where can i get .cab editor? so that i can extract some files inside that cab. thx
you really would go along way searching this forum and google since piles of people ask the very same things
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&ie=UTF-8&q=.CAB+editor&btnG=Google-søgning
rudegar, at least point in the right direction. I think the results of your query wont get anyone near a wince cab editor.
www.ocpsoftware.com does
I'd love to hear from a freeware cab editor though (my trial is over on 1 pc . . .)
well, technically he asked for a .Cab editor not a CE .Cat Editor edsub !

Agreed, but from the context of this forum double_ofour isn't really likely to want a windows .CAB editor
Thought we were here to help Rudegar
we are here to help
but sometimes you feel that if you give a man
a fish he can eat for a day but if you teach him how to fish for himself
he can eat every day
and editing cab files have been a few times in the forum that i know
so i can do the forum search for people or i can
tell them the wonders of the search function and if they then
try it out and they get great results they can search for many other things they may like to find
if one just post questions and don?t use the search
and the people who have some info don?t see the post
before it get pushed out of the scope
then help will never arrive
which is a shame really
so my reply was not an grumpy reply even though I can see why some may have seen it as such
What the hell happening here!! well better cancel this topic. Just calm down you all. It's better to seacrh first that to post. SORRY GUYS, ill never post a topic that was already discussed.
I know sometimes it's hard to tell the tone and peoples response when it's in writing on the internet and all but I can assure you I?m perfectly calm
I wrote what I wrote to help
And I didn?t blame people for responding to my mail in the ways they did
Just tried to explain my post in the other post
And I don?t think you should avoid asking posts ever that have been asked before
If nobody did that this forum would probably be static since most questions have been discussed at out point or another
When I wrote it I was just in a bit of a hurry so I didn?t have the time to find the link
And believed that a little help was better then no help at all
Sorry If people felt that I did it in a improper way
no need to close or remove this thread in my opinion
HHHHmmmmmmmm.......... Thank You Mr.Rudegar...
is there a freeware which works like WinCE CAB Manager?
Maybe I missed it, but here is a chance for all you old timers to show off your knowledge.
My Sprint Touch will be here later this week (Customer Retention...$249)
I've hacked my old Palm Treo, but this is my first HTC Windows setup.
First... which "upgrades" are the Must Haves, which ones are the good to have, and which should I stay away from?
Where do I find them (and the cabs)?
What program do I use to edit the Windows Registery? Can it be done from the Mac?
Any how to's laying around that us newbies should be reading before doing anything?
Basically, who wants to be a mentor to us new guys?
Any questions I missed but should have asked?
Well, can't really be a mentor but I can assure you that most of your answers can be found by utilizing the search option.

Must have upgrades new keyboard (Touchpal [free]), internet browser (Opera Mini [free]), reg editor (PHM [free]), new file exploere (Resco), HTC Home Customizer [free], Cube Config Tool [free], there are more but this is a good start. Many of them can be found here or at ppcgeeks.com.
PHM is a reg editor and is used from you phone. Don't have a make so don't know of one that is used on the mac to access the registry files on your phone. However many people use Total Commander for that on Windows PC's. No how to's lying around but I'll be happy to help answer questions as well as other members on this forum. Good luck!
Thanks
As the saying goes, the wise man is the one who answers a question with "I don't know, but I'll find out!"
So I don't know the right questions (or as the one responder said, search keywords) to ask the intelligent questions yet.
So, re do the keyboard, customise the cube, change the browser (didn't I hear there was a new one besides opera out?) And I can do the Reg edting from the phone itself, thus I"m on a Mac isn't a problem.
That's a very good start, thanks.
Also Total Commander is a great freeware replacement for Resco Explorer.
Also update Microsoft Live Search and/or get google maps.
TCPMP / Flash Bundle is a must for video apps (also freeware) and I like S2U2
Oh and yes you can change the registry from the phone.
seasons greetings!
have another question thats been bugging me sinse getting my Touch HD. this question is probably the equivalent of potty training...One i know how to do it there's no stopping me....
i've been reading various posts on people changing the fonts on their phone (cab files?) and upgrading the ROM (?) and obviously adding software to their phone to, but i dont get any of it. the thing i dont understand is how you install software that i've seen (is there a specific place on the phone?) add cab files (to where?) and what on earth is a ROM?
the last time i did anything like this was a few years ago to Orange SPV 500 and 550, but it was much easier for me to understand back then as is was all pretty basic. but now? im confused.com
i guess what im looking for is a HOW TO guide that i can follow and understand. can anyone point me in the right direction? or am i going to have to pee and poo all over the living room carpet before i actually hit the toilet???
adios!
I am new as well, but as far as I can help:
A .cab is much like an .exe on your PC, you can put it ANYWHERE you want really. To install, you simply navigate to where you have put it on your phone through the file explorer and run the .cab from there which will install the application.
I don't know anything about Roms I am afraid.
how to
just type "install cab pocketpc" in a google field, i'm sure your find what your looking for in the first five answers. I know it's could be hard to understand but this is a though forum: if you want to learn from the beginning here you got to search a lot and read more. That's what i'vedone or you google for simple words.
PS: Put the cab in your storage card from activesync, open file explorer in ppc, click your cab, choose where to install ( on ppc for everyday use, on storage for big files). Continue to ask but in the right thread. In french : "tous les grands chenes furent des glands". Rom is the "windows" you got in you ppc, it could be arrange , or modify before by someone (adding or suppressing)
NB/ edit: apologize, you can find people like ScarySquirrel How could you have 116 posts without flashing once ?

I guess your'e going to have to "pee and poo all over the living room carpet" as you so eloquently put it. Just read up the forum and use the search, using context clues to figure what you want to do. Around these parts, people aren't very keen on spoon-feeding info to people. Also check out the Blackstone wiki as well. The blackstone is slightly difficult to mod for newbies at this point due to it being so new, but i'm sure in a few months there will be .CAB files for pretty much everything.
Try this wiki page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone
CABs are just like setup.exe files on Windows. I suggest you forget about ROMs if you are new for now.
Can anyone provide me with that?
yes, search on the forum and you'll find one.
I found it this morning on the blackstone forum.
here's a clue type ie6 cab blackstone into the google search at the top of the search screen
if you're quick, you might even find it on the third thread on the results of your search.
of course if there's another 30 threads asking exactly the same thing then you may start to struggle, which is why all new users are asked to SEARCH before posting.
It makes it bloody hard to find anything after a bit, because the forum becomes full of threads asking the same thing!
i did a search and i don't find. easy to say:"take the search function". it's boring to read this answer at each question...
fards already did a search and found it. he was even kind enough to tell you where exactly to get it, short of giving you the url.

Well if you can't abide by the RULESOf the forum then I suggest you don't post at all.
sorry for boring you so much that you felt the need to take time to post that, but there aren't many rules here but one of them is to learn how to use the search!
use skyfire, quite good for videos

Yes I do agree that Skyfire is good for videos esp flash porn...lol but doesnt render text that well.
Thanks for help...
I didn't find it. I'm not the only guy having difficulties to get IE6 cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=484409
I liked IE6 on a win6.5 rom but i prefer win 6.1 . So i think we have to wait specific IE6 for windows mobile 6.1. I'll don't wait help in this topic...
i did what fards said and managed to find the cab.
For people who have better things to do than sift around for a few hours:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466899
OR
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461717
Haven't installed yet. Please stop posting threads like this which make searching next to impossible - and others please stop saying "just search" - it isn't that easy with so many useless threads.
EDIT: GODDAMN! Neither of these work! Where is the real CAB????
EDIT No.2: Seems that IE6 is not available as a CAB. According to some, at least: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473647
Hello,
Forgive me if this has been asked before, I've done a search and haven't come up with an answer.
I'm looking to start making my own sliders and icon sets, can anyone point me in the right direction where I might find out how to do this? (i.e. how to make cab files)
Many thanks.

I'm not a developer or WM skin designer/ROM chef, but I think your question is a little like asking "how do I strike the bottle of Champagne exactly right when I build my first ship and launch it?".
In other words the cab file is the end of the process, the final delivery system for installation by multiple users. I would imagine that a good start would be to have created your sliders and icon sets, understanding of course where the files/icons go on the target system, that they all work properly, tested by friends, which systems are supported is known/documented, etc, etc.
Then you want to put these finished and tested files into a cab file for re-use and/or distribution to others. I'm sure there are some good tutorials (Google is your friend) out there on creating Windows Mobile cab files, when you're at that stage.
Also for general development/app questions a more generic XDA forum like this would be a better place to start.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=523
Always remember that search boxes (Google on the outside, forum search in here) are good things to become proficient at - especially if your goal is learning some new skill.

I use WinCE Cab manager, since it seems to be the best out there. It allows you to package files, registry settings, etc., and has an easy wizard for people who don't know how to use the program. It has a 30 day free trial, and after that, it's $99, but it's worth it if you regularly make and modify CAB files.
Otherwise, if you don't want to buy that, Extendir Cabs is alright for basic CAB file needs. It doesn't do all the comprehensive stuff that Wince Cab manager does, and it isn't as easy to use, but it gets the job done.
Personal favorite for me is QuickCab. Requires zero intellect to figure out how to use it.

I second QuickCab. Only rule is that if the cab is registry values only then you need to add a file (even if it's empty) since it's a requirement. If you're just doing registry values then try this: http://www.fuzemobility.com/make-a-customized-cab-for-your-registry-tweaks/
