SIP Change

wow abe you really get around. I appreciate all your help. I dont understand what a sip is though. i installed the resco keyboard and there was an option to set it as default, now i want the 2manyphones pcm keyboard to be my default but I cant figure out how to change it. And I cant uninstall it cause it always says its in use. once again I need the kings knowledge! thx man

did you try switching to a different keyboard before uninstalling?

ya it still says theres a sharing issue and it cant be uninstalled

Make sure under all settings for each keyboard, that it's not set as default, if it has that option. Then open SIP change and set it to whatever one you want as default, with about a 15 second delay time, and after a soft reset, you should be fine.
SIP = Soft Input Panel or Secondary Input Panel

Touchpal freezing

Hi,
I use Touchpal V3.5 and i absolutely love it, if you haven't tired it I highly recommend it, especially good is the mixed language input and I actually type faster using touchpal+gsen in landscape mode than I did with a hardware keyboard (a worry that almost prevented me from buying this marvelous device). I do have two little niggles that would be great if i could overcome somehow:
1. Setting Touchpal to the default keyboard does not stick after a restart/reset. I have to change the keyboard each time i start up. I tried SIP Change but it doesn't seem to have an option for running at start-up....anyone know if i can get at the registry somewhere or something?
2. When I first open it, if i try to type in Chinese before using English, it freezes in a bad way, disabling EVERY window that tries to call the sip and requiring a soft reset to make the phone useable again. If I open it, type something in english, and then switch the input to chinese it runs like a charm until I restart again...what is that about?
Actually neither of these issues is a deal breaker, but it would be nice not to have to worry about it, is anyone else having these troubles?...any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
touchpal
i have touchpal also and cant keep it as default. Ive tried all the fixes there are on all the threads. Doesnt work for Touchpal. any suggestions or fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Well I figured out the answer to problem one on my own...TF3D takes a little time to load and interferes with SipChange so you need to adjust the delay so as to happen after TF3D is finished.
Just tap SIPChange, select the IM you want, and set the time to 45 seconds (shorter may work). Bingo, stays the default IM on restart
whats the difference (apart from it's tabulated) between touchpal and "compact QWERTY" mode keyboard?
you also need to Go make this change: HKCU\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Apps and remove the folder called "Startkey"
I have the same problem with touchpal, where do i do this?
Just tap SIPChange, select the IM you want, and set the time to 45 seconds (shorter may work). Bingo, stays the default IM on restart
@FRUSTIN:
TOuchpal is third-party software by CooTek, "Compact Querty" is just a different layout for the tock HTC input method. TOuchpal is MUCH more feature rich and just kicks the [email protected] out of the default keyboard in every way, it supports tons of languages and multi-language input (go back and forth between two languages in the same sentence without changing any settings), web hotkeys, adds copy/cut/paste and D-pad to EVERY app, etc. check it out at www.cootek.com
@DIAMONDBS:
I did NOT do that and it works perfectly for me...why do you need to remove an entire folder from the registry? Can anone confirm this?
@WEETABIX1980:
Just go to start>programs>SIP Change, when the program opens you select Touchpal from the list of input methods and then change the numbers in the box below the list to 45, then click "Select"...should be the only button there...tapping "OK" is not good enough, be sure to tap "Select"
thanks, any clue what sip change in dutch is in the programs?
anyone knows this?
SIPChange is a little tool developed here at XDA:

Download the cab to your phone and install. This should then give you the options mentioned above.
Touchpal intermittantly hangs on me aswell. I post on here about it before. I tried allsorts to cure it (hard resets, clean installs etc). So annoying when demoing the phone to a friend and all of a sudden the keyboard hangs and wont popup.
I used to love Touchpal, now I hate it and will not install it on my phone.

Unable to solve this problem, installed spb keyboard. It works after any reset.

I have installed Finger Keyboard 2 and had a similar problem until I installed SIP Change which allows you to choose which keyboard you want to use as default. Then no matter how many times you soft reset your phone, it will always be your default.
Just install SIP Change and then go to Start/Programs/SIP Change and select which keyboard you want.
Enjoy

uninstalling keyboard??

How can i uninstall the default keyboard??
can't unless you could edit the ROM which I wish I knew how to do, and if I could I'd take it out too. The best thing to do is to change the default keyboard using SKTools. And if that does not satisfy, use Advance Configuration tool and it can disable the keyboard from automatically opening when you tap on a text field.

Turn off XT9 permanently and stop it from interfering with Swype?

I've installed Swype and really like it. I'm using SIPchange to enable it as a default. Unfortunately, XT9 will interfere with the words selected by Swype even after you've picked the right word. The only way to disable this is to manually change to Touch Input keyboard and disable XT9 on the keyboard before changing back to Swype.
I've already disabled both Spell Correction and Word Completion in Touch Input under Settings> Personal> Input> Touch Input> Options, but XT9 still turns on the next time I restart the phone.
Hi, I'm using swype too and haven't noticed any interference from XT9, but I might not have known what I'm looking for.
What are your symptoms?
I have had that happen to me before on certain Roms... cant tell you which one... usually, it works fine (I am using Topix Rom now)
When it did happen, I turned off XT9 under the settings but I ALSO opened the default keyboard and turned it off there but pressing the key.... moved back to swype after that and the xt9 word options were gone... just the usual swype dictionary/options at times.... Soft reset didn't change anything... it was all ok still
Hope this helps
Unfortunately for me, once I shutdown/soft reset the phone, XT9 is automatically activated on the Touch Input keyboard again even though everything has already been turned off in the Settings>Personal>Input. Also, it seems that the Touch Input keyboard automatically defaults to one of the Chinese input methods instead of English. Maybe that's where the problem lies. Where can I default the Touch Input keyboard to English?
BTW, I have my Locale set as Australia, so that isn't the problem.
The symptoms are: Once you've "Swyped" the word and pick the one you want, XT9 then shows up with it's word choices and either shows the same word or if I have it initial caps, make it all small letters
I also noticed that in Settings>Personal>Input, when I select Swype then click the "OK" button, it doesn't save the selection, and goes back to "Touch Input" when I open the "Input" dialogue again. I guess this probably means that some of my registry entries are toast...
That is indeed weird... do you have something like SIP change installed? I use that to start Swype by default during startup after a restart.. Don't know if that might help...
Yes, I do have SIPchange installed, but it's already set to Swype as the default.
I had the same problem and this is my partial solution.
Go to HKLM/Softwares/Tegic/eT9/IsSupportMSSIPContact
Change the Dword from 1 to 0.
this will get rid of XT9 for Swype but only if it is NOT the default. Therefore, there is the nagging inconvenience of having to change it to Swype every time your soft reset. But it is better than that nothing.
Thanks for the partial solution. It's at least better than what I'm doing now after every reboot, which is to:
1. change Swype to Touch Input
2. change Touch Input to EN so that the keyboard shows up
3. click on the XT9/ABC button
4. change Touch Input back to Swype..
One thing to note, I just went to the registry and there isn't the value you listed. However, there is the following string value:
HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\LRU_MS_InputMethod and the value is Swype.
I'm wondering if this is what is causing XT9 to activate when Swype is active.. Do you have this value in your registry? what value is it?
Quick edit to note that I added a DWORD IsSupportMSSIPContact with value "0" and soft reset... Sorry to say that it didn't disable XT9 even if Touch Input was defaulted. Guess my problem is slightly different than yours.
Yes, all those values are the same. Need ot check if you also disable xt9 using some .cab. If not then you will need to do the following:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\Ime File
Change it to read as compime.dll
and
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010409\Layout Text
Change to COMP IME
This will disable eT9. Please remember the original values should you want to revert back.
I think that should work.
have fun.
weenween, the two registry values you gave are already what is on my phone..
But XT9 still enables itself when I restart the phone. I've now resigned myself to disabling XT9 on the Touch Input keyboard manually each time I restart the phone.
In any case, thanks for your help.
I have exactly the same problem adn symptoms as GregWee. Must be becasue we both have Hong Kong HD2s where the default english keyboard is PinYin?
I have a similar issue. I have a TMOUS HD2 with QQ 2010 mobile loaded on it for chinese text entry. The QQ keypad has become the default everytime I reboot - entirely unwanted. Somehow it interferes with the contact dropdown list in messaging and email. It has something to do with the T9 staying on when entering a contact name. I installed sipchange but it does not overide the QQ default after a soft reset.
After changing between keyboards a few time it begins to work properly in email and then finally in messages. Right now, since the last soft reboot and playing around, when I am in either email or messages the stock keyboard will automatically switch from T9 to abc when I move the cursor to enter a contact name. The contacts appear as I type as they should. Swype works fine too. I have no idea what I did to get it to work but I have had the same experience several times today. Hopefully I will figure it out.
I would like to know a way to override the QQ as the default keyboard. I think this might fix the problem.
Any suggestions?

How to prevent applications from changing SIP?

Till now I've been using the HD2's standard HTC keyboard as SIP, as I haven't found anything I was really satisfied with.
Until yesterday I installed Resco Keyboard Pro 6 Beta, which is just fantastic (read about it elsewhere in the forum). Perfect for HD2.
But now, I've discovered that a number of my apps changes the SIP back to standard HTC when I open them. Resco's option to make its keyboard the default SIP does work. After soft-reset, it's still the default SIP in most programs.
So I tried installing Fingerkeyboard, SPB Keyboard, etc, just to make sure it wasn't Resco's fault (as it's a beta version anyway...). The same happened with all the other 3rd party keyboards.
Is there anyway to prevent apps from changing the SIP? It's driving me crazy, have to manually switch back to Resco everytime I open those stupid apps (which I depend on at work ) Thank you in advance.
Use XDA google search and look for a programme/cab file called sipchange.
Install it then select the keyboard type you want as your default; problem solved.

Not that simple, I'm afraid. My problem is not how to set Resco as the default keyboard after SR. Get that already with Resco's own inbuilt option. Then I tried using both SIPChange and default_IM_WM5.cab. It still happens, some of my apps changes the keyboard back to standard when executed (and it is not about setting the delay in SIPChange, I'm talking about after all the processes during SR).
That's strange. Never had this problem with Sipchange installed.
You are certain that you have set your preferred default keyboard via the sipchange utility? That's how you get the keyboard you want to boot up after a SR.
If yes then not sure what else to suggest.

Hi, I am having the same problem. One example of such software is Lingvosoft, when you hit search key, the keyboard pop opens, but with default keyboard, even after using sipchange.
I was thinking maybe there's a way to disable the standard HTC keyboards all together through the reg. But that's asking for trouble/hard-reset
What to do...
I think the problem is that using SIPChange, DefaultIM.cab, nueSIPdefault, etc, none of these really changes the value of "defaultim" at controlpanel\sip. It remains with the standard keyboard's CLSID.
I'm really tempted to change this value to Resco's, but reading around here in this forum shows a lot of people having big trouble afterwards messing with this value (mainly because they used the wrong CLSID?) and required a hard-reset...
