I recently setup Activesync to sync files but i really only wanted it to sync a single Word Document file in My Documents on my Vario.
When it syncs it syncs the whole of the My Documents folder, which is crap cos this contains all my camera photos and videos and I dont want that. is there a way to just do files you want.
I managed to delete the files on my PC and it removed them on my Vario!
Also any new files that appear in My Documents on my Vario get automatically synced!
TIA
Doug
That would be difficult. What I suggest would be to move your not-wanting-to-syn files to your storage card or some folder in your root (e.g. not in the My Documents). Yeah, that would cause problems with many of your applications as it will look for My Document first and you would have to go and find your customized folder.
Anyway, you can try this (I didn't try it before). Create a shortcut in your My Documents that point to another folder where you keep all your real files, so that if your app open My Document, it would be easy for you to find that folder. But, still any photo taken by your camera will be still in My Document.
Anyway, there isn't much harm syncing all files. I mean, as long as the files are not changed, the isn't much time consumed in synching them. Better just leave them as they are

The screen on my Samsung Focus no longer works however the rest of the phone works as I am able to place calls using the bluetooth in my car. However I have since picked up an HTC One X but I am at a loss on how to get to my contacts. I do not see any of my contacts on the windows live ID I used to set up the phone nothing seems to have backed up anywhere but they are on my phone somewhere since I can place a call using name recognition in my car.
so I guess I have 2 questions.
Is there something i'm missing within the Zune software to backup the entire phone like Itunes has?
Is there a way I can access the internal storage via my computer to fish out the contacts in my phonebook?
If anyone is able to help you'd lower my blood pressure and prolong my life. Thank You.
do you have a "sim card" if so all your contacts are in it!
Had 2 different places read the sim card. They said there's nothing on it. It's the first thing I tried.
Contacts are on the phone, unless you've specified you want them back-up'd somewhere else, online. I usually use either Outlook account or Gmail to sync my contacts. The contacts on the SIM are retrieved TO the phone, not saved TO the SIM (Settings, People, Import SIM contacts).
One way I see you could backup your contacts this is to get these 2 files from the phone:
"store.vol" and "PimIndex.vol"
These contain the SMS and the contacts.
For that, mandatory reads: this thread and this thread
You could explore the phone with Touch Explorer, but depends on too many things if it will work...
Another idea is to do it "blindly" with 2 phones: yours and another Focus side-by-side and trying to copy exactly where to tap...
There might be an app on Marketplace that backups automatically on skydrive. But you'd have to search for such.
Good luck mate.
So I basically ran into this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477876
I want to transfer my photos from my previous device to the nexus 4, keeping the proper date, but that doesn't seem to be possible apparently. Anyone got a workaround specifically for the n4? What has worked for you so far? I tried adb and Local Sync but no luck with either.
(Also I haven't gone the dropbox route yet, but I'd like to think there's an alternative to upload gbs of photos to dropbox only to download them back just to transfer photos to the phone)
Funny, not even if downloaded from dropbox the date is preserved, at least in my case. Seriously. This is driving me nuts.

I had this same issue and was equally frustrated. I was able to get the proper timestamps by installing a ssh server and copying the files over ssh with the preserve flags. I had the best luck with sshdroid app as the server.

Thanks for the tip, I'm getting an error saying the upload of the file was successful, but permission to change the timestamp was denied, using SSHDroid on the phone and WinSCP on my laptop. Do I need to be rooted? I didn't really want to root the phone just yet
Still nothing. I tried this app which sounded promising, but the timestamps refuse to give in. This is terribly frustrating, any ideas, anyone?
Okay, so it's confirmed: it's impossible to do this without root on the nexus 4 (with root however forcing the timestamps via SSH or the Photo Date Correction app should work)
See here and here for more info. I won't root for now myself, but I guess I eventually will if Google doesn't react to the bug report.
Buy a Galaxy S2. It has dedicated partition for internal sdcard, so allows you to use Mass Storage Mode, which is not the case for newer devices (S3 and up).
Another possible option (not tested), is to transfer files via FTP.
So I finally got the device where I wanted it yesterday. Today I notice that my available space is already down to 5gb without me putting much on the phone. After digging around, I found that there is a folder called documentsync that holds 2gb of my dropbox files and it seems to be putting more on there as I type. I think this is causing my phone to die a quick death as it was burning batteries on standby. Anyone have this problem?

I had the same problem. I can't believe that Samsung has this turned on by default. Go to settings > accounts > cloud and turn off Document Sync. This will then remove all the content from your device.
I never use Samsung 's implementation of Dropbox sync. It is poorly done and uses internal storage.
3rd party apps do a better job in folder to folder syncing with more controls over the directory location and sync schedules.

Yup, my god. After installing my apps and configuring my phone, I saw that the disk space was down to around 3GB. It made no sense, and I started cursing the pre-installed S4 software like everyone else. I removed stuff with Titanium, and even directly using a root folder browser, and I pray I didn't break anything. The next day, I finally noticed that "DocumentSync" folder and had no idea what it was, except obviously its directory structure matched my Dropbox account. I still couldn't find any info, so I simply deleted it. Somehow, I think I'm lucky that I didn't delete all my Dropbox content. After reading this thread, I check the setting and it was already turned off, so I have no idea how that happened (perhaps when I deleted that folder). Really stupid of them to background sync several gigabytes of data on you by default with no warning.
In fact, the first day after getting my phone, I got a warning that my disk space had been filled up. It completely made no sense, so I unlinked and re-linked my cloud apps, and cursed the one that's in beta that I assumed was at fault and then got all paranoid about it. All those complaints about the S4 are pretty much over minor annoyances, but this default stealth auto-sync makes it look like your phone is completely messed up. I have to say it's the phone's biggest hiccup. But even though it's easily fixed, it caused quite a bit of chaos and worry on my part, and I hope I didn't damage anything while trying to fix it.
I want to delete the folder but is it supposed to delete the files in your Dropbox account? I don't want to risk losing the files.

I would make a backup before deleting just to be sure
Probably a good idea

Thanks. I didn't get back to reading this forum until. I simply disconnected the dropbox account, disable sync, then reconnect my account. That had to be the dumbest default setting ever.

Yesterday I just delete this documentsync folder. DON'T DO THIS!!!! It have delete all the documents files Inside my dropbox account. Turn this option off in setting before delete anything or you will lose them.
Fortunately, the dropbox site offer a restore file option (the trash icon on top) . Whitout this, I had loose so much valuables files.
Hi guys,
my queries are similar. I really want a way to sync files from my PC with my Note 3. My required files are all documents (docx, xlsx, pdf, txt etc) I’m not looking for music video syncs. I use many important docs and excels and I want them all 100% updated on my phone all time so that I can use them anywhere.
I’m not a dropbox fan and used it very less in past but after getting note 3 I realize there have less ways to sync and store files in external memory. I wanted them all to store in external card (32gb) as many files but I doesn’t. Still internal is fine. I started use Dropbox app and tried the stock file manager dropbox option. What happened, in the initial setup it downloaded all files in internal memory DocumentSync folder but then when I started changing those files, it did not updated those over dropbox. Make sure I was editing DocumentSync folders raw files by Polaris Office, not from dropbox application or either the file manager home screen dropbox icon shortcut as both of them downloading each files before editing. As these didn’t work, like you all I remove this and disable this option.
But as I always wanted all these dropbox files locally, even when offline/no network I can update/read those files. So can anyone tell me the purpose of DocumentSync folders local files? Also any way the Samsungs optional dropbox or dropbox app can store all in external memory card? I really don’t want this to way to download each files before reading/editing (due to slower internet).
Please advice, thanks in advance!

Would this app be of use to you? You can store the files locally, then set the file to sync with your dropbox account and it be set up as a two-way sync between phone and dropbox and desktop/tablet/laptop/etc and dropbox.

I checked this apps and few similar like this before but none of them could store in external memory, so no help. But DropSync does, but problem is it stores files in external memory /Android/data/com.ttxapps.dropsync/files which is hard to navigate all time and then the free version only allows one folder to sync, no sub directories. And I’ve all documents set under separate directories. And I do not purchase apps . So didn’t found any other helpful app.
Update:
Yesterday again I linked to the My File Dropbox extinction, and play with it little bit and test few. Earlier I somehow saw it wasn’t correctly, not updating, not syncing properly etc so I removed it. But yesterday I only made Doc Sync, it downloaded all doc files and I did some test by file changes and it syncing instantly. I was changing in raw file in DocumentSync folder.
The only issue I found is if new files added and existing files deleted in dropbox its not immediately doing the same in that folder. Its taking time, and sometime long time. But if I disconnect and reconnect wifi, the changes appearing immediately, most probably this is due to as it set to sync over wifi only.
But its really great for me, as I can get all docs raw files even if no network and don’t have to download each time. But its not working very smoothly and its storing files internal memory but as my all docs are around 5mb no not a big issues. But I would love to get it in external memory. Overall this works great for me also no extra app require. But Samsung should make a way to sync all files locally.
Pretty Noob parent here of a child that owns a kid's kindle fire. I have a problem that I really need some help with or at least to know if its impossible. My Amazon account got compromised and teh reps there advised me to logout of all Amazon accounts. Doing this put my child's kids edition kindle into a very odd state and I can't recover their files. My child spent COVID with her sister using the kindle to make movies together and they have a lot of sentimental value to her. I'm trying to be superdad and recover them but I've run into some issues. I would really, really appreciate any help you could give me on this issue as Amazon is telling me the only option is to factory reset and lose all the video files.
- When I logged out of all devices it logged out the main adult account. Problem appears to be that a kids account is on a subscription paid for by an adult account. When the adult account was severed it made the kids account inaccessible. When I try to log in to the kids account I get an error message telling me to contact Amazon. I did contact them and got escalated to a pretty awesome manager who spent an hour trying all kinds of work arounds - nothing worked.
- I can't directly access the movie files on the kids account as they are under her account and it can't be logged in. I can see the files from the file manager but can't move them. They are located on the device storage, not on the SD Card.
I have a kIndle 8 8th edition running software version 7.3.2.4.
Here is what I've found so far:
Using the main adult account I can see the images from the kids account within my "images" folder. However the movies are represented as jpg images. It seems like there is a weird permissions error or something similar that lets me see the jpgs but not the movies?
I have set the kindle up to work with USB as a file transfer. When I connect the kindle to my PC I do not see any device folders, just the SDcard folders. The folder manager shows several gbs are being used but when I scan each folder (especially DCIM) they are all empty.
I tried connecting the device to my PC via BT. I was able to transfer the photos but the movies all fail. I tried connecting google drive and other cloud backups but could not remove the videos. It said "transfer failed".
Steps taken so far using android rooting software:
- DL'd the adb files and ran from terminal. I got an error message when I tried to run the root command about not being able to root a production model.
- I found the kindle tool kit software and DL'd and ran.
- I tried to to use the "pull" tool to copy the main directory "Current Directory: /" but it says "Permission denied" under the files in directory section.
I see in "manual application management" that I could delete "Amazon Kids" which it says would "break" the kids account. Would "breaking" it mean changing it into a regular account?
