New ROM XDA II - 2 little Qs! - Sprite & Re-lock danger? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi!
If I install the new o2 Rom can I then just restore a complete backup of my device made with Sprite Backup running on the old Rom?
My apologies if that question betrays terrible ignorance!
Second question - will installing the new Rom re-lock the sim to o2?
Many thanks
Conor

The phone will remain unlocked, I dont know about sprite backup because I stopped using it after it corrupted my sms on restore and locked down my sim so I couldnt receive sms.

Don't ever restore any part of the Inbox on Windows Mobile 2003. It will always become corrupt... especially the SMS account! Activesync Backup/Restore, xBackup, Sprite Backup... none will restore the Inbox accounts properly.

After a ROM upgrade , don't restore from a complete backup ... reinstall properly your softs ...
For the SIM , after upgrade, mine is always free

Dont backup/restore SMS messages when you update the system

I made the back of my all database incl. SMS and email accounts, with the program Pocket Backup Plus.
Then I updated the system to the 4.00.11 (also testes 4.0016) from 4.00.05.
After that I restored SMS database (the porccess was made without errors or any special message, everything seems ok) but:
I can send the SMS but I cannot receive the SMS any more!!!!!
No way.
After the hard-reset (fresh 4.00.16 ROM) all started to work OK. I can send and I see received SMS sound alerts. Of course in this version of ROM the device is not wakeing-up if SMS received, only sound alert is.
I can verify that the above info is true.
Ever since I've upgraded my T-Mo xda to WM2003, the restored SMS database affect the receipt of new SMS.
I have flashed my ROM more than 16 times with all released and many cooked variants of the WM2003, from the original Ozone beta to the latest T-Mo .16 version. In all cases, if you use Pocket Backup Plus to restore, make sure to UNCHECK the restore of the email databases, if you still want to receive SMS's.
Apparently something that the Sprite Backup restores, screws up the SMS database and all new SMS get lost or stuck somewhere in your phone, although the network operator thinks that the message is sent to your phone sucessfully.
Yes my friends, i've mentioned this in a previous post. It doesnt matter which ROM versions you change to any backup useing Pocket Backup will corrupt the XDAs mail databases. $hit happens!!
On the other hand does anybody know of backup software which will backup SMS and mail databases?

SMS reception problem

Hello,
I have just returned account to me that for some time, I do not receive any more the sms which are sent to me. On the other hand, those which I send arrive well at destination.
Impossible to find since when... nor after which installation... But SMS sends it functioned!!!
I have just made a test to validate the SIM cards, by crossing 2 SIM cards :
The SIM card of my QTEK receives the sms on a "traditional" mobil phone, and the SIM card which received the SMS does not receive them on the QTEK ===> problem with QTEK (SPV M1000).
Would somebody have an idea? Something to check? ... or better: somebody has a solution ?
ROM : 1.58.00FRA
Radio : 1.07.00
ext ROM : 1.58.06
Thank you for help.
My bet would be that you restored from a backup made by Sprite Backup just before the SMS failures bagan. Correct?
If so, it is a well-known bug in Sprite Backup. To fix it you will have to Hard-Reset your device and restore everything EXCEPT your inboxes.
The new version (3.0) of Sprite Backup has solved this problem.
HTH!
Hello BRosenow,
I think you'r right. The problem began after a retore with sprite backup.
As you it advised it I have just made a backup, then a restore without the inbox of sms... but the problem is always the same one!
Thank's
I believe I had to restore without ANY inboxes. HR again and then make sure you can still receive SMS, then restore everything except email and again verify that SMS works.
If you do a search in this forum for Sprite Backup, you may get additional suggestions.
Thank you very much BRosenow, i try all your solutions ...
Hi,
I restored my sprite backup without any inboxes ... and now it's OK ....
i can receive and send SMS without problem !
I would like really to thank you BRosenow.
It is entirely my pleasure. I'm glad I could help!
If you purchased Sprite Backup, you should be able to download ver. 3 and use your existing registration number to authorize it. Ver. 3 does backup and restore your Inboxes correctly.
Still thank you for your advice... which I will take like the precedents!!!

restoring backup after ROM upgrade

I have just upgraded my ROM from 1.60 to 1.72 , on my XDA II, I have all my previous files stored on my PC via Sprite Backup. If I restored the files on my XDAII will that make it crash or do it any harm. Please note that I upped my ROM from 1.60 to 1.72 as my XDA II had stopped sending SMS's ( I didn't investigate the matter much, but it could have been an uninstallation spree that I periodically go into to speed up my XDAII)
Cheers
Dr RAM
pretty sure activesync backups dont work
guess one could use a STG editor to get the stuff one wanted out from the activesync backup
personaly i just sync with outlook and get my contacts and stuff
copy everything from the old pocketpc_my documents to the new partnership
and check the programs i want reinstalled from the activesync menu
not sure about if xbackup and spirite backup will restore across rom versions though

Looking for a WM6 based rom

Hi all,
First, sorry for english mistakes but i'm french.
I had WM6 when i bought my polaris and i decided to go on a WM6.1, i backuped my contacts and all with SpriteBackup when i was under WM6.
I applied HardSPL and then got the rom based on WM6.1, all is ok. My polaris boot perfectly, the rom is stable. But my probleme is that i reinstal then SpriteBackup to recover the backup i made before to readd my contacts. The installation is ok, but when i click on "Restaurer" it appears a popup on which is displayed "Authorization exigee oiyr executer sprite backup"
Somebody know how can i recover my contacts ???
Can i get an other WM6 based rom just to recover my contact an syncronize with outlook before getting back to my new WM6.1 rom ?

if you go to the thread above you will find most of the OEM roms, (which are wm6)
good luck
Use PIMBackup 2.8 to only backup contacts, tasks, sms and thelike.
Use SPB, Sprite or any other backup tool to create an "image" of your device, in case it fails and you want to restore the previous state.

flashed diamond, now where is my backup

Hi, guys,
I managed to flash my TD with the latest switft rom, and it rocks!... more ram, more speed.
Only problem is the original telstra rom came with some backup software (not sure what it was -sprite? , as I pretty much flashed it straight away).
Is there anywhere I can download and install the htc backup utility?
Cheers, and sorry if it's been posted before, but a few searches returned nothing.
Oh, and the HTC.com/au website does not seem to be sending registration authentication emails for some reason.
Thanks, stevo.
Hello,
The app is on the CD-ROM delivered with your phone.
You don't need a serial with it ...
but it is not recommended to backup and restore on a different rom. Unless u wanna backup then do a hard reset and restore on the same rom. Use PIM BACKUP for personal data like contacts, appointments, call history etc.
yea, just to backup on the same rom.
found it on the cd cheers.
