Have tried and compare my and a friends screenhots of the 2 different Android versions (1.6 & 2.1)
The impressive change in my eyes is enough the calculator
More screenshots here.
Impressive
one of the differences is the calling screen, I liked the 2.1's where you can easily put on speaker or do other stuff
Aw, I didn't even realise the calculator changed. I liked it before.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Aw, would of been nice if they based the calculator more on the dialer, then i'd like it more.
The 1.6 one looks um "old" while the 2.1 one looks sorta out of place for a calculator haha.
The 1.6 slide-to-unlock wasn't that bad, let alone the sliding lag..Actually it was different from the usual slide locks/unlocks but the lag was awful so I prefer the 2.1 one!

tip for the day
you can actually continue to slide unlock in the same pattern as 1.6, you do not have to use the slide across the screen as indicated on the lockscreen.
see screenshot and try to unlock as shown with the red arrow (ie - the old way)
it still works

Thats pretty cool! It was easier to slide the old one. More ergonomic if that's the right word for it.

is good hey
btw - love the Mitch Hedberg quote! shame he's gone, he was brilliant
of corse the arch slide works..
the screen dose not track that your finger has left where the slider is but still tracks your finger move to the right and thus it unlocks
ya .. UI looks more elegant and rich.. and particualrly the android linked UI like drop downs , icons .. and other menu stuff and all looks a lot better
Love the new calculator. i can actually use it now without pressing every key at once!!

Are you serious?
How have you managed to do anything on the X10? Most actions require much more focused presses (eg. text messaging)
I dislike the thicker notification bar at the top, I don't see any viable reason to make it more like the stock size.
Cool, anybody got any screengrabs of the x10 mini post update?

I haven't really seen much mentioned about it, so maybe I'm more bothered by it than you guys, but the newest Hero leak's rosie is missing the ability to grab the thing at the bottom and quickly flip through all the screens. Seems kinda ironic to start calling it TouchFLO after you take out the part that makes it touch flow!
To me, that's one of the things that made it so sweet. With out it, its just another 7 screen home (minus the fact that you get the widgets with it and all). Using 6 swipes to flip through your home is annoying as hell.
But that aside, it still is (for the most part) the same speed as the beta version (when ported to the G1, that is), and still has no landscape mode. Taking those in to consideration, you basically have the same thing, but with one less feature.
HTC you f'ed up.
Sorry, I needed to rant.
I also find my self missing that feature.
Oh well, you can't have everything.
lol only thing I miss is the reliability of all other ROM's not Rosie related....
I think JACHero 2.3.3 is the best ROM which is out atm.
Rosie is useable, and really, I never used this thing at the bottom, it was too fast.
I only use 3 of the 7 hoemscreen:
The middle one for icons and 2 toogles.
Middle-left for WeatherWidget
Middle-right for Bookmarks widget.
That's all. And with this configuration, Rosie works really fluently.

That's just a task manager. There's a skinable one for WM whose name I can't remember right now, but it's been discussed on this forum recently. Since it's skinable, you can make it look however you wish.
but
I look at mobile reviw thats part of new sense for android
The new version of HTC Sense features several nice touches - a more detailed screen with contact's personal information and his activities, plus the new Sense's main attraction, new screen transition system.
I don't know how it's implemented on Windows Mobile phones yet, but on Android it works like this. What you are at the home screen, pressing the Home button calls the Screen menu allowing you to pick the one you need, which is pretty convenient, but there is one flaw to it. The phones that were featured at HTC's MWC booth made that window pop-up only when we pressed the button while staring at the Home screen. If we happened to be looking at Music, Weather or any other section of the phone, punching the Home key got us back to the Home Screen and that was it. I feel like this feature must work in any place around the UI, and I hope that it will.

Android home screens are customizable and can only be switched one by one which is why the helicopter view might be more important. You can fly with the slider bar on WM Sense so it makes it less useful - plus it'll be difficult to get all our tabs in that Expose-esque view

But that's such a massive downgrade.
Lose 0.6" off your screen size, lose WinMo6.5.3 (which is better than Android imo), and lose your NA 3G coverage (assuming you're rocking a T9193).
I will say that at least HTC finally smartened up and started putting flashes in their phones. My buddy has an HTC Hero and the only complaint he has about it is no flash.
To be honest, I ordered one and will sell my HD2. I lose 0.6" screen size and one camera LED, but I gain Android.
Since I'm in Europe, I don't lose 3G.
I've used Android on an old Samsung phone for some time, and I discovered that I simply enjoy using it.
Despite that this phone is awfully slow and has a very small 3.2" screen, I find the experience to be much better than the one I have with my HD2.
Thus, I'm getting a Desire.
(I'd buy a Samsung Galaxy S with 4" screen, but I want at least one LED for the camera: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/samsung-announces-galaxy-s-android-smartphone/)

This include UI, settings, ease of access, apps.. any other thing you can think of..

1. Unlock screen: I liked the curved unlock better.
2. App Launcher Icon/Button: A Square Button! Seriously! That swipe-up bar was so neat and elegant. (and totally unlike any other android phone)
3. Thick Notification Bar: Again, I found the thin one much elegant.

Couldn't agree more! I would also list:
- Smaller icons (to fit more icons per page) that will be less finger-friendly
The notification bar on the X10 2.1 is thick like every other Android? Really? That's disappointing. I really like the thin bar.
yeah, I'll miss the curved unlock. I may play with it a little more before the update comes.

Curved unlock bar
slide up app drawer
thin notification bar
I wish they would keep those as is or at least provide settings to change them.
May be... Just may be. Xorrect me if i'm wrong.
In my opinion.... A smart phone should has OS. And in this case,it is called Android 2.1.
In other hand, it should has User Interface or User Experience. And this one is specially branded by phone manufacture. And SE is proud with its own style. This make difference between many brands of phone. And this is my personal reason why I like SE.
Hope, new 2.1 maintain notification and screen lock style.
[edited:]
Some changes to the interface, and there are so many improvement but some of them I really don't like. May be I just don't get ised to them or may be my personal reason.
Gunawan, GN Mutimedia & X10i
curved unlock works for unlocking screen and answering calls.. left to right...
give it a go
not sure if you can reverse it.. ie right to left.

Hi
I've got a Desire 2.2 and an x10 which has just updated to 2.1
I like the lock screen on the new x10 2.1
Anyone know if there is one like that available for the desire ?
Basically a lock screen showing my wallpaper, date & time (large) and have a slider at the bottom.
Slide left to right to unlock
Slide right to left to adjust the ringing volume.
When a call comes in and the phone is locked, you see who is calling and sliding left-> right answers, right -> left drops the call.
Anything like this for the desire... ideally free
Thanks

Oh I know, there very good reasons I jumped ship! This is a about the only feature I miss!
And the advantage of the screensaver, which doesn't have to be a battery drainer at all, is a customizable notification bar. A plain old LED doesn't really cut it!

i have an idea for a live wallpaper:
please feel free to make it/give suggestions
a whiteboard!
so, it would be a white background and you can just draw on it
it would be like a htc notes widget but for the whole home screens
what do you think?
AND it wouldnt use that much battery because it isnt very cpu intensive, doesnt use gps/camera/accelerometer/etc
+1. great idea!
LOL man you such a creative mind......best idea ever +10
it's a great idea, maybe it would be good to include a diffrent array n styles of boards too, like a blackboard and chalk, and a cork notice board, after you write something it could make it look like a paper note with a drawing pin in
I think it would be a better if this was a widget for an application of this type.
But, you had a great idea.
lol Nice action

Only problem I could see is, how would you differentiate between drawing on the whiteboard and a gesture, say switching between home screens?

You could use somthing simple like a double tap on the live wallpaper, this could bring up like a virtual pen or chalk, that would follow your finger as you draw, another double tap and the "pen" could disapear, and you would be free to use gestures, it would also be nice to wipe the screen (delete) with a shake like a etch-a-sketch

C'mon guys we have a smartphone! this shoudn't be a problem.
we could use the idea mentioned above or:
Tap and hold with one finger and switch between homescreens with another finger.
we also could use the functionality of the pinch to zoom -like we have on the stock DHD to show all home screens- to do some other simple command gestures.
but right now our problem is a developer, and that is why we are here on XDA
The idea is an intuitive one. The problem of swiping from one screen to the next could easily be overcome with this solution:
Notice how, when you have a widget on one screen, you tend to hold it and "push" it to the left or right. The same idea could be applied here. If you wish to move to left or right, just drwg finger across to the edge of the screen. This should also used in effect with the application of another concept introduced by a member a few posts up. The Live Wallpaper should be a clean slate of any colour desired. Clicking on a widget that comes with the LWP activates the board/marker tool. While in this "mode" touching the menu button brings up a window offering an assortment of options, eg pen size, colour etc. When out of this mode, swiping left right is just like normal. Also, the "state" of the LWP and widget can be preserved/saved. One final idea that comes to my mind is that rotating the device sideways while in drawing mode, rotates the home screen. However, all widgets should disappear, leaving us with just the paper, in effect.
Last but not least, I believe the OP should learn and develop this himself. It is an opportunity to nurture and grow an idea, build upon it and continue to improve it. It will help pass the time, and broaden your knowledge database. And you can maintain this thread, ask people for ideas etc. It will be fun. I hope I put my point(s) across
gr8 idea +5
