Anyone working for O2 here know when O2 are going to release a new ROM for the Exec?
Regards
I've asked, and no-one knows (all they know is that it'll be later than any internal release date; which they didn't have).
link to o2 XDA Exec Software Update
You are required to enter your phone number and imei number.

Anyone know if this version (v1.13.188) is the latest release similar to that for the JasJar etc?
...to answer my own question. I guess not. JasJar seems to be ROM VERSION 1.30.76 WWE
You dont have to enter your mobile or IMEI number if you go here for future exec updates
http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft3.html
when hell freezes over?
bit cynical ..... but like most people I have been trying to get an answer and all i can get is... we are working on it... we will release an update.. but no dates as yet...
If you were o2.. and were getting a shed load of money from Blackberry contracts every month would you rush out and release an update that enables a competimg product that might cut into some of that phat profit
1.13.188 is an update over the launch version that came with the Exec when it was released, however it is significantly behind the imate, Orange and T-Mobile ones. As usual, o2 are last with an update.
To be honest, my iMate one works so well, I'm not even sure if I'm willing to flash it back to an o2 ROM. It'll have to be a pretty amazing release.
Cheers
Ant
What are the differences between the o2 and I-Mate one?
This update has been in testing for over a month now so hopefully should be release soon. It wont include A2DP though.
Also you dont need the IMEI number anyway, just simply change the 2 to a 3 in the address bar (http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft2.html - change to soft3 on the end).
oops!
stuartwatkins
do you know it definitely not have a2dp ? a contact I have at o2 tells me it will. he has been wrong before but was sure the new rom would contain a2dp.
@CRJL, i did not think A2DP has been included in any of the ROM updates. In fact, I am not sure if any of the HTC WM5 devices has A2DP at the moment (someone please correct this if I am wrong).
@jah. I know that's why I was excited about this o2 rom. it may well be he is full of poo. we will see. like I said he has been wrong before
I am absolutly sure! O2 have said that this will be included in future ROM updates, but not the new one - shame!
I was hoping that the fact that O2's update was taking so long was maybe a sign that it would include A2DP where others had not.
MS give links to the devices with A2DP already available:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/5/default.mspx
I know the spv600s now ship with it
rgds
The mail I got from O2 stated that it would include A2DP so it will be interesting to see if they make good on the promise.
I reckon it will be in the next few weeks though.
I did offer to beta test (nudge nudge wink wink) but they knocked me back.
Cheers
since my post I have been intouch with my "friend" at o2. he is 95% sure that the reason for the delay in the rom release is due to a2dp being made ready for this ROM :0 :0
He also says it will be out in no more than 14days.

Can you ask your mate if Blackberry Connect is going to be available too?
im going to be right pissy if ad2p isnt included when there are other mickey mouse phones being shipped with wm5 and ad2p.
Any more news? Or is everyone still waiting...
...the topic says it all. (talking for trinity of course)
MS announced it officially.
Anybody heard anything?
That is a question for some old HTC/QTEK users, if they managed to install newer OS on some older devices than maybe there is a hope for Trinity also in future.

Best thing that could happen to a Trinity user: HTC releasing ROM to include WM6, GPS Functionality, FM Radio Enabled (if the H/W exists) all before the end of the month.
After moving from XP to Vista, using WM5 just doesn't feel right anymore.
I would be very surprised if HTC would give away a brand new OS for free. Expect to pay for it, if it is released at all.

I am taking bets on HTC not releasing any Crossbow ROMs for the current line of products.

I'm probably going to wander off to the Eten corner if HTC do this to us.
Someone have actually mailed to Dopod(owned by HTC) and they replied that they will not offer WM6 upgrade to any of the existing WM5 models. They only said that new WM6 model will be out soon. So...
hi,
i called T-Mobile yesterday to enquire about them upgrading existing devices to WM6, i was told that if the manufacturer made the updatees available then so would they. i told them HTC were making updates available for their own brand devices so the girl went off to speak to the technical department and came back to tell me that i should keep checking the website as they were expecting some kind of updates to be available in june but couldn't tell me exactly what.
sounds promising...
Lets hope so!
Thats quite wicked.. not sure how the rom are going to compare to the rom's that have been cooked here but they have changed their tune...
They did say that they were not going to update the handsets and that you would have to purchase a different model..
We shall wait and see....
D
Bonus
Great news, then we can get something solid and supported back on our handsets and lets the ROM Chefs take a holiday (though probably a quick one!)
I can say if you are looking for something stable on tmobile UK....Black Dymond with radio 1.40.30.00 is a winner at the moment.
ROCK SOLID, i tested all beta versions (beta, RC1 and RC2) and this ROM has had alot of work put in it.
Does anyone know when there will be an update for Bell users? It seems they are lagging behind telus and sprint on the upgrades.....
Bell HTC Vogue WM6.1/GPS/Rev-A Rom
Same concern here, why Bell always need to be 1 year behind his competitors?
The official rom is 1.19.666.1 while others have 3.56.xxx
Yeah, Bell is always late . But for the price I pay for unlimited data. I don't really mind that much.
What HTC Technical Support Says:
I asked the HTC support team about the issue and that what they <strike>answer</strike>, copy pasted me (note the when and if):
"Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the latest firmware for your Touch.
We understand that it is important you receive all the information to best utilize your device. Currently, our developers have to work with Bell to determine when and if a ROM upgrade will be available. Unfortunately, there is no estimated time for availability of any ROM update. Please check the HTC America website for any software updates that may be released, http://www.htc.com/us . Just click on the support link then choose your device.
I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.
HTC Technical Support"
As I know Bell policy, I doubt we will ever see such upgrade.
This really sucks...i was looking forward to use the gps system and i don't want to void my warranty by using a different rom....it seems i will have to buy a separate gps receiver after all...

I dont see why everyone is concerned with an official update. Just unlcok and flash a custom rom, which will be 100x better anyways
I read on forums that once the radio is changed from 1 point something to 3 point something, it won't change back properly....since i have a 3 year warranty on the phone i dunno if they will fix something broken if they see it has a diff rom or if something from the cooked rom stays with the phone when i load the oem....
Any input?
HTC Announced they are releasing a new version of the the touch cruise, what are your thoughts on this is this htc trying to recover from a bad software implementation or what, i think its unfair for them to bring out a new model to recover from it not every one can afford upgrading phones everytime a new one comes out.
You mean "Iolite"?
Here are many roms with the same specs (like footprints or M2D or Navipanel...).
So you can have a new phone without buying a new device!

I am under the same impression too. HTC released new devices in Diamond family with distinctive names. I don't think they ran out of naming ideas . This is a clear indication (at least to me) that the original Cruise has some fundamental flaws. If it where to be firmware related a new ROM or some sort of SW upgrade could have that fixed. I am convinced that is HW related (i.e.: bad or compromised overall design; bad choice of components, etc.).
Some people here on this forum could argue that the design is similar with some other successful devices from the past. This is not completely true since we don't have full access to the internals of these designs.
Being able to load some non-official ROMs on our devices is not a real upgrade it is merely a change of user interface and a set of bugs/problems different from the original ROMs.

This makes no sense. If HTC knew that the original Cruise had problems, why would they name a new device with the same name as the flawed one? When the original Cruise was released it was pretty flash from a hardware point of view - remember that was a couple of years ago now, so you really can't compare with current stuff. People seem to think that their devices will somehow manage to stay up to date with newer technology - which is impossible. For me, other than the video driver issue (which for me is really no issue at all) the Cruise works fine. If it didn't, I'd bite the bullet and simply replace it with a newer device, which by the way would probably be out of date 3 months after I buy it.

I never implied, or thought for that matter, about my device staying up to date and competing on the same level with the newer devices.
The question was: Why not HTC Touch Cruise2 or something else? Why the newer device has exactly the same name? Oh yeah: they added the (09) description in order to avoid confusion and a heap of confused customer support.
One more thing:
On the device list on their site there is NO trace of the old Cruise but one can find the Tytn II which is an older device. One can ask himself way that is?
