Anybody else using the free dictionary WordNetCE on their diamond.
I am finding the font size to be far too large for easy easy (2 words per line)
the software only allows the font to be reduce to size 8 which is not enough.
Navigating to the wordnet directory i found the file the controls the fontsize and adjusted it to 6, but the software does not obey this parameter when starting and returns to its default setting.
Anybody have a suggestion of what else i can try to improve the usability of this software
thanks
yeah, me too, same problem. Unless someone else uses a different freeware dictionary that works with the HTC Diamond?.....

I am using a nice Java program for train schedules provided by the Austrian railways:
http://www.oebb.at/pv/de/Servicebox/Mobile_Services/SCOTTYmobil/Informationen.jsp
But even when changing the textsize to large in the programs settings, the size of the text is tiny, due to the high resolution of the Blackstone. Is there a way to change this by some system settings?
Chris
I suppose you have Jbed.

Hi all,
I'm not sure what its called, but you know the context menus that come up basically whenever you hold your pointer over something for a while? It annoys me with the size they are in wm6.5. I love the speed of wm6.5 (tried both xplode's r7 (about to install 7.1...) and swampy's rls) but it really annoys me that they've made everything so big. Seems to take twice as long to do simple things now because now you have to scroll down menus to find what you're looking for. Is there anyway to bring this back to the good old "classic" sizes? I can't seem to find an option anywhere... and I realise loading a skinning app is just going to slow the OS down making the whole upgrade to 6.5 kinda pointless.
Also, does anyone know a way to speed up the actual time taken to register a tap and hold command? So that we don't have to spend as long to bring up the context menus?
Thanks in advance~

that's a lot of questions. let me start with saying that i can not guarantee you, that the reg tweaks work. i found them for different devices and checked both my devices and didn't have the reg keys in there. so i don't knoiw if it helps you. Maybe, if i find out more, i'll post it later:
1. The size of the context and softkey menus:
a. the easiest way to influence the size and look of those menus would be, installing another theme. not just the color will change, but also the entire looks, so if you have a .tsk theme, copy it to the device and activate it, you will see it changed.
b. regitry tweak:
HKLM\System\GWE\Menu\Popfnt\
there should be two dword values that you can change to whatever you like.
ht=height is default set to 1000
wt=width is default set to 700
2. a skinning app is gonna slow down the os
- true, with wm6.5 there is really no need for anything else to make the graphics any nicer
3. tap and hold time:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay
right-click, select properties, and enter a value from zero to 999 milliseconds
if that value, does not exist, create it (string value)
if those values didn't work, you should try out advanced config, which can be downloaded here: http://www.pocketpc.ch/news/42529-freeware-advanced-config-3-0-a.html
there you have more than 200 tweaks for the os and don't need to search the registry for any values.
first off, a big thank you for the speediness of your reply.
i tried out the other tsk files i have... but unfortunately i don't have any older ones from wm5/6, only the newer 6.5 ones. they didn't seem to make much difference in size of anything... only the actual colour/font schemes. if you have any older tsk files that you wouldn't mind uploading, that'd be much appreciated as something to try.
the softkeys aren't so much an issue - i've got wisbar to disable them (yes yes, i know wisbar is a skinning app... but i prefer a nice cascading start menu to something i need to fumble through to find stuff any day) - its more the context menus that are annoying me.
the registry edit is interesting. changing the height and width actually also changes the zoom on the font size... i'm not sure how this is being calculated, but the font is clearly getting smaller the smaller you set the dimensions. it seems like its taking a predefined box with the text designed to take up a predefined percentage of it and then letting you put in the dimensions of the box... basically so that no matter what numbers you plug in, you'll always have the rather annoying amount of space being wasted between items in the context menus. though all that said and done, 750 for height and 350 for width are far more workable than the previous settings. more than legible too imo~
the tap and hold time tweak worked wonderfully
thanks again~
Tap and Hold time delay Setting
I found your post ref to Tap and Hold delays. I tried this Tap and Hold setting you said worked on your phone (see below) I tried it as shown below on a HTC wm 6.5 HTC pure(diamond2), and did not see a change, were you able to shorten the delay? Is that done with a String? or Dword?
3. tap and hold time:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\MenuShowDelay
right-click, select properties, and enter a value from zero to 999 milliseconds
if that value, does not exist, create it (string value).
I have spent hours searching the registry for a solution
it was a dword iirc... tbh, this hasn't been so much of an issue for me with the newer releases so i haven't bothered so much.

If you still need themes for wm6.1, try http://www.wm6themes.com/
I use one from that site on my BA, but since i don't have wm6.5 installed right now, i can't tell you whether it'll help in your situation or not.
Opera Mobile 10 is more slick, but a big problem I had with it was that unless Zoom was set to at least 140%, links / text in Portrait mode were too small to click on / read. The lack of adaptive zoom and zoom slider in Opera 10 didn't help either. Well not any more!
Either go into the Opera advanced settings page by typing in "opera:config" in the URL when Opera 10 is running and click on "Fonts" to change the font settings, or just stick the following lines into the "Opera.ini" file inside <Opera 10 Installed Location>\PROFILE\ directory:
Code:
[Fonts]
Form.Button=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Form.Input=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Form.Text=24,3,0,0,0,0,Courier New
H1=40,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H2=34,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H3=30,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H4=26,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H5=22,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
H6=20,5,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
Normal=25,3,0,0,0,0,Tahoma
PRE=23,3,0,0,0,0,Courier New
The 1st number in each line represents the actual font size. Adjust to your liking. The font sizes above let me navigate most websites with Default Zoom @ 100% and the text is very readable.
Note that some webpages will look more misaligned due to the larger fonts, but now at least you won't need to have zoom at 200% to be able to read the text
This probably also works for Opera 9.7 and below, but the issue isn't as important since these versions have a more useful zoom slider and proper font-size adjustment in the Settings menu whereas Opera 10 buries it in the opera:config page.
Hope this helps some of you out there.
Have you also tried to size the browser window to fit on the screen from the "opera:config"? I mean, I tried to set the default zoom to 100% instead of (I believe) 175% as is the default. Looking at a webpage I like to see it all, and THEN I decide what to zoom in on.
I read another post where the guy managed to set the zoom to 100%, I just didn't have any luck doing that on my phone! Maybe I made a mistake, don't know...
Wonder if there might be another place to type in how wide you want to see the pages in default mode...
regards Helle
Thanks for this info
I have recently bought an HTC Diamond2 and upgraded its ROM to the official WM6.5, still using TouchFLO 3D. I have set the character size to the largest available size (through Settings), yet the character size in 'Contacts', SMS text and the digits when I dial a phone number is too small for my eyes.
Is there a Registry Tweak or Utility to further increase the character/font size?
I use a utility from here to zoom in/out text from SMS text, which is good but not adequate (NB that no sliding bars appear for the text to be read properly but...).
In addition, mine is bought from the Netherlands, yet I installed the official Greek WM6.5 ROM.
I tried RealVGA, but a single DPI is available (hence useless).
Thanks in advance for any information.
there is a magnifying program for the phone. Maybe this is something for you?

i believe the real life application: "reading glasses" might also be appropriate here
jokes aside, magnification programs are easy to use. search for them in this forum. a few available i think.
I do own the real-life application "reading glasses"; the problem is that when I am about and the phone rings, it is not easy to take the 'application' out of my pocket and 'run' it.
I have also installed the Zoom In/Out application for SMS.
Nevertheless I am surprised there is no information on how to change the character DPI under WM6.5 or the screen resolution.
Thank you again for your answers
The fontsize from the SMS tab can be found in a _manila-File.
But i forgot in which file... You could ask a rom cook, who build in a biger SMS font.
I changed the font on Manila 2.1, but not on 2.5 with Mode9 editor.

Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551611
You can just use the slider to enlarge the text in SMS and emails.
As far as the system text.... maybe Advanced Config?
Thank you, but the proposed application does not run for some reason (I have install the latest mobile .net framework (version 3.7). Should I use 3.5 instead?
As for the last reply, I have set the character size to maximum from the Settings, but they are too small due to the small screen size compared to the resolution.
Judging from a LG GT500 I would say that a resolution of about 320x200 (or slightly higher) would be alright, but I know neither the Registry setting (if one is available) or a working application that can do the trick.
Thanks again for the replies though.
Try NET CF v3.5.
Is it possible to have bigger fonts size to read SMS in the Sense (I know how to make it in windows mode). Any cab or registry mod? Thank in advance.
Went searching the registry and found an obvious entry. Changed the default setting of 2 to 5, soft reset and I no longer have to squint my eyes !
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMessaging\Fonts\FontScale
A word of caution to those with huge amount of sms. I suspect it may cause lagging with the increased font size.
Open a SMS, menu -> font size?
