flashed diamond, now where is my backup - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hi, guys,
I managed to flash my TD with the latest switft rom, and it rocks!... more ram, more speed.
Only problem is the original telstra rom came with some backup software (not sure what it was -sprite? , as I pretty much flashed it straight away).
Is there anywhere I can download and install the htc backup utility?
Cheers, and sorry if it's been posted before, but a few searches returned nothing.
Oh, and the HTC.com/au website does not seem to be sending registration authentication emails for some reason.
Thanks, stevo.

Hello,
The app is on the CD-ROM delivered with your phone.
You don't need a serial with it ...

but it is not recommended to backup and restore on a different rom. Unless u wanna backup then do a hard reset and restore on the same rom. Use PIM BACKUP for personal data like contacts, appointments, call history etc.

yea, just to backup on the same rom.
found it on the cd cheers.

New ROM XDA II - 2 little Qs! - Sprite & Re-lock danger?

Hi!
If I install the new o2 Rom can I then just restore a complete backup of my device made with Sprite Backup running on the old Rom?
My apologies if that question betrays terrible ignorance!
Second question - will installing the new Rom re-lock the sim to o2?
Many thanks
Conor
The phone will remain unlocked, I dont know about sprite backup because I stopped using it after it corrupted my sms on restore and locked down my sim so I couldnt receive sms.
Don't ever restore any part of the Inbox on Windows Mobile 2003. It will always become corrupt... especially the SMS account! Activesync Backup/Restore, xBackup, Sprite Backup... none will restore the Inbox accounts properly.
After a ROM upgrade , don't restore from a complete backup ... reinstall properly your softs ...
For the SIM , after upgrade, mine is always free

unable to restore data after ROM upgrade

I just upgraded to the latest ROM's supplied by O2 (3.17.03), and now active sync says my backup was made with the wrong version of software.
Is there any way to get the data back on to my XDA? In particular my contacts, as they will be the hardest to replace?
If not, is it possible to go back to the old ROM? (the radio ROM upgrade warned not to downgrade roms)
ActiveSync backup can be only restored to the same ROM. The best way to backup contacts is to use Outlook. Yes, you can flash your ROM back to the previous version, restore the contacts, backup them to Outlook, flash the new ROM then sync with Outlook to get the contacts list
there ma ybe another way
So i was about to download the old ROM updates from http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda/xda_ROM_Archive.htm
When i read the readme on that page. It says that active sync can only restore to a device with exactly the same partnership/device ID. It says you must delete the existing partnership and recreate it.
So i have done that, and a resotre is currently in progress (restoring a full backup from an old rom, to the new rom version of my walaby).
I will post back in 10 minutes when it has finished to let everyone know what has/hasnt been restored.
check for reginal settings.
In case it was changes to customize your device before upgrage - change them now from default.
it is not recommended to restore after ROM upgrade, tho...
restore not reccomended
I suppose i can understand why, but in any case i dont use outlook. So i cant see me having much choice...
Btw, does anyone know of software to sync the XDA to mozilla (preferable under linux too!)
backup to SD card
Out of curiosity, the pdf i read regarding the upgrade said you can back up to a SD card too.
Is this any different to backing up via ActiveSync? Is it any less risky to restore such a backup after an upgrade?
Up to my information, it has the same issue ... SD backup can't be restored to a different ROM version.
http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/
sync with
evolution
cynce
Looks good... anyone tried to sync with Mozilla Thunderbird??
Restore worked
So the restore seems to have worked... kind of...
The thing runs, but the old sms messages are only in the index, and i cant seem to delete them or view them.
The new programs from the upgrade dont seem to be here, though they could be lying around in a folder somwhere i havent looked.
My Fiitaly install works, though the input method occasinaly tries to be the transcriber even though it shouldnt be.
All in all, its usable, but when i have time i will be finding a copy of outlook just to back up the contacts and then flashing the ROM again and installing everything else again.
A note to anyone else who might be trying the same thing, all your notes etc can be backed up just by activesync synchronising your XDA mydocuments with a sub-folder of your pc's mydocuments. Then hopefully outlook can do the contacts and appointments. Dunno what you'd have to do if you wanted to save your sms messages or call log or anything
Results
Well, instead od studying for my exams (yup, just like me to do this) I installed Outlook, synchronised the XDA, flashed it again, synchronised it again, installed my software and it seems to be pretty good!
Lost my sms messages, but thats no problem to me.
2 things that are odd:
I had to add a shortcut to notes.exe in the start menu because it didnt exist
Also, i cannot create new accounts, ie gprs email ones. Of course, this would only be useful if the new ROM supports encrypted IMAP connections. Does it? Is there a free (or maybe cheap) third party solution that does?

ROM upgrade - how to backup?

Hi all,
I'm thinking about upgrading to latest ROM however it took me a while to make all my apps running (especially TomTom) so I'd like to avoid reinstall. Is there any proven method how/with what software backup data, upgrade and then restore data from backup?
Any comments appreciated.
Chris
PS: Forgot to mention: device is Imate Jasjar.
I've heard that SpriteSoftware advertizes that their backup can even be used for restoring data after a firmware upgrade.
I cannot confirm this as I am more than sceptic about it (I think it is not advisable to do so on a new firmware).
If you try just buy the Backup Software for WM5 !
What are your really important data you should backup ?
1. Internet Bookmarks
2. Contacts (the ones in your phone)
3. important SMS
You can re-install all programs again after an upgrade (though it's very annoying work).
I'd like to avoid 2 evenings lost for installing all the stuff.
I was just reading about this tonight on the Axim site.
Yes, Sprite will do backups that will restore after ROM upgrade, they even have an Upgrade Mode built into their software.
If I can remember the post I read you have to run a tool, copy a file to your SD card, back up, do the upgrade then copy the file back and restore your backup.
Here is the FAQ entry dealing with it, but the instructions are slightly different. You might want to check up on it yourself.
I tried this and it just didn't work. I have been in communication with Sprite for nearly a week now and I've got no where. If you got to the Sprtite Backup site and look in the Q&A/Forum, you should see all my correspondence.

Anyway, I spent hours yesterday doing a manual re-build. The plus side is that I've freed loads of memory after the (well several actually) hard resets.

Problem restoring SMS with PIMBackup on Alex-V ROM (WM6.5 23529)

Hi,
I just flashed my Orbit 2 with the W6.5 ROM from Alex-V. Followed the howto from
fktsndr (Thread ID: 384084). Then I restored my SMS via PIMBackup. I just chose SMS to restore. However I got weird results. The SMS have wrong date stamps, cut text, wrong mapping of SMS body text to sender. When I go to my SMS folder it seems that their is an ongoing process which adds messages. After a while the system hangs. If I reset after 10 mins. I just see the O2 Splash screen and system hangs, so I have to do a hard reset.
I' ve got around 1500 SMS. Restoring contacts and call history works fine.
I tried wm6.5 German com5 23529 alex-V (flip clock)_10.02_input 2.1.rar and wm6.5 German com5 23529 alex-V 10.02 input 2.1 lite.rar
Hope somebody can help me. Thanks in advance!
Best regards
Andreas

Why you make a new thread for that problem...for things like this...my rom thread is the right place for this...!!!!
but anythere...i don´t have problems with this...but can you try install pim backup new...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
Hope it help....
edit: have you flashed like this...the way you flash is very important
If you have problems after flash my rom....restart....flash Orginal rom + hard reset if you see the calibration screen after that flash my rom also with a hard reset....after a complete boot a soft reset
edit 2: in your previous rom have you threaded sms or normal ...??
edit 3: try a other backup file...and is it the same with a other file..??
Thank you for the quick answer!
I'll repeat the flashing and I will carefully follow your instructions. Hope this helps. Actually since you have the same device. I come from W6.1 (original O2 branded) where I had threaded SMS. When I try other backup files or even I use the same file again I got different results. All are weird.

mmhh..strange...so please try a reflash with the flash instructions....it´s very very important to flash this way...i have also problems if i flash any rom and make it not like the explained way...
but if the problem after flash is the same...try to reinstall pimbackup...and let me know...
edit: have tried again and restore a pim backup file...and it´s ok...no problems...
So I followed your instruction, but same result. The step where I am not sure is after I did the the hard reset after installing the original rom. You wrote I should then flash your rom. Does it matter whether I boot with original rom, connect with ActiveSync and then flash according to the instructions of the Flash Tool or shall I go into boot loader and then flash?
It all sounds strange for me. Because according to my experience with other computer stuff it either works or it doesn't. Strange behaviour like restoring half the sms on a weird way and at same time Windows, Internet, and all the tools, I tested, operating (slow) but reliable doesn't sound like a flash problem as more as an incompatibility of PIM Backup with W6.5. May be the bug occurs only with a certain number of SMS.
Problem nailed down: I figured out that I cannot restore my SMS even on the original ROM so it seems to be more a problem with a corrupted archive.
Fortunately I have a fallback with a dumped ROM respectively a Sprite Backup. Cross fingers that that works. ****y PIM Backup.

it sounds very strange for me too...because i tried myself...pim backup and it works ok for me...i try a 2. attempt with a other file...and all ok....so something is wrong on your phone...
in pim backup i take the option for add only new..to database...and after the backup process the left softkey says..exit....after that i go to sms and all is ok....
for flash...after hard reset the original rom...it boots and the calibrtion screen comes again...i flash my rom....

edit: hope next time i can help you more
In my case PIMbackup is not trully wm6.5 compliant. I think it has a high peak of resources consumption so sometimes is simply gets the ppc frozen, At least in my case, the same backup file gets loaded or freezes the ppc, depending on how many things load at the same time, etc. Most of the times after a soft reset everything is there so it is not a big issue in my case.
Have you tried MyPhone? I do not use any more neither PIMBackup nor ActiveSync since I tried MyPhone ... (I resisted since windows software tends to turn my skin red!)

i use both...myphone is nice and all but you need connection...ive tested pimbackup to the max and have yet found any issue...currently it restores more than 300 contacs, more than 4000 sms, plus emails, logs, history...it seems lockedup but its working...it uses alot the cpu so it may seem locked but its still working...great software...but as always use whatever works...
cheers
I have found out, that for some reasons PIM Backup is not working correctly all the time. During Backup it throws sometimes some messages, that it cannot access certain files. After that it ends normally but I cannot find the backup file anywhere.
In the end I managed somehow to restore my SMS. However I did this using Megan ROM. Therefore I restored the original system, did the backup again as plain text (not binary), had contacts and SMS in anextra file. Flashed the new ROM and restored everything. Now I am too annoyed of all the flashing, so that I won't test it with Alex's ROM again.

i can only say that i tried it again and again and again....and 100 % Ok....i have no problem with pim backup not in my english rom and also not in my german rom...so i don´t know whats the problem...sorry
I tried a hell lot of ways , but finally adb pull worked for me
In Recovery mode with data mounted use the pull command
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Try it as the last option if nothing works

Complete phone backup

I've found 'My phone' to be very good for backing up the general user data on board the HD2 but am aware of it's limitations.
I want to be able to backup my registry, sense items: (stocks, weather locations etc) opera favourites etc to my backup hard drive so that should I have to hard reset I can easily restore everything as it was as I finally have my phone set up the way that I like. However I don't know the file names or where the files are located.
Can other people add to this the locations of the backup files needed to make a full backup and also any other things that should be backed up that I haven't got in my list?

Sprite full backup, you can also set it up to backup SD card.
......... or SPB Backup. Serves me excellent .
BTW: Question to the Masterminds here: what would be the EXACT procedures to make a backup in a way that the entire ROM/RAM/mSD-Card can be backed up, so that in case I have to buy a new HD2 it can be reflashed with my exact ROM-version + rest that works so flawless ?

regarding the rom, none, you simply need to save the nbh for rom and radio somewhere and flash them again after you buy the new hd2, then restore with a sprite backup or similar over the same rom/radio
has anyone done a full restore using sprite? I am considering trying a cooked rom but I would like to know if I can restore back to a stock rom just in case.

A full backup should only be reapplied to the exact same ROM it was made on.

- Make a full backup of the old device with SPB backup as you have it
- Download and flash the same ROM you had on the old device, or flash it from the local copy you obviously kept for that exact reason in case the cook somehow decided to take it offline
- Take microSD card from old device and put in new one
- Restore backup on new device
There you are...
Thanks for those program suggestions however I'd rather copy half a dozen files/folders over to my backup device than spend $20 on a program that does more or less the same thing.
I'm looking to find out the file locations of the stocks, registry, weather locations, time zones ertc not backed up by the 'my phone' application. Does anyone know which files hold this information? In particular I did a google search and despite being a master at it I couldn't find any info on the location of the system registry so does anyone know where that is? I found that CeRegEditor failed to restore the registry backup when I needed it to.
thanks
