New BIG button dialer craze? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Just noticed ALOT of the custom dialers esp the diamond replicas use huge buttons, the only oem style buttons i was able to find were from poorlyducks. Not sure if the diamond actually uses huge buttons, or users just prefer it that way.

Just a few words xboxhaxorz, big fat assed thumbs I'm guilty myself.

Yeah, I noticed this too. I guess we all prefer usability of the phone over aesthetics.
For the TyTnII, I highly recommended using Minimal Dialer

I love Minimal Dialer. Makes my phone look that much slicker.

ill admit i got some tiny digits, guess lots of others are the exact opposite

[REQ]Camera from Rhodium or Topaz (Touch Pro 2 or Diamond 2)[REQ]

Hello,
My question is... can anyone port the camera from the Touch Pro 2 or Diamond 2, cause I saw in a video it his a nicer layout, and a on-screen button to take a picture... Looks better than the regular Fuze/Touch Pro camera on-screen buttons.
Easier said than done I'm afraid. They're utilizing the extra 160 pixels for that "Capture" button and the Rhodium also does not have a flash. This will be especially problematic for Touch Pro owners.
So it'll never happen?

I don't mean it will never happen, just more difficult. I'd personally love to see this ported to work on the Raphael/Diamond.

Some thoughts and opinions about TF3D please :)

Ive been thinking about TF3D and its negatives and positives about and want to see what you think and have to say
The "people" list, aka the tf3d contact list just plain sucks IMO, too damn big font for my taste, totaly nullifies the use of a big screen and I cant find the function to sort after company or use as the regular contact list can which makes it totally usable for me :/
The SMS function that is combined with the user is good in someways but I hardly ever use it, also way too big, is it just me that have good eyesight or is everything with TF3D just damn big? IMO we have a big screen to see lots of stuff, not just make them bigger and prettier... >_<
The built in music player in tf3d is pretty.. but PocketPlayer just pwnz it totally IMO, so much better features and possibilites with PP, one of the first apps I bought when I got my Touch HD
That are the negatives I come to think of now, I know there are more... but TF3D becomes better and better so maybe some of it will not be negative for me
Positive stuff is ofcourse that its pretty, smooth easy to use interface, beats most other standard WM GUIs, atleast all I have tried
There are no GUIs for WM that is more like Android? I dont know much about Android phones but what from I have seen it really seems more customizable and you can move to different desktops with different wallpapers and different functions and apps?

New sense

That's just a task manager. There's a skinable one for WM whose name I can't remember right now, but it's been discussed on this forum recently. Since it's skinable, you can make it look however you wish.
but
I look at mobile reviw thats part of new sense for android
The new version of HTC Sense features several nice touches - a more detailed screen with contact's personal information and his activities, plus the new Sense's main attraction, new screen transition system.
I don't know how it's implemented on Windows Mobile phones yet, but on Android it works like this. What you are at the home screen, pressing the Home button calls the Screen menu allowing you to pick the one you need, which is pretty convenient, but there is one flaw to it. The phones that were featured at HTC's MWC booth made that window pop-up only when we pressed the button while staring at the Home screen. If we happened to be looking at Music, Weather or any other section of the phone, punching the Home key got us back to the Home Screen and that was it. I feel like this feature must work in any place around the UI, and I hope that it will.
from mobile review MWC2010. HTC
taskfacade
Android home screens are customizable and can only be switched one by one which is why the helicopter view might be more important. You can fly with the slider bar on WM Sense so it makes it less useful - plus it'll be difficult to get all our tabs in that Expose-esque view

Actually that's not a task manager, thats the new pinch to zoom homescreen that zooms out to let you select the home screen. It's called leap, see demonstration here

That will never come to the HD2.
Get a Desire.

But that's such a massive downgrade.
Lose 0.6" off your screen size, lose WinMo6.5.3 (which is better than Android imo), and lose your NA 3G coverage (assuming you're rocking a T9193).
I will say that at least HTC finally smartened up and started putting flashes in their phones. My buddy has an HTC Hero and the only complaint he has about it is no flash.
To be honest, I ordered one and will sell my HD2. I lose 0.6" screen size and one camera LED, but I gain Android.
Since I'm in Europe, I don't lose 3G.
I've used Android on an old Samsung phone for some time, and I discovered that I simply enjoy using it.
Despite that this phone is awfully slow and has a very small 3.2" screen, I find the experience to be much better than the one I have with my HD2.
Thus, I'm getting a Desire.
(I'd buy a Samsung Galaxy S with 4" screen, but I want at least one LED for the camera: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/samsung-announces-galaxy-s-android-smartphone/)

Same thing.
Taskfacade has nothing to do with that... except that it looks similar, but totally different functionality.

the sony ericsson answer to multitouch. Nice!

if ur impatient fast forward to 1:16
i'm pretty sure this is gonna be implemented in the software upgrade for the X10.
fairly nice way to get around pinch to zoom i think
wont be missing pinch to zoom methinks
nice. i honestly couldn't give a ****e if multi was on x10 or not. If it did, that'd be great, but if not, meh. Don't understand the people that would pass on this phone just because it doesn't have multitouch.
yea me too, but zooming on the browser and google maps was getting a bit irritating for me. although downloading opera solves this issue with the "double tap" feature.
i just thought i should post this so those who lack of multi touch IS an issue might reconsider.
Oooh. That looks great! Hopefully that gallery will find it's way in to the standard X10 when 2.1 goes live!
Zooming is not a problem but multitouch will be required by games most likely.
This will affect gamers but for somebody else the missing MT it shouldn't be a problem.
Having gestures all over the phone will help a lot.
The only place that multitouch is really useful is the onscreen keyboard (especially for those who type fast, there'll be lest missed inputs)

its never been a problem for me even on a single touch resistive screen. also- i hate full qwerty keyboards on phones. they're too cramped and u need 2 hands most of the time. i use T9 pad (i downloaded the HTC_IME)
I use the HTC_IME as well and I have 0 missed keys Typed a long post earlier today.

Not a problem for me either. And I used Fingerkeyboard on my X1 before I got my X10.
Any confirmation that this is coming to the X10? The video shows the X10 Mini.

The biggest differences between 1.6 & 2.1 (Screenshots)

Have tried and compare my and a friends screenhots of the 2 different Android versions (1.6 & 2.1)
The impressive change in my eyes is enough the calculator
More screenshots here.
Impressive
one of the differences is the calling screen, I liked the 2.1's where you can easily put on speaker or do other stuff
Aw, I didn't even realise the calculator changed. I liked it before.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Aw, would of been nice if they based the calculator more on the dialer, then i'd like it more.
The 1.6 one looks um "old" while the 2.1 one looks sorta out of place for a calculator haha.
The 1.6 slide-to-unlock wasn't that bad, let alone the sliding lag..Actually it was different from the usual slide locks/unlocks but the lag was awful so I prefer the 2.1 one!

tip for the day
you can actually continue to slide unlock in the same pattern as 1.6, you do not have to use the slide across the screen as indicated on the lockscreen.
see screenshot and try to unlock as shown with the red arrow (ie - the old way)
it still works

Thats pretty cool! It was easier to slide the old one. More ergonomic if that's the right word for it.

is good hey
btw - love the Mitch Hedberg quote! shame he's gone, he was brilliant
of corse the arch slide works..
the screen dose not track that your finger has left where the slider is but still tracks your finger move to the right and thus it unlocks
ya .. UI looks more elegant and rich.. and particualrly the android linked UI like drop downs , icons .. and other menu stuff and all looks a lot better
Love the new calculator. i can actually use it now without pressing every key at once!!

Are you serious?
How have you managed to do anything on the X10? Most actions require much more focused presses (eg. text messaging)
I dislike the thicker notification bar at the top, I don't see any viable reason to make it more like the stock size.
Cool, anybody got any screengrabs of the x10 mini post update?
