Hi,
I just got my Cingular 8525 today and updated to latest ROM version off Wiki. I have been already experiencing some problems. The only plugin I have installed is Wisbar Advance 2. Here are my problems:
1) I have the wifi set to Best Performance but the speed is incredibly slow (the webpage doesn't even seem to be responding)
2) I have been using the pocket pc for over 2 hrs now and the battery still shows 100%? Is this normal or do I have a super battery?
3) Bluetooth audio is poor. I get crackling/muffling sounds. <---This is a major pain. I've searched but I can't find a solution on here. All I can find are fixes for skipping but my audio isn't skipping. I am using the Logitech Freepulse BT 2.0 headphones. Can someone help?
Please help
What is your signal strength????

Full signal strength. I'm using my home wireless. No problems with my Dell Axim X51v.
Make sure that PIE is not using a proxy or going over a data connection. Google should pop up very very fast.

Tried it but still slow...I guess this isn't usual
And it is weird. My Dell Axim X51V with 802.11b has better signal strength than my 8525
Also while we're at it..I am getting poor BT audio streaming. There is crackling/muffling sound. Is there I fix? I thought I read something about poor A2DP quality somewhere.
It's weird, the wifi seems to work and then stop working but after a soft reset it works again.....
Also, it appears the battery bar goes down 10% at a time?? That is weird.

It is known the hermes doesnt have the best wireless reception. Nothing you can do about that

Unusual, mine works very fast. It helps to upgrade to 802.11G or even a better Access Point. I have a draytek and a Cisco and the Cisco is 100% better in reception and speed.
Thanks a lot for the help. The wifi appears to be working now. I'll see how it goes from here.
I do have a Wireless G router. I am quite disappointed with the so called 802.11g card on the 8525 since it can't even beat my 802.11b wireless card on my Axim x51v in terms of signal strength. I thought it would be way better.

I agree with you on that. The Hermes has weak wireless and IR. The strength seriously drops when not right up close to my access point.
Just want to bump this back up because I can't resolve the BT audio issue.
Did you solve the wi-fi issue? If not, try ensuring your name servers are set ON the device. Fixed it for me.

Thanks for the advice but the wifi problem somehow cured itself. I don't know what I did but it is working now.
Well that's always helpful, eh?
Hi, i recently bought and upgraded a 02 XDA Mini S to WM6 and the wifi seems bad like i have to go right next to the wireless point to get a good signal and even then its not at full bar can any1 help me with this or is it just the wifi is rubbish on the wizard?
thanks,
Kurt
Did you go to start-->settings-->connections tab-->wireless LAN-->power mode tab and set it on best performance? That should give you some more room to work with.
yep still is really bad though about 10 meters and 2 walls away from the router an i couldnt get a signal.
At "10 meters and 2 walls away from the router" I also get no connection -where my Wifi enabled laptop works fine at the same time. Seems like the Wifi on the HTC device is rather weak and operates from a small distance only. Anyways I've learned to live with it.
oh rite well annoying though considering my dell axim x51 can get a very good signal like 30 meters from the access point. is there anyway i can up the power on my wizard? ive got wireless G enabled aswell.
Ya, I have a 7db antennae on my router and I still seem to need to be inside of 20 or so feet, and no walls for my wizard to find the network. I think it's just a weak card.
I also noticed that.
Yes I also noticed that. I have a wifi hotspot subscription and with my old WM5 ROM i can connect and surf without any problem, however when useing any WM6 ROM i just connect poorly and the connection breaks everytime.
Even in my wireless home router i had turn on the name broadcast (enabling WEP of course) in order to connect properly at the first try.
Ive noted this with every WM6 Rom out there and since my device is a G4 i cant upgrade the radio rom. so... well i suffer from this issue also.
anybody know how to repair this? my Touch HD's wifi signal is very weak. I'm right beside my router and I'm only getting 2 bars. I move it away about 10 feet and it gets no signal. I happen to have an Nokia E71 and the signal is very good. having them turned on the wifi at the same time and at the same spot. (
Can anyone help me please?

There's a slider under All settings -> connections -> wifi -> advanced -> power mode. Change it from "Best battery" to "Best performance"..
This helped a lot in my case, although I admit that Wifi connections are still a little weak. I think the hardware wise the chip HTC used is not of top quality. However it has helped me a lot, give it a try...
mine works very well even when im upstaires in my house so not sure of your problem. how good is your home pc wifi connection?
The WIFI and Bluetooth signals are very week, like if there was no antenna. The touch HD finds my WIFI access point only when I'm in the same room of the router. If I move only 5 meters away it loses the connection. My notebook and Nokia E71 work without any problem and find my network at the other side of my apartment. I tried to make a hard reset but nothing changed, same results. I also tried to change WIFI settings (best performance instead of best battery).... same thing I tried to remove WEP keys from my router, change IP address and so on without success.
Same problem here

I find that unless I am right next to the wireless router then I will only get 1 bar of signal. Wifi reception is just weak :/
TC,
Well, a lot of factors play into the reception of WIFI Signals. Firstly, are you living in a wood-based home, or are you living in a place where homes are constructed from pure cement and concrete?
Cheers.
its not the signal from the router but its the Blackstone wifi ( and bluetooth )signal from the device is very weak.
And its on best performance.....
And when i bought the device it had a very good signal.

mines is doing the Same thing now... No Bluetooth connection and the WIFI is Weak One Bar and am sitting right next to the Router! any Fix??

Could you enlighten me with information on the location of the wireless cable and how to do it as I have never tried it before. Thanks in advance.
well you need the HD Service Manaul which shows you how to open the Phone.. it also shows the Where The GPS & Wireless/Lan Cable are located....

Thanks WaveyKat, it worked like a charm, I have wi-fi back
I have added a photo of the cable to reconnect. I think that it would be better to put some glue on it, but I did not do it
Thank God, finally found this thread to realize that I am not alone to have the weak wi-fi signal issue. Actually the blue-tooth function is also not functioning. So I decide to try the method that suggested by WaveyKat. Already found the Blackstone Service Manual on the web. I need to order the screw-drivers Philips 0, and Torex T5 which can be found on eBay, but cannot find the flat plastic stick P/N: RTT00006. Does anyone know where to order it on the web? Please advise and thanks!

I have used a simple small flat screw-driver to unscrew all these 6 screws, it worked fine.
Instead of RTT00006 I used an old credit card + а plastic spoon However I've spent about an hour to remove the antenna cover, it was the most difficult part.
This video can help : search in google "htc-touch-hd-disassembling" (sorry I cannot use external URLs)
hey guys
same problem here...
i was using the Nokia N85 and used to play in my house without problems...
with doors closed it works fine...
but now with the Touch HD i can't...
that's so sad!
should i come back to Nokia N85?
LoL
OMG!
I had bought a secondhand touch hd and the wifi was barely working. I was so disappointed until I read this. I opened my device and noticed the cable was loose, I connected it and voila, it immediately found a network!
Thank you so much!
Howe open Touch HD? Please pictures or video
Thanks

How far from the WiFi HotSpot can your X1 get before the connection is useless? I'm in a house and it barely works in the next room (newer house, walls made of drywall). My brother has an iPod Touch that works all over the house perfectly (same router). I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the WiFi radio on my X1?
i get v good coverage from the x1 as good as the iphone. try changing your radio firmware
WhyBe,
Is it set to best performance or best battery?
Go under settings to check.
Cheers.
Doesn't it depend on the HotSpot itself ?- I mean on the router, its signal strength and etc...I connect to my router trough 2 brick + concrete walls and have no problems at all...Always connected in every room

+what poisonwolf said
and dont buy a metal case for ur phone
also helps if i slide open the phone for me ... and its good to face the router too (not with ur back towards it)

I can always connect to my router from the door on the street (I live on the first floor) and everywhere in the house including the bedroo with router being on the corridor outside.
And I did not tweak anything in my EnergyROM 3.0
Thanks all. I have never specifically changed my radio firmware. Is this something that is updated when I change ROMs? I've went from R1a to R2a to R3a. Does the radio get changed with these?
I have the X1 set to best performance.
It depends on what kind of router you have. The cheap ones are crappy. I have a medium spec one and I get good connectivity through 3 walls.
I have a LinkSys G router. It is pretty common. Everything I use works fine with it (3 laptops and iPod Touch). Only the X1 can see it but not connect.

Did you see the settings in the phone that allow you to use better Wi-Fi reception, but get poor battery life? I had problems with Wi-Fi until I set it to "better performance" rather than "better battery life".
Yes, it is set to best performance. My X1 recognizes the router but doesn't connect. I'm wondering if there is some other problem?
EDIT: OK, I just discovered that if I turn off the phone radio, the WiFi works properly. Is it supposed to be this way?
with linksys and all other routers really one have to upgrade the firmware once in awhile
to get best support with newer devices

Nope. There is a problem. I have no idea what it could be though . Maybe an update is a good thought.
I only use stock ROMs and haven't really tweaked my system beyond factory state. So I don't see why I need to update anything. I'm thinking there is some sort of conflict between my internet settings for the phone and the internet settings for the WiFi connection?

Mine did that when I 1st tried to set it up, it would find the network (hidden) ok, but would not connect. No matter what I tried, even though 2 pc's (wired), laptop (wireless), xbox (wired) & iPod touch (wireless) were working fine.
I gave up on the X1 and turned my attention to the router, tried a static IP for the X1 etc (it's back on DCHP now), after rebooting the router, the X1 connected and worked fine and it has ever since. I have no idea why - but initially it would not connect - something funny with the router.
I have a netgear router and every now and then kicks me off. i have to disable my wifi on the x1 and reconnect or even power off the router and back on for it to work.
Turn off your router for 1 minute and power back on then try to reconnect your x1.
I have a Linksys WRT160N router and it actually doesn't even detect it when it transmits mixed speed, only of I put it on B and G it detects it.
Otherwise the signal is average, a bit worse then my laptop.

It's freaking great, but I prefer 3G. I just can't afford it.
i have trouble to connect to wifi. have problem connecting to wifi where other phones, NB dont its just showing low signal... can someone hlp?? thx in advance
How many "bars" do you get when sitting right next to (3 feet/1 meter) a wireless router?
its full but when i go further like next room it drops to one bar and disconnects. thats my wifi at home and when i want to connect to someones wifi i have one bar where he has full ... would it work if i go to winodows mobile 7 or i checked forums and there is a way to enable 802,11n and it should fix the range of the wifi

looks like ur having the same problem as he is. check this thread and read thru post #5 to last.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150312
+ check if you can get any BLUETOOTH connection (pairing)
if it fails...definately a loose cable issue as i mentioned in that thread.
BT is working perfect even in range where wifi makes problems so i dont think the cable is the problem. if im in one meter distance wifi get full bars but when i check the signal longer it drops to half and back to full. so when the signal is half or less it drops below range and the connection failes. can you tell me whats the max distance of the wifi in HTC HD2??? have the phone in warranty so will try that but dont think they accept this so trying to solve it my self...
depends on the router
is it possible to buy better wifi chip to my phone?
my router is D-link dsl 2641R
