GPS Software with your Navigation system - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Is there some way we can use a regular GPS turn by turn system that takes a SDisk and put some type of program on it to actually use your GPS as a tracker or find location of your car? And the reason this has to do with Diamond is because I would need to be able to see it on my diamond...
Reason why I am asking this? My whip was stolen two days ago and I just "talked" the f***** who stole it into returning it, with a brand new pair of 22s, and best part of all he was begging me to take the rims...
and if this isnt the case, how can I use my GPS with my IPhone, as see where my phone is if lost, from my iphone, and vice versa...

Is there Soft GPS on MDA

Hi,
Have a T-Mobile MDA/HTC Wizard.
Is there some GPS software which can connect via Wifi/T-Zones or Internet and do the same routing/function such as a GPS Device?
I dont want to spend $600 to buy a GPS device and then connect it to my MDA. Rather buy some GPS software which can work on the MDA by itself.
Thanks.

No GPS software is going to work properly without a GPS receiver from which to extrapolate your current position.
If you want GPS capability of any kind at all, you will need to get a receiver, period. There's nothing GPS related on the phone except for a settings applet that is disabled by default and only lets you set the port of a bonded receiver. There's also no way a network connection is going to be able to determine your position and software that attempts to do so using cell towers are only accurate to within a few miles, if it works at all. There's a bunch of receivers available on ebay (and elsewhere) for cheap...I got a Holux GPSlim236 for a little over $100 and it works great with the wizard via bluetooth. They are your options....getting a receiver or forgetting about it.
Or try Navizon. It was created to do exactly what you want. http://www.navizon.com
Used to be free, now you have to pay for it. But theres a 14 day trial i believe.

I saw some bluetooth GPS receivers as low as $80. And you can use your GPS receiver anywhere.
If I have the tomtom software, do I have to get the tomtom gps receiver or can I use another brand?
I have TomTom 5.21 and use a non TomTom bluetooth GPs reciever.
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses. Seems I will need a GPS device. If thats the case, why bother with a PDA? Should just buying a Gavin or TomTom GPS device be enough?
--
Depends on what you want. If you have the phone already, $100 for a GPS unit and maybe $100 for decent mapping software is a whole lot cheaper than $500-$800 for a decent Garmin unit. Plus you get a phone and a PDA out of the deal. I went on vacation a few weeks ago and the mapping software plotted a route and told me how to get there. Once there, I used slingplayer to watch my home cable channels while sitting on the beach, I used the camera to take pictures of the beach and whatnot, the network connection to upload those pictures to a phlog, IM with friends and coworkers and check the weather and news with IE. Oh yeah...and it rang when I got a phone call or text message. Then it plotted a route back home (presumably the same way backwards but I didn't really check) and told me how to get there. Depends on what you want.
TomTom can work with other bluetooth receivers. Works with my Holux, at least.
I'm interested in buying a bluetooth gps receiver I found a few on amazon but this one caught my attention because of the price
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...6698/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-8138642-5399340?ie=UTF8
is that one any good?
I strongly advise you to check the type of GPS chip used in the receiver. The best one for the moment seems to be the Sirf star 3.
It's not as much of a detail as you may think : older chips can take a very long time to get fixed (which means that you might wait for dozens of minutes before even getting a GPS position), and are usually more power consuming.

POssible to turn wizard into tracking device with GPS

I was pondering if it would be possible to turn the Wizard into a GPS tracking device. Im not sure if someone has already created a program for this but it seems like it would be pretty simple. Basically just have the device send GPS coordinates via data connection to a host pc and have them translated to a map. I might be missing something though. I dont have a gps receiver yet to try it out, but I would like to know if anyone has done it before or if its possible.

Hi there, I have done this with a little piece of software from here.
www.3dtracking.net
When I first heard about them, the service was free. They now charge for most services but the free system is still there.
When you get to that page, look under "About 3dtracking" and the free bit is listed at the bottom.
All you have to do is create an account, which is simple and then download the software.
For anyone else reading this, they do software for the S60 series phones too. I had it running in my Nokia 7610 (Before the wizard of course).
The 7610 software is buggy but the PDA version seems to work excellently.
Hope that answers your question.
GPS tracking...
Yes, there are a number of programs available to do that.
Try mine:-

Software Idea

Can someone make an app like the parking app on the iphone, would this be straight forward to do, basically when you park your car you load the app and press a button and this adds a pushpin to google maps, then when you want to find your car you can reload that push pin.
Is this something that would be hard to do?
Park the car, and wait for a fix ...
but surely if you were already using something like tomtom you'd already have a fix.
WEll, I mostly drive in places I already know
* well * there I would remember where I have parked the car though
You got a point
But it won't work in parking garages.
But you could take a GPS foto ?
obviously it would be pointless for places you know but if you drove somewhere you didnt know you'd probably use the sat nav and have a gps fix, how do u take a gps photo?
The app on the iphone lets you press on button and that saves the location, then when you want to return to the car you can either see the location on google maps or get directions to the location, I thought that was quiet a good idea and was surprised there was nothing like that for windows mobile.
I did this at the weekend, not because I wouldn't be able to find my car, just because I thought of the idea and tried it out.
I used garmin to navigate to my destination and then once I parked simply added current location to my saved locations as "car" then later plan a route back to it, works a treat.
For GPS photos you need to activate the GPS photo mode in the camera which is mysteriously disabled by default along with sport mode and burst! The easiest way to do this is to install Advanced Config Tool and activate the setting in there
if you use gps photo to take a photo how do u get the coordinates off and into a gps program automatically.
Much easier to just park the car, save the location as a favourite in your sat nav app like TomTom, when you need to find the car, just navigate to a favourite called car , been doing that for a long time and it works just fine, last time I did it was when I parked my car in London when I went there for a day trip, first time I have driven to London, TomTom showed me the way back to the car, would never have found it otherwise

LMFAO best read off the day.!
Anybody remember the Seinfeld episode, in which they forgot where they parked the car?
It was in a parking garage, so no gps, but hilarious anyway.

sorry must be going blind. Any change of pointing out where th eGPK photo option is in the advance config tool?
Thanks
tried the gpsphoto today but could not get a gps signal, kept saying initialising gps, any ideas?

How is the GPS ?

What do you think about the GPS, which app would you recommand ?
People report back that TomTom version 7.915 is working fine......
Can recommend you TomTom
There's also a Copilot trial already in ROM, which is the other main option.
gps is excellent - better (more sats) than my rhodium and far far faster to lock than my kaiser. best yet in my opinion,
Does anyone know if IGO8 works with the mini? I am seriously considering this device since I at the point of being able to renew my contract.
Would love to know if anyone knows. Thanks!!!
Hi,
I have started a third party program which uses the gps.
When I turn off this program, the gps-icon in the tray doesn't go away.
I assume the gps is still running, but I can't find any settings to turn it off. Only thing that seem to work, is truning the phone off and on..
Anybody got an idea?
Hi stefanthege
I had this too with a little GPS app I use.
As far as I can see there isn't anything you can do to turn the GPS off, although it is supposed to shut down automatically if nothing is calling the GPS hardware.
For me, I noticed the application wasn't shutting down correctly, and was still listed in the task manager. Check there that your application isn't still running in the background when you think you have closed it.
Cheers
ow.
Hi,
Yes, I checked the task manager, and turned off ALL programs.. the GPS-icon was still showing in the icon-tray..
I don't think it's a big problem, because I don't use the GPS all that often.. but a little annoying..
Garmin
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT, Version 5.00.20wp, and is working well.
My ROM is 1.36.410.1 PTG.
GPS works great!
I've tested a lot of PNA & PDA devices with GPS and I'm very very satisfied with the GPS function on HTC HD mini, it works absolutely great! Finds satelites very fast, faster than some PNAs even it uses A-GPS. This can be problem when you are in roaming zones, for that, I use application DATA CONTROLLER (you can find it here in some forum).
I use iGO8 navigation software, with costumized DATA.zip archive, it works fine and I like it very much. Also iGO Primo is great solution.
HTC HD mini has totally satisfied my needs!
Hi Piona,
I was working several years ago with devices + external GPS units and devices with GPS inside (Pda, Notebook, smartphones,..)
I was working with GPS units from several manufacturers, kinds and versions (BT, serial, CF, SD, cable...).
In fact, several months ago, I was talking to HTC to know what is the brand what they included (Sirf,...) because it is a very interesting data to know if it works fine or not, in advance.
They did not confirm me this question but they informed me very good and send me tech. information in order to warranty a good perfomances.
Later, when we checked a couple of terminals (HTC mini) here, I could see is the best GPS what I checked.
Of course there is people with more experience than me but I can confirm you I invested days and days to check this question during a lot of years and GPS units and it is the best one.
It is a real GPS working in COM4 (Nmea, 4800bps)(remember it if you need to configure any software) but, the most important for me is it is very stable.
In short: fast, strong signal (I can work inside my office) and very stable.
Upon my point of view, the GPS is a very good argument from this terminal.
Have a good day
The GPS signal acquisition of my HD Mini is poor in comparison to my previous HD2. It can take 3-4 minutes to get a valid fix whereas the HD2 took only a few seconds.
This may be software related as I think it was better when I bought it, but until we can get the tools to update the Radio ROM I can only think of doing a hard reset to see if it improves.
My HD Mini (bought from Clove) came with a free copy of NDrive on a Micro-SD card.
It works very well. I find the HD Mini usually locks onto the satellites quickly when outside and holds that lock for longer, where my previous Sony Sat-Nav lost signal in the same position, in the same vehicle far faster.
If I had a criticism of NDrive it would be that it will sometimes instruct me to 'keep left' when what is really meant is 'turn left'.
Having said that recalculation of the route is almost instantaneous, it includes safety camera alerts and warns if I exceed the given speed limit for the current road.
I'd certainly recommend it and would probably buy NDrive next time I needed to.
I've now upgraded my ROM though still no new Radio ROM, but since then it has been far better. Fixes in about 20 seconds now from warm start.
GPS works great on HTC HD Mini.
Garmin mobile XT works like a cream.
Miero Via GPS Black edition is another one.
@ people who have the gps icon not removing itself as a status icon...
I myself have this problem using third party GPS navigation software...
try using google maps app after... then close google maps app ... with me this shuts down gps also...
Best of luck..
Joey
Garmin here also, flawless
GPS of HD mini is one of the best, if not the best. It acquires satellite signals and lock on very quickly. Even inside my office room. Takes seconds to lock. It out-performs the dedicated GPS device i bought earlier and installed in my car. So, now, the removed that device, and use my HD mini as primary navigation device.
I use NaviComputer instead of the built-in Google Map.
NaviComputer is a great app. It allows offline maps to be downloaded and saved on the phone. No need for internet access when i go out and use the phone as GPS device. This is a big plus, because in some areas -- especially in places when you most need to find your way back, GPRS/mobile internet is so weak and mostly non-existent. So that makes the wonderful Google map practically useless for me.
I use TomTom and also GPSTuner.
with both programs I haven't any issue
ozi
also oziexplorer works very well. I noticed it continues logging when the display switches off. this is really good for battery life!

Panapacific DEA600 head unit and smart touch screen...

Hey Guys,
I just bought a brand new Kenworth W900, and it has android auto (or something mimicing it) built in... A panapacific dea600... the major problem is it super kludge... amongst being terribly locked down, i cannot connect to an ad hoc wifi thru my windows 10 laptop (that is tethered to my S6 with easy tether)... my tablet can connect to the ad hoc no problems, and my stereo can see the network but cannot connect to it for some reason (i REALLY need to update the trucks GPS maps, and have you tried to use a truck stops wifi? (like dial up))... id really just like access to the OS or another launcher so i can add some apps that i need (no not facebook or stuff like that) and perhaps root and rom it....
its running android 4.2.2... and i can get you the entirely too long software version
Its sad really because this could be cutting edge stuff, but someone higher up had to come up with ways to neuter this damn thing... and look i get that there are things i shouldnt have access to while driving, but it DOES have android web browser built in so its not like they dont want us using it...
i dont expect the world as this unit has only been shipping with trucks for a few months... and many of you may not have come across it... but perhaps it shares hardware with another system and panapacific just stole it (it HAS happened many times)
thanks guys and look forward to replies before i finish going insane
Nobody?
DEA600 - SmartDisplay for Automotive Infotainment
Hey,
I just came across your note while search for this product - I was the software architect/tech lead for the supplier company providing the Android port and the Freescale SOM component of the display screen on this product line - although moved on shirtly after the system went to mass production. - it is awesome to see someone here discuss it!
You are very correct on a lot of you assumptions and assessments. it was a very ambitious project that really tried to leverage as much of what Android was capable of at the time it was planned, but tuned to work as a smart display for commercial vehicles.
The display is only a part of a system of components. The display runs a port of Android 4.2.2 - but highly tailored to its environment - pairs with the Delphi radio unit (as a peer, not as an accessory) and is toghtly coupled to the unit in production. as a security measure.
unfortunately for what you are looking for, though much of the upgrade and app installation capabilities have been locked down to prevent side loading or execution of "unauthorized" apps that don't have special keys fro. the OEM or manufacturer. even if installed, the system manager will kill any apps that are launched without keys.
you may be able to get a developer key from the OEM but I don't know how they chose to mange that in the final system.
thanks for the posting, though - it was a small run comparatively for android systems but it was a pretty damn cool system with what we did get working....
I would be happy to discuss more if you want. - with what I can....

DEA600
hi there
i have same head unit in my 389 pride and class peterbilt, for the map part, that you can update by connecting it to your phones internet, either wifi hot spot if not then just connect it with bluetooth and use bluetooth tethering of phone and PAN of your DEA600, but main problem in the system is that you cant put a single thing without pulling breaks, and u cant download a single file by any means, it just displays error that unfortunately process.android. stopped or browser has stopped or settings has stopped. if any one figured out how to download anythimg in this little thing. please update
hello there. I have T-680 with DEA600. I had exactly the same problem and ended up taking my truck to a dealer. it turned out to be defected radio. After it was replaced, it would connect to a hotspot no problem ( im using htc 10).
I have the same unit in my W 900. It is a huge disappointment in many ways. First of all just like any factory radio I have ever seen in a commercial truck the sound quality is horrible. Second I don't like the fact that it locks so many functions when I am driving. I have a passenger that rides with me most of the time that is perfectly capable of safely operating those functions while I drive. This makes the GPS almost useless for the way I like to use a GPS. Good thing I still have my Garman. But really my biggest disappointment is the fact that I cannot get the gauges to work properly. It states that I can choose from over 30 gauges to be displayed however I have been unable to find any way to change from the six default gauges that are there. I have read the manual but it does not explain how to open the menu that lets you choose which gauges are there. I don't know if my unit is defective like one of a red one of yours was or if it just hasn't come out in an update yet. Also if I am reading this right it looks like my display and gauges function are tied to the stereo which means if I replace the head unit I'm going to lose that function. Am I reading that correctly?
Hey guys so a friend of mine has the DEA601 in his new truck and drives him nuts that the passenger cannot control things when its going faster than 5km hour (his old Peterbuilt worked fine).
I'm a software eng and would like to find out how to disable the Distracted Driver feature (like you can do in settings on many other Android Auto ROM's like Honda). What are my options here? a) Make a whole new ROM (but how to do that?) b) try to hexedit the existing ROM and find where the 5 km value is and modify it c) add an add-on app somehow to override this limit or d) other???
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I found out in order for the guages to work I need an $800 module my truck didn't come with. Now my biggest problem is the technology seems to have stagnated. The software on my phone and tablet are no longer very comparable with Android 4.2. I try my iPhone and my Android tablet and neither will play Pandora consistently. I am forced to use Bluetooth which looses sound quality on an already low quality stereo. I really wish Kenworth had spent their R &D on making their trucks compatible with idatalink like most aftermarket stereos use.
At this point I am torn between installing a hideaway marine stereo with a remote display and leaving this POS Pans Pacrapic as a display with nono sound. Or installing a line converter and amp and dealing with this clunky software. I wish someone would make a rom to upgrade this thing.
Looks like the Mfg won this round

I'm driving one of these trucks also and I keep checking this post but I guess we havent incentivized anyone who cud help yet!
The electrical switch must be located behind the air brakes control knob. I'm sure if you pull the stereo out you will find the wires that control the disabling feature. The unit tries to "update" when connected to wifi. Maybe someone can use wireshark and grab the update packet and modify it with root installed. I'm ok with trying anything short of taking the unit apart and Jtag the firmware directly. Would love to see one taken apart.

This is a 2+ year old thread being g responded to.
What is your point? 2years later and still no solution to the problem. I ran across this thread of people discussing the same problems I'm having with the radio unit. If you got something usefull to add to this discussion then please feel free otherwise you don't need to acknowledge when what was posted that helps me null with my problem.
Anyone here figure anything out?
still nothing
Hello! So I have little tech experience but I am willing to work with someone here to sort this out. Got a 17 w900 that I put a aftermarket double din in and retained smart nav for the gauges. What I did find was the screen (not the radio) gets a input from the wire harness off the ecm to give data to the screen. So I’ll attach a picture of the plug and maybe we can use this plus find it’s female counterpart then get the other end to plug into a maestro box? My Sony doesn’t have maestro. I do have a pioneer that does but can’t justify the cost being the Guinea pig. I’ve already been one of the first to get the tilt column to drop LOW and managed to fit a true 7” double din where the stupid nav was.
