text messaging broken on XV6800? - Mogul, XV6800 General

I've got a stock XV6800 on Verizon that's suddenly developed a problem with text messaging. Basically it won't let me read or send text messages. I can see existing messages in the Inbox. But when I click on one of them and open it there's nothing shown. The To, Sent, Callback and body of the message is empty. Likewise when I hit reply (or try to compose a new message) the fields cannot be edited. What gives?
I've not loaded anything new on the phone for quite a while, nor have I tweaked any settings. I've made it a habit to load everything on a 2GB SD card anyway, but it fails to work even without the card being inserted. I've, of course, tried this after rebooting the phone (both by pressing the reset switch along with removing the battery, neither affected it).
I'd like to upgrade the ROM in it but would prefer to get this fixed before making matters possibly worse.

You either need to hard reset the phone, or update the rom.
A rom update wipes the phone and installs a brand new radio / OS. since what you have there is likely a software issue.. this will fix it.
I find DCD 3.2.5 way more stable than the stock rom.
If you update, PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS or you will be back here with major problems or a bricked phone.
If you follow the instructions.. it's hard to screw it up.
If you are unsure... Read the instructions, then make a list of what you PLAN to do and the order and method you'll use and either post it or PM me.. You should get an answer or feedback as to whether it's going to be the best way.

Text Message Reply on DCDs 2.2.x?

so i have been running dcds rom since the gps radio came out, upgraded 5 times, im currently on 2.2.1 (not enough motivation to get to 2.2.3). anyways it wasnt until today that i noticed a lot of texts are not sending out correctly. on stock ROM, there was a software that automatically resent the message or at least gave me the option. now, if my message says it fails to send, i can only click on okay, then copy the message out of the window, and resend it. anyone know where i can get the text retry software and if i do will it work with 6.1? if not, anyone know of any reg hacks or anything that will reenable automatic resending?

[H] Text Message Sending issue - Touch HD

Hi guys, ive been using htc touch hd since a year now and never faced this issue. Suddenly from last week im unable to send text message or reply. ive search all over and tried every trick mentioned here but no avail. im using the shipped rom no modifications. everything was working just fiine. the weird thing is that my message are sent if i make a call to any one...all those msgs sitting in outbox are sent then. my SMSC is correct. Please help me.
P.S. Ive also tried using other cell phones like nokia, diamond 2 etc and text messages seem to work fine with them...
Please anyone help me...
hello!
sorry mate i dont think there's much you can do, other than a hard reset. sounds annoying i know, but many us who flash new roms are used to doing it every week!
One thing you could do before this is just to download the latest network settings.
On WM6.5 (should be similar on 6.1) go to:
Start >> Settings >> Connection Setup
Chose your operator and download the settings, then soft reset.
Otherwise, looks like a HR
(to perform a hard reset, power off your device. then hold down both vol up and vol down, and press the power button. brings up a screen of instructions that tells you to press vol up to reset).
I would strongly recommend you look at a custom ROM - you can get so much extra functionality over stock, even if you stick to a 6.1 (fastest) ROM
I had this problem a while ago, i just cleared all of my texts inbox/sent/drafts/deleted then hard reset and its been fine since. FeX
Thanks guys for ur support...ive already done hard resets twice but the prb still there...im afraid to use a cooked rom bcoz it sounds too complicated for me and then ive heard it gets bricked if i do sumthing wrong...
just one question can i hard reset my cell back to shipped rom if i dont like a cooked rom...?? i guess this wud be my last option now to switch to cooked roms but there are so many i cant decide which one will be better for me.
Thanks
Bump...........
its not difficult to flash a custom ROM - you just have to be read the instructions carefully, and take your time.
the instructions are in the wiki here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone
you can flash back to the stock ROM whenever you want to.
you could always see if there is an official update for your ROM first, and just try installing the latest stock if your device does not already have it.

HTC ROM Upgrade for O2

Hi all,
I'm contemplating updating my ROM from the o2 stock 1.43 to the recently released 1.72 ROM via the HTC website. If all goes to plan, I may be tempted to flash a custom ROM in the not too distant future.
However, a piece of info on the HTC website has slightly unnerved me. It is as follows: The update will take up to 30 minutes, DO NOT interrupt the update process, make/receive phone calls, disconnect the device from the PC, or press any buttons until the process has been completed.
It's the make/receive phone calls bit that I'm worried about. Obviously I ain't gonna make a phone call while flashing, but how can I stop anyone from calling my number during the flash? And if someone were to call me during the flash would I end up with a bad flash and a possible bricked phone?
Please reassure me guys cos' until so, I ain't attempting it.

Take your SIM card out.
It's worth it,There are many benefits to the official ROMS later than 1.43
Don't worry too much, the reflash is relatively safe and straightforward.

O2 ROM upgrade - problems
I updated my original o2 stock 1.43 to the recently released 1.72 ROM via the HTC website as you are contemplating. since then, the following has happened: Text 'all messages' and 'reply' fonts are so large that editing is impossible, The weather no longer recognises my location. Thes matters do not appear to have a solution. I applied a full backup (SPB Backup) which may have aggravated matters, but I don't want to re-install everything from scratch. Think carefully before upgrading.
Desmac
arghhh >< why do people use backup's between different rom versions.
The reason why it doesnt work and causes these problems is because the backup software stores the entire registry hive as part of the backup, a long with some system files that are part of the rom. when you use a backup taken froma previous rom, it restores settings values that may not be approriate for that rom and also can remove registry settings and system files that the older rom did not have.
to fix this issue you should do a hard reset:
15. How to Hard Reset your Phone
To hard reset your phone which means to delete ALL personal data and settings and have the phone in factory default conditions as if you turned on the phone for the first time after purchasing, press the following buttons:
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer defaults, or press other keys to cancel."
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.

Backups
There is an option in the latest SPB builds to do "Device and ROM upgrade modes" when doing a backup/restore.
SPB User Manual - Device and ROM Upgrade Modes -
Now you can safely upgrade your device ROM or change your device and seamlessly restore your data. SPB Backup will automatically detect if the restore process is being performed between different devices or ROM versions and prompt you to select the upgrade mode to perform.
But as the poster above says I would avoid doing this imho as it is pretty easy to reinstall programs and settings yourself and you don't have the worry of messing up system files (which it sounds like the big fonts issue is).
You could backup contacts & sms & emails & pictures etc - and then restore the user data rather than the system.
However SPB may work fine - I just prefer to start over with apps which I keep on the SD card and use autoinstall to put them back
I updated to the new O2 rom, then reinstalled all the software/tweaks I like.
I've found it to be at least as good, and IMO, better since I did the update. I used the my phone app to replace my contacts, etc. Took me less than one day to get the phone just as I wanted it.
My advice would be go for it!
It was my first rom update. Very straight forward and a very big difference with the phone. I found it much, much quicker and smoother.

I agreee with above, I updated my O2 ROM to the 1.72 with no issues.
spent about an hour re-adding the apps and tweaks but worth while

[Q] Two issues

Hello everyone!
I encountered two problems with my HD2 having installed Gingerbread 2.3.7 Nexus-HD. The first one; sometimes, I don't know sure why, and what causes this, but when I lock the phone and I try to unlock it( immediately, I didn't try to wait for longer) it doesn't unlock, but the display turns from dark(as locked) to a little bit grey, as if it would work, but I cannot see what I am doing.
The second one, sometimes, I think after I run a game, or something that requires more power and I press the HOME button, when I try to enter the Menu, it flashes continously.( as if it would change rapidly from Menu, to Home screen)
Where these problems might come from and what can I do in order to fix them ?
Really sounds like a hardware issue, try pressing the buttons hard and releasing a few times.
Did any liquid get on the phone ?

Had alot of this issue on slow dying sdcard. My experience is your card have some problems. Try to check your card windows pc, start CMD and type- chkdsk (drive letter of sd card): /x /f or try to format your card with sdformatter pc freeware.
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
You can try flashing the rom again. Before doing it, remeber to format your sd card. Try other roms too. If the problem persists in evry rom, then try a different sd card. after this the only problem will be your hardware.
Give a thanks if you found this Helpful
I don't think it is a hardware problem, beacause it worked all fine a few days ago, and the phone didn't took any damage in this time. I have this HD2 from a friend and when he gave it to me, I wanted to reinstall the ROM,bacause I wanted not to appear anymore his google account. I am a beginner in HTC and I installed this ROM following a tutorial, but I am not sure I did eveything all right. I wonder how I could erase everything and install a good, stable ROM from scratch, but I need an exact tutorial for this.
Meanwhile, those problem solved by themselves, but now I get the same freezing screen when I try to call or someone calls me. I can hear them, but it just freezes and I cannot do anything, unless I remove the battery. It doesn't happen all the time, but very often...
LE: Right now I'm trying another ROM, I installed a version of CWM of 150 mb( as requested by this ROM) and wiped everything and now it is installing hyperdroid CM7 v5.5.2.
I have to say that with the previous ROM I tried to remove the SD and the same error, so I thought that changing it may be a solution.

Stock / Google Dialer and rebooting when trying to make a call?

I've seen this mentioned in other places before, other threads and in the r/motox subreddit, about how the open GAPPS package apparently flashes the Google Dialer over the stock one, and it doesn't work with the Pure? Which is what causes the reboots whenever I try to make a call or, presumably, get a call, which until now I chalked up to random reboots in CM13.
So I've seen a bunch of posts about it, but none that explain how to actually fix it? Am I doing something wrong from the start?
Bonus question, I've been having radio problems on almost every AOSP rom I flash, either Wifi doesn't work upon booting and it persists in other ROMS or cell service is out (even though LTE data works fine). Is the radio (which I assume is the same as the "modem") included in each ROM package and is replaced every time you flash a new one, or does it persist in some system directory cross-firmware?
There are so many posts on how to fix I'm not sure how you could miss them. Set as default or uninstall.

Set what as default? Or uninstall what? When I look in the apps list all I see is "phone". Nothing under the name google dialer or anything. It's just confusing, I didn't have this problem on other phones.
Sorry for the double post but I figured instead of making another thread I'll continue asking here, I'm STILL having cell issues, no matter what ROM I flash, stock or AOSP, or any of the radios I can find around the forums, whether it be with the February security update or not, I'm still not getting a connection. In fact once I flashed a new modem, I went from not being able to send texts etc. but able to get LTE data, to getting no connection at all. I'm totally lost, this is the second time it's happened I have no idea what to do. Happens in every single rom.
Last time it was fixed once I flashed from stock (which I had in turn flashed to try to get rid of the problem) to CM13 I think. But it was totally random, I have a feeling it didn't even have anything to do with the ROM itself...
Google searching: "Google Dialer reboots when making a call" >
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...s-when-making-or-receiving-a-call-nexus-6cm13
https://www.reddit.com/r/cyanogenmo...cm_13_nexus_5_soft_reboots_when_a_phone_call/
Even from Open GApps own FAQ page:
https://github.com/opengapps/openga...boots-when-i-receive-or-make-a-phone-call-why
Thanks, I honestly dunno why I couldn't find that before. At first I wasn't even aware it was actually called the "google dialer" so I was just googling "phone app reboots after flash/root/etc" and obviously it wasn't turning up many results. But the stock rom rooted debloated thread had the instructions at the bottom, now I know. Whoops. Like I said, just really confusing coming from other phones where everything mostly just worked....
The baseband is still perplexing me though, in the bootloader under baseband it says <not found>. I'm keeping on trying to flash different stock roms to see if I get lucky.
EDIT: so I think flashing the modem at the SAME TIME as a new ROM might be the key? I think I saw something about that on some random obscure post and tried it out and bam, it worked like a charm. Anyway hopefully that works again when I flash to something new
