already started a poll like this haha.

You really think Sprint is going to launch and industry first with their announcement?
Nationwide 4g coverage actually would be an industry first..... and technically Verizon hasn't gone public about SVDO... so that'd be an industry first for the US too
.... you guys really think a 3d phone is going to appealing? I think this 3d stuff is blown way out of proportion. I've seen it, used it.... its not really that impressive.
ive been messing with my companies sprint rep trying to see if she would tell me anything about the annoucment and she wouldnt tell me anything other then "its a device..."
cause 3d is gay, and would be an epic fail. Enjoy ****ing up your eyes watching a 3d screen 24/7

Don't Get the Hype Or Complaints About The Kyocera

So, Based on what I'm noticing, people were expecting a dual core evo 2 for sprints big announcement and instead of was a dual screen kyocera. So whats all this crap about jumping ship to verizon?
You must have not read. Ask yourself this:
Who is Kyocera?
What are they known for?
Why Kyocera?
Why is the phone ugly?
Why are they releasing an already outdated phone when dual cores and other sick hardware is coming out?

Maybe if the echo was the only phone to be released in 2011, id be looking at other carriers.
I think the fact that Sprint called this an "industry first" and generated a huge event/hype has caused many to lose faith in Sprint's choices.
Is it worth leaving over..of course not, but many of us feel embarrassed for a company we have been avidly supporting.
If they had just released this device without claiming it is the "latest and greatest" it would have been different.

All you FANBOIFAGS that are crying about sprint's big announcement NOT being the EVO2 are just crying to make yourselves look important and special.
EVERY company has facepalms, and crying about it and saying your leaving said company because of 1 announcement is just proof that you didn't even want to be with the company to begin with and are using the announcement as a scapegoat

If I'm not mistaken, we have the right to have an opinion and a choice to choose what carrier we want to be with. If another company has better service/phones/etc. I think most of us would want to have the best. Big fail for Sprint.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying it was a big let down for many of us. I am not going to be switching just because of that or for any reason. Just saying everyone has a right to their opinion and its nuts when people start bashing. And just because people are leaving for Verizon doesn't mean they are going for the iPhone.
The evo is the best phone on the market right now and Sprint did the best thing they could do when they dropped the everything plan. Now all these other carriers want to bite off there plate. That is my opinion Sprint want come out with a evo2 until around summer they know what they are doing.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The Echo hasn't made me want to switch.. yet; but it's preparing me to.
The EVO is a well featured phone but the CPU/GPU is severely lacking. As a tech head there's no way I can make it through another year with this phone. Right now I can see 1-2 high end WP7 phones and probably another WebOS phone being released in the Spring/Summer. With the amount of hype that Sprint put into this phone I wouldn't be surprised that Sprint thought this was their next EVO. Part of me doesn't want to believe that a major company could be this out of touch, but claiming an industry first and bringing out David Blane leaves me with no other explanation: Sprint is retarded.
So you have at least the Touch Pro 7 (which admittedly looks awesome but it's too early for me to adopt WP7), the Echo (Hell no), and maybe a new WebOS phone (hmm.. maybe, but I depend on Google Apps too heavily) coming out. How many very high end smartphones ($199+) does Sprint come out with a year? Seems to me like Sprint could be more than meeting their usual first half quota with those phones.
I'll wait until June and if nothing interesting comes out, the lack of great Android phones, absolutely horrendous 3G speeds, and decreasing of benefits will probably push me to Verizon. I'd just roam the F out of my phone while downloading Ubuntu over and over again. I carry a iPhone (personal) and Android (business) phones anyway, might as well family up at Verizon.
Bottom line is, I'll follow the development community's lead. That will be my next phone.

or could it be many people are getting frustrated with sprint, ok now every phone is going to have 10 dollar add on, yearly upgrades are now gone for alot of people(its the only reason why me and my girl have a joint plan with sprint) the 4g we have well its not that great coverage wise, also to point their handling of what the 10 dollar add on at first was needed for is a face palm.
Then to not show nothing off at CES but have their name as a sponsor everywhere their only to hold an event as industry first, to show off entry level smart phone.
Im not leaving sprint for this I am however this summer when my contract is up this spring
Not really understanding the name calling. If you appreciate having your telco telling you to grab your ankles then by all means.

Just FYI, if you haven't heard or been living under a rock.....Just go look at what the other carriers are making you do that is far worse than grabbing your ankles. They are just trying to mask it by throwing a few nice phones out there, but that in no way covers up the fact they are continiously raising prices, getting rid of upgrades altogether and now even charging for things that are free on sprint. So its not like sprint is actually doing anything that isn't already being done.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed at the announcement. But, to be honest, Sprint did state whatever they were going to announce would be an "industry first" - and it was. Would I have booked David Blaine to do it? Hell no.
The HYPE, though, was actually generated by all the media coverage speculating as to what the announcement would be and ALL OF US here and on other forums starting ENDLESS threads about Sprint's announcement, hoping that Sprint would have a killer nuke to kill all the hoopla from the Verizon IPhone and Verizon 4G launch. And this obviously wasn't it.
We do still have CTIA coming up and Sprint has said that they plan to release more 4G devices this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they have something more.
As for the Echo, I'm going to reserve my comments as to what it is or isn't until I get my hands on one.
I do hope that Sprint pulls through and makes some better choices.

I think if the Echo had a dual core, top line graphics chip, plenty of ram, and mention of getting 2.4 on it peeps would be very positive about the announcement. For me it was not the design or manufacturer, but the hardware specs that make it weak. I for sure can think of ways that having 2 screens would be beneficial.
I'm not leaving Sprint over it but I was pretty disappointed by the announcement. There is no tech geek alive that is looking forward to that abomination of a phone. I don't know WHO sprint is marketing this phone for. Business people won't want it, tech geeks won't want it, teens won't want it, and I think the only people who WOULD get it are the people dumb enough to get suckered into it by a Sprint CSR or store rep.
I am a Sprint customer for the awesome value, not because they don't live up to my expectations for a phone on a specific announcement date. People who are considering jumping ship because of this debacle really need to reevaluate their priorities in life.
