Found this small app to turn Promiscuous Mode for tnetwln based network wifi cards so you can scan wifi packets with a ppc. Ideal for analyzing your own home or business wifi
I made it a cab file and added a shortcut in Programs.
thanks man.
what does it do? specificaly, does it connect to secured routers? or does it just make you invisible/anonimous?
Promiscuous Mode is making your wifi card go into monitor mode scanning all the channels to capture certain data packets, Used with the right software you can test your home or business wifi security but please remember that it is a federal offence in most country's to use this on wifi networks that don,t belong to yourself
Have a read here for more info and help how to use these devices:
Code:
www.aircrack-ng.org/
Error's when runing app
WHen I run the Promiscous App, and get the following errors:
CCTL
Cannot find SDIO TNETWLN.DLL
CCTL
Cannt activate CCTL device!
I am running on a HTC Hermes (Att 8525) with Windows mobile 6.
How do I determine the type of network card I have?
Thanks.
Really, really thanks for it, it's just what i was looking for.
Thanks again.
Does it work on Prophet?
nice what pocket pcs have tnetwln network cards in them?
anything for touch HD?? - TiwlnapiCE.dll
bump what do i need to save all the traffic into a .cap file? and what pdas have tnewwln based cards?
i don't know the spec of al ppc but this is for the tnetwln found in the kaiser but also other mobiles To collect packets use airscanner mobile sniffer or sniffi see post #1 for links to aircrack forum

promiscuous mode and monitor mode are 2 different things.
Whether there is something similar for jaguarGSP based network wifi cards?

Hi all,
Could someone please tell me why I can connet to my wireless network at home, but I can't view any web pages or download any emails on my XDA II!!
Any help would be greatly recieved!!
Cheers Guys
Works fine for me mate..
Things to check.
1) XDAII Has an ip address assigned to it within the correct subnet for your home wifi.
2) XDAII Has the correct default gateway configured which will either be your wireless access router, or another type of router you have that provides internet access.
3) That your XDAII can see the network available to it through the start, setting, connections, connections, advanced, network card bit. Make sure that you actually tell it to connect to your network too. If you can't see it and you are sure the wifi card is installed ok, make sure that you have enabled SSID broadcast on your WAP.
Let us know how you get on.
Rgds,
Rob.
rob,
what do you mean, "make sure you have sidd enabled on you wap" ??
i have beeb trying to get this to work for days..
lmk m8
Zetex
He means..
He means that your Wireless accesspoint should have broadcast SSID enabled. If you have not intentionaly disabled it, it is most likely that it is enabled and thus not the issue. Is your wireless WEP encrypted? If it is, did the Pocketpc ask you specifically for the WEP encryption key when it found your network?

I am using a XDA II. Having received a faulty 'backpack', now replaced, I am still trying to get it to connect through a Sandisk CF Wi-Fi card to a D-Link 900+ AP hanging off an Intel router and my Linux server. In desperation I connected the CF card through a PCMICA adaptor into my notebook. After tweaking the 900+ AP (using v. 2.61 firmware), I found that it liked 64kb WEP, SSID on, Channel 11, Infrastructure (not Ad Hoc), and left on fully automatic so D-Link 650 Wi-Fi card in my notebook runs at 22 Mbps, and the Sandisk card at 11 Mbps.
But does it run in the XDA II you ask? Nope! I think that Sandisk's software leaves a lot to be desired. I am using vxIPConfig and vxUtil tools to see what is what ... but to no effect. I would gladly flick the Sandisk card now I know their software is lacking.
Any clues from other users?
Driving me nuts
Sorry not to actually come up with answers, but I thought you might gather some comfort from the fact that my XDA II/Sandisk combo is driving me nuts too. You are not alone....!
First thing I did was remove the pre-installed Socket wifi s/w and install the Sandisk stuff, but although my XDA can happily see my network, it will not log on no matter what I seem to do.
Am going to review some of the other helpful posts here and try the tips and will report back......!

The CD-ROM that came with mine seems to have been designed for WinCE, and not Mobile Windows 2003 for the PPC. As a result I cannot get rid of the Sandisk 128M+WiFi CompactFlash Card settings from the 'Configure Network Adaptors' area. I have to go in via my PC and ActiveSync (3.7) and rename the two offending .dll files before the CD-ROM software removes the drivers. I manually delete the renamed .dll.old files from the XDA II.
Sandisk seem pretty useless. I let them know of these problems and the link they gave me was to the straight wireless LAN card ... That didn't work, so go figure!
I am told the Sockets drivers out of the UK are better (for basically the same card), however, their FTP site does not work .. some say it hasn't worked since April 2004. More useless information, except that their docs. leave Sandisk for dead!
I keep wondering what the so-called 'Zero Configuration' tools that are supposed to be part of Mobile Windows 2003 actually do? I just can't see why the Sandisk card works with my D-Link DWL-900AP+ (802.11b/g) and with my ancient Airport access points on my notebook, but not on the XDA II on the rare occasions that I get the blinking green light (very rare and I don't know why???). <sigh!>
hi i need a wifi finder tool wich works together with the spectec wifi card
If you need a util that can sniff the network for hidden APs, I don't believe it is possible to put the card into promiscuous mode under any version of Windows Mobile.
Alternatively try Mini Stumbler from www.netstumbler.org or Boingo from www.boingo.com
If you're just after two nice little apps to pick up Wifi networks, try Hitchhiker and WifiGraph... I have them, and use them occasionally (just with my XDA 2i's internal Wifi transceiver), they work pretty well.
A shame that the XDA's actual support for anything other than a completely openly-configured Access Point is shocking (if it has WEP, it can't connect, if it has WPA, it can't connect, if it has its SSID hidden, you can't connect, even if you know what it is... Ridiculous)...
... The programs are pretty good, though.
It would be really neat to be able to put my Wizard into 'host' mode on the wifi, and share my EDGE access out to wifi clients nearby. It'd be like having my own wifi hotspot in my pocket.
Is this possible?
this post and most others like them gets ignored by most of this forum.
Or so it seems from my month on and off reading.
Ofcoarse this is possible?
will software or service agreements allow it? most likly not.

I wonder why, I think its a nice thing to have, and there exists AP with 3g cards like LINKSYS WRT54G3G
/L
with software it would be possible i think
just a matter of making the device rount
the wifi to the connection
but edge and even 3g is not really fast enough to share with anybody without comming down to a crawl
which is prob why there have been no demand and so
no developing for the field
gprs/edge > BT > PC >WiFi > WLAN
easy to do, conect to data service throught your computer with BT or USB then in settings share internet connection (via Wifi) with other users.

another painfull way, but may work for u.
I think it has something to do either with no one caring/caring about terms of service possibly.
I've been searching for over an hour with no luck.
Is there a sniffer for WM that will allow you to capture packets from the 3G interface?
I see that there are heaps of sniffers out there for wifi, and I have been using Etherel on my network to try to sort out some VoIP issues.
I want to see if what I see when I sniff the wifi packets would be the same over 3G. If I have the same problems then it might be the Internet Calling modules in WM6 and nothing to do with the network.
Thanks,
Baggy
I´m also searching for a a network logger for 2G/3G.
Me too...
think the problem is that with wifi the pda have alot of control
but with phone related things it's don in a different module
and i dont think the pda where software run wild
have much access under the skirt of the cellphone part
could be that it's in large a blackbox which handle much of the osi layer
Thks Rudegar...
... and what a PPC Explorer debugger?, exists?
Best Regards.
i don't know if it's ok what I'm saying here, but I'll give it a try...
I have internet on my mobile, but mostly I live from open wifi conections.
in my house there is only one conection and it's secured. because i download aplications and stuff when I'm home this makes me want to conect to this wifi. is there a method to do it? if it's the one that involves me asking people, i did some searching and nothing...
Connecting to secured wifi is no problem... unless, and i assume this to be the case, it's not your WiFi or you don't have the passkeys?
There are no effective WiFi sniffers / packet analyzers on android to speak of. Those tools have not been ported due to the fact that the drivers created for the wireless chipsets do not support monitor mode. A custom driver would have to be written before porting these tools can have any usefull outcome.
